New To The Queue {1}

New To the Queue is going to be a sporadic thing around here wherein I tell you some of the books, movies, tv shows and bands I’ve recently added to my never ending queue of things to read/watch/listen to.

My Last Kiss Bethany NealMy Last Kiss by Bethany Neal
Release Date – June 2014

Why I Added It To My To-Be-Read list: I love afterlife-y kind of books + I received a review copy.

What It’s About: Cassidy dies and is trapped in this life grappling with the fact she’s dead and also trying to remember what happened surrounding her death as the last few weeks leading up to that are a blur to her. She remembers kissing a boy at her 17th birthday party but she can’t remember much else but she has a feeling it has something to do with her death that everyone thinks is a suicide.

The Summer I Wasn't Me Jessica VerdiThe Summer I Wasn’t Me by Jessica Verdi
Release Date – April 2014

Why I Added It To My To-Be-Read list:
Honestly? Because Gillian sold me on it. On Goodreads she said, “Super powerful and heartbreaking, but also funny and charming in parts.” I like books like that!

What It’s About: Lexi’s mom found out that Lexi is in love with a girl and she’s pretty sure her whole family is going to fall apart over it. She spends her summer at New Horizons camp where she’s going to try and change and learn to like boys…until she falls in love with another camper and knows she’s going to have to risk giving up her mother’s approval or someone she really loves.

Brooklyn Girls Gemma BurgessBrooklyn Girls by Gemma Burgess
Published July 2013

Why I Added It To My To-Be-Read list:
I forgot about it! I had requested it on a whim on Netgalley and got really behind on what I had on thereΒ  so it got lost in the land of stuff on my Kindle. I had never added it to my official to-be-read list so I’ve just added it and am excited to have re-discovered it.

What It’s About: Twenty-somethings living and working together and just generally trying to figure out post-grad life in Brooklyn. It’s a series and OMG I AM SO EXCITED BECAUSE THIS IS EVERYTHING I WANT New Adult books to be.

Why I Added It To My Netflix Queue: EVERYONE TALKS ABOUT THIS. I feel like I’m missing out.

What It Is About: “This modern-day reboot of Sherlock Holmes has Arthur Conan Doyle’s deductive genius moving through London as a Web-adept consultant to Inspector Lestrade, and Dr. John Watson as a veteran of the war in Afghanistan who shares his Baker Street digs.”

Dallas Buyers Club
Why I Added It To My Netflix Queue: I kept hearing about it during the Golden Globes + I really love Matthew McConaughey a lot so immediately added it even though it doesn’t come out until March!

What It Is About: “Loosely based on true events, this drama follows Ron Woodroof, who refuses to accept he’ll die in 30 days when he’s diagnosed with AIDS in 1986. He extends his life and eventually helps many other AIDS patients by smuggling medications from abroad.”

70177495Tonight You’re Mine

Why I Added It To My Netflix Queue: I have this thing for quirkier kind of love stories plus MUSIC related.

What It Is About: “Shot over the course of five days at Scotland’s annual T in the Park music festival, this unconventional romance centers on a pair of bickering rockers who are handcuffed together; 24 hours later, they’re falling in love.”

Town of Saints

Why I Added It To My Musical Rotation: I just discovered their song “Carousel” and really dug it and kept playing it over and over again. Also really love Stand Up.

Little Daylights

Why I Added It To My Musical Rotation: I AM OBSESSED WITH THEM. Electro-pop-rock-synth goodness. I love every song but especially Overdose & Restart.

Warpaint’s self titled album

Why I Added It To My Musical Rotation: I really loved Warpaint’s album from 2010 (especially the song Undertow) so naturally I had to check out Warpaint’s new album when it came out two days ago.Β  Songs I’m Digging The Most: Love Is To Die & Hi. If you are a Beach House fan, you might dig these guys too.

YOUR TURN! Tell me one book you added to your TBR list recently! Tell me a movie/tv show you added to your must watch list! Tell me a new band/singer you just added to your musical rotation! Also, have you read/watched/listened to anything on my recently added list? Tell me, tell me!

About Jamie

Jamie is a 32 year old married lady (with a new baby!!) who is in denial that she's actually that old to be a married lady and a mom. When she's not reading you can find her doing Pilates followed by eating ice cream, belting out Hamilton (loud and offkey) and having adventures with her husband, daughter and rescue dog.

  1. Ooooh! I love this. I just got “My Last Kiss” in the mail! Can’t wait to compare thoughts!

  2. I looooveee the cover of The Last Kiss! I really hope it’s good! You must tell me. πŸ˜€

Oh my god, yeeeessss. New music to listen to! “Electro-pop-rock-synth” music is my absolute fave. I am loving “Overdose.” I started listening to the National’s latest album. I can’t believe I haven’t listened to it until now!

  3. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I love your new feature, Jamie! As much as I love reading about books, I also love when book bloggers give their readers a glimpse of other aspects of their lives. Plus, you introduced me to My Last Kiss, which I hadn’t heard of prior to your post πŸ˜€

I think my favourite part of your post, however, has to be the musical section. I’m always on the lookout for new albums and we seem to have similar taste in music, so I was really excited to see you had devoted an entire section to it πŸ™‚ Although I was unfamiliar with their prior work, I had pre-ordered Warpaint’s newest, self-titled album after listening to a preview of ‘Love Is To Die’, and I’m so thankful I did. It’s atmospheric, moody and quite different from what I normally gravitate toward. I love the songs you mentioned and also really enjoy ‘Teese’. I’m going to go look up Little Daylight and Town of Saints right away!

In terms of albums I’ve discovered lately, I’m currently obsessed with Capital Cities ‘In A Tidal Wave of Mystery’. I’ve been listening to it non-stop ever since I purchased it a week ago and I can already tell it’s going to be a favourite of mine in 2014, even if it was released last year. My favourite song has to be ‘Kangaroo Court’, although I also love ‘Safe and Sound’, ‘Chartreuse’ and ‘Farrah Fawcett Hair’. I’m also really enjoying CΕ“ur De Pirate’s ‘Trauma : Chansons De La SΓ©rie TΓ©lΓ© (Saison No. 5)’ It’s haunting and absolutely beautiful. I love her cover of Amy Winehouse’s ‘You Know I’m No Good’ and also really like ‘Lucille’ and her cover of The National’s ‘Slow Show’, which I never thought I would ever want to hear anyone else sing given how much I adore the original.

  4. Sherlock is amazing! I think it’s because there’s only three really long episodes per season. It means they can spend a lot of time on them and make them really fantastic. I hope you enjoy it!

  5. Adding my OMG YAY SHERLOCK comment. Also you totally reminded me that I need to watch Dallas Buyers Club. Jared. Leto. Swoooooooon.

  6. Sherlock is sooooo good! You’ll love it! Brooklyn Girls sounds awesome, I just added it to my wishlist.

  7. Love that! I started a new feature yesterday. It’s always exhilarating and a bit scary to try new things on the blog I think. Yay, for Brooklyn Girls (it’s v cute). And I’ll definitely have to check out your music recs.

In case you don’t obesessively check your Tweets thirty times a minute this could be a new comment to you. (Don’t think so, ha!)

  8. Everyone keeps telling me to check out Sherlock and I keep putting it off and I DON’T KNOW WHY! Doctor Who is starting to suck so I need something to restore my faith in my home country. Hopefully Sherlock will do that or I’m going to give up and go all American for my TV schedule.

  9. I’m going to add my Sherlock fangirl scream to this post. SQUEEE SHERLOCK! It’s my favorite show behind Doctor Who, and I’m so happy you want to start it. I hope you love it. πŸ˜€

  10. First: I just got into Sherlock myself & it’s SO GOOD. It’s easy to get caught up on too since seasons 1 & 2 are only 3 episodes (each an hour & a half long). I think you’ll really like this show.

Second: Tonight You’re Mine is really, really good. This is the film that inspired my want to write a story set over the course of a music festival πŸ˜‰

Third: Warpaint is opening for The National here in Austin in April & I am so unbelievably sad to miss the show!!! It’s just not manageable for me with school, work + student teaching to drive out of town during the week. BLOWS.

  11. I just read The Summer I Wasn’t Me and I think you’ll love it! Jessica Verdi is one of my all time favourite authors. πŸ™‚

  12. Sherlock super fangirl here as well! That show is so amazing, I literally have physical reactions to it. The season 2 finale made me sick to my stomach, it was so intense. I love it!

  13. Firstly, I’m loving this new feature, Jamie! As much as I love books and love to see what other bloggers are reading, that little glimpse into other interests is great.

THE SUMMER I WASN’T ME sounds absolutely lovely – and is so up my alley! There are so few GLBT novels in YA and I’m always on the hunt for more. (Bloomsbury has out coming out this summer that I enjoyed -Caela Carter’s My Best Friend, Maybe)

SherlockSherlockSherlockSherlock. You must watch it, Jamie!! Season 3 just kicked off on Sunday here in the US (although some of my friends went the torrent route and watched the whole thing as it aired in the UK). The seasons are only three episodes long; you can definitely catch up in time to watch the newest episode!

Tonight You’re Mine sounds like a movie made for me (read: Scotland + music ♥)! Yesterday I asked a bunch of facebook friends for netflix recs and I’m a little sad no one mentioned this.. A good friend of mine rec’d Moone Boy, which isn’t on netflix, but it’s available on hulu and I seriously spent all of yesterday marathoning it. It’s FANTASTIC! & really, you can’t go wrong with Chris O’Dowd.

The three albums you listed are all new to me and I’ve currently got Warpaint playing on Spotify. Really enjoying it so far and all the comment love for The National makes me a happy girl.

  14. Yay for Sherlock!!! I hope you love it. πŸ™‚ And My Last Kiss looks really good!

  15. Danielle Nguyen says:

Oh god, Sherlock is so good. You won’t regret it.

I recently added G.B.F. to my to-watch list. And House of Cards to my Netflix queue. I’ve been listening to Birdy’s self-titled album and Kodaline’s In a Perfect World. And I think the latest book I added to my to-read list was Broken Hearts, Fences, and Other Things to Mend by Katie Finn.

Fun feature! I’m always looking for new recommendations.

  16. OHHHH, you’ve succumbed to Sherlock. It’s such a great show and while I’m usually meh about adaptions, I love Sherlock. It really captures the feeling of the original stories and it brings it to modern day without seeming cliche. It’s a really easy to catch up on, too since each episode is 1.5 hours long and there’s only three seasons out so far (the third season is airing now on PBS Masterpiece/BBC America, I believe, right after Downton Abbey).

Also, have you watched Orange is the New Black? It’s a great show. I’m personally watching The Mindy Project as well as some other shows.

Brooklyn Girls sounds like an interesting book and I think I have it in my Netgalley queue, too, LOL. I should check on Netgalley a little more than I do.

Also, you should check out Mree’s music. It’s really calming and soothing. πŸ™‚

  17. Yay, a new feature! I always love the ideas you come up with when it comes to change on your blog. I think I’m going to really enjoy this one.
Brooklyn Girls sounds amazing! The series aspect of the book makes it seem a little like a tv drama but in book format – I’m definitely interested in this one.
Ah, Netflix – how you ruined and made my life in so many ways haha!

  18. SHERLOCK. Yes, it’s my favorite show–I hope you enjoy it πŸ™‚ I’m a new fan, just started watching it about 4 months ago and have watched all the eps multiple times. It’s an addicting show and just so well done.

I’m eager to read My Last Kiss. I like afterlife books too and have a good feel for this one. I hope it’s good.

  19. I wish I had a modicum of your creativeness! Great new feature!

  20. Dahlia Adler says:

Love this feature! And hope you love THE SUMMER I WASN’T ME as much as I did!

  21. Brooklyn Girls is so much fun! I hope you enjoy it!

I’ve been listening to the new Warpaint this week too. Love is to Die is also one of my faves! πŸ™‚

  22. You (or I guess, really Gillian) sold me on The Summer I Wasn’t Me too. Added that one to my TBR!

Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction

  23. SHERLOCK! I hope you love it. It is easily one of my favourite shows. And I am so eager to see The Dallas Buyer’s Club. It sounds like it’s going to be an emotional one. I have the Summer I wasn’t Me on the pile for YA Pride this year. I hadn’t seen my reviews yet so I’m happy to hear you’ve had good feedback

  24. Brooklyn Girls sounds great! Totally agree on the whole that’s what NA should be. AND Sherlock is amazing. I didn’t think I’d love it as much as I did but holy man. Excellent stories, acting, and production value. Just amazing. Enjoy!

  25. I just got started in Sherlock and it’s so good! I love the subtle humor and it’s just amazing how clever he is. I mean, seeing someone for the first time for a few seconds and already knowing half of his personal life is impressive. How awesome if you’re able to do things like that. Plus, these two actors play great together.

  26. I really like this new feature! I just added Suspicion by Alexandra Monir to my TBR (sounds like everything I love) and Once Upon A Time & The Blacklist to my to-watch list. I’m always behind on tv shows even though I love to watch tv. Thank goodness for Netflix and DVR! Sherlock is lurking on my list too for the same reasons you have.

Brooklyn Girls sounds pretty fun, I haven’t read much NA but I would read this!

  27. oh my. i think town of saints may be my new favorite band… thank you for this!

  28. Tonight You’re Mine was a really good movie. I only wish I could find the soundtrack somewhere! Oh, and it has the actress who played Tonks in HP as the female lead.

  29. Cool new feature! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Brooklyn Girls! It sounds exactly like what I want in NA novels! Hopefully it’s good. πŸ™‚ Do you watch Once Upon a Time? If not, you should. I just started it a little while ago and holy crap it’s amazing. First two seasons are on Netflix (maybe 3, I can’t remember).

  30. After reading this post, I had to add The Summer I wasn’t Me and Brooklyn Girls to my TBR list.

  31. This is a great idea for a post!
I recently added Tigerman by Nick Harkaway. I loved his book Angelmaker but July is a long time to wait for his newest book!

  32. I’m super excited for My Last Kiss! Can’t wait to see what you think. I got The Summer I Wasn’t Me recently and plan on reading it soon. The few early things I’ve heard about it have all been really amazing!
Ahh Sherlock is amazing! And it’s really easy to get through since they’re so few episodes, but since they’re an hour and a half long each, they feel like a nice indulgent break in the day(or they do for me, anyway).
I’ve put a TON of TV shows on my must-watch list but right now I’m watching Buffy for the first time! It’s seven seasons long and I’m on season 4, so it’s a bit too early to think about what I’m going to watch after that. I haven’t added a whole lot of new music lately but have definitely been looking!

  33. Ummm I love this feature!!! I added Sherlock to my Netflix a few months ago and still haven’t caught up but Amy says I MUST watch it ASAP so maybe we can watch together!! I just have so many shows! EEP! Also I am going to have to check out these artists! I haven’t really heard of most of them!

I just started reading Fangirl and I am enjoying it so far! Also starting a read along with B and Ame of Vicious by Schwab soon πŸ™‚

  34. Yes, yes, yes. I really want to see Dallas Buyers Club, but I don’t go to the movies often, so there’s a pretty good chance you will see it before me. Let me know how it is!

  35. A moment please.

I’m not a fangirl but for sherlock, I am a TRUE FANGIRL!

  36. Great new feature! I definitely enjoyed seeing it and look forward to what new things will be added to your queue in the future!

  37. I wasn’t really into Sherlock at first because he’s kind of a jerk (Think Sheldon with a British accent), but I kind of fell in love with it. I hope you love it

And this list has made me curious because I haven’t heard of a lot f these things, so if you don’t mind, I am off to abuse (I mean… peruse) Google! πŸ˜€

  38. You should definitely read BROOKLYN GIRLS! I love, love, love that book. Just seeing it on your list makes me want to read it all over again! It’s just so fun and so wonderful to read about a place I live/work/play in. Hope you enjoy it!

  39. I’ve been meaning to check out Brooklyn girls!! Also SHERLOCK. It’s SO good and I love it!!! Only 3 eps each for the seasons!

  40. I always love your music recommendation! Sadly I cant get Little Daylight on Spotify but I’ve added Town of Saints.
