TTTlogo

Top Ten Tuesday, asΒ  always, is hosted at my other blog — The Broke & the Bookish

This week’s topic: Top Ten Books On My Fall 2013 TBR List

Β I’m super terrible at sticking to any sort of list but I love making them and at least TRYING to prioritize each season what I’ll read. And because I just making lists and looking at my books and getting excited about them. haha.

The Duke And I by Julia Quinn: In my 2nd adult fiction pick from my Courting The Adult Genre project, I will tackle this historical fiction novel!

Diva by Jillian Larkin: This is the final book in the Flappers trilogy! I love this trilogy and I have waited far too long to finish it! Check out my review of Vixen to see what this series is all about!

What Happens Next by Colleen Clayton: Estelle over at Rather Be Reading let me borrow this one FOREVER ago and I haven’t picked it up yet. I AM THE WORST. Especially since I’ve heard great things!

These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman/Meagan Spooner: SPACE! SPACE! SPACE! I snagged this one at BEA and I’m excited to read it!

The Paradox of Vertical Flight: This looks like a ME book and super quirky and I’ve heard initial great things about it so WE WILL SEE.

Across A Star-Swept Sea by Diana Peterfreund: I loved For Darkness Shows The Stars and this book is set in the same world but different characters! Diana’s writing is so beautiful and lovely so I hope I will love this one!

All The Truth That’s In Me by Julie Berry: I always love a good mystery and this hadn’t been on my radar until it showed up in my mailbox and it looks so good. It sounds kind of twisted! I don’t know…that’s just the sense I get from the summary and the cover.

Love Letters From The Dead: I STARTED this one but had to put it down due to books with more pressing release dates but I want to pick it up ASAP because it’s awesome so far. The MC tells her story through letters to famous dead people. It had a hold on me within the first few pages.

The Promise of Amazing: This looks like a cute contemporary romance that’s been on my radar for a bit!

Cress by Marissa Meyer: I let a friend borrow this before she left the country and she said it was awesome so this is DEFINITELY on my Fall list. I’m starting Scarlet as we speak so it doesn’t quite make the “Fall” cut off or else I would have doubled up and put them together.

So tell me…have you read any of these? Any on your tbr list? What books are you making a priority this Fall? Which ones of my list should be of highest priority??

  1. Love your graphics Jamie! I have What Happens Next sitting on my shelf too!

I’m SOOO looking forward to Love Letters to the Dead. It sounds amazing.

Do you mean Winter 2014 though in your graphic? I was a bit confused at first, haha.

  2. how on earth did I forget about Cress booo me. Goodness oh okay it looks like it’s not out until February you had me having a heart attack haha

    My Top Ten

  3. I can’t wait for These Broken Stars! That one made my list too, definitely one of my most-anticipated books this year. I’m also really excited to read Across a Star-Swept Sea! Looooooved ‘Darkness’, and the fact that the sequel will follow different characters just makes me even more excited. πŸ˜€

    • I feel like everyone has These Broken Stars on their list! It’s gotten SUCH good buzz and positive feedback from trusted bloggers!

  4. Jamie, you and I have one book in common in our lists this week. I am dying for Cress! I can’t wait to get my hands on that book. SO excited. I read What Happens Next in one sitting last winter and I really enjoyed it. It’s the type of book that you can read in one sitting. I hope you find time to get to all the books you mentioned and more this fall.

    ~Sara @ Just Another Story

    • I’m glad to hear you say that about What Happens Next! Always nice to get a good boost of confidence on a book on your list..makes me more excited!!

  5. CRESS!! YES.

  6. Really looking forward to The Promise of Amazing. SO envious of your Cress ARC! The Paradox of Vertical Flight looks interesting, checking that out on Goodreads now…

  7. I’m also absolutely terrible at actually sticking to this sort of list, so even the best laid plans and best intentions seem to go astray for me somewhere along the way. I was a little disappointed to find I had only read three of the ten books I chose for my Summer ‘to-be-read’ list, and I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to do better in the Fall. Fingers crossed! πŸ˜€

I’ll be looking forward to reading your thoughts on What Happens Next. I read it in 2012 and while I did like it, I found it wasn’t without its fair share of problems, particularly in terms of the resolution (or lack thereof) at the conclusion of the novel. I do appreciate that it tackled such difficult, and important, subject matter for young adults, though.

Like you, I’m also really looking forward to Love Letters From The Dead! I adore epistolary novels and I think the concept is absolutely unique. Plus, that cover? It’s a little bit to die for (No pun intended, surprisingly) πŸ˜‰

    • Ah man! I meant to take a look at my list from Summer to see how well I did!

Interested to see what you are talking about with What Happens next!

      Teheh you are so punny.

  8. Eeeep! Great list! These Broken Stars is already one of my favourites for this year. And i’m so crazy excited for All The Truth That’s In Me and Cress!! Oh man, I want Cress so badly. Great list!

    My Top Ten

  9. I want to read so many of the books on your list this week. I have These Broken Stars to read as well.

  10. Ah Cress!! You have an awesome list for this Fall. There are so many I’ve been wanting to read and a few that are new to me, so I’m definitely going to have to look into them.

  11. The Paradox of Vertical Flight, Cress and Fangirl are books I’m really excited about!

    Check out my TTT here:

  12. I need to read the last two Flapper books too! I loved the first one, so I don’t know why I haven’t yet?
    My TTT

  13. Wow, you have so many good books on your TBR. I’ve been hearing GREAT things about The Paradox of Vertical Flight. I’m hoping it lives up to the hype. It sounds like an interesting concept.

  14. 1. I love your graphics.
    2. I love all your pretty skirts/dresses.
    3. I love your list. (Cress is REALLLLLLY GOOD.)
    4. HAPPY READING.

    • I love your list of comments.

      1. Thank you!
      2. THANK YOU. I’m still loving that I can wear dresses and looking disdainfully at the thermometer as it keeps dipping lower and lower.
      3. THANK YOUU. I’m so glad to hear you say this! I’ve only heard great things from people who have already read it!
      4. IS THERE ANY OTHER WAY TO READ BUT HAPPY? πŸ˜›

  15. THE PROMISE OF AMAZING and THESE BROKEN STARS (in fact, I’ve seen the latter on like every list) are on my list, too! They look so good! I want to read CRESS, and ah, DIVA–I still need to read that one, too; I love the trilogy! THE PARADOXICAL OF VERTICAL FLIGHT looks good, too. Great list!

    • TBS really HAS been on every list!!

Re: Flappers series — did you like book 2? I thought it was okay..not as good as Vixen..so I’m hoping this one will be WOWSA.

  16. I cannot wait for Across A Star-Swept Sea to come out. I adore Diana Peterfreund, and the premise of the book intrigues me.

I’m really excited about starting the Lunar Chronicles. πŸ˜€

  17. I read my first Julia Quinn a few days ago (#4 in the Bridgerton series). I hope you enjoy her style. Here’s my TTT
    Vilia @ Backchatting Books

  18. I love making lists too! πŸ˜€ But try as I might, I rarely am able to stick to them! πŸ˜›

These Broken Stars (The cover is sooo beautiful!), Across a Star-Swept Sea and Cress look amazing! πŸ˜€

  19. Casee Marie says:

I’m so glad you’re going to try Julia Quinn! I’ve read a few of hers, they were all warm and witty and so sweet. I haven’t read The Duke and I, but I brought it to a signing last year because I fully expect it to be a fave. That series is so well-loved by her readers.

I made a TBR list for the summer and got distracted halfway through. πŸ˜‰ But I do know this fall I’m hoping to read more Edith Wharton; I read The House of Mirth earlier this year and LOVED it!

  20. This season there’s LOADS of great new releases and I cry. Because my plan is to catch up with all the reading I’ve been procrastinating with.

  21. What Happens Next was one of my favorite reads the year it came out. The boy in it is so adorable I can’t even. Every one needs a Corey Livingston for sure.

    Great list.

  22. These Broken Stars is on my TBR list. I’m super looking forward to it! The cover is absolutely stunning!
I’ll be adding For Darkness Shows The Stars and Across the Star-Swept Sea to my TBR list. The covers of these two books are so gorgeous!
I’ll also be adding Marissa Meyer’s Cinder, Scarlet and Cress to my TBR pile. They seemed like a retelling of fairy tales with a sci-fi bent? Seems interesting!
The Promise of Amazing seemed adorable and sweet! I’m gonna add it to my list too!
Thanks for your recommendations! The books are all sound so amazing!

Can I just ask how you did your graphics? They are so pretty! I love them!

  23. I have The Promise of Amazing on my list to read, too! Looking forward to that one.

PS – how cute are you with your fall-ish pics?!

  24. These Broken Stars is AMAZING. The romance is one of the best written I’ve ever found in YA. All my personal favorite things: different social classes, slow burn, survival, etc. Love Letters to the Dead looks terrific as well! And Cress? Let me just sneak my hand through the computer screen and read while you’re not looking. I wasn’t a huge fan of For Darkness Shows the Stars but I still want to give Across a Star-Swept Sea a try.

  25. I LOVE Julia Quinn!!! The Bridgerton’s are my favorite but ALL her books are great πŸ™‚ Enjoy!

  26. These Broken Stars is the only one of those I’ve read and I LOVED IT. And you have a copy of Cress? *jealous*

  27. Definitely looking forward to Cress as well, can’t wait to hear what you thought of it! Nice list! Here’s mine http://wordsofmysteryblog.wordpress.com/2013/09/17/top-ten-tuesdays-fall-2013-tbr-list/

  28. I’m really excited for These Broken Stars and All The Truth That’s in Me (still hoping I get approved for it on NetGalley!). And CRESS! I hope you enjoy it. *sigh* It sucks that we have to wait until 2014 to read it, but at least it comes out in February! Something to look forward to, haha ;P

  30. Wow! You have a HUGE pile to read this fall! I’m only going to select a few. Louis Duncan – the same author who wrote I know what you did last summer. Hopefully, he is still as awesome as I remember as a kid.

  31. Absolutely LOVELY list – and I’ve been itching to pick up some Julia Quinn too! – but I have to admit The Paradox of Vertical Flight was a huge DNF for me. It sounded FAB and I thought for sure it was a total Leah book, but I was wrong. The author is only 22 and the writing felt overly pretentious, like he was trying too hard to prove he’s a ~serious author~

I hope you have better luck with it than I did!

  32. I really hope you like The Duke and I, Jamie! It’s one of my favorite Julia Quinn novels! I want to read The Promise of Amazing, too. And Cress!

  33. These Broken Stars, Across a Star-Swept Sea, The Truth Within Me. Need all of these right now. And omg Cress. I want it so bad!! I’m so jealous that you have a copy…

  34. These Broken Stars and The Promise of Amazing are on my list as well πŸ™‚ Great picks!

  35. Fun list and great pictures!

  36. These Broken Stars have made every list that I’ve seen so far! Great picks. Super jealous you have Cress! I can’t wait to read it! Also, I LOVE your graphics! They’re always so cute!

    Here’s My TTT

  37. Oh I am so ridiculously jealous of Cress! Great list! I’ll have to check the ones not on my TBR out.

  38. I can’t wait to start These Broken Stars! Hopefully soon. πŸ™‚ It sounds amazing! Happy Reading!

  39. I am SO excited about Cress! I loved both Cinder and Scarlet. Thanks to your list, I’ve now added What Happens Next (one of my students is currently reading and loving this book), The Paradox of Vertical Flight, and These Broken Stars to my TBR list.

  40. I absolutely love your blog design! It’s so pretty πŸ™‚ I’m a new follower via bloglovin!

I haven’t started Scarlet yet either, but I’m really excited for Cress. I haven’t heard of the other books on your list, but I’ll check them out.

    Here’s my TTT post.

  41. YOU HAVE CRESS? :O *breathe Mel, breathe*

  42. I loved Cress and These Broken Stars. I am reading Across a Star Swept Sea now. I’ve not heard of some of these…so I’ll have to look them up πŸ™‚ Great list and I hope you enjoy them all.

    My Friends Are Fiction’s TTT

  43. These Broken Stars looks really good! It seems to be on a lot of people’s lists! Across a Star-Swept Sea sounds good, I just got the first one from the library! And The Promise of Amazing looks adorable! I’m really excited for that one!

  44. First of all, your graphic design on this site is unbelievable, and I love all the pictures of the books snuggled up to your lap. πŸ™‚ I had never heard of Love Letters to the Dead, but I just read the Goodreads description and I’ll definitely be checking it out. Thanks for a great recommendation!

  45. The Promise of Amazing looks really good. I want to read that book as well. I hope you enjoy all of your fall books.

    Here is my TTT: http://jacquesbooknook.blogspot.be/2013/09/top-ten-tuesday-books-on-my-fall-2013.html

  46. I’m horrible at sticking to lists, too…but that doesn’t stop me from making dozens of them. It’s a compulsion! πŸ˜‰ I almost added These Broken Stars and The Promise of Amazing to my list too but I’m going to wait as long as possible to read them (which might not actually happen) so I can get caught up on other books. Great list, Jamie! πŸ™‚

  47. The graphics are amazing, so autumn-ish and cool.

These Broken Stars is so popular today! I’ve also seen The Promise of Amazing on a couple of lists (including mine, ha ha).

  48. Great list! I haven’t actually heard of most of these books — will be looking forward to seeing what you think and then adding more to my TBR! I keep hearing SUCH amazing things about Cress, and was super excited to binge-read both Scarlet and Cress next year … only to find out that there’s a book four in the works? I want to finish the whole series NOW! *pouts*

  49. I love your graphics! These Broken Stars and Across a Star-Swept Sea are both on my list this week! I’m really looking forward to Cress! I need to check out some of the others like The Paradox of Vertical Flight and The Promise of Amazing!

  50. First of all, your dresses/skirts are ADORABLE. I can’t wait for cooler weather – though I’m not usually a seasonal-genre reader, for some reason I always want to read historical romance in the fall/winter. Lauren Willig is my go-to author for historical romance, so I might continue on with her Pink Carnation series. πŸ™‚ And Love Letters from the Dead – JEALOUS. I can’t wait to read that one. And Cress, of course. Excellent list!

  51. Yes to Cress (How on earthdid you get it?! I find Macmillan a little prickly with requests myself. Jealous!). And yes to your graphic! They’re always so darling. Do you do them yourself?

  52. So I got to read These Broken Stars through NG and it was phenomenal, I’m so excited for you to read it πŸ˜€

    My Fall TBR

  53. These Broken Stars and All The Truth That’s In Me are both books I’m so excited to read! I have a major case of ARC-envy because of your copy of Cress but I’m happy that you get to review it so we can experience the feels with you. Great list and enjoy! πŸ™‚

  54. The Promise of Amazing is on my list because of you! Thanks! πŸ™‚

    My TTT

  55. Okay, a.) I love the story lines of many of your TBR lists and b.) color me jealous you actually have them! Wow, *dying* to read ‘Stars,’ ‘Amazing’ and ‘Cress.’ CAN. NOT. WAIT. πŸ™‚

  56. The Duke and I is so cute. That whole series is easily my favorite historical romance set.

These Broken Stars made my list as well. Such a gorgeous cover and I’ve heard so many great things.

Across A Star-Swept Sea, All The Truth That’s In Me, Love Letters to the Dead and The Promise of Amazing are all on my tbr list, through not on my TTT list. There are so many great books coming out this fall it was hard to choose.

  57. Um, I LOVE that you changed your skirt/dress for each category. And they are all really cute. πŸ™‚ Sorry I didn’t comment at all about the actual books haha.

  58. I totally own the first two books in that Flappers series, but still haven’t read it. OOPS.

These Broken Stars and The Paradox of Vertical Flight are both on my BEA ARC list too, though I think I’m getting the audio of the latter instead, because I think I might like this one better that way. Also, you will love Across a Star-Swept Sea. All the Truth That’s in Me is really original, but also very strange. I liked it!

Please let Love Letters to the Dead be good. Also, how do you have Cress already? I NEEDS IT.

  59. I am so excited for These Broken Stars! I’ll probably be starting it next week. And as soon as I get my little grubbies on Cress, I’m going to fall off the plant for a couple days! Enjoy all your fall reads!

  60. I’m really looking forward to Cress, The Promise of Amazing and Across a Star Swept Sea are high on my TBR. They can’t be released soon enough! πŸ™‚

  61. Oh my goodness! So many books on here that I want to read – These Broken Stars, Cress, The Truth That’s In Me, The Promise of Amazing, Across the Star-Swept Sea… GAH! Woman, you’ve got some great-sounding reads ahead of you this fall!

  62. Cress sounds like it will be a great read. Great list!
