QUESTion: What is King Gaius Damora’s nickname? [Email the answer, found somewhere below, to yrmarketing@us.penguingroup.com for the chance to win one of five hardcover copies of Falling Kingdoms!]

Excerpt: “The king had taken him farther north several years ago to witness the execution of one who was accused of witchcraft. The woman had slaughtered several animals and used their blood to try to summon dark magic. The king spoke with her briefly in private and then made the final judgment on her fate. Magnus was required to watch the execution so he would learn from it.” – Chapter 14, FALLING KINGDOMS

From Morgan: King Gaius Damora rules Limeros with an iron fist and—many would say—a merciless heart as cold as the icy landscape that stretches out beyond his black granite castle. His reign has earned him the nickname of the “King of Blood.” If you ask him, though, Gaius is a family man at heart, always looking out for his wife, Queen Althea, and two beloved children, Prince Magnus and Princess Lucia. Oh, and also his live-in mistress (and de facto royal advisor), of course.

The king created the law of “no witches allowed.” While witches are basically powerless, they’re still seen as a threat—a symbol of darkness and evil. The accused are treated to a visit to the dungeon, and, inevitably, a swift, but vastly unpleasant execution.

King Gaius desires omnipotent power and has been biding his time for years looking for new opportunities to expand his kingdom…and expand it…and expand it some more. And that opportunity might just be arriving very soon.
