Dear Readers…

As I mentioned in my previous post, I have been taking a week or so off from the blog as I learn how to balance my new job with blogging and reading. During this short bit of time, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking regarding the blog.  No, I’m not shutting it down or anything. However, there are going to be some changes.

Firstly, I’m going to stop being so OCD about it. It’s really ok if I don’t post one day. There is no reason to stress myself about something that is meant to be fun for me.

Secondly, I’ve been thinking about all my other interests in life and how I wish I could blog about all of them. Sadly, I don’t have the time nor the content to maintain a bunch of different blogs. After thinking about this, I’ve realized that I want to start to infuse more of myself into this blog. While this will still primarily remain a book blog, I’ve decided to let myself blog about some of my other interests and happenings in my life once or twice a week. My more personal posts have always been pretty well-received so I’m hoping this will be a good change. So don’t worry, for all of you only here for the books, you’ll still get that and you can skip over the once or twice a week post that has to do with other interests of mine or about random life happenings.

All that being said, I’d like to introduce you to a few interests outside of my bookish interests that you might see me blog about on occasion–because there is so much more to me than the books I read! 🙂

I like to travel. If I could, I’d travel for a living and write about it. There is nothing, aside from getting new books, that exhilarates me quite as much as traveling does.
I like music. No, I don’t play any instruments and I certainly can’t sing, but this was the only music related picture I had. I have a Tumblr in which I post a “Daily Dose of Aural Excellence” that features songs, new and old, that I like.
I like food — eating it and cooking it! I’ve been trying to learn to be more domestic and my boyfriend appreciates that.

I love fashion — everything about it. I have expensive taste for some reason but don’t have the means to shop that way all the time. I love being more creative and putting together outfits. I loved pretending like I could afford the shopping on Rodeo Drive. I DID buy something. I had to. That receipt is in my scrapbook 🙂
And mostly importantly, I love my life. I have a wonderful boyfriend and we are planning on getting engaged this year…he is my best friend and we have so much fun together. I have an amazing family. I like living in the moment and having a good time no matter what I’m doing. I’m notorious for being spontaneous and doing ridiculous things that sometimes end up on captured on video– getting cars ridiculously stuck in a blizzard because I want to go buy a sled or buying a slip and slide and pretending my 25 year old body is still 6 years old. I’m disorganized and a world class procrastinator. I also enjoy art, architecture/design, history, trashy tv, sports, photography and HGTV addict. I’m the queen of car dancing and madame of the mixtape.

I won’t lie. I’ve thought about the potential of losing readers by making this change but I’m not really too sure I care too much. I think these changes will just add to my blog. The majority of what will be on this blog will still be about books so it’s not too drastic but I feel I need to be fair and warn my readers about these changes. Please be patient as I begin integrating them. And I have to ask, do you like book blogs that feature other content on occasion?

So readers, I want to know, aside from reading, what are things are you interested in? How do you infuse your personality into your book blog?

About Jamie

Jamie is a 32 year old married lady (with a new baby!!) who is in denial that she's actually that old to be a married lady and a mom. When she's not reading you can find her doing Pilates followed by eating ice cream, belting out Hamilton (loud and offkey) and having adventures with her husband, daughter and rescue dog.

  1. I am really excited about your new job! I think it's neat that you are refocusing to some extent as well. I would like to do that too on my blog. Since I'm job searching I've kind of stopped posting on my blog for fear that people won't want to employ me, but I would love post some other stuff on it. We'll see. You've been such an encouragement to me since I've started my job search so I hope that soon I will have a job too!

I can't wait to read your new posts! 🙂

  2. Nice post. I will still come here to read about books and other things. It's good to infuse some of yourself and interests in your blog.

  3. hlindskold says:

I think it's cool that you'll be posting other things… I'm really looking forward to reading about your other interests!

  4. I think it's a great idea to infuse more of yourself and your other interests into your blog. In my opinion it makes the blog more personal and interesting.

Books, food, fashion, travel, fun and whatever life brings…looking forward to reading your posts.

  5. Great post and I seriously doubt you'll lose readers because of the changes….I certainly won't be leaving. ^_^ I think it's great you're infusing more of yourself into the blog. It needs to be fun to remain something you WANT to do after all, we all know how much work actually goes into maintaining a site so if it ends up feeling like work, falling by the wayside is that much easier an outcome. Enjoy it! Can't wait to see what happens next…

(Oh as for me, reading, shopping, spending time with family, playing with my dogs, going to the movies, listening to music, and traveling — though that last one I don't get to do nearly enough of.) ^_^

I'm all about making blogs more personal. Isn't that what they're there for? I try to keep my tangents consistent though. Music & photography is what I love, aside from books, so I try to post weekly stuff about that too. I figure if someone doesn't like it – don't look! Right?!

Can't wait to see what else you have to show us Jamie 🙂

  7. The1stdaughter says:

I think this is fantastic! And I honestly don't think you'll lose many readers at all. I started following your blog, and still do because I thought you were such a neat person on twitter and wanted to read more about what you love. So, needless to say, I'm really excited for you. Of course, I'll be really excited to see which books you read, because I think we have a lot of similar tastes in books, but I love many of the other things you have interests in as well. So yay!

As for me…I love music of all types. I'm a classically trained flute player, so pretty much anything from classical to popular music is fantastic! And I'd love to travel more, but for now I'm going to have to do it vicariously through you until we have more $$$. :o)

Still, so excited for you! Can't wait to see what you write about!

  8. Congrats on the new job! And I think it's great that you are mixing up the blog a bit. I think it will be interesting to see what else you are interested in! 🙂

  9. I definitely will keep on reading! Congrats on your job!

  10. Girl on a Mission says:

I completely agree and have thought of doing this on my own blog sometimes but I chicken out everytime. Don't forget that out of your followers some of us like fashion and to travel too! So I'm excited to see this.

  11. The more Jamie, the merrier! We <3 you and ALL the interests that make you you.

  12. Jessica (Firefly Book Loft) says:

I wouldn't worry too much about losing readers. It just sounds like you are going to be infusing even more awesome into your blog. And people love more awesome.
I personally cannot wait to see what stuff you start posting now 🙂

  13. Good for you! ( :

  14. Aww thanks everyone! It's something I really feel strongly about after taking a step away from the blog. I was feeling overwhelmed and like I was ONLY ever sitting on my butt reading or blogging or on Twitter. There are so many other things I love doing so I need to balance the rest of my life with blogging better! 🙂

  15. Go for it. I love learning more about bloggers. It helps me identify the blog with the person "Oh, yea, that's the one that likes…" kind of thing. I actually have a separate blog, that I use for my "other" loves – sewing, cooking, camping, etc. I call it my hobby spot. There's a link on the side of my book blog to get there. Looking forward to reading your personal posts.

I look forward to all your posts–and not just the ones about books! I hope you are loving your new job!

  20. Congrats on the new job, Jamie! Totally understand about not posting every day and like others have said I think it would be neat to see some more personal non-book-related things. I will certainly be sticking around! 🙂

  21. I just found your blog through good reads (even though I forgot I had one), and I'm so happy I did! It seems like we have a lot in common, so I am definitely looking forward to reading your posts!

  22. You know my feelings about this <3 we've had this dicussion numerous times on twitter and I say do whatever makes you happy. Plus, I LUFF to travel, i love music and fashion and art and food and everything, I just love a LOT of things, and I do not think you should ever EVER confine your interests out of worry, because life is well….life! and you should live it and love it. So, yay! and i love your photos, they made me smile.

  23. This is awesome! It's great to know more about the blogger behind the blog 🙂 I can't wait to read more about travel and get some music suggestions from you!

  24. Good for you for deciding to blog about other things! You won't lose me as a follower (duh) and I can't wait to read about all of the other things that make you YOU!

  25. Jacinda (The Reading Housewives) says:

I'll still remain a follower of course! And I love learning new things about people!

  26. Library Gal says:

Looking forward to hearing more about YOU! I think infusing more of yourself into your blog is a great idea! Singing/scrapbooking are my two other passions and I don't get to do either enough lately…

  27. I really look forward to your more personal posts Jamie! The reason your blog is so successful is that it's fun, and I think that's because your personality seeps in – I think this can only be a good thing!

  28. tediousandbrief says:

It'll be interesting to see your non-book blogs! I'll definitely be continuing to read your blog, of course!

I started to do something similar with my blog, including films and such. I have similar interests to you (travel and food are a huge interests of mine, too).

As for infusing my personality into my blog, I'm not entirely sure how I do that apart from my opinions in my reviews (and maybe mentioning my cats once or twice?). I actually think that I haven't even mentioned my name on my blog yet!

  29. Cat the Librarian says:

Good for you! Blogging should be fun, not work!

  30. Brilliant! We (yes I said 'we' — I'm speaking for everyone who reads PPT!) can't wait to learn more about you. I love reading blogs where I can get a peek into their lives. It's a (non-creepy) voyeur thing & I find it enhances the blog 🙂

    Rock on, Jamie!

  31. Miss Remmers says:

I love this post! I think it's perfectly okay to add some personal to a book blog…its what makes the reader rather than the reviewer. 🙂

  32. Lu @ Regular Rumination says:

Who are these mysterious readers who are reading a blog and say, "BAH. This person speaks too much of themselves, books only!" The thing is, a lot of bloggers seem to be afraid of these people that, I would argue, don't exist. I know I've worried about them. Until I realize that my blog is like my living room: this is my space. You are a guest here. If you don't like how I've decorated, please leave. Or tolerate it nicely and comment on what you DO like. You may also comment on the things you don't like. You have to find the balance that is right for you. For some people that is delegating different blogs to different things. I have tried that and it just isn't for me. I need to infuse a little bit of my real life in my blog or it's just not my blog.

It was nice getting to know a little bit more about you, Jamie. Can't wait to read more in the future 😀

  33. Congratulations on getting the job, very exciting! Go ahead and incorporate more personal/non-book stuff – it's your blog, after all!

  34. I really enjoy personal posts and think it'll make your blog more 'you'!

  35. Yay, I'm glad to hear that we're going to be hearing more about you – I really enjoy your personal posts 🙂

  36. ConnieGirl says:

Jamie, the more I read your blog, the more I realize how similar we are! Don't feel bad about incorporating more content on your blog. Readers like to read what you are passionate about! I, too, love travel and fashion (and books o'course). I also LOVE movies, hanging out with my husband, gardening (recently), and writing.
