Where Things Come Back by John Corey Whaley: I’ve had this since right around the time it came out. It sounds like such a ME book and very beautiful and literary and I really want to get to this one finally!!

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater: It’s embarrassing how long this has been on my shelf. Everyone seems to love this series and I do love Maggie’s writing so IT’S TIME.

The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri: This is another one I’ve had on my shelves for the longest time. It’s an adult book (I used to read solely adult books). I love reading books set in different countries and within different cultures so I’m excited!

Salt & Storm by Kendall Kulper: HISTORICAL FICTION + MAGIC. This was one I was SUPER excited to bring home from BEA.

The Jewel by Amy Ewing: Look at that pretty cover!! This one sounds fascinating and I’m excited to see what this world is all about!

Dissonance by Erica O’Rourke: This sounds like the most awesome ever. All these parallel lives!! VERY COOL.

Wildlife by Fiona Wood: This was another one I was SO excited to bring home from BEA. AUSSIE YA!

Exquisite Captive by Heather Demetrios: I was already excited for this but I got to see Heather on a worldbuilding panel and all the things she had to say made me EVEN MORE excited for this. JINNIS. INSPIRED BY ARABIAN NIGHTS. I should have started this the day it came in the mail really.

Glory O’Brien’s History of the Future by A.S. King: God, A.S. King is one of the brilliant writers out there! If people say YA is not literary, I will happily fork over money to give them an A.S. King novel. This one sounds fascinating — a girl who can see the past and the future and tries to save the world when the future she sees is awful.

Rooms by Lauren Oliver: Very very excited for Lauren Oliver’s first published adult novel!! And there’s ghosts.

AND OMG OBVIOUSLY ISLA AND THE HAPPILY EVER AFTER IS ON THE TIPPY TOP OF MY LIST!!

So tell me…what books are on your priority list for this summer?? Have you read any of these books I have on my list? Which one should I read first??

About Jamie

Jamie is a 28 year old married lady who is in denial that she's actually that old. When she's not reading you can find her doing Pilates followed by eating gelato, listening to music with oversized headphones and teaching her niece how to be as awesome as she is.

  1. great list! the Namesake is beautiful I definitely think its time to give it a try!

  2. Oh, so jealous you have Exquisite Captive and Salt & Storm. Those two are priorities when they come out! :)

  3. Great list of books to read this summer! I really should check out Jhumpa Lahiri’s books sometime, been hearing fantastic things about her stuff :)

    Happy reading! My TTT

  4. Shiver is a definite must-read. The Namesake has been on my TBR list for a while, too. I saw the movie on TV a couple summers ago and added the book on Goodreads. Then, when I had to read Interpreter of Maladies for a contemporary fiction class in school, I found that I really loved Jhumpa Lahiri’s writing. I’ll probably pick it up when I need a little break from YA. :)

    • I didn’t even realize it was a movie! HUH! Interpreter of Maladies has been on my radar but I don’t own that one. Happy to hear you enjoyed it!!

  5. Where Things Come Back is BEAUTIFUL! One of my favorite reads of the last couple of years, for sure! And those Summer 2014 books…I haven’t even heard of them! But now I have more to add to my list! ;-)

    Jennifer @ A Librarian’s Library–My TTT!

    • OH YAY. I’m so happy to hear this!! And I’m glad you were able to find out about some new reads! *apologizes to your wallet and bookshelves*

  6. You haven’t read the Wolves of Mercy Falls series yet?! It’s sooo good! I’m reading SINNER now and it’s good to be (kind of ) back. Also, I’m totally jealous of SALT AND STORM. It sounds so good!

Rachel @ Beauty and the Bookshelf

  7. Oh man, I want that A.S King novel so hard. SERIOUSLY. I love how pretty this looks – you did a great job on your list!

  8. Love the pic(k)s, but also love the adorable skirts/dresses lady!!!!

  9. I love how you photographed your books! I am having a “skirt phase” and I have been wearing them a lot that’s why I really liked your post, and of course your list too. I noticed one thing too, all of them have pretty covers :)

    Ella @ The Filipina Booknote

    • Thanks Ella! I’ve gotten in this habit of doing it when the TTT seasonal TBR lists come around. All of the ones I was wearing were actually dresses! I need some new skirts now that I think of it!!

And YES they do all have pretty covers! That was NOT planned. YAY PRETTY COVERS.

  10. Great list Jamie. I really want to read something by Maggie Stiefvater. I can’t believe that I am yet to read a book by her! I’m also looking forward to reading The Jewel. I hope you enjoy your summer reads! :-)

  11. Oooh lala Jamie! SO MANY AWESOME BOOKS. yes yes yes to Shiver and Where Things Come Back! Those are definitely old favorites of mine. As for new reads, I’m SO SO SO EXCITED for Dissonance and The Jewel! Happy reading and good luck, Jamie!

  12. Where Things Come Back and Shiver are both amazing books! They deserve to be read soon. I can’t believe you haven’t read them yet because they seem like such Jamie books! Also, My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick should be added to your list. This book is the perfect story to set off your summer. A favourite of mine for sure! (Oh, and I absolutely CANNOT wait until Isla comes out!!! Stephanie Perkins rocks my socks off!)

    • Okay I will prioritize them higher if they are Jamie books!! I TRUST YOU. Oooh yes I really DO need to read MLND…that def seems like a Jamie book!! Thanks for your help in prioritizing!! :)

  13. Salt and Stone looks so cool! Shiver and the Namesake are good, I hope you’ll like them :)

  14. Shiver is an amazing book, I hope you’ll like it. And I really want to red The Jewel and Rooms (and Isla, of course). Great list! :)
    Here’s my TTT

  15. Jamie you have so many brilliant books to look forward to this Summer! I have had Where Things Come Back for the longest time too, but seeing as everyone I know has loved it, I hope that we both do too! I hope you enjoy all your reads! :)

  16. Yeah, Where Things Come Back is totally a Jamie book. It’s deep and literary and beautifully written with well-drawn characters. Like, it’s so good.

ALSO! SHIVER! I really enjoyed that one. The writing is very lovely.

Salt & Storm made my list too. It just seems like an April sort of book.

  17. Jewel, ISLA, and Exquisite Captive are all on my list too

  18. I hope you love Shiver! I’m so excited to read Sinner, I’m going to try and re-read the trilogy first if I get the chance. Not sure I’ll have the time though! And I absolutely can’t wait for Isla!

  19. I enjoyed the Shiver trilogy and I’m looking forward to reading Sinner.

  20. Isla made my list, too. I’m also hoping to read Rooms. I haven’t heard of your other books – but I’m going to have to check them out! Love your post.

    My TTT List

  21. Where Things Come Back! What up! Love that book & that boy!

  22. I’ve been wanting to read The Jewel strictly for the cover. It’s stunning! Rooms and History of the Future sound really intriguing. I’ll definitely have to give them a try!

  23. Yes, SHIVER is one of my long overdues as well. I listed the trilogy in my TTT! I am hoping to read a few of those upcoming titles very soon, though they didn’t make the list (ROOMS in particular is ready to go on my ereader).

  24. I cannot even with the cuteness of your pictures!

You will fall head over heels for WHERE THINGS COME BACK THOUGH and I can’t wait to read your thoughts!

  25. Rooms is one of the books I wanted to pick up at BEA, but unfortunately it didn’t work out. My flight was delayed and that was one of the early signings on Thursday and I missed it. I will definitely get a copy when it is released. I really enjoyed her Delirium series and Panic.

    Here is my TTT: http://jacquesbooknook.blogspot.com/2014/06/top-ten-tuesday-top-ten-books-on-my.html

  26. Love the pretty prints of your dresses (at least, I’m assuming they’re dresses). I’m so glad it’s summer!

Shiver is really good. Although it’s very temperature-based, so reading it in summer will be an interesting experience :D Salt & Storm looks SO GOOD, I’m keeping my fingers crossed and hope they’ll accept my ARC request.

    Happy summer reading! :D

  27. Good way to describe ‘The Jewel.’ It does indeed sound fascinating. Hope it lives up to that. Enjoy your reads, Jamie.

  28. I loved the first two books in the Shiver trilogy, but the last one is very disappointing! She leaves it at SUCH an open ending and that’s not something I’m happy I spent my money on :/

  29. I haven’t read Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater yet either, but I just bought the Raven Boys last weekend :)

  30. I’ve heard a lot of great things about the Jewel! Those reproductive dystopians get me every time. I hope you enjoy it!

  31. There are a few on here that I haven’t heard of, but I’m interested in checking them out and hearing more about them! I definitely want to read Shiver! And oh my gosh, I cannot WAIT to get my hands on Isla! I love how creative your list is with the pictures!

  32. The Namesake is So, So GOOD! So glad to see it made your list! Enjoy. :)

  33. I should really read Where Things Come Back, too. I bought a copy last summer (I think) but I haven’t read it. :(

Shiver will be a fun book to read in the summer. I really like reading books set during winter during the summer. Or vice versa. It’s fun.

    Happy summer reading :)

  34. Haha, I’m SOOO excited for Isla and the Happily Ever After! I think I’ve said it so much that it should just be assumed that yes I will be at that bookstore first thing in the morning when that book gets released. I WILL.

  35. I picked up The Jewel at BEA and I’m ridiculously excited to read it. I wanted a copy of Rooms, but that just didn’t happen. I hope you enjoy all your reads! :)

    My TTT.

  36. I’ll be interested to see what you think of Dissonance. Parallel life stories have become quite popular in YA! Also Wildlife looks like a great read for summer, seems to have gotten glowing reviews too. Enjoy :)

  37. So excited for Salt & Storm and The Jewel. Looking forward to your thoughts on Rooms!

  38. The Namesake is one of my favorites! So excited for Lauren’s ROOMS! Also excited to start reading A.S. King this summer!

  39. Shiver is my favorite book of The Wolves of Mercy Falls series (and I really think it could just be a standalone)! I hope you enjoy immersing yourself in Maggie’s beautiful writing again. This happens to be the book that put her on my radar, so I’d have to say that I’m really excited you’re reading it!

  40. Thanks for telling me about History of the Future! Going to the top of my priority list to read this summer :)

  41. So jealous that you have Exquisite Captive! I would definitely read either that or Shiver. Both look and sound amazing.

  42. I have read Shiver and it was ok. I always seem to have a hard time with Maggie’s books though so don’t take my word for it. Read it for yourself. :)

  43. I adore your cover of Where Things Come Back! Shiver has also been on my shelves for years, it’s shameful, actually. But I recently read The Raven Boys & adored it, so I want to pick Shiver up soon.

Jhumpa Lahiri is an author that I’ve been meaning to check out for ages, and I will do it once I manage to get my hands on the beautiful Houghton Mifflin Harcourt 2-works edition of The Namesake & Interpreter of Maladies. I’d love to know your thoughts on this book!

  44. Lauren Oliver has an adult novel?! Thanks for this fantastic news! Going to locate a copy now….
