Here Comes The Bride – In Which I Need Your Opinions, Friends!

I haven’t done a Wedding Wednesday post in a while because quite frankly wedding stuff stresses me out. I really haven’t been posting as much as usual because between MOVING (yes, we got the keys to our apartment!) & wedding planning & the craziness going on at work for me…I’m just so burnt out that I just don’t have it in me right now. BUT YOU GUYS….

TWO MONTHS UNTIL THE WEDDING (well, on 6/17 it will be exactly two months)

Oh and I got a call that my WEDDING DRESS CAME IN! MY WEDDING DRESS?? Did you hear me? That dress that most little girls fantisize about their whole lives and make out of toilet paper or by layering on their mom’s dresses? Yes, it’s HERE. MY WEDDING DRESS is here.

Anyways, I just had to freak out for a moment. But the real thing that I need your help on is which song I’m walking down the aisle to. I have always known that the traditional “Here Comes The Bride” songs weren’t for me but I didn’t know if I wanted something with words to it. Also wasn’t sure if the church would be down with that. THEN I happened up on the Vitamin String Quartet..and YEAH..totally using their music for the music before the ceremony starts, the processionals & when I walk down the aisle.

I have it narrowed down to two songs and I’m SO torn. One is a song that most know and one is a song that probably nobody at my wedding will know but is one that I personally LOVE because I love this band.

SO…I need you to listen to them both (keep in mind it  won’t be the WHOLE song playing…) so just listen for a minute or so!

First one, Wonderful Tonight (an Eric Clapton song) done by the Vitamin String Quartet. It’s such a sweet song & pretty awww worthy.

OR the Vitamin String Quartet’s version of Hoppipolla by Sigur Ros….whom I LOVE & ADORE. And this song is BEAUTIFUL to boot.

SO let me know what you think!! Now I have to tackle what the parents and the bridal party will be walking down to and our first dance song!

When Someecards Say It Best… – An Update On Wedding Planning

This Wedding Wednesday post is going to be a little different from the ones I’ve done recently with bookish centerpieces or wedding readings from literature. I haven’t done an update in a while so I figured I would…and someecards just seemed like the most fun way to do so.

We’ve been working on our invites! A co-worker and friend (Hi Liz!) of mine is doing them and I’m superrrr excited to see how they turn out. I’ll be for sure doing a vlog showing them to you all! I’ll probably be just staring at them and their prettiness when I get them. This was one thing I was really stressed about but now that the process is underway I’m feeling calm knowing that Liz has it under control!

Seriously…going through our invite list has been the freaking HARDEST THING EVER. We have so many people that we COULD invite but we can’t invite everyone but we just sit their rationalizing WHY we should invite them but our list is getting out of control. I know some people are going to feel offended but…I can’t invite everyone. Oh and let’s talk about how parents want to invite everyone that they’ve ever KNOWN. I know mine aren’t as bad as some but come onnnn.

We’re  trying to figure out where our rehearsal dinner will be and who the heck do we invite?! THIS is beyond insane…why can’t we just do rehearsal cocktails and cupcakes?! And trying to get the details down of all the things we’ll have to rehearse…CANNOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!

Ok not reallyyyy. WE will have an awesome DJ. But we are meeting with some DJ’s this weekend and I’m so stressed about it. The DJ is what keeps the party going so I want them to be good but not a crapload of money!

So for the bridesmaid dresses…I gave my girls a choice of 9 charcoal cocktail dresses in chiffon from the same designer and let them have their pick. All the dresses are REALLLY CUTE! We are ordering this week..I’m excited! That has been a major stress so I finally gave up trying to please everyone and they’ll all have different dresses!

We’ve been slowly but surely working on our registry but DANG…there are SO many things. I didn’t know one could possibly need so many gadgets for the kitchen! It’s kind of stressful because we don’t know where we will be living so it’s hard to know what to put on there depending on how much room we have!

And since they didn’t have any ecards about freaking favors, flowers or centerpieces…I’ll just say OMG…how am I supposed to decide this?! I was a little absent from the blog in the beginning of the month..but I’m honestly just SO STRESSED. I need a wedding planner! Or I just need to elope…

Bookish Engagement & Wedding Pictures – Wedding Wednesday

If you follow me on Twitter, you might recall me mentioning that we found a photographer! We are having Morrissey Photography — the cutest husband and wife duo ever — cover our wedding and we are more than thrilled! While I don’t plan on having a real specific shot list, I do have specific wedding shots I do want and I totally do want to incorporate some bookish element into our wedding photos and engagement photos. So I put together my list of the cutest, most bookworm worthy engagement and wedding photo ideas. I will be for sure using some of these ideas and modifying them! Will already agreed we could do a funny bookish sort of picture of us behind behind my fave book and him behind something funny or ironic..since he doesn’t read. We joked that it would be the “Everybody Poops” book.

All the images are linked to where I found them!
Which ones are your favorite? Have any good ideas for a bookish wedding photo that you want to share with me?? I have a few but I’d love your brains! 😛

Bookish Wedding Centerpieces & Other Table Decor – Wedding Wednesday

As we’ve been SLOWLY trying to figure out the colors and ideas of our general “theme” for the wedding, I’ve been lusting over some bookish centerpieces and other bookish decorations I’ve found on Pinterest and elsewhere. They make planning a book themed wedding so easy! I keep hoping that Will will come around and let me have the bookish wedding I so desire or at least let me find ways to incorporate it in. Here are some of my favorites:

This would be a simple and pretty inexpensive bookish centerpiece idea by using opened books. Don’t know you’d get it to stay but I’m sure you have a whole bookshelf to experiment with. Found here.
Simple yet stunning! Found here.
I love all things garden party-ish for a wedding and this centerpiece is amazing with the candles and flowers set on top of books and the SCRABBLE tiles. They used the tiles to also designate table numbers. Found here.
Really love this one. LOVE the color you know that I love yellow. Found here.
Love this idea of making votives using modpodged book pages (RIP, dear book). Found here.
Is this not perfection on a table? Look at table runner made with book pages, books used as part of the table decor and OH the bookish decorations that are hanging. Found here.
OTHER wedding table decorations
I LOVE this idea for escort cards to be put on the table when you come in. If you are a librarian and you are getting married, you must do this. Found here (and the wedding was at a library. SWOON)
This would be PERFECT to put on your tables at the reception! I am DEFINITELY thinking I’m going to make these for ours. Just a little infusion of my love for books. Found here!
Well, I still haven’t figured out what the heck WE are going to do for our centerpieces but I know I’m so inspired and ready to find something unique and maybe even something a little subtly bookish!
Stay tuned for next week when I show you some AMAZING alternatives to flowers using books! You guys are all going to hate me for all this book death for the sake of DIY wedding projects, aren’t you? And if you missed last week, check out some great bookish wedding readings!

Wedding Readings From Literature

Planning your wedding? Check out these unique wedding readings from literature

Jeez, you guys. I haven’t done a Wedding Wednesday post in a while! I’ve doing a lot of random parts of the wedding planning lately and one of those is picking out wedding readings for the ceremony. I always keep a notebook of quotes that I like from books I read or poems I come across.  Since I’m not having a themed bookish wedding myself (since obviously Will does not share this passion of mine), I do want to incorporate it in subtle ways and I think that choosing a reading from a book I love would be great! I also put some shorter “love” quotes from books in here, even if they aren’t long enough for a reading, to maybe incorporate them into things like the program or something like that. The ones with asterisks are ones I’m really considering for the wedding readings and the programs!

* Great Expectations, Charles Dickens

“Once for all, I knew to my sorrow, often and often, if not always, that I loved her against reason, against promise, against peace, against hope, against happiness, against all discouragement that could be.  Once for all; I loved her none the less because I knew it, and it had no more influence in restraining me, than if I had devoutly believed her to be human perfection.”

*Sonnet 17 – Pablo Neruda

I don’t love you as if you were the salt-rose, topaz or arrow of carnations that propagate fire: I love you as certain dark things are loved, secretly, between the shadow and the soul. I love you as the plant that doesn’t bloom, and carries hidden within itself the light of those flowers, and thanks to your love, darkly in my body lives the dense fragrance that rises from the earth. I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where, I love you simply, without problems or pride: I love you in this way because I know no other way of loving but this, in which there is no I or you; so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when I fall asleep it is your eyes that close.

The moment I heard my first love story I began seeking you,
not realizing the search was useless.
Lovers don’t meet somewhere along the way.
They’re in one another’s souls from the beginning.

I have for the first time found what I can truly love – I have found you. You are my sympathy – my better self—my good angel—I am bound to you with a strong attachment. I think you good, gifted, lovely: a fervent, a solemn passion is conceived in my heart; it leans to you, draws you to my center and spring of life, wraps my existence about you—and, kindling in pure, powerful flame, fuses you and me in one.

The Velveteen Rabbit ” by Margery Williams

“What is REAL?” asked the Rabbit one day, when they were lying side by side near the nursery fender, before Nana came to tidy the room. “Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?”

“Real isn’t how you are made,” said the Skin Horse. “It’s a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.”

“Does it hurt?” asked the Rabbit.

“Sometimes,” said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. “When you are Real you don’t mind being hurt.”

“Does it happen all at once, like being wound up,” he asked, “or bit by bit?”

“It doesn’t happen all at once,” said the Skin Horse. “You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.”

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

“I cannot fix on the hour, or the spot, or the look, or the words, which laid the foundation. It is too long ago. I was in the middle before I knew that I had begun.”

The History of Love by Nicole Krauss

“Once upon a time there was a boy who loved a girl, and her laughter was a question he wanted to spend his whole life answering.”

Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins

“The highest function of love is that it makes the loved one a unique and irreplaceable being.”

Sarah Dessen, The Truth About Forever

“There is never a time or place for true love. It happens accidentally, in a heartbeat, in a single flashing, throbbing moment.”

The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman

“I will love you forever; whatever happens. Till I die and after I die, and when I find my way out of the land of the dead, I’ll drift about forever, all my atoms, till I find you again… I’ll be looking for you, every moment, every single moment. And when we do find each other again, we’ll cling together so tight that nothing and no one’ll ever tear us apart. Every atom of me and every atom of you… We’ll live in birds and flowers and dragonflies and pine trees and in clouds and in those little specks of light you see floating in sunbeams… And when they use our atoms to make new lives, they won’t just be able to take one, they’ll have to take two, one of you and one of me, we’ll be joined so tight…”

*Everything Is Illuminated: A Novel by Jonathan Safran Foer

“If there is no love in the world, we will make a new world, and we will give it walls, and we will furnish it with soft, red interiors, from the inside out, and give it a knocker that resonates like a diamond falling to a jeweller’s felt so that we should never hear it. Love me, because love doesn’t exist, and I have tried everything that does.”

So which one is YOUR favorite? What other passages from books do you think would make a great reading for a wedding? Do share! I’m looking for more!

Wedding Cuteness Thanks To Lauren Oliver! (Wedding Wednesday)

So you know Lauren Oliver,  right? Author of Before I Fall, Delirium (and its sequel PANDY!!!) and now Liesel and Po! Well, as you may well know from my recap post of her book signing event, she is also getting married next year! YAY! Anywho, since we had talked some wedding talk she showed me these adorable creations her soon to be mother-in-law makes for weddings, bridal showers, bachelorette parties and baby showers!

Aren’t they adorable? The first one is such a unique idea to give to somebody for a bachelorette party or bridal party. She makes them with fabric and hair accessories and such. This particular one is for a bachelorette party made with lace underwear and adorable champagne-bottle candles. Lauren ALSO told me that she makes some more wild bachelorette party ones made with sexy thongs, naughty lollipops, etc. Sidenote: WHO KNOWS what kind of search traffic I’ll get for writing about naughty lollipops and sexy thongs. The second one is actually a bouquet she made for a baby shower but she does them for weddings and they are super customizable! Look at those cute baby socks in there!!

She also makes these CUPCAKES out of baby socks, onesies, hats and mittens for baby showers. It’s SUCH a cute gift because the mom ends up getting cute things that are later useful for the baby! My sister got one of these for her baby shower made into the shape of a cake.

Now see, I’ve been looking at alternatives to floral bouquets because they are pretty expensive — I’ve seen buttons, fabric, SEASHELLS…all sorts of things. I’m still undecided if I want pretty florals or something creative like this but I just think they are PERFECT for somebody who wants to steer away from the florals and have something unique and looks perfect for those doing a DIY wedding. Here’s an image that I had seen and bookmarked prior to Lauren sending me the amazing work that her mother in law does! The picture is linked to take you to the Etsy shop where I found it!

SO HOW CUTE ARE THESE?! Seriously..after seeing one of these in person for my sister’s baby shower, I think they are the cutest and most clever gift! What do you guys think about non-floral bouquets? Have you seen any creative ones? Gone that route yourselves?

** This post isn’t sponsored nor was I given any sort of compensation to post about these products. I just thought I’d share them because I really thought they were adorable when Lauren shared them with me! HOWEVER, her mother-in-law is in the process of opening up her own Etsy shop so if you are interested in them you can email Lauren at laurenoliverbooks at gmail dot com.

Pricing Info:

Bouquets and the big cupcake boxes – $35
Mini sock boxes – $18.00.

It’s really a great deal since it is an adorable presentation AND things that are usable!

BUT…if you buy before December 1st, a little birdie told me that she’s giving a 10 percent discount!

Picking Out Colors For Your Wedding..AKA The Bane of My Existence At The Moment

I’m back with Wedding Wednesday this week. Last week I was just SO over it and I was planning my sister’s baby shower sooo I was a tad overwhelmed.

Let’s just talk about how picking out colors for your wedding is NOT FUN. You think it’s going to be all fun and inspiring but really…I’m over trying to find the right shades and combinations. I am so sick of wondering if things will match. Everything on these wedding blogs I look at and the magazines I read look so polished and perfect…I NEED MONEY FOR A PROFESSIONAL. While I can match my clothes in the morning and not look like a total slob, I am way out of my league nor do I feel like putting the energy into color palettes and trying to figure out whether tangerine or clementine are the same mothertrucking color!

That being said, we think we narrowed it down…but I keep waffling after I make a decision. Here’s are three options. You let me know what you think, dearest readers, because pretty much I trust you all implicitly forever and always. Clearly we dig the grey.

Grey & Purple

Purple is just so pretty! Also, it was my mom’s favorite color and it might be a good way to honor my mom in a small way that only a few would know. Also, the girls could wear purple and the boys could wear grey and it’s easy peasy. I could probably do purple matching a lot easier.

Grey & Orange
I love how modern and chic these colors are and it would look great with our venue for sure. Also, this was Will’s palette of choice. That being said, I have two concerns.
1. I don’t want it to look fall-ish. Our wedding is in the summer and I want it to be a bright summery and not look like we should be carving pumpkins. Finding the perfect shade of orange is crucial and that extends to a lot of things — flowers, ties, etc. etc.
2. I don’t want the girls to wear orange. I would want them to wear grey because I prefer it over orange. I like the look of the charcoal grey dresses and bright orange flowers. BUT..Will wants the guys to wear grey so we were thinking that we’d have the guys in a lighter grey. BUT WILL THAT MATCH?! I’ve found some inspiration for this idea but not much!

Grey & Yellow

I’m the girl who is obsessed with yellow. I have more yellow clothing than anyone in their whole entire life will ever have. I AM OBSESSED WITH YELLOW AND SUNFLOWERS. I would want the girls to wear grey because they all HATE yellow.  But I just wonder if this color would look good in our venue and I know it’s Will’s least favorite.

What think you, friends? Somebody needs to make decisions for me! Because I’ve settled and each one of them at least once!

* I do not own any of the photos. The picture is linked to wear I found them.

So I Went Wedding Dress Shopping…. (Wedding Wednesday)

I’ll just tell you that the whole experience was surreal. I felt like I was playing dress up pretty much. It totally wasn’t like Say Yes To The Dress in most ways but in some ways it was kind of. I loved walking out in each dress and standing on a little pedestal with all eyes on me. I felt amazing in each dress but I just never got that MOMENT that I see on Say Yes To The Dress. I didn’t cry. I was really rather emotionless about the whole  thing which is wierd for me since I cry about everything. HOWEVER, I really really loved one dress that my whole family loved as well.  And I figured I might as well share it with you all.

From Ella Bridal – Dress 5513

I didn’t end up buying it because I just wasn’t sure. It’s REALLY hard to be sure. I honestly thought out of 12 or so dresses..all of them looked good except one. So HOW TO PICK?! It could be any one of them. And because I got myself all psyched out that I should have this overwhelming OMG moment that I see on tv. I keep thinking maybe I need to keep looking. I don’t know…the more I keep staring at this dress the more I think it is the one but my plan is to go for round 2 at another dress shop and then go back and try this one on. It looked amazing on me. I felt thin yet shapely and just gorgeous….and it made my boobs look good which is always hard for those of us who lack the boobage. And I’m one that is never happy with how I look! I honestly felt like a grownup in it. I’m always told how “cute” I look and how I look like I’m 16…but in this dress I felt so sophisticated and my age! It was really nice.

Fictional Characters Might Make Better Wedding Guests – A Weird Wedding Wednesday

Typically my Wedding Wednesday’s are not this BIZARRE…but I need some way to channel the Bridezilla that is lying dormant within me and waiting to come out!

We’ve had a rough estimate of how many people we were inviting to the wedding but this past weekend we’ve been trying to nail down the guest list…which seriously like nailing jam to the ceiling. NOT FUN. Discussions look like this:
“I don’t REALLY want to invite this person but I have to. Do we invite kids or not? But my family will freak if we don’t invite the 18 kid since we are closeknit and family matters. Will we talk to this person again? They invited us to theirs. Well, your family has more people invited so I should get to invite more. This person hates this person so we have to remember to seat them far away from one another. I don’t know if she’ll bitchslap her if they are in the same room? Problem solved..I’ll put a cage in the middle of the dance floor and they can FIGHT TO THE DEATH. WHY IS THIS SO HARD?!?

Ok, so I’m exaggerating a bit…but not much. This guest list hoopla is going to be the death of me. Also, figuring out my last bridesmaid is going to kill me as well. I have a person who I feel obligated to have in it (family) and in my heart of hearts I don’t want her in it..but it’s probably be bad if I didn’t.

That being said, all the invite madness made me have a bizarre daydream. I started thinking about what my wedding would look like if I invited fictional characters from books to be a part of my day. Bare with me, this takes a little imagination on your part..but it’s fun to think about. I mean, honestly how could it NOT be awesome.

1. There would be major eye candy at my wedding. I, of course, couldn’t partake but the single ladiesss would be hitting the dance floor with men like Mr. Darcy, Cricket, St. Clair, Gale, Peeta, Adam from If I Stay,  Marcus Flutie, Wes, Dexter…oh and DAMON SALVATORE. I can still invite him even though I’ve never read the books etc. etc.  GET IT GIRLS.  THIS COULD BE YOU!!

2. I’d have the best dress ever designed by Cinna (Hunger Games) & Lola (Lola & The Boy Next Door). I’d ask Cinna to scale down on the glitter and pyrotechnics but it would be the best one of a kind dress EVER.

3. I’d get the best presents. I’d imagine the paranormal characters could bestow some awesome weapons and powers upon me. Roger could make me a mixtape. Mr. Darcy could probably buy me an estate.

4. It would be epic to see characters across different books be chatting it up. I mean, some of it might be problematic when you get some enemies across paranormal lines or some bad boy hotties trying to be the center of attention but it’d be amazing. You might see Katniss & Elizabeth Bennet & Marcus Flutie doing the Chicken Dance together. EPIC. Disclaimer: The Chicken Dance will not get any love at my wedding!

5. I’d have the best bridesmaids ever:
– Lola — She’d make sure I looked fantastic and she’d create the best bridesmaid dresses.
– Katniss — She’d kick anybody’s ass that would try to ruin my day.
– Jessica Darling — She’d be sure to make me laugh throughout the whole process.
– Elizabeth Bennet — Really..she’s a sweetheart and would keep me real.
– Alice Cullen — Excellent fashion sense and might be helpful to have someone foresee every and all wedding day disasters.

Ok, obviously real live people are better. But for this Wedding was MUCH better to think about fictional characters as it is much less stressful than the reality of my REAL LIVE GUEST LIST.

Which characters would YOU invite to your wedding? Who would be in your wedding party?

Bookish Save The Dates…OH AND MINE!! – Just Another Wedding Wednesday!

Wedding Wednesday chronicles my wedding journey from now until August 17! I’ll talk about my own wedding planning, cool bookish weddings and just things that inspire me!

Our Save The Dates are done!! Fellow blogger, friend and seriously crazy talented graphic designer (who also did my business cards!) Katie did them for us and they are PERFECT and exactly our style! I am so excited to see them in person!!

While we were looking for ideas for Save the Dates we liked I came across some awesome bookish Save the Dates that would be perfect for any bookworm that is tying the knot! We didn’t go with anything bookish because, well, as I’ve said before Will is just not the bookish type.

Love the idea of using book pages or in this case pages from the dictionary for Save the Dates

I love the idea of doing a bookmark for a Save the Date! I’ve seen quite a few of them! And think it is such a practical idea too…I mean who can’t use another bookmark!

These comic book themed Save the Dates are the most epic things I’ve ever seen.

Love the library card themed Save the Dates. SO clever.

Have you seen any cool bookish Save the Dates? What do you think of these?
