October Most Wanted

new books out October 2013I know I always highlight upcoming releases in my Catalog Creepin’ posts but typically those are far off when the catalog just comes out. I wanted to highlight the books I’m excited about/intrigued about that I think you should be looking at, too!

A Contemporary Pick

How To Love by Katie Cotugno

I’ve heard some good things and just received a finished copy of this one so I’m excited to pick it up! I typically don’t pick up teen pregnancy type books but I’ve heard this one does it really well sooo we will see!

A Mystery Pick

Picture Me Gone by Meg Rosoff

I’m always looking for a good mystery type read and I hadn’t heard anything when it showed up in my mailbox but it piqued my interest a bit. I have a good feeling!

An “I don’t even know what genre but it sounds awesome” pick

9780670786206_ManMadeBoy_JK.inddIt sounds like it is a mix of fantasy and paranormal and has a retelling element to it? I DON’T EVEN KNOW. It showed up, I never heard of it and then I read the summary and I saw “the son of Frankenstein’s monster and the bride” and I was like YES PLEASE. I love a unique premise that is unlike ANYTHING I’ve heard of.

2 Books From Authors I’ve Previously Loved

Reality Boy by AS King

I really loved Please Ignore Vera Dietz by AS King and this one sounds SO good as it tells the story of a boy who was, at 5 years old, thrust into the spotlight of reality tv.

Across A Star Swept SeaI am obsessed with For Darkness Shows The Stars and I am SO PUMPED for this one that I almost wept a little when I got it at BEA. It’s a retelling of The Scarlet Pimpernel set in the same world as FDSTS. YEEHAW.

October Releases I’ve Read:
Just One Year by Gayle FormanOh YOU KNOW. Just my favorite author with a new book. No big deal. Check out my review of Just One Year by Gayle Forman.

So guys, which ones have you read? Which ones are you excited for? What are some other October releases you are looking forward to or have read that I don’t have on here? And for the love of puppies, please tell me which ones I should read FIRST?

About Jamie

Jamie is a 32 year old married lady (with a new baby!!) who is in denial that she's actually that old to be a married lady and a mom. When she's not reading you can find her doing Pilates followed by eating ice cream, belting out Hamilton (loud and offkey) and having adventures with her husband, daughter and rescue dog.

  1. I think you’ll really like How To Love, despite the fact that it’s a pregnancy book. It’s much more about the relationships then any actual pregnancy.

  2. I just got a finished copy of How To Love too! I’ve heard great things so I’m looking forward to reading it! And like you, I really don’t dwell much on books that are about teenage pregancy so maybe reading this one would convince me to look into such books more often. Picture Me Gone looks like a really good mystery novel! I recently got a copy of Rosoff’s How I Live Now but I still haven’t picked it up! Hopefully it’s good. 🙂 HOW CAN I EVEN EXPRESS HOW EXCITED I AM ABOUT JUST ONE YEAR HOW HOW HOW. I’m super jealous you’ve already read it! But ahhh just a few more days and I’ll be getting my hands on it too! *flails more intensely* As for other releases I’m excited about, I’m quite psyched about House of Hades and Allegiant! October is going to be freaking great!

  3. How to Love! I’ve got a serious case of grabbie hands over that one. Can’t wait to read it myself!

My excitement for Just One Year can’t even be put into words. 🙂

  4. I’m definitely going crazy waiting for the release of Just One Year and Allegiant.

Premeditated, Tandem and The Dollhouse Asylum are on my list, too!

  5. I say How To Love because I plan to read that this month at some point. 🙂

  6. Haven’t heard of many of these and the covers and premises hooked me. Thanks for sharing, Jamie 🙂

  7. HOW TO LOVE is so, so good. I scanned a bit of it (after having it read a few months before) for writing my review and all the feels were rehashed. When I see a finished copy, I might drool. I hope you really like it!

  8. Allegiant!!!!! It even comes out on my birthday which is even better! My mum thinks I’m slightly crazy as she asked for my bday list and Allegiant is the only thing on it! I’m slightly obsessed! 🙂

  9. I’m seriously excited for Just One Year and How to Love. I’ve heard great things about both and I love books about relationships. I’m also looking forward to Eat, Brains, Love because I think it’ll be a quick, funny book to read in between some of the more serious ones. And, of course, Allegiant comes out this month. If I had your books, I’d definitely read Just One Year first. I can’t wait for mine to get here!

  10. I am in love with the cover for Across a Star-Swept Sea. I have the prequel for that series on my Kindle, but I’m waiting until I can read book one right after. I’m moving in less than a month and the thing that excites me most is heading to the library for a card and a giant stack of books.

  11. I am also totally excited for Man Made Boy, the premise sounds so unique and interesting! I also loved Please Ignore Vera Dietz and I’m really excited for Reality Boy. October definitely has to be the ultimate new releases month! Great list 🙂

  12. OMG, Man Made Boy sounds so crazy interesting! I hadn’t heard of it before, but Frankenstein’s creature’s son and Jekyll and Hyde’s granddaughters?!?!?! Sounds awesome. I REALLY hope it’s done well!

  13. I finished How To Love today and it was surprisingly powerful! I loved Man Made Boy also 😉
    -Scott Reads It!

  14. I actually didn’t really enjoy Picture Me Gone, but the ending was great and it’s thought-provoking. I haven’t read the others, but they all sound great!

  15. I enjoyed Man made boy :0) and also Just one year. I have the others to read in my pile lol . There are some amazing books coming out this month.

  16. I really enjoyed How to Love! I think you’ll love it too, despite it being about a teen pregnancy. And I’ve seen some really great things about both Just One Day and Just One Year! I need to pick them both up!
