10 Books I SUPER Love But Feel Like I Don’t Talk About Enough Or Haven’t In A While

Top Ten Tuesday, as  always, is hosted at my other blog — The Broke & the Bookish

This week’s topic: Top Ten Tuesday Freebie week — I picked 10 books I super love but feel like I haven’t talked about enough/in a while.

I talk about a lot of books. I mean, I’ve been running this site and talking about books consistently for 5 1/2 years and in that time I’ve read and talked about a lot of books. Sometimes they come up in Top Ten Tuesdays or maybe in a Whatcha In The Mood For post (great way for me to bring up books I enjoyed previously) or at random but sometimes I go through books I’ve read a while ago and I’m like YOU KNOW….I haven’t shouted about this book in a while and it’s a damn shame!! It’s easy to get caught up in the new stuff I’m reading so, put on your ear plugs, it’s about to get a little bit loud in here because the I’m going to get a little bit shouty about some books I have loved but don’t talk about enough or at least haven’t talked about lately. LONG OVERDUE YOU GUYS.

Pull up your Goodreads or your pen and paper…..I’ll wait. It’s important to make sure you haven’t overlooked these.

It was soooo hard to pick only 10, let me tell you.

books-i-love

1. The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay: This is one of my all time favorite books and I seriously don’t know why I don’t talk about it more often. I think maybe when I think of it my heart just seizes up and I feel like my words will do no justice to it. I highly recommend this! (My review of The Sea of Tranquility)

2.  Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi: I talk about a lot of series I love but it’s been a while since I talked about how excellent this series really is!! I get so into the next series I’m on but this one is always one of my top series — and like super satisfying conclusion! (My review of the Under the Never Sky series)

3. The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffennegger: I think I don’t talk about this one enough because I read it well before I blogged but OMG ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS. It broke me. I was thinking about it so much  when I read Passenger  by Alexandra Bracken last year (really excellent..review to come) and how that book reminded me how much I loooooove time travel romance.

4. For Darkness Shows The Stars by Diana Peterfreund: This is one of the coolest retellings ever — it’s a sci-fi retelling of Persuasion and the world is amazing and the character’s romance…OH MY HEART. I shouted a lot about this for a good long while back when I read it but MAN IT IS LONG OVER DUE. (Review of For Darkness Shows the Stars)

5.  Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson: OH MY HEART. Peter Pan was one of my favorites and this retelling from the point of view of Tiger Lily is just divine. Another one that I shouted about a lot but just haven’t talked about in a while. (My review of Tiger Lily)

6. Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler: I have soooo many contemporary YA books I love and sometimes ones I super love get overshadowed by my ALL TIME FAVORITE ones that I talk about on the daily. Twenty Boy Summer is one of those that I’m like I need to find time to talk about this one more often! (my review of Twenty Boy Summer)

7.  When You Were Here by Daisy Whitney: This one broke me I’m afraid. I think it hit so close to home and moved me so much that I couldn’t bring it up much. I five starred it (which isn’t something I do a WHOLE lot) but yet I still don’t ever really shout the praises of this novel and it’s shame because it’s wonderful. (My review of When You Were Here)

8.  The Lost Girl by Sangu Mandanna: This book is BEAUTIFUL oh my gosh guys. So underrated too. It’s about a girl whose sole existence is to be an echo — meaning she won’t have her own life but she exists to replace someone after they die (like the family requests this and tries to hide the fact they are echos). It’s AMAZING and I’m so happy to bring it back up!! (My review of The Lost Girl)

9. Rites of Passage by Joy N. Hensley: This one was out in 2014 but I’m just shocked I haven’t kept talking about it because it was such an intense page-turner that had me seeing red for how the main character was treated. BADASS LADY POWER!! (My review of Rites of Passage)

10. Forgive Me Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick: I looooooved this one so much but I think I didn’t talk about it much because I didn’t know HOW to. It’s a unique novel and it’s so hard to come up with specific recs for it so this is my reminder to check this one out especially if you are looking for something unlike anything you’ve read before!! (my review of Forgive Me Leonard Peacock)

So tell me…have you read any of these? Was I shouty enough to encourage you to pick up any of them soon? Let loose in the comments section and feel free to tell what books you LOVE but feel like you don’t talk about enough or haven’t in a while!!

  1. Jamie, sometimes I think we’re book soulmates. THE TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE? a+++++. FOR DARKNESS SHOWS THE STARS? also one of my favorite retellings. and WHEN YOU WERE HERE? i also 5-starred & it broke my heart. What breaks my heart even more…….that book went out of print. I’m not even kidding. 🙁 You cannot find it in any bookstore or even ask the bookseller to get it. It’s such a damn shame because it’s a beautiful but hard book of grieving, y’know? important. I cried from page 1 all the way to the end; I just so felt for Danny, and it makes me SO SAD that people can only find this on Amazon or their library. 🙁

  2. ROAR (UTNS)!!! Nobody talks about him or that series anymore 🙁
Also I LOVE Twenty Boy Summer!!

  3. For Darkness Shows the Stars is one I really want to read this year! Great re-read list, I also have a list of 10-15 books I want to re-read but I don’t know if I will get to many this year.

  4. I absolutely loved The Lost Girl and Rites of Passage. Both wonderful books. I want to check out a lot of the others! Great list Jamie! It’s nice to look back at old favourites!

  5. I have been wanting to read Under The Never Sky and the series for sometime, but I keep putting them off because I always find something else I want to read. The problems of a book nerd! lol

  6. I’ve only read Under the Never Sky (loved it), but a lot of these are on my TBR. I’m especially interested in Rites of Passage though. Great list, and thanks for sharing. 🙂
    Here’s my TTT

  7. I am reeling from the discovery that there is a scifi retelling of Persuasion. How did I not know this? Also, The Time Traveler’s Wife: yes. Literally all the tears. My mum had to hold my hand while I finished it the first time.

  8. The ones I have read – The Sea of Tranquility, The Time Travelers Wife, Forgive Me Leonard Peacock – I have really liked. There are some on my TBR already – Tiger Lily, Rites of Passage. I will have to check out the others though. Great topic and list!!

  9. I’m glad to see a couple books/series I’ve had on my shelf but haven’t picked up yet on here (Tiger Lily, Darkness Shows the Stars, Under the Never Sky) and I worry I may never pick them up but seeing them still getting love does help! My Top Ten

  10. Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock and Rites of Passage are two that are on my TBR wish list and I hope I’ll get my hands on them sooner than later!
For Darkness Shows the Stars is one amazing book indeed!! What a great retelling!

  12. Love this list!! Tiger Lily was on last week’s top ten list of books recently added to my TBR. I have heard such amazing things about it. I need that one in my life. And Sea of Tranquility is one of my favorite books EVER!!! That one made this week’s top ten list, which is top books I wish I could read again for the first time. 🙂

  13. Great list! I really want to read Tiger Lilly and For Darkness Shows the Stars! I own the last one as an e-book so maybe I’ll get to it soon! You definitely made me want to read all of them!

  14. I’m with you on Rites of Passage an The Sea of Tranquility. Both are fabulous and I recommend them to everyone

  15. Agreed, there are some books that I defiantly could talk about again and again. Nice list My TTT

  16. I have The Sea of Tranquility on my list of books I want to read this year, I’ve heard nothing but AMAZING things about it and it’s been on my TBR for the longest time. Yes, yes, yes the Under the Never Sky series is such an amazing series and everyone needs to read it!

  17. The Time Traveller’s Wife has been on my “To Read” list for too damn long. *Dusts off cover*

  18. I’m a TSOT fan too. I read it when it came out in 2012 and just recently I listened to the audio book. Just as good the second time around. I think that’s a book everyone should read. 🙂
    My TTT – http://wp.me/p4uAPW-2jO

  19. Twenty Boy Summer is a great book! It wasn’t what I expected, and I am so glad it wasn’t! I probably would have hated it! Great TOP 10!

    My TTT! 🙂

Weird Girl and What’s His Name.

  20. I LOVE The Time Traveler’s Wife. It is seriously the best time travel book I’ve ever read. It’s so consistent. I was not going to read Passenger because I had a bad experience with Alexandra Bracken’s books, but I may need to read it now that you say it reminds you of The Time Traveler’s Wife. 🙂

  21. I just finished Tiger Lily. Peter Pan is one of my favorite fairy tales, and this retelling was wonderful! So many great lines!

  22. I have read Tiger Lily, The Time Traveler’s Wife, and When You were Here. These are all books I have enjoyed also. I rarely reread books, but I reread The Time Traveler’s Wife and really enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing these books you loved. Some are on my TBR.

  23. YAY! Great choice of topic this week. I always love freebie week as people always do such amazing topics! I have read some of these myself and I have to agree, I absolutely loved them – The Sea of Tranquility, Under the Never Sky and The Time Traveller’s Wife. I really need to reread The Time Traveller’s Wife, I have only read it once and that was years ago now.

Here’s my TTT post if you want to check it out. I picked non-book romances I would love to see get book adaptations.

  24. The Under The Never Sky series is one of my all-time favorites too! I did not yet read the other ones, but I’ll definitely have to give them a try.

  25. Oh! I JUST bought Twenty Boy Summer, I love the author’s other books, so I just might have to read this very soon 🙂

  26. great idea for this week! 🙂 My TTT

  27. Love this list! I’ve added The Time Traveler’s Wife, For Darkness Shows the Stars, Tiger Lily, The Lost Girl (this one sounds sooo interesting!), and rites of passage to my Goodreads. Thank you for the suggestions!

  28. Hell yes about For Darkness Shows the Stars! I absolutely adored that novel, and the companion Across a Star-Swept Sea. Just seeing it mentioned here makes my heart so happy (and it kind of makes me want to reread it)!

  29. OOoh great topic choice!! And picks! I really liked Under the Never Sky, but I can’t say for sure I LOVED it! I can say I REALLY LIKED it though! LOL! But OMG I LOVED Tiger Lily! I went crazy over that book when I got an ARC for the first time at RT 2012!! I was sooooo psyched that year because I got a lot of good ARCs and I still have this one since it had a totally different cover! Which is what almost made me pass it up because I had already seen the final cover on Goodreads!

    Great picks!

    Here’s my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

  30. I haven’t read any of these, but both The Time Traveler’s Wife and Under the Never Sky are on my TBR list. I’ll move them higher up in the pile 🙂

  31. I LOVE For Darkness Shows the Stars too and feel it doesn’t get enough love! Have you read the companion novel Across a Star-Swept Sea? I loved it even more!

  32. The only books I’ve read are Under the Never Sky and Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock. I really enjoyed UtNS, but had a few problems with it. I read it when it was a new release so I didn’t pick up the sequels and I still haven’t! I really need to finish that trilogy. I LOVE Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock so much. I listened to the audiobook of it and it was the most powerful thing I’ve ever listened to. I listened to it in a day! Which is crazy when you start to think about how long audibooks can be. A few of these are really high up on my TBR. I need to get to them sooner rather than later!

  33. I’ve been itching to read For Darkness Shows the Stars, Jamie! I need to get my ass reading that boom like ASAP! And Tiger Lily DESTROYED ME! The storytelling was sooo unique, that I can’t EVEN…!!!

Under the Never Sky was a DNF for me tho.

  34. Some great books, I really need to go back and re-read the Veronica Rossi series, only read the first book with the two on my book shelf waiting to be read!

    Thanks for sharing

  35. Sometimes when I go through my GR shelves I’ll look at a book and be like, WHY is no one talking about this anymore?! So, yeah, I love this topic idea. Under the Never Sky is a great one. I love all three books in that series SO much, but with all the other fantasy mammoths running amok, you don’t hear about it too much. For Darkness Shows the Stars (and its companion) is just underrated in general! I wish more bloggers would read them!

  36. Fantastic list Jamie! I can see many books on here that I’ve really enjoyed. The Lost Girl pleasantly surprised me!

  37. Deb Nance at Readerbuzz says:

The quiet and wonderful books are always my favorites. Thanks for your list!

  38. ohh I love Under the Never Sky so much – I really need to finish this series.

    Thansk for the post.

  39. The Time Traveller’s Wife! I’ve been meaning to revisit that book; it was such a read the first time around, and so heartbreaking at the end *tears* Great list 🙂

  40. I need to reread The Time Traveler’s Wife! It’s one of my favorites, too. 🙂

    Check out my TTT.

  41. Tiger Lily was on my list as well! God, I love that book. However heart breaking it may be.
