Top Ten Books I’ve Read So Far This Year

Top Ten Tuesday, as  always, is hosted at my other blog — The Broke & the Bookish

This week’s topic: Top Ten Books I’ve Read So Far This Year

My reading year started out a bit rocky but then I hit this AMAZING stride and was picking all the right books for me! SO YAY FOR THAT. I’m trying to make sacrifices to the book gods to please not let me get in another slump like the one I was in in the beginning of the year.

My list is a mix of old and new, fun and emotional but they all really stood out to me this year!! I decided to include a blurb of sorts from my review and I’ll link to the books below if you want to further check out my review!

About Jamie

Jamie is a 28 year old married lady who is in denial that she's actually that old. When she's not reading you can find her doing Pilates followed by eating gelato, listening to music with oversized headphones and teaching her niece how to be as awesome as she is.

  1. So glad to see you’ve included The Sea of Tranquility on your list! It’s one of the few angsty books that I absolutely love; the writing is so beautiful and Josh makes me melt. Landline and Since You’ve Been Gone are two books I picked up at BEA that I haven’t read yet; looking forward to them!

    • YES I don’t always love angsty novels but this one is just PERFECT. And omg I hope you love Landline (seriously made me think about marriage A LOT as a newlywed…is 2 years a newlywed still??) and Since You’ve Been Gone made me SO HAPPY.

  2. OMG! Seriously, my TBR list tripled because of you!! I love you, Jamie! Thanks for giving amazing recommendations. I’m a huge huge fan! :))

    • Aw YAY! I’m so happy you found some books to read. (Sorry about the TBR explosion haha but not sorry). And thank you for your kind words! <3

  3. Yay for To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before :) I see it’s getting a bit of love this week on TTT. I’m looking forward to reading Landline xD Great list, love the way you arranged your list this week :)

    My TTT

    • To All The Boys was just wonderful. I love sister stories so it really hit a good note for me! I’m glad it’s getting lots of love!

      And thank you!

  4. Love this list, love your graphics, love it all. I’ve only read 4 of these, but the rest are absolute on my TBR and you totally have me wanting to read them sooner rather than later. Basically: FAB. FABFABFAB.

  5. Ugh, isn’t HOW TO LOVE so freaking good (and pretty)?! I’m seeing SINCE YOU’VE BEEN GONE and TO ALL THE BOYS I’VE LOVED BEFORE everywhere, and I especially want to read the latter. I really need to get my hands on LANDLINE because, you know, RAINBOW ROWELL. I also need to read LIFE BY COMMITTEE and THE SEA OF TRANQUILITY. Great list!

Rachel @ Beauty and the Bookshelf

  6. Saving Francesca made my list as well – I just loved that book. I am desperate to read Sea of Tranquility ASAP. It looks so good – I actually think it’s your review that made me want to read it in the first place!

  7. So many on here that I want to and am about to read!! Like Landline, Since You’ve Been Gone, and Far From You. I’m reading Falling Into Place now… and liking it so far :) I also loved To All the Boys. Such a cute, fun book!!

    • Ooh you have some of my favorites (2014) and some past ones (Fangirl, The Book Thief, Amy & Roger, Through The Ever Night)!! Through The Ever Night is one of my fave sequels EVER. Into The Still Blue was really good too!

  9. I must must must read Landline. I’ve loved everything else of Rainbow Rowell’s that I’ve read, I have no reason to think this would be any different.

    • It was incredibly thought-provoking and just AHH I don’t even have words for how much I love this one. I feel like she’s always able to do something different in each one of her books and always makes me feel SO MUCH!

  10. I love your list! To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is on my kindle, but I haven’t had a chance to read it. Two of these books, The Sea of Tranquility and Since You’ve Been Gone, are on my wishlist. OH! And so is Open Road Summer. I love contemporary novels, so I’m excited to read most all of these on your list. :)

Holly @ Part of that World

  11. You’ve got some good YA titles on the list, books that I really want to read.

  12. I want to read SO many of these books. I’m especially looking forward to Since You’ve Been Gone, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and How To Love. Great list Jamie!

  13. We have a lot of over lap :) & I feel like the only reason that are list aren’t completely the same is because I read some of those books last year or haven’t read the other yet!

Aly @ My Heart Hearts BooksMy TTT

    • We are like book soulmates, Aly <33 Again, it was so great meeting you! Wish we would have had more time to chat!! Also, you need to read I’ll Give You The Sun. Reading it now and <333

  14. I can’t wait to read Falling into Place and The Sea of Tranquility. I have The Sea, and am anxiously awaiting Falling into Place. After hearing that you stayed up late reading it, I can imagine it will be a memorable story! I enjoyed this list–so many wonderful reads so far in 2014! :)

    • It was just so DIFFERENT. And like at first I was like…”Okay this is good” and then suddenly it had its claws in me and I was like “CANNOT STOP. CANNOT STOP.” I literally couldn’t have imagined going to bed not finishing.

  15. Love the picks! Looking forward to read them all very soon :)

  16. Hurray for Sea of Tranquility and How to Love! I hope I’ll get my copy of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before on Friday so I’ll know what the hype is all about. :)

    Ella @ The Filipina Booknote

  17. Thanks for a GREAT post, Jamie! I can’t wait to read every single one of these! Also, lovely layout of your post. :)

  18. Also Loved To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and need to read more from your list.

  19. Great list that I share with the following additions:
Remnants: Season of Wonder by Lisa Tawn Bergren
    The Mind’s Eye by K. C. Finn

I appreciate the time you take to share!!!

  20. Great list! To All the Boys…is my favourite so far this year too. And I loved Open Road Summer. :)

  21. I have not read any of these but really want to read about 6 of them.

  22. Ooh, great list! Lots of these are on my TBR list but I’ve yet to read any of them – definitely will get a move on now!

  23. Great list!! I picked up a copy of Landline at BEA last week and can’t wait to read it. Several of the other books that you have listed are on my TBR list as well. I’m happy to see that you enjoyed all of them.

    Here is my TTT: http://jacquesbooknook.blogspot.com/2014/06/top-ten-tuesday-top-10-books-ive-read.html

  24. I’ve actually read 2 1/2 of these!!!! :P

  25. I just read Since You’ve Been Gone at the beach and I thought it was really cute! I also really liked Open Road Summer- I am such a sucker for road trip/romance books! The Sea of Tranquility is one of those books that gutted me wide open but I absolutely adored. I also remember enjoying How to Love. I’m currently listening to Landline now and I’m really liking it! Great list Jamie!

    • I love the road trip books toooo. You’ve read Amy & Roger right?? And yes…GUTTED. Perfect word for Sea of Tranquility. I NEED more books from her.

Let me know what you think when you finish Landline! Very curious how it is with audio!!

  26. Halfway trough LANDLINE and would have definitely included it if I had read it 48 hours prior! :)

  27. I love your list and the graphics! :D Hurray for The Sea of Tranquility! I got an intense book hangover there, and I’m still going crazy over it now even if it has been quite a few weeks already. :))

    My TTT

    • Thank you, Pauline! AND I KNOW. I seriously didn’t read for a few days after Sea of Tranquility. It was the book that got me out of a HUGE reading slump of MEH books and it was just perfection and deserved the proper time to settle in my brain forever!

  28. I have A LOT of these on my TBR list, and a few on my TTT as well. I absolutely loved To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before -yeah for the sequel – and Since You’ve Been Gone! Definitely going to have to read more of those authors :)

    • The wait until the sequel might KILL ME. And oh my gosh…you must read more Morgan Matson. All her books are 5 stars for me so far. Amy & Roger is great and Second Chance Summer..oh man..Will made me stop reading it for a few minutes because I was sobbing so hard.

  29. Awesome list! I must read them all! Many of these are on my TBR list but must check out the others I’m not familiar with shortly!

  30. I’m anxiously awaiting Landline–I adored Eleanor & Park, really liked Fangirl, and I’m hoping that Landline is great, too!

  31. If I lie is the only one not on my TBR lost, I just redeemed that. Thank you!

  32. How to Love made my list too :)

  33. Great list! The only one I’ve read is How to Love which I absolutely adored but I have Falling Into Place and Since You’ve Been Gone waiting, hopefully I’ll get to both of them soon :)

    • I hope you do!! You really need to meet Frank from Since You’ve Been Gone. SWOON. And Falling Into Place seriously destroyed me.

  34. Yay for Jenny Han! I’ve been promoting this book like it’s my job. And I’m so excited to read Falling into Place after seeing you loved it :)

  35. Great list! I also loved To All The Boys I Loved Before ! I had high hopes for it and it definitely met my expectations! Also, there were a ton of books on your list I’ve been dying to get my hands on like Since You’ve Been Gone, Landline, Falling Into Place by Amy Zhang, and How To Love! Now I know that I’ve got to get my hands on these books even more!

    • YES. Like I thought To All The Boys would be good but omg it was just GREAT!! And i can’t wait until you read all these books!!

  36. I see you there, FAR FROM YOU.

  37. The only book I’ve read is To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before but it didn’t stand out to me.
Great list though, I need to read some of these.

  38. We share only three top ten books but I’m SURE Falling into Place would’ve been there if I was finished with it. I’m about 60% done with and man, it’s so beautiful I could cry. <3

Since You've Been Gone is like THE contemporary of 2014 and then there's Frank FREAKIN' Porter. Ha ha.

Life by Committee creeped up on me and it's such a messy book and I love messy books and I need Star's book now.

Open Road Summer is such a great road trip read, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I really want to fall in love with To All the Boys I've Ever Loved, Far From You, and Landline.

    • YES I AM SO HAPPY YOU ARE LOVING FALLING INTO PLACE!! YOU HAVE NO IDEA.

Also, I feel like we are loving the same books this year. Please alert me to any and all potential favorite books from here on out!! :P

  39. I have read none of these! I want to read Falling into Place, Far From You, and Since You’ve Been Gone though. :D

    Here’s Mine @ Pinkindle

  40. Sadly, I haven’t read any of these books. No, not even John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars. I’m kinda behind the times with “what’s new” in books, which I *really* need to work on. BUT I did receive a copy of Since You’ve Been Gone from a giveaway at Candace’s Book Blog, and I know I’ll love it. I do want to check out Far From You and Life By Committee. I think I (may) have requested a few of your top ten books from NetGalley, so here’s to hoping!

    • It’s so hard to keep up with the new books!! I hope you enjoy Since You’ve Been Gone! I would have that be the first from my list you read this summer! :)

  41. I read and loved most of these this year as well! To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before… I squealed so much as well <3 In the middle of Starbucks, no less! I really want to read the Sea of Tranquility; it's been on a lot of lists today.

    • YES squealing is like a natural reaction to that book I think!! Reading in public can be so awkward sometimes. I hope you get to Sea of Tranquility soon!!

  42. I haven’t read all of the books on your list, but the ones I have read are incredible! I’m so excited to finally read Life By Committee (copy just came in from the library) and a few others!

    Great list!!

  43. I want Landline now! I adore Rainbow and can’t wait to get my hands on it. Since You’ve Been Gone and How to Love are both fantastic!

  44. Falling into Place and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before on my TBR!

  45. I’m really intrigued by Falling into Place and need to read it. ASAP!

Also, anytime you feel like sharing your secrets of setting up your posts, I am all ears. :)

    • I use Picmonkey!! That’s the secret. I’ve just played around with it A LOT. Like for years. My earlier stuff is god awful and ugly hahah

  46. I read your review of If I Lie and then decided to grab a copy. I finished it in just two days. I cried when I finished it. It is so touching! Thank you for the review. I’m definitely grabbing a copy of each book you mention in this list :)

    • THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY! Thank you for telling me that, Dara!! <33 I’m so happy you loved it too! I SOBBED. Let me know what you think of the others when you get to them (even if you don’t like them!!)

  47. Love all the quotes you put in the boxes from your reviews. Such pretty writing. You should totally get to work on that novel. :) I need to read a lot of these still, but I did love LBC. I thought it was so real and so good and I just was completely wrapped up in the story.

    • Thank you, Rebecca!! I kind of thought it would be nice to do a blurb and I am pleased with how it turned out! AND THANK YOU. I feel like NOT a writer at ALL. I want to write this story so bad but I feel like my writing is like a 5th grader lol. SO I FEEL BETTER.

  48. I will be reading Falling into place soon. I snatched a copy from Edelweiss. Open road summer has been on my radar after seeing a lot of positive feedback from some trusted bloggers. I’m also interested in How to love. Great recommendations, I’m going to check them out :)

  49. Thanks for the recommendations! Added a couple to my TBR list, you enabler you!

  50. Wow, all these books are on my TBR list, apart from If I Lie, which I haven’t heard of until now! I’m actually reading Since You’ve Been Gone at the moment and am really loving it – it’s definitely in my top books read this year! I think out of all the books on there, I’m most looking forward to reading To All The Boys, Open Road Summer and Far From You!

  51. SOOOO many amazing books I still need to read…I’ve only gotten to TWO on your list! Looks like I need to pick up the pace! Great list…thanks for sharing!!
