Jamie is a 30 year old married lady who is in denial that she's actually that old. When she's not reading you can find her doing Pilates followed by eating ice cream or cupcakes, planning trips she has no money for, having brunch with friends, listening to music with oversized headphones and hanging out with her dog Finnikin.

Monthly Rewind: October 2017

WHERE DID OCTOBER GO??? No really…somebody send a search party because I don’t know where the hell it went. It was here one moment and gone the next.

Whatcha In The Mood For? // The Halloween Edition

book recommendations for what type of book you are looking for

OH MAN…it’s been a while since I’ve done one of these posts! It’s that time where I dole out recommendations according to what kind of mood you might be in at random — whether that be an actual mood or a specific type of book. Check out past Whatcha In the Mood For recs!

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE if you could also leave some recs for my categories in the comments to further help people looking for books that fit! Also, have a good idea for a category or something you have been looking for? Leave it in the comments!

This time I decided to do a sort of theme around Halloween because it’s HALLOWEEEEEN today! I’m going as an exhausted first time mom….crusty spitup included for realness. BLARGH. Just kidding. We will probably be sitting around doing nothing tonight…maybe grab some candy and continue watching Stranger Things while Riley sleeps. You can check out this Halloween reading list I made last year if you need even more recs!

Want a historical with a supernatural twist?

Iron Cast

Iron Cast by Destiny Soria

Why? It’s set in Boston in 1919 in a world in which hemopaths exist (people whose blood allows them to create illusions through art) and the main characters are two young girls who perform at the Iron Cast club using their talents for a rapt audience even though it’s illegal to host these sorts of gatherings. The supernatural abilities are really cool and unique. There is something within the blood of hemopaths that allows them to create illusions or manipulate the mind. They each have their artistic talent that allows them to do it — singing, playing an instrument, reciting poetry, or painting. Such an amazing read and PERFECT for Halloween/fall if you don’t love scary but totally want something 1) atmospheric and 2) with some supernatural elements! Check out my full review of Iron Cast!

If We Were Having Coffee

I saw a life coach I love, Ashley, do a post entitled If We Were Having Coffee and I decided to take her lead and do one myself in November 2013 because I loved it and sometimes I feel like we forget that there is a whole life behind the people that write and read blogs. I got such a great response to my initial post so I made it a  reoccurring thing for the past couple of years and do it when I feel so inclined!

So, grab your coffee/beverage of your choice and meet me for a chat. Currently I am drinking Spearmint Herbal Flavored Water from Trader Joe’s!

If we were having coffee….I’d tell you that I’m currently reading They Both Die At The End by Adam SilveraI’d ask what you are reading right now!

If we were having coffee.…I’d tell you that I’m settling into #momlife decently but I’m also still struggling with my identity. I love Riley to pieces and she’s got so much more personality than before when she was a cute little blob of newbornness. She’s fun to hang out with now but sometimes I still struggle with sharing so much of my time and feeling like I don’t have a handle on who I am. BUT I’m taking your advice and trying to be gentle with myself. Also, the blog definitely makes me feel more like myself when I have time to write.

The Books I’ve Read To Riley So Far

good books for babies

As a book lover who has been obsessed with books since I was little, it’s really important for me to try and cultivate a love for books in my little one, Riley. Books have meant so much in my life and I hope one day they will mean a lot to her as well.

I’ve been reading to her since about her first week of life and, even though I know she doesn’t understand what I’m reading, it’s still really good for her. I mean, it helps promote their language skills. Plus there are always so many great visuals in picture books and I can tell she loves looking at them. Also, I love the chance to bond with her and be all snuggled close with a book and hope that as she grows that she will look forward to that time as much as I do.

ANYWHO…she has quite the little library already (thanks to my sister doing the “bring baby a book instead of a card” thing for my baby shower and other friends sending me books) and I’m just going to share what I’ve read with her so far out of all of them!

One of the posts I always catch up on when I open my blog reader, and have for years, is Yes & Yes’s Web Time Wasters posts because I think they are so great! Honestly, I find that they are my favorite posts of lots of lifestyle blogs because they curate them so well and I’m always discovering things! I’m always looking to share articles and random stuff and don’t always feel like waiting until my Monthly Rewind posts so decided to introduce a similar post!

Freaking FINALLY it’s starting to feel like Fall here in Philly. I LOVE summer and hot weather and always beg Mother Nature to keep the party going into September so I can prance around in dresses that make me look like I took time to get ready and lay outside & read with the sun warming my body (and probably burning it…pasty skin and all). But I hit a wall here when in mid October it was still 80 degrees. All I wanted to do was freaking wear my sweaters and trade my sandals for boots and actually be able to dress Riley in all the 0-3 month Fall stuff I bought her thinking YOU KNOW IT WOULD GET COLDER OUT.

So alas, FALL…here we are. I’ve busted out the sweaters (even bought two new ones on sales from Old Navy) and the boots have made their appearance.

MY BODY IS READY.

I NEED TO FALL-IFY MY LIFE.
