February In One Word

5 Things That Happened In February:

1. The lovely Margot came to town and I got to get in touch with my inner Anna and pose in her Anna and the French Kiss fauxto. Check it out!
2. Went on a sushi date with Will for Valentine’s Day!
3. Found my new favorite cafe (thanks to the photoshoot with Margot) and now Will and I are hooked. That yummy looking chocolate croissant is from there!
4. I went to NYC for the day for the Dark Days tour and got to see Alexa and Vi again and FINALLY meet Estelle.
5. Will and I started going to a gym (rather than the small free one we had been using at our complex) and strangely I’m enjoying our gym time. Though I cry every time Will makes me do the abs circuit.

5 Songs That Were Most Popular On My Ipod This Month:

1. Pretty Baby by Brendan Benson

2. Such Great Heights by Postal Service (Getting pumped for the concert in June OMG I’VE BEEN WAITING 10 YEARS FOR THIS. 18 year old Jamie circa 2003 is giddy as well. DYING.)

3. We The Common by Thao & The Get Down  Stay Down

4. Wild by Royal Teeth

5. Ramona by Night Beds (This whole album is FANTASTIC. I keep listening to it over and over again.)

Top 2 Books I Read This Month:

1. Something Like Normal by Trish Doller
2.  Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi (Review to come!)

Most Popular Review This Month

Something Like Normal by Trish Doller
Review of Something  Like Normal by Trish Doller
No surprise here since everyone kept shouting at me to read it!! SO GLAD I LISTENED!

Most Popular 5 Blog Posts Overall This Month

1. My list of authors who are on my “auto-buy” list  — I don’t even read what their books are about..they just get added!
2. My Top Ten Bookish Memories — I LOVED being able to share some fun and special moments with you guys & hear yours!
3. My first post of a new series I’m doing!
4. My favorite romances — how predictable you GUYS. You guys?  Like swoon and romance? NAHHH.
5. My ode to old books basically — some of you understood my romantical feelings about them and some of you said EW books only. This is why I love you all.

3 New Obsessions In February

1. A gem of a French cafe nearby!
2. These yummy sweet potato tacos Will and I have been making.
3.  This isn’t really a “new” obsession but I’ve been obsessed with listening to the music I loved back in high school/early college. PUNK ROCK PRINCESS!!

2 Things I’m Looking Forward To In March

1. Hopefully some nicer Spring weather! Come on, Mother Nature!
2. Getting a job…gosh I sound redundant every month! But seriously…it is BOUND to happen one of these times!

Favorite Quote From January

There’s an exaggerated kind of industriousness to their movements, bright and false, like kids pretending to be absorbed in taking notes so the teacher doesn’t call on them. Mom is unscrewing a giant bottle of vitamin pills that gives off a scent like rubber flowers, Dad’s pouring himself a glass of water at the sink, and for the first time since Sukey died I can see us clearly, hovering at the intersection of love and avoidance like lost tourists who can’t decide which road will bring them home.”  — Wild Awake by Hilary T. Smith (This quote comes from the ARC  so I’ll have to check against the finished copy when it comes out but gahhh her writing is too beautiful to not share).

What sort of things were noteworthy for you in February? New obsessions? Any new song recs?? Best books you read this month? Gretat posts  I  missed on your blog? Tell me! 🙂

About Jamie

Jamie is a 32 year old married lady (with a new baby!!) who is in denial that she's actually that old to be a married lady and a mom. When she's not reading you can find her doing Pilates followed by eating ice cream, belting out Hamilton (loud and offkey) and having adventures with her husband, daughter and rescue dog.

  1. Ok, I’m officially addicted to Pretty Baby by Brendan Benson. I did not hear that song before, but I love it. I’m having it on repeat in my player right now. 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
I love this feature of yours, there’s always something new & interesting. I’m thinking about ‘stealing’ the idea. 😉
Oh, and I hope next month will bring a lot of great stuff to you and an awesome new job. 🙂

    • YAY! I’m so glad you love it too! And thank you for the compliment! It’s always nice to hear that someone enjoys a feature you do — one that doesn’t always get as much love as compared to other stuff on here. I love sharing music I’m listening to and pieces of my life so I enjoy doing it!

  2. Your picture of that croissant makes me want to go out and find a similar cafe immediately. Newest obsession? BBC televisions show. All of them. I’ve been slowly making my way through 3 or 4. It’s been quite a productivity killer, so I followed that up and retaliated with schedules & spreadsheets of all my goals. I am not usually the person who gets excited about the idea of a spreadsheets, but February has turned me in to that person who has a spreadsheet for school work, summer jobs, blogging schedule, weekly schedule, etc. It’s a bit of a sickness, really.
Also: totally with you on the Spring weather! I’m in Texas, so we’ve already had a bit, but I’m hoping March stops the constant changing weather. Today–high 70 degreees. Yesterday–high 30 degrees. Yuck.

    • You should explore and find an awesome cafe! This place is so tiny but so homey. I love it! You would NEVER find it just wandering which is kind of cool. It’s off the main road and then doesn’t even HAVE a sign in front of it.

I totally haven’t discovered BBC tv shows yet. Any recs?? I know everybody loves Downton!

  3. I can’t wait to read you Unravel Me review! It’s the next book I’m reading and I want to hear your thoughts, especially now that I know it was one of your favourite reads this month! also, good luck with the job search!! 😀

  4. I actually found a new bakery by me and am obsessed with the cheese croissants! Twinsies 🙂

    • YAY I love discovering new places to eat. You must take me there when I come to visit (because even though there is no WILL happen. )

  5. February was a great month! Love your fauxto! So cute! Also, that croissant looks ah-mazing. I need to find me a place like that down here!

  6. I just downloaded Wild Awake from Edelweiss! Thanks for talking it up, Jamie, or I might not have known about it. I’m looking forward to reading it, and to seeing your Unravel Me review!

  7. I can’t wait to hang out with you at the French cafe. Not once, but twice! If you can handle that of course.

  8. I’m so glad we got to see each other last month! It is now my mission in life to ensure that we get to hang out again this March… and it will happen. Quality time with you always manages to make me feel better about everything – my life, my blog and all that jazz.

    (Also, that croissant looks DELICIOUS.)

  9. Thanks for your fun recap. here is mine:

  10. Just keep putting your resume out there and you will get a job. Also check the pennysaver. Like, I randomly submitted my resume to a corporate sales position and got a phone call the very next day. No joke. Granted, I turned the interview down because I didn’t want to spend the gas, but still. You’ll find a job. Just play up your accomplishments and make yourself sound like a total badass on your resume and cover letter. It works.

Also. Punk Rock Princess? As in Something Corporate? That takes me back to high school haha.
