New To The Queue {21}

New To the Queue is a sporadic thing around here wherein I give you a tiny glimpse into some of the books, movies, tv shows and bands I’ve recently added to my never ending queue of things to read/watch/listen to. For past posts, go here!

The Memory Book Lara Avery

The Memory Book By Lara Avery (Amazon // Goodreads)

Publication Date – July 5th 2016

Why I Added It To My To-Be-Read list:  It showed up in the mail and totally looks like a me book! I though the author’s first book was okay but I’m really interested in this one!

What It’s About: A teenage girl finds out she has a rare genetic disorder that will take away her memories and her health. So she decides to create a Memory Book to write all the most important things down for her future self  — journal entries, mementos from important things and entries from her family and friends who know her best.

Joshilyn Jackson new book Opposite of Everyone

The Opposite Of Everyone by Joshilyn Jackson ( Goodreads // Amazon)
Publication Date- February 2016

Why I Added It To My To-Be-Read list:
I read Joshilyn Jackson’s Backseat Saints when it first came out and really loved it! I have yet to pick up another book from her since (WHY IDK) but when I saw she had a new one that just came out I was like YES MUST CHECK IT OUT.  She writes really good dysfunctional families/relationships with a great Southern setting.

What It’s About: Paula grew up as a child without a home and on the road with her mother who reinvented their history every year. One wrong truth lands her mom in prison and Paula in foster care. Fifteen years later she’s a tough and successful divorce attorney whose been estranged from her mother this whole time until she received a cryptic letter and then a secret from her mother’s past ends up on her doorstep that catapults her on a journey to find her mother.

Queen of Hearts by Colleen Oakes

Queen of Hearts by Colleen Oakes  (Amazon // Goodreads)
Release Date: May 3, 2016

Why I Added It To My To-Be-Read list:
I got it for review and I would NEVER EVER in my life pass up a (dark) Alice in Wonderland retelling considering it’s one of my favorites.

What It’s About: Basically it’s a villain origins story of the Queen of Hearts that we know in Alice in Wonderland when she is younger and on the verge of becoming the Queen of Hearts.

You Were Here Cori McCarthy

You Were Here by Cori McCarthy ( Amazon // Goodreads)

Release Date: March 2016

Why I Added It To My To-Be-Read list:
I saw someone talking about it on Twitter so I looked it up and I was like YEAH grief of a loved one + an adventure in their honor + a seemingly ragtag group of dysfunctional friends — so a JAMIE book.

What It’s About: A year after her brother’s death Jaycee, with four classmates, break into her brother’s favorite hangout — an abandoned asylum. She finds map with her brother’s explorations and some unfinished dares and she vows to finish them for her no matter how dangerous they are or how much it scares her.

*NOTE: This does not mean these are all available on Netflix streaming — I have streaming AND I get one disc out because Netflix never has the movies I want so adding it to my queue could be my disc queue and not streaming. Felt the need to clarify because I always get people excited thinking something is streaming on Netflix and it’s not!”

The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt SEASON 2

Why I Added It To My Netflix Queue:  Will and I LOVED season 1 so obviously we plan to watch season 2. I want to binge it immediately but we’re so busy leading up to the trip sooo I don’t know if this will happen until after the trip. If you are in need of a funny and quirky show….check this one out!

What It Is About: “Now that Kimmy has caught up with the culture that left her behind when she was held hostage for more than a decade, it’s time for her to take a close look at her personal life — including her relationship with the now-married Dong.”

Secrets of Great British Castles

Secrets of Great British Castles

Why I Added It To My Netflix Queue:  Will was working the first Saturday of this month (lots of overtime before our trip) and so I was browsing Netflix for something to watch before my bowling date with some lady friends. I looked in the “Recently Added” tab which is always so hit or miss and OMG I stopped on this. This reminds me of all the type of stuff my stepdad and I used to watch when the History channel actually had cool stuff on it. I ended up watching an episode of something else because I didn’t have much time (also because I went down a rabbit hole of “secrets of” type documentaries and omg I need a weekend to do nothing but that) and I knew I’d devour this series but OMG cannot wait to find some time to watch. I hadn’t heard of it so I looked it up and found this review of it and was like YEP YES YAS.

What It Is About:Join historian Dan Jones on a journey back in time to the zenith of Britain’s most iconic structures and their infamous inhabitants.

Jack of Hearts

Jack of the Red Hearts

Why I Added It To My Netflix Queue: It was on the “upcoming” section of the Netflix (dvd) website and looked like something I’d like.

What It Is About: “On the lam from the law, teenage runaway Jack finagles her way into a job as caregiver and live-in companion to an autistic 11-year-old girl. But after making a surprising connection with her young charge, Jack’s past catches up with her.”

The Lumineers — Cleopatra

The lumineers cleopatra

Why I Added It To My Musical Rotation:  Have been waiting with bated breath for the new Lumineers album — especially because 1) once I heard Ophelia I was like OMG YAS PLEASE MORE and 2) we bought tickets to see The Lumineers in June with Florence and the Machine, Cold War Kids, Silversun Pickups, Elle King, Violent Femmes and Lucius soooo I was hoping I was going to dig the new album!! I’ve listened to it a couple times since it came out a couple weeks ago and I am soooo digging and foresee it being listened to a lot!

Bear Hands — You’ll Pay For This

bear hands

Why I Added It To My Musical Rotation:  I haven’t gotten to listen to this one yet but I’ve been obsessed with their single 2 AM (and before that their song Giants from their 2014 album!). Hoping I love this one!!

Explosions in the Sky — The Wilderness

new Explosions in the Sky album

Why I Added It To My Musical Rotation: Oh man….Explosions in the Sky. A long time favorite. Largely attached to a much older guy I had a crush on back in college. Their album The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place is one of my all time faves and was the soundtrack to most of my studying in college (my second fave was Ratatat’s self titled album and their album Classics). And then their music became even more special to me with the tv show Friday Night Lights featuring a lot of it. I am ecstatic to listen to it. Thinking I’m going to save it for our long flight to soothe me during it.

If you want to catch what I’m listening to…follow me on Spotify! Let me know who you are so I can follow back and check out youuur music!

YOUR TURN! Tell me one book you added to your TBR list recently! Tell me a movie/tv show you added to your must watch list! Tell me a new band/singer you just added to your musical rotation! Also, have you read/watched/listened to anything on my recently added list? Or did I make you add something to YOUR queue? Tell me, tell me!

About Jamie

Jamie is a 32 year old married lady (with a new baby!!) who is in denial that she's actually that old to be a married lady and a mom. When she's not reading you can find her doing Pilates followed by eating ice cream, belting out Hamilton (loud and offkey) and having adventures with her husband, daughter and rescue dog.

  1. I have read You were here and I LOVED it! It was so well done and the characters were wonderful. I hope you love it too.

  2. I’m so looking forward to season two of The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and I’m excited to see there’s new Explosions in the Sky. Yay!

  3. I need to find some time to binge watch Kimmy Season 2 – I also loved the first season (although my husband really really did not), and I can’t wait to reconvene with the hilarious cast of characters! Maybe this weekend, if the sun decides to disappear for a bit 🙂

  4. I’m so happy with the new album from The Lumineers! Cleopatra and Ophelia are AHAMAZING.

  5. Kathleen P says:

OK so you and I are on the same wavelength when it comes to British Castles/history. I can’t wait to watch that show on netflix! I watched all the Secret Of… shows on PBS or WHYY. Kimmy Schmidt is amazing! I went through that in a day. I NEED the Lumineers new cd. I went to Target and it was sold out :'( So you’re going to the Bday show in June? I’ll be at Firefly that weekend. I’m sad they won’t be there 🙁 But they’re great live. I can’t wait to hear what you think about Queen of Hearts. I love villains and I love Alice, so I’m really looking forward to it.

  6. I love me some Bear Hands. I have “Giants” on a playlist. I don’t think I knew they had a new album out. Thanks! 🙂
