Top Ten Favorite 2015 Releases I Read This Year!

Top Ten Tuesday, as  always, is hosted at my other blog — The Broke & the Bookish

This week’s topic: Top Ten 2015 Releases

I shared my top new-to-me authors of 2015 and I plan on sharing (as I did last year) my favorite 2015 debuts, top backlist books I read in 2015, 2015 releases that deserved way more attention and more!!

This was SO hard to pick the best 2015 releases I read this year. SO HARD. I read a lot of really excellent books this year but I have to say when I look back and declare favorites these were the automatic ones that were like YEP OF COURSE they can’t NOT be on my list.

Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli: Okay, real talk. I’m cheating a LITTLE…but I technically read this book at the very end of December last year but I could not let that little technicality deny me a chance to keep yelling about this book even more!! If I had to pick only ONE favorite 2015 release it would be this one!  (My review)

Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas: Sarah slayed me with her 4th installment of the Throne of Glass series and this book was INCREDIBLE. My review of Queen of Shadows was ridiculously in depth and feelsy but I had a lot to say because this book was flawless…this series is flawless. Everything I had hoped for and more!!!!!

PS I Still Love You by Jenny Han: This book made me just want to twirl with happiness! What a great conclusion to this charming duet (you MUST read To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before). I loved how Jenny really examined all the intricacies that come with first love and your first REAL dating relationship plus your first heartbreak. I felt everything — from the giddiness of your first real boyfriend to the pressures of sex to that absence a breakup creates. Plus the sister relationships and the friendships are wonderful! Honestly these two books are some of the most perfect coming of age stories ever! Lots of firsts that REALLY hit me in the feels. (My review of PS I Still Love You)
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas: I knew I already loved Sarah’s writing but I was a little nervous when I started this because the fae are not really my thing but HOLY HELL I LOVED THIS ONE and like I should have known it would be Sarah that would make me a liar when I say I’m not into fae. I could NOT put it down and it was soooo sexy which was an added bonus. Cannot wait for the sequel!  (My review of ACOTAR)

All the Rage by Courtney Summers: If there was ever a novel whose title could also be used as a summation for my feels while reading it…it would be ALL THE RAGE. This book will give you ALL THE RAGE toward everything that the main character has to go through.  All the Rage was a fury of raw emotions and touched on a lot of important issues — victim-shaming, slut-shaming, rape and rape culture, etc. — without feeling like “HAI I AM HERE TO TALK ABOUT ISSUES.” It’s bold and unapologetic. (My review of All the Rage)
The Start of You & Me by Emery Lord: I was so happy after LOVING Emery’s debut Open Road Summer that I fell in love with this one just as much if not more. IT IS SO DELIGHTFUL. Full of shippy feels.  And honestly? Emery Lord is just writing some of the best contemporary/realistic teen fiction out there today! (My review of The Start of You & Me)
The Winner’s Crime by Marie Rutkoski: Okay, again, I cheated a little that I read this at the end of last year but I can’t not add it into my best of, okay?  I LOVE THIS SERIES SO MUCH AND AM EAGERLY WAITING THE FINAL BOOK ESPECIALLY AFTER THE AMAZINGNESS MARIE DELIVERED HERE. Check out my review of The Winner’s Curse if you have not picked up this series yet!
I’ll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios: This book was INCREDIBLE, made me sob, hurt my heart and definitely got added to my “new favorites” shelf which is RARE. (My review of I’ll Meet You There)

Extraordinary Means by Robyn Schneider: Oh man this book gutted me and what was really delightful was that I knew NOTHING about it before reading it so I was not at all prepared for it. I wish more people were talking about this one because I could NOT put it down at all!

Just Visiting by Dahlia Adler: I would say this is one of the underdogs on this list and one that should be getting so much more attention so here I am to make sure it’s on your radar! I loved it when I read it but when I wrote my book talk for it I fell EVEN MORE in love. It’s such a great book about friendship, growing pains and that time in your life when you are almost done high school and you are staring YOUR FUTURE and all the choices to be made for it right in the face. It was so great and had a great romance to boot!! It definitely was a late addition that snuck onto this list as I read it in November but SO DESERVED. Just one of those books that was a delight to read and is so honest and real. (My review of Just Visiting by Dahlia Adler)

So tell me…what were some of YOUR top books you read this year??? Please tell me so I can prioritize for next year! And stay tuned for more of my top books of 2015 lists and my end of year survey to come!

About Jamie

Jamie is a 32 year old married lady (with a new baby!!) who is in denial that she's actually that old to be a married lady and a mom. When she's not reading you can find her doing Pilates followed by eating ice cream, belting out Hamilton (loud and offkey) and having adventures with her husband, daughter and rescue dog.

  1. It looks like you’ve enjoyed so many wonderful reads this year. I adored Simon. Definitely one of my favourites of the year. I also really liked Queen of Shadows and The Start Of Me and You. Great list! 🙂

  2. Oh man, I read Winner’s Curse and Winner’s Crime back to back. Should not have done that. I’m still recovering and I read those back in July.

  3. Great selections!! Winner’s Crime and Simon Vs are on my top 10 list as well. I’ve been meaning to start Sarah J Maas’ books for ages, but I have this very real fear that I’ll be so gripped I’ll struggle to go to work and be a functional adult. So, I’ve been saving them for my Christmas holiday.

  4. I JUST added All the Rage to my list. Looks intense, but really good. Am now adding Simon vs to my tbr after seeing it pop up on a lot of lists this year. Yey.

My top ten list is here, if you’re interested:

  5. Aside from The Winner’s Crime, I haven’t read any of the books in your list. I LOVED The Winner’s Crime and I can’t wait for the next one! The other titles all sound really good and I’m definitely going to add them to my TBR list. Happy holidays! 🙂

  6. I really loved Simon. There are so many on here I still need to read so now I am extra pumped for them. Great list!!

  7. Great list! Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda made my list this week, too. 🙂

  8. I loved the Winner’s Curse and Winners Crime. I think I might be the only non Sara J Maas fan out there. Maybe I need to try reading her first book again. Everyone seems to love that series.

  9. I definitely added a few more books to my “need to check these out” list!!! Thanks so much 🙂

  10. Simon vs tops all my lists! It’s just so great! It was my first read of the year and turned into my fave book of ever.

  11. Great list!! I haven’t read any of Sarah Maas’s books yet, but I bough Throne of Glass and plan on starting that series soon. Now that I finished the Vampire Academy series I plan on starting that one.

    My TTT:

  12. I haven’t read any of those books. My favorite of 2015 was Big Little Lies.

  13. Out of all of these books, I have only read P.S. I Still Love You. I REALLY want to read All The Rage!
    Great List!

    My TTT! 😀

  14. I read and loved Simon, ACOTAR, and The Winner’s Crime! I didn’t get to many contemporary YA books this year, although the ones I DID read were excellent (My Heart and Other Black Holes, for instance, and, obviously, Simon. That book was just adorable). Gah, there were so many amazing books that came out this year!!

  15. I recently read To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and P.S. I Still Love You and loved them both so much! Your reviews for both books were so on point with how I felt as well!

  16. P.S. I Still Love You made my list today, too. You’re right–it (and its predecessor) make the perfect coming-of-age story. Han is always great about that kind of thing. Great list! I’ve really wanted to read Just Visiting since you posted your review about it. I love that you promote the underdogs endlessly.

    My TTT!

  17. OOoh nice picks!! Yay for ACOTAR!! Seen a lot of that today!

    Here’s my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

  18. Great list! I haven’t read any of these books yet, but quite a few are going on my wishlist. I really need to give Sarah J. Maas a try. I see her pop-up on lists but I haven’t read anything by her yet.

  19. The Start of Me and You made my list as well… I haven’t read Open Road Summer but I seriously loved this one! It was such a “me” book!

  20. I’ll Meet You There was hands down my favorite book of 2015. I also LOVED Carry On by Rainbow Rowell. I’ve read most of the other books on the list, too (mostly by your recommendation) and liked them a lot. I’ve yet to read anything by Sarah J. Maas, but I keep reading stellar reviews of her book so I should give it a try.

  21. QUEEN OF SHADOWSSSSSSSS. Also YES to P.S. I Still Love You. It wasn’t my favourite out of the two (you can’t beat To All the Boys. Ever.) but P.S. was still adorable and I really liked it.

  22. The Start of Me and You, ACOTAR & Simon made it onto my list as well.

Extraordinary Means ALMOST made it onto my list. It was SO close to getting on my list.

All the Rage & Queen of Shadows made it onto Bekka’s list.

  23. I feel like there were so many good books in 2015 that I loved and really need to read again. I need to re-read The Winner’s series for sure. I added All the Rage to my list, that is one I haven’t read or even heard much about!

  24. So excited to read ACOTAR! Great list.
