New To The Queue

New things to read, watch, listen to

New To the Queue is a semi-monthly thing around here wherein I give you a tiny glimpse into some of the books, movies, tv shows and bands I’ve recently added to my never ending queue of things to read/watch/listen to. For past posts, go here!

Dread Nation Justina IrelandDread Nation by Justina Ireland (Amazon // Goodreads)
Publication Date – April 2018

Why I Added It To My To-Be-Read list: I looooove anything historical fiction with a paranormal twist — in this case ZOMBIES.

What It’s About: The Civil War is derailed when the dead start rising and changes the course of America forever. A Native and Negro Reeducation Act is passed to train certain children to fight the dead and protect the rest of society. The main character is training in both weaponry and etiquette to protect rich families — not at all what she wants to do with her life — and suddenly she finds herself in the middle of a conspiracy/up against powerful enemies when families in wealthy areas start to go missing.

This Is How It Always Is bookThis Is How It Always Is by Laurie Frankel ( Goodreads // Amazon)
Publication Date-
January 2017

Why I Added It To My To-Be-Read list:
I was perusing the Goodreads Choice nominees and it sounded good!

What It’s About: The story of a little boy who wants to be a girl when he grows up and the family who tries to keep that a secret until it explodes.

The Nowhere Girls Amy ReedThe Nowhere Girls by Amy Reed  (Amazon // Goodreads)
Publication Date: October 2017

Why I Added It To My To-Be-Read list:
It showed up in my mailbox and sounded like something I would be interested in!

What It’s About: “Three misfits come together to avenge the rape of a fellow classmate and in the process trigger a change in the misogynist culture at their high school transforming the lives of everyone around them in this searing and timely story.

Home Fire book coverHome Fire by Kamila Shamsie ( Amazon // Goodreads)
Release Date: August 2017

Why I Added It To My To-Be-Read list:
Again…saw it on the Goodreads Choice nominee list and it sounded good!

What It’s About: “The suspenseful and heartbreaking story of an immigrant family driven to pit love against loyalty, with devastating consequences”

Mindhunter on Netflix

Why I Added It To My To Watch Queue:  I am obsessed with murder-y shows and the minds behind serial killers (that sounds so alarming, I know)

What It Is About: “In the late 1970s two FBI agents expand criminal science by delving into the psychology of murder and getting uneasily close to all-too-real monsters. ”

Alias Grace

Why I Added It To My To Watch Queue: I have owned this novel forever sooo hopefully I will read it before I start watching this!

What It Is About: “Based on the true story of Grace Marks, a housemaid and immigrant from Ireland who was imprisoned in 1843, perhaps wrongly, for the murder of her employer Thomas Kinnear. Grace claims to have no memory of the murder yet the facts are irrefutable. A decade after, Dr. Simon Jordan tries to help Grace recall her past.”

Battle of the Sexes movieBattle of the Sexes

Why I Added It To My To Watch Queue:  BILLIE JEAN KING!!!

What It Is About: “In the wake of the sexual revolution and the rise of the women’s movement, the 1973 tennismatch between women’s World #1 Billie Jean King (Emma Stone) and ex-men’s-champ and serial hustler Bobby Riggs (Steve Carell) was billed as the BATTLE OF THE SEXES and became one of the most watched televised sports events of all time, reaching 90 million viewers around the world. As the rivalry between King and Riggs kicked into high gear, off-court each was fighting more personal and complex battles.”

One Bad Mother podcast

Why I Added It To My Listening Rotation:  I wanted to find a funny parenting/mom podcast I could enjoy in the car and this one came highly recommended! Downloaded it and starting it this week!

The Thrill Of It All — Sam Smith

Why I Added It To My Listening Rotation:  I love me some Sam Smith…his voice just like soothes me.

Just The Beginning — Grace VanderWaal

Why I Added It To My Listening Rotation: Caught a couple of her singles and wanted to check out the full album!

If you want to catch what I’m listening to…follow me on Spotify! Let me know who you are so I can follow back and check out youuur music!

YOUR TURN! Tell me one book you added to your TBR list recently! Tell me a movie/tv show you added to your must watch list! Tell me a new band/singer you just added to your musical rotation! Also, have you read/watched/listened to anything on my recently added list? Or did I make you add something to YOUR queue? Tell me, tell me!

About Jamie

Jamie is a 32 year old married lady (with a new baby!!) who is in denial that she's actually that old to be a married lady and a mom. When she's not reading you can find her doing Pilates followed by eating ice cream, belting out Hamilton (loud and offkey) and having adventures with her husband, daughter and rescue dog.

  1. I like your list of reads. Always nice to pick up someone else’s recommendations.

  2. The cover for HOME FIRE is trippy. I feel like I shouldn’t stare at it for too long, lol. I plan on watching STRANGER THINGS (season one and two) with my husband, if we can ever find the time. We’re currently trying to get through the newest season of ZOO (OMG SO GOOD). I thought BATTLE OF THE SEXES looked funny when I watched the trailer! I think the two of them will be hilarious together.

    • Isn’t it?? OMG YAS WATCH STRANGER THINGS. It’s so ridiculously good!!! Will and I are obsessed! Haven’t heard of Zoo! Must check it out!

  3. I need to listen to Sam Smith’s new album ASAP! I just keep forgetting to.

A book I’ve added to my TBR recently… “Love, Hate and Other Filters” by: Samira Ahmed!

Hmm… there’s no new tv shows in my must check out list! But my favorite new Fall show is definitely The Good Doctor!!

Niall Horan’s new album, Flicker, is AMAZING!! You gotta add it to your listen list 🙂 And I need to listen to the entirety of Kelsea Ballerini’s new album, but of the samples I’ve heard, IT’S AMAZING.

    • YES go listen!! I want to read Love, Hate and Other Filters too! I’ve seen The Good Doctor around but haven’t looked into it…off to do that!

  4. I started Mindhunter the other day, the first episode is VERY slow, but it gets much better after that. I am only a few episodes in so far and am enjoying it. Hope you do too!

  5. Dread Nation looks good but historical fiction and zombies are such a hit or miss for me, haha. So I am going to wait that out a bit, see what everyone thinks.

  6. If you enjoy the OBM podcast, the FB community is amazing! I’ve met so many great people through it.
