Top Ten YA Books I Recommend The Most – Top Ten Tuesday FREEBIE Week!

toptentuesssTop Ten Tuesday, asΒ  always, is hosted at my other blog — The Broke & the Bookish

This week’s topic: Top Ten Tuesday FREEBIE so I picked Top Ten (YA) Books I Recommend The Most since I missed it two weeks ago (I think it was two weeks).

Β I left out some pretty obvious ones like John Green, Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Hunger Games because they are gimmes at this point. ALSO, I apologize for the too tiny font on the graphic. I was too tired to fix it after the fact. SORRRY.

Contemporary: If you guys have been a reader of this blog forΒ  a while these are the TOP of my GO TO contemporary YA recs! I’m always shoving them on somebody.

Otherworldly: We’ve got the Unearthly series which is one of my favorite paranormal series EVER and I rarely read paranormal. Then Tiger Lily is an amazing fairytale retelling that wrecked me. Under the Never Sky is one of my favorite series right now in the science fiction/dystopian-ish genre. Book two was even better!!

Historical Fiction: These two books have made me cry harder than most books. Fantastic stories and I always recommend them to people even if they think they don’t read historical fiction OR even YA for that matter.

So tell me…are any of these books ones you’ve recommended a lot? Did I recommend any of these to YOU? Which books would you say you recommend the most?

  1. Melissa @Harley Bear Book Blog says:

I used to reread the Jessica Darling series millions of times before blogging bc I didn’t know what else to read and I loved those books so much! Her snarkiness was hilarious. Great list!

  2. The Book Thief was on my list for this topic, too. Such an amazing book! And I still need to read Unearthly and Under the Never Sky.

    My TTT post πŸ™‚

  3. I recommend The Book Thief every chance I get. It envokes so many emotions (at least for me) and is a brillant new take on the Holocaust.

  4. I just finished If I Stay today. So so good. I can see why you recommend it so often

    My TTT

  5. It depends on recomendating to freinds and workmates, or if you mean on the Blog… Because this differs drastically. At work, the one who read the most are the boys and there I need to carefully speak out my recomendations. But.. I was always good and they loved the books I gave them. But there are not so many people around me that read YA .. ;(

  6. It seems like The Book Thief always manages to end up on some Top Ten list one way or another. lol I really need to read this! And Wanderlove! Great choices. πŸ™‚
    My Top Ten Tuesday!

  7. I try to recommend The Book Thief to everyone I know! I agree, the Unearthly series is fantastic. I haven’t read Boundless yet, but I have high hopes for it! Great list!

  8. Ugh I enjoyed Unearthly so much. The romance definitely made the whole book for me, but I’m afraid to start Hallowed because I don’t want all the Tucker-Clara feels to go away! I love how you organized your list πŸ™‚

  9. I definitely agree with Wanderlove and The Book Thief. The rest I still have to read! *ducks*

  10. I actually have most of these books! But I’ve only read If I Stay out of all of them! This is such a great list!

    My TTT

  11. Fab post! I really want to read ‘Under the Never Sky’. I like to recommend the Becca Fitzpatrick ‘Hush Hush’ book and its sequels too. They’re good reads x

  12. Jen (A Reading Daydreamer) says:

Jamie, this list is SO SO ACCURATE. Like, I’m always pushing If I Stay, Anna, and Amy & Roger on people because those contemps are just amazing. AACK. It makes me want to pull out my hair because I haven’t read Under the Never Sky or The Book Thief yet. But yes, Between Shades of Gray is one heck of an amazing novel. HEART. Okay, I’m done fangirling now. Brilliant list, Jamie!

  13. Sloppy Firsts, Under the Never Sky and Wanderloveare all on my tbr. More reason to read it now πŸ˜€ And I agree with Anna and the French Kiss. Totally! πŸ™‚
Top Ten Tuesday @ Divergent Gryffindor

  14. Great choices, I think I could have done a dozen Top 10 books I recommend lists and still not run of titles! The Book Thief is one that I recommend all the time!

    My Top 10 Tuesday!

  15. Le sigh. I’ve only read two of these, and I LOVE them both: Anna and the French Kiss and Tiger Lily. I want to read pretty much all of the others, but I’m weary of books that could make me cry after reading The Fault in Our Stars recently. I really want to read Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour, and Unearthly and Under the Never Sky are in my TBR pile. Thanks for sharing!

Rachel @ Beauty and the Bookshelf

  16. If I Stay and The Book Thief are two books I hear SUCH great things about, yet I still haven’t got round to paying them any attention. One day… One day…

    My TTT: Bookish Pet Peeves

  17. I’m always trying to get people to read Anna and the French Kiss, so much so that I’m loaning out my copy and I hate lending my favourite books out, for fear they’ll never be returned. I actually think I picked it up originally because of your review, that and Between Shades of Grey.

  18. Nope I don’t recommend this books – because I didn’t read any of them. At least not yet. You didn’t recommend them to me yet (if I don’t count this post lol), but you did recommend Something Like Normal by Trish Doller a couple of months ago and I bought it. I hope I will have time to read it soon. πŸ™‚ Which book I recommend the most… Hmmmm… Maybe Graceling by Kristin Cashore.
My pick for freebie was: My top ten hilarious book titles…

  19. I loved both The Book Thief and Between Shades of Gray. Great list am curious about the other books.

  20. The last two books are ones I’ve suggested a lot, especially to adults. The Book Thief is meant for adults in Australia but unfortunately was made into a teen book here. I think it is a harder sell for teens except for those readers who are willing to try something more challenging or those who love historical fiction.

  21. I knew Wanderlove was going to be on your list as soon as I saw the topic Jamie! I got Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour from the library but I haven’t started it yet. I think the books I’ve recommended the most are Looking for Alaska and A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness.

    Great List :).

  22. The only one of these I’ve read is The Book Thief (which I loved)! I’ve seen great things about these other books, but haven’t gotten around to reading them. Ugggh. Why is it so hard to read all the books?! Great list πŸ™‚

  23. I always recommend Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour and Anna and the French Kiss to anyone who’ll listen to me. I love those books! The Book Thief is fantastic too, although a lot of people give me a funny look when I recommend it to them. (Their loss, haha!) I still need to read Wanderlove, I’m hoping I’ll get to it soon. Great list! πŸ™‚

  24. Great choices! I chose this list too, as I was sad that I missed that week. I still need to read the Jessica Darling books…

    Check out my Top Ten!

  25. Great choices Jamie! I need to read all of the contemporary ones, but I LOVED Under the Never Sky and Tiger Lily. πŸ™‚

  26. I love a lot of these! I have yet to read Anna and the French Kiss and Between Shades of Gray though. I will need to check those out!

  27. From your contemp recs I still need to read Sloppy Firsts. Out of the rest I have only read Unearthly!

  28. Ginger @ GReads! says:

I want to say it was you who got me to read If I Stay and Anna and the French Kiss. So yes, you definitely recommend those! hehe

  29. I haven’t read any of these yet but the majority is on my TBR file.

    My TTT

  30. I’ve just finished Anna and the French Kiss and it’s at the top of my recommendations list now! Such an amazing book. I’m looking most forward to reading Tiger Lily!

    My TTT

  31. I have two of these I’ve been wanting to check out for a while – Anna and the French Kiss and Under the Never Sky. Sky is sitting in my ereader right now, but I have GOT to get Anna!

  32. Tiger Lily looks so good, I’ve seen a lot of positive things about it. I definitely want to read it at some point. The others listed here look interesting as well, may need to check them out at some time as well.

  33. OMG, I was just wondering what was up with that! My reader was all THIS POST and I was all cool and I clicked on it and it was like THIS POST IS A DREAM.

Anyway, I have not read four of these, so I lose. But I do like all of the ones I’ve read, so yay!

  34. As you know, you totally recommended the Unearthly trilogy to me – and I’m enjoying it. While I still prefer the first book over the second, I’m eager to see how things wind up for Clara, Tucker and Christian. (Speaking of Christian, I was drawn to him in the second book. GAH.)

  35. I love when you apologize, probably because you remind me of myself when do you do that.

And yes, adding more to my TBR list. I know you’re shocked.

  36. Book Thief…nuff said.

  37. Eeek I haven’t read three of these yet. *hides*

I have to get on it!!!

  38. Wow. I really love your blog/page layout (especially the way you’ve labeled the genre on the side). It’s so cool and clean and efficient and cute looking.

If I Stay and Sloppy Firsts are two books I recommend all the time too. I actually have not read Wanderlove yte, but it’s on my TBR! I’m currently reading Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour, and I loveloveloveee Anna and the French Kiss. I have Unearthly, but I have yet to read it yet (I guess I should fix that…). Fantastic list!

Aimee @ Penmanship Smitten | My TTT

  39. Yes to ALL of these, except Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour which I haven’t read and Unearthly which I wasn’t a huge fan of. I absolutely LOVE Sloppy Firsts, Wanderlove, Anna & the French Kiss, If I Stay, Tiger Lily, The Book Thief (made me cry!), Under the Never Sky, and Between Shades of Grey. Fantastic list, Jamie! πŸ™‚

  40. Okay, maybe I will actually go ahead and read “Sloppy Firsts.” I’ve had my eye on it for a little while, because I really liked Megan McCafferty’s “Bumped/Thumped” duo (I’m assuming it’s the same Megan McCafferty, I could be totally wrong) but was sort of waiting for someone with reasonably similar taste to mine to give it the thumbs up!

I just can’t bring myself to read “Under the Never Sky,” though. Everyone raves about it but the synopsis never really grabbed me and honestly, the hype really puts me off. I have this tendency to hate books that everyone else seems to love. I think my brain does it on purpose to prove a point. I should probably talk to someone about that…

  41. Tiger Lily and Under the Never Sky are on my TBR list for this month so I’m hoping to get to them.

  42. Anna and the French Kiss is the absolute best. Etienne never falls to make me smile. And I need to start Under the Never Sky soon.

    Here is my top 10.

  43. Great list! Love the graphics!!!

  44. Yessssss on THE BOOK THIEF. My chest tightens every time it’s even mentioned. Also, I have UNEARTHLY on my shelf waiting to be read, so I’m excited!

    My TTT:

  45. Pretty sure I rec these books ALLLL the time to folks! Great list!

  46. I once again love your list. I’m happy to see Tiger Lily and Under the Never Sky on there! I was a bit surprised with UtNS, but so happy you recommend it.

  47. I love this list Jamie! So many great reads on here I have and haven’t read yet! i really need to read Tiger Lily!!!

    lily πŸ™‚

  48. Wrote my thesis on The Book Thief. Never ever got tired of reading it. Rec it to everyone. Cry when people tell me they “don’t get it!”

  49. I need to meet Jessica Darling. That is all.

  50. The books I’ve read from this list I read because of your recommendations! And I have Tiger Lily coming up soon…so that one’s worked too!

  51. Jamie, I love your recommendations!
I finished my final exams in school this week and I decided to splurge – guess which books I got thanks to your enthusiastic reviews:
    – eleanor & park
    – something like normal
oh, and I also got these babies
    – this is what happy looks like
    -amy & roger’s epic detour
haha and I “think” you also enjoyed those πŸ˜‰ so yaaaay keep up your great recs!
such a fan of you and your blog. why can’t we be real life neighbours or friends – whyy…

  52. Yeah … I recommend at least 5 of those and at least 3 are on my TBR list! Ha! πŸ™‚ Great picks!

  53. I would definitely recommend Unearthly, that was one of the most surprising books for me, ever!

  54. HI! I’m new to your page, and my friend Book Nerd told me to check you out! πŸ™‚ What a wonderful blog, and I LOVE your choices for your top 10! Iw ould definitely recommend most if not all of those books, lol!

  55. I can’t agree more with this list. Of the ones I’ve read, I also recommend them the most. If I Stay is one of my favorite sad YA books, and the Jessica Darling is always a fun reread, especially after a book like If I Stay. Where She Went was just as heartbreaking.

I feel like Wanderlove doesn’t get enough love. That book is so wonderful. Once I own a copy, I’ll definitely be recommending and lending that one. I need to read more by Kirsten Hubbard.

I own both Amy & Roger or Unearthly, , but I have yet to start it. I have high hopes!

Tigerlily, Shades of Gray and the Book Thief have made me cry. They’re beautiful and heartbreaking.

The only one I ight quibble with is UtNS. I liked it, but I didn’t love it. I have heard aamaaazing things about the sequel, so I haven’t quuuiite given up on this series.

Whew. That was a long comment, but I loved these picks.

  56. I loved Sloppy Firsts!

  57. I would recommend The Book Thief to anybody! It’s one of my all-time favorites. I’ve also had Between Shades of Gray on my Goodreads list for a while. I may have to pick that one up this summer!

  58. I really am loving your blog

  59. Many of those are on my summer reading list! I enjoyed Tiger Lily too! Thanks for sharing your list!

  60. I have read and adored every single one of these books but Wanderlove. Looks like I know what needs to be added to my to-read list! I just discovered your blog and we have the same taste in YA and I’m just so thoroughly excited about it. Subscribed!
