BEA Book Haul!

So, I gave you the scoop about my BEA experience this year and now is the portion of this wrap up where I tell you about the amazing books I was able to learn about and bring home with me….much to Will’s dismay. I was REALLY pleased with the books I received and I was genuinely excited for each and every one that I picked up and was pleasantly surprised by some of the treats the publishers shared with us at events I was so grateful to be invited to. I’ll show you the pictures and then after the pictures I’ll share a little bit about them!

From My Top Ten  List

I talked about books 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8   in my Top Ten Books I Hope To Get At BEA list so you can check out that post for info.

All Our Yesterdays: TIME TRAVEL!! I’m always so desperate for a good time travel novel so I’m hoping this one will fit the bill!
Tandem: I’ve had my eye on it so I was so beyond grateful that Penguin gifted it to us at their luncheon. Of course I was interested in it because it has to do with parallel universes!
Jessica Darling’s It List: OMG THE PREQUEL TO THE JESSICA DARLING SERIES. It’s middle grade but I think all of us hardcore JD fans will love it and I think tweens today will fall in love with Jessica and then move on to the series we all know and love!

From The Expo Floor:

Juvie by Steve Watkins: I picked this one up at the Candlewick booth after Raquel told me about it. A sister confesses to a crime she didn’t commit to save out her troubled sister. She thinks that she won’t get in that much trouble but ends up in juvie! I love books about sister’s so I was ALL over this!
Crown of Midnight by Sarah J.  Maas: Sequel to Throne of Glass which I’ve been DYING to read. Now I have more motivation because I can binge read these two (and then  DIE for the wait for book 3).
These Broken Stars by Meagan Spooner & Amie Kaufman: SPACE!!!!  That’s all I needed to know about this one. I’d heard good things so far so when I saw the authors line I got into it!
Once We Were by Kat Zhang: Sequel to What’s Left of Me which I have on my shelf so yay motivation!
Marie Antoinette, Serial Killer by Katie Alendar: Never heard of this one but I read the back of it at the Scholastic booth and decided it sounded cool — a twist on a classic story in history.
The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black: This one was actually on my top ten books I hope to get at BEA list but I got other books that I didn’t know would be there that pushed it off. You can find out more here.

Off the Expo Floor:

The Weight of Water by Sarah Crossan: I have her debut novel, Breathe, on my shelf but this seems VERY different from this. This one is in verse and it looks like a very poignant and beautifully written coming of age story of an immigrant and her mother. I’m excited because I love novels in verse and the cover is just beautiful.

OCD Love Story: I’ve had my eye on this one for a while. It’s a contemporary YA about two teens who have OCD and meet in group therapy!

When I Was The Greatest: I had never heard of this one but was intrigued after listening to Jason. He’s hilarious and really had a lot of awesome things to say. It’s set in Brooklyn (in the neighborhood where Jason lives) and is about 3 friends living there. From friends who live in NYC,  I hear that this neighborhood is a rough neighborhood so I’ll be interested to read this! I just absolutely loved what Jason had to say and for that fact will be reading this book!

Perfect Ruin: Lauren DeStefano’s newest series…..set in a UTOPIAN world!!

Fire with Fire: Book 2 in Jenny Han & Siobhan Vivian’s collaborative series!

The Indigo Spell: I still need to read VA and then this Bloodlines series but it was in our goodie bag and a signed copy will be waiting for me when I start the series!

Frozen: A new series from Melissa de la Cruz that she and her husband wrote TOGETHER. I wasn’t really aware of this one before. I had heard of it but listening to her talk about it made me really excited! MAGIC & sorcery set on a planet earth that is destroyed and covered in ice. PLUS it is set in Vegas and Vegas is still, as the blurb says, the hedonistic playground it always was.

The Winners Curse: Marie Rutkoski’s newest book and it isn’t out until MARCH 2014!! The only reason I heard about this one is because the girls from Cuddlebuggery got to read this super early and were RAVING about it. All I know is that if you like fantasy…PUT THIS ON YOUR TBR LIST!! I’m excited to find out about it!

Turn Around Bright Eyes by Rob Sheffield: You might remember how I raved about Love Is A Mixtape. This is his latest book and I’m excited. Rob is an AWESOME guy and I’ve gotten to speak with him a few times. He knows music and his passion for it and how it is so important in his life just exudes out of his books!

Belladona by Fiona Paul: I haven’t yet read Venom but it’s a historical fiction/paranormal series set in Renaissance Italy. I’m excited to read something that’s paranormal but not set in the contemporary realm.

Unbreakable by Kami Garcia: Sounds like the start of a dark paranormal/urban fantasy series full of demons and dark forces. I’m intrigued because most of the paranormal (I don’t read a lot of it) is pretty light.

From What I Remember: This one has been out for a while but it’s one I’ve been wanting to read so YAY! Kinda reminds me of the Hangover in the summary haha.

So that’s my haul — 28 books in all (my goal was under 30 so PSH YAH)! Which books are you most excited for? Which ones had you never heard of but now might check out?

About Jamie

Jamie is a 32 year old married lady (with a new baby!!) who is in denial that she's actually that old to be a married lady and a mom. When she's not reading you can find her doing Pilates followed by eating ice cream, belting out Hamilton (loud and offkey) and having adventures with her husband, daughter and rescue dog.

  1. So jealous of Coldest Girl in Coldtown – that was the one line I did not have the patience to wait in at BEA:p I’ve already read Rose Under Fire and Crown of Midnight, and both lived up to my insanely high expectations, so I hope you like them!

  2. I HATE YOU! and by I hate you.. I mean I am super jealous and happy for you all at once! What an awesome haul of books, I am esp. stoked about the Jessica Darling book!

  3. I’m most excited about The Dream Thieves! I hadn’t heard of Tandem and All Our Yesterdays but they both sound interesting!

  4. I want to go to BEA some day! ahh!!! Looks like you got some great books! How much money would you suggest you save up for attending BEA? For Books, hotel fees, food etc. I’m just trying to get a ball park figure so maybe I can save to go one year…

  5. MAJOR jealousy right here…!

  6. I hope you had tons of fun! I was super jealous of you because of all the great books you’ve received!

  7. CROWN OF MIDNIGHT!! (Yes, that needed to be in all caps. :D)

Also, I’d never heard of These Broken Stars before, but it sounds good! I’m definitely excited for it now.

  8. I had never heard of most of these before but the one I really want is OCD Love Story. It looks awesome.Still trying to rein in my jealousy over your BEA book haul.

  9. Such a great haul and you did so great at not being greedy! I was not so lucky. Maybe next year I will be better? At any rate, it was so great to meet you and I hope they do the Rooftop party next year and maybe I will get an invite? LOL.

  10. Ooohh, jealous of The Dream Thieves. Congrats on a nice haul! Glad you had a great time. 🙂

  11. Excellent haul! I can’t wait to see your opinions on all of them! 🙂

  12. Your haul looks amazing! Fangirl looks really good and it’s really cool that you got a bound manuscript of a book that you were looking forward to!

my biggest question right now: how did you manage to get all of those books home with you? you must be some kind of strong muscle-y woman!

  14. You have “Fire with Fire”? I am SO jealous. I’d not heard of “Counting by 7s” but I’m intrigued now. Thanks for the tip!

  15. Those all look lovely 🙂 I found some new books to add to the reading pile. Thanks so much

  16. I know I have been telling everyone this, but TELL ME YOUR FEELS AFTER YOU FINISH THE WINNER’S CURSE. Whew. LOL. I must know!

Also, I didn’t realize there were different books in each goodie bag at the rooftop party. Good thing I got the other one, otherwise, I would have gotten doubles from BEA books.

  17. OMG, look at all of those amazing books! There are so many books there that I’ve been dying to get my hands on! Have fun reading!
    My STS

  18. They all look so amazing! Loved your recaps too. Hope I’ll get to make the trip someday!

  19. I envy you and that ginormous haul. It’s already bad enough that you lucky people get to go to BEA, you have to get books too. Harrumph.

😀 Kidding. I still feel a little jealous at times now, but I don’t know, it’s so much smaller now. Happy reading! And you know, if you finished any of them and wanted to send it to the Philippines . . . *hint hint wink wink*

  20. I am so jealous, that is an AMAZING haul!

  21. You know that I’m totally going to be reminding you to read Throne of Glass/Crown of Midnight, right? I love that series. It’s clearly a favorite for me, considering how much I gush and discuss it all the time! Apart from that, you’ve certainly picked up some great books. Happy reading!

  22. I got all of your top ten, except for two that got lost in the mail. Sad day. Oh, and for Stiefvater, because her books and I haven’t been the best of friends.

Anywho, I love how pretty your blog is. How do you make all those graphics? I want them all. Random comment of admiration is random.

  23. I’m dying to read The Coldest Girl In Coldtown. The short story was so excellent, I did a very happy dance when I learned she was doing a similar novel. And the Dream Thieves looks like it’ll be really interesting.

I hadn’t heard of a lot of these, but now my TBR list is suspiciously longer than it was this afternoon…

  24. Omigosh that is one amazing book haul!!! I really need to read Rainbow Rowell’a books, people are raving about her and I love the covers if them! I’m really hoping to get to BEA next year for the first time, it seems like SO MICH FUN!
