What The Winner’s Crime by Marie Rutkoski is about:
The Winner’s Crime is the second book in The Winner’s Curse series and all I will say is that we see how that heartstopping ending in book 1 plays out! (My review of The Winner’s Curse)
Why You Should Be Saving The Date for The Winner’s Crime:
Okay so I’ve never done a Save the Date for a book 2 before but just consider this my PSA to all of you who have NOT picked up what is one of my newest favorite series. The Winner’s Curse absolutely blew me away but The Winner’s Crime solidified the fave status. At this point, all I can think about is 1) how amazing book 2 was and 2) HOW MUCH I NEED BOOK 3.
So if you have not read The Winner’s Curse, this is now your friendly reminder that you should start it so you can jump on this bandwagon in time for The Winner’s Crime to come out on March 3rd 2015. YOU WANT ON THIS WAGON.
So this is why you should save the date for this book/pick up The Winner’s Curse if you haven’t already:
1. Marie Rutkoski is a talented writer: Seriously, the prose in this series is just wonderful and the amount of emotions and damage she can inflict upon you with the words that make up this story is kind of amazing.
2. The complicated relationship between Kestral and Arin is great in The Winner’s Curse and is even more intense in The Winner’s Crime: No seriously. MY HEART. The tension. Knowing each person’s side. AHHH. I also loved getting to know them more individually.
3. Kestral is one of my favorite female characters right now: She’s smart, kind, makes mistakes, learns from mistakes, thinks on her feet and is just perfectly a flawed, REAL human it hurts sometimes.
4. Plot-wise The Winner’s Crime soared: I loved everything about The Winner’s Curse plot-wise and I couldn’t wait to see where Marie was going to take it. Pleased to say, I love where Marie took the characters and all the new developments and things we learn about in The Winner’s Crime. TWISTY AND SHOCKING TOO. I don’t even KNOW what is going to happen in book 3. But I am imagining shattered hearts and broken dreams and my tears flowing like a river. But also good things?
5. MY HEART. OW OW OW. That’s all I’m going to say about how this book left me feeling. Aside from oozing with love for it.
Who Should Save The Date: people who loved The Winner’s Curse, people who haven’t started the series but are immediately going to go add this book to their TBR or start it so they can be ready for The Winner’s Crime (no but seriously, if you haven’t read this series yet and want a fantasy that is more of a realistic tone…this is a good one).
A Sneak Peek: No sneak peek this time around since it’s a book 2 and I don’t want to give ANYTHING away.
Be on the lookout for my FULL review closer to the release date where I will flesh out my thoughts a little more!
Have you read this one? Are you excited for it?? Putting it on your TBR list?

If I could read any ARC right now it would be this one! I loved how smart Kestral was in the first book; that girl is a master tactician. Loved how strong and smart Arin was. They’re the perfect match!
Jamie says
They really are! I can’t wait for you to read this one!
Pili says
I have it preordered already and March 3rd won’t arrive soon enough for me! Where’s a TARDIS when one needs it??
Jamie says
If there was ever a time for a TARDIS…!!
Jamie says
Yes yes yes! I would have given Winner’s Curse six stars on Goodreads if it were possible. And I just finished Winner’s Crime (thanks to Edelweiss) last week. It was so good I devoured it in all available time (therefore in one day). This series is one of my new favorites!
Jamie says
YES Crime just absolutely solidified fave series status for me. GAH what is she going to do to us in book 3???
Valeria @ A Touch of Book Madness says
I’m a quite excited for this series actually! I’ve read sooo many good reviews that I’m almost pretty convinced this is a good one. So I’ll definitely pick it up!
Jamie says
YES DO ITTTTT. You will love it (I hope. Oh do I hope!)
Trina says
Already saving the date for this one!! I LOVED The Winner’s Curse, that swoon really got me.
Jamie says
SO MUCH SWOON. I can’t wait for you to read it, girl!!
Morgan @ Gone with the Words says
MORE complicated relationship?! Ohhhh no. I absolutely LOVED The Winner’s Curse and I’m counting down the days til I can read The Winner’s Crime! I’ve preordered it and everything. Excellent reasons btw; I love Marie’s writing too and that it feels like historical fiction, just set in a made up world. I was really impressed with Book 1 and I looooove series that only improve with each book! Yay!
Jamie says
OH YES. The plot thickens there with their relationship. OH MAN. And YES it totally DOES feel like historical fiction in a way. I think it’s such a good fantasy series for people who are iffy on fantasy and maybe don’t so much like the magic-y things they associate fantasy with.
Carla says
I think you know how I feel about this whole situation.
Jamie says
WE ARE EVEN!! 😛

I love this series so much! I can’t wait for the third book. Here’s my review for A Winner’s Crime: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1079626603 Highly recommend this series to everyone!
Alexa S. says
Not going to lie – I was not real impressed with The Winner’s Curse. I did like it a little better upon my reread, which was a nice surprise. But The Winner’s Crime? I loved it. I’m so surprised by how much it affected me, in terms of story and this tension between Arin and Kestrel. Rutkoski’s writing was so brilliant, and the way that this story twists and turns is pretty dang crazy. I need book 3 now too!
Brittany @ The Book Addict's Guide says
I started reading this one (about 100 pgs in) and HOLY COW the romance already is so intense. I’m definitely getting a bit more attached to the book! It took me a liiiiittle while with The Winner’s Curse but I am totally invested right now! I cannot wait to see how it ends (and how my heart will break!)
