10 Books On My Summer TBR

Top Ten Tuesday, as  always, is hosted at my other blog — The Broke & the Bookish

This week’s topic: Freebie week — I chose: Top Ten Books on My Summer TBR List

I already talked about my most anticipated for the rest of 2016 so any of those that I already have in my possession or come into my possession during the summer are on that list for sure. BUT THIS WEEK I want to talk about what is at the top of my TBR list for the summer — a combo of new releases and backlist books I own!

stack of books

1. The Museum of Heartbreak by Meg Leder: I always really love cute romantic contemporary YA in the summertime and this one seems so like it fits the bill.

2. The Leaving by Tara Altebrando: I love a good mystery and this one sounds so interesting — six kids go missing and eleven years later five of them return seeming fine but can’t remember anything or why the other kid didn’t come back.

3. Results May Vary by Bethany Chase: This one sounds sooo good! A woman finds out her husband has been having an affair with a man and she’s forced to question everything about the love story she had (especially as more of his secrets come out) and learn how to go from a “we” to an “I” again.

4. Leaving Amarillo by Caisey Quinn: I really really have been craving a good romance novel lately so I own this one and decided it’s on my Summer TBR! Plus a big part of this looks to me music with the main character in a band!

5. Autofocus by Lauren Gibaldi: I really enjoyed Lauren Gibaldi’s debut so I was super excited about this one! It’s about a girl who, for a school project, embarks on a journey to find out about her birth mother.

6. Cloudwish by Fiona Wood: I looooved Wildlife by Fiona Wood so I was SUPER excited to see that she had a new book coming out. It sounds absolutely delightful!

7. This Adventure Ends by Emma Mills: Adventure + new friend groups — I’m there!

8. Cress by Marissa Meyer: I loved the first two books and REALLY need to keep going with the series.

9. A Darker Shade of Magic by VE Schwab: I’ve NEVER read any of her books even though I’ve owned her debut since it came out and own several other. Her books are so beloved, especially this one, and I’m just like HYYYYYYPE even though I’ve been dying to read them.

10. The Girl From Everywhere by Heidi Heilig: This time travel novel was on my most anticipated list for this year and I STILL haven’t read it so it’s time!

So tell me…what books are on your MUST READ for this summer??

About Jamie

Jamie is a 32 year old married lady (with a new baby!!) who is in denial that she's actually that old to be a married lady and a mom. When she's not reading you can find her doing Pilates followed by eating ice cream, belting out Hamilton (loud and offkey) and having adventures with her husband, daughter and rescue dog.

  1. I heard about Autofocus recently and it’s really intrigued me. I want to check out a few of these books on your list. 🙂 I hope you love these!

  2. CRESS!! My mum is actually reading that book right now haha.

  3. Well I’ve actually been thinking of putting together a must read list lol. But I’m a mood reader so even though I tell myself I’m planning on reading a book (like The Girl From Everywhere which seems awesome!) I end up changing my mind and rearranging the list a dozen times. I like to spontaneously pick out books I guess and just get caught up in the moment. So my goal is just to finish a bunch of books on my Kindle and since I recently bought The Bone Season and All The Light We Cannot See, those books are also on a must-read list of sorts! 😀

    • Girlll I am the biggest mood reader too. I just reallyyyy like putting lists together like this but mostly I fail. It does help in those moments where I have no idea WHAT to read or WHAT I’m in the mood for bc then I tell myself “pick off this list!” Plus I like making a seasonal TBR bc more flexibility than a monthly one bc I can read them at my leisure over the months so it feels less schedule-y.

I like that goal though of finishing a bunch of books on your kindle! One of my goals this year was to read more books I own and I’m failing!

  4. I really want to read The Leaving soon too! I’m dying to know what happens!

  5. I’m also planning on doing my summer TBR for today’s freebie topic(of course, I have yet to finish my post. . . god job, self). I love TBR posts, even if I personally have the worst time sticking to them. I haven’t read many of these books, but you are in for some GREAT reads with A Darker Shade of Magic and Cress! I also really enjoyed Wildlife and didn’t know about Cloudwish, so that is definitely going on my TBR as well.

    • YAY! I realized I didn’t schedule a seasonal TBR topic on the master list and I’m like WELP going to do it myself. OOPS.

SAME. I really love making them but I always just go by my reading whims. I mean I think I get to about half of them normally.

YAY another Wildlife fan!!! I feel like nobody has read it!

  6. A Darker Shade of Magic is AMAZING! I just read it and its sequel and I am so obsessed. I’m in such a book hangover rn and it’s painful. I just want to re-read the books non-stop. Anyway, they’re going to rock your summer–read them, read them, read them! 😀

  7. I have Vicious by Victoria Schwab, and it’s signed but I still haven’t read it yet! I think I’m going to buddy read it with my BFF. Cress is really good, I like her loads more than Scarlet!

    • Oooh nothing like a good buddy read with a friend! Let me know how Vicious is!! I think I’m going to start with ADSOM.

I keep hearing this about Cress so I’m excited!

  8. A Darker Shade of Magic is so good!!

  9. I really liked The Girl from Everywhere! I’ve been in such a reading slump this year and that was one of the few books to really pull me out of it.

I also need to get around to reading Cress. I re-read Cinder and Scarlet last fall when Winter came out, thinking I’d FINALLY finish the series, but…nope. Still hasn’t happened.

    • UGH reading slumps. The worst. I’m glad to hear The Girl From Everywhere was such a hit!

And ughh I feel you. I tell myself “oh I have time to catch up on this series before the last book comes out” and then I never do. See: The Lunar Chronicles and The Raven Cycle.

  10. i really hope you like cress and winter! i loved the whole series (so much so that i re-read the first 3 when winter came out).

    • I’m excited to keep going with it! I always want to pick up Cress but then I’m like UGH that book is a beast I don’t feel like reading a long book rn. But I KNOW when I read it I’m going to be like “please don’t let this end!!” lol

  11. ADSOM is definitely a must!!! It was so inventive and wonderful and I didn’t realize everything I was missing in my reading until I got to that book and it gave me everything!!!

  12. I can’t believe you still haven’t read The Girl From Everywhere, and now the title and cover for the second book are already out! XD This Adventure Ends is great, I love the writing!

Awesome list, girly <3 I hope you're able to read all the books on this list this summer ^_^

  13. The only one of these I’ve read is Cress butI loved it- it might be my favorite Lunar Chronicles book! I have a mixture of arcs and backlist on my summer list too. The Royal We is at the top, I can’t believe I haven’t read it yet!

  14. Happy reading to you!! Enjoy your summer reads!

Here’s a link to my TTT post for this week:

  15. I’ve enjoyed Tara’s MG books, need to try The Leaving. I hope you get a chance to read A Darker Shade of Magic. I’ve just been catching up my TBR pile a bit over the summer. My TTT

  16. I LOVE The Girl From Everywhere. So. Good.

Books at the top of my list: Whisper to Me by Nick Lake, Lost in Love by Susane Colasanti, and 12 Days of Terror (I forget the author, but it’s about the 1916 New Jersey shark attacks that inspired Jaws).

  17. YAY for Cress! I’ve got Winter, but it’s so long that I’ve been putting it off. I really need to finish it ASAP though. Have a great week!

  18. OOh nice! Quite a few new to me ones! Though I positively loved Cress! Hope you enjoy them all!

    Here’s my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

  19. The only book I’ve read from your list is Cress, which I absolutely loved! I’m hoping to read A Darker Shade of Magic soon, since everyone seems to love it. And I’m hoping to read The Girl from Everywhere sometime soon too. Can’t wait to see your opinions about them!

I haven’t seen most of these covers, so I love this list. And I still need to read the series. Oops. Soon though! Sometimes international covers can be amazing, other times, not so much. But it looks like this series has been pretty lucky!

I have such needs for The Museum of Heartbreak and Autofocus. I hope they are amazing.

I can’t believe I still haven’t read The Girl From Everywhere. It was one of my most highly anticipated 2016s, I preordered it and everything. I AM SO BAD AT READING.

  21. WOW! I’ve heard just TWO of them. TWO.
I’m definitely thrilled about reading your future reviews about them :O

  22. I have heard so many good things about Girl from everywhere. And Schwab will not disappoint for sure. happy reading

  23. The Girl from Everywhere is on my summer tbr too.

You HAVE to read A Darker Shade of Magic as soon as possible! It is the best!

    Check out my TTT.

  24. Cress is my favorite book in The Lunar Chronicles! It’s just so good, and also, it has my favorite “hero” of the series to read about 😉

  25. A Darker Shade of Magic and This Adventure Ends are SO FREAKING GOOD! You should definitely get to them this summer. 😉 And also Cress so you can move onto Winter, which is an AWESOME series ender with the shippiest ship (I mean I’m kinda biased bc it’s my personal fave of the series, but IT’S JUST SO SHIPPY). I have so many books on my summer TBR, but most importantly are Nevernight, The Bird and the Sword, the Lynburn Legacy series, and When the Moon Was Ours. I will also be reading ACOTAR, The Crown’s Game, and Eleanor and Park for sure in July. And I’m excited about all of them! I hope you enjoy the books on your list, Jamie. 🙂

  26. Yes! Read Cress. I devoured the entire series (well, the core 4) in a week. Cress was the slowest, to me, but still so good and Winter was just AWESOME.

I really want to read The Leaving. Sounds interesting.

  27. Some of these sound SO interesting!

  28. Bianca S says:

Great recommendations. I am a big mystery fan and The Leaving by Tara Altebrando sounds really interesting. I’ll definitely check it out. My favorite summer read so far has been “Naked Ambition” by Rick Pullen (http://rickpullen.com/). The book follows investigative reporter Beck and his findings about a presidential candidate’s unsavory past. The book has it all: twists and turns, corrupt politicians and dirty money, sex, and some great characters. It really left me with so many thoughts and questions about how things really are in politics and journalism! A really fun and entertaining read! I hope you and your readers will check it out!
