1. We went to the US soccer match against Paraguay: We had SUCH a good time tailgating and watching the US win! We sat in the Sam’s Army section which was super rowdy and exciting and fun!

YA Beach Reads For Those Who Don’t Really Read Contemporary YA

YA fantasy beach reads

Typically when you think ~beach read~ and what you’ll find on most lists are contemporary books (like the beach reads list I made last week)…which I love! But what about when contemporary isn’t your jam or you aren’t really in the mood for contemporary?? I gotchuuuu!

Here are some books that I think make excellent beach reads and in some way kind of capture the same spirit of a ~beach read~ except it’s not contemporary! I tend to really like addictive and page-turning beach reads and all of these pretty much have that element. With fantasy, my beach reads tend to be not like super high fantasy or with super intricate world-building because I’m too easily distracted on a beach for that!

Next week I’ll be back with my adult fiction recs!

1. We spent a week in London and a week in Madrid: It was SUCH an amazing trip. Like I have no words. I’ve been meaning to recap it in some way (I have these photos I shared) but honestly there’s so much to say about it. But long story short — we had a GREAT trip, are sad to be back (except to see Finn, friends and family) and are already planning our next trip (and crying about how much money we don’t have). The struggle is real. Honestly just really thankful that it worked out for us to make this trip. It’s been hard to do much traveling ever since we started our marriage off with me losing my job but IT FINALLY HAPPENED.

Whatcha In The Mood For? (With A Special Guest!!)

book recs

It’s that time where I dole out recommendations according to what kind of mood you might be in at random — whether that be an actual mood or a specific type of book. Check out past Whatcha In the Mood For recs!

Hi guys! I looove doing my Whatcha in the Mood For posts and was thinking how fun it would be to invite a guest every once in a while and I thought who would be better for a first guest than my friend Estelle, formerly of one of my FAVORITE BLOGS EVER Rather Be Reading (all the sads!!), who I personally blame for SO many books on my TBR list and so many books I’ve read that have become favorites. She is an A+ book recommendation machine and a great friend.

This was SUPPOSED to be scheduled before I left for vacation but the morning before we left (and when I was planning to come on and schedule it) my Internet decided to not work. OF COURSE.

10 Book Lists To Check Out

I thought it would be fun, while I am away on vacation for these two weeks, to put together a post of some of my favorite book lists I’ve written over the past six years because 1) you may have missed them and 2) I’ve been a little more quiet on the book talks lately leading up to this trip and obviously during so I figured I’d make sure I left you some book recommendations if you were in need!

Want an underrated contemporary YA?

Bunheads by Sophie Flack

Bunheads by Sophie Flack

Why?  It’s a more quiet contemporary YA about a nineteen year old ballerina in a super prestigious and competitive ballet company. Her whole life has been devoted and she’s been used to juggling everything else in life around it…until she meets Jacob and gets a taste for the freedom outside of a life of professional ballet which makes her question if this is what she really wants for her life. The ballet descriptions are so vivid and transports you right into this world! (even more thoughts on Bunheads by Sophie Flack)

Want a fun YA Davinci Code sort of book?

Conspiracy of Us by Maggie Hall

The Conspiracy of Us by Maggie Hall

Why?  This book was a really fun thriller/mystery that will have you traipsing around the world to figure out a mystery that is rooted in an ancient prophecy. It’s got a dangerous secret society of powerful people, conspiracies, secrets and lies and some eye candy for the main character. I didn’t looove the romance that much, if I’m being honest, but I still had fun with this one and am on board for the next book.

In Need Of Recommendations Because Of My Current TV Show Obsession!!

SOOOO thanks to my dear friend Gillian I started watching Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries on Netflix.

IT IS SO GOOD. SERIOUSLY.

It’s set in Australia in the 1920’s and revolves around Miss Phryne Fisher who is the most badass and glamorous lady detective in all the land. She figures out things that take the police (oh how I do love the detective and constable though!). Hey and it’s based on a book series!!

tumblr_ntjd96xXyu1ua8dzvo5_250

I grew up reading Nancy Drew and watching Murder She Wrote so I’ve always had a penchant for a good mystery and a leading lady detective/sleuth. Now no disrespect to those two, as they are absolutely classics, but I’m only half way done the first season, and Phryne is capturing my heart and MAY just be my favorite lady detective ever. Seriously.

1. I injured my wrist  Gah this was a major bummer of the month. I strained my wrist when I was stretching it a little too far in the beginning of the month and it just pretty much hasn’t been back to normal. It was feeling better and then I was a dum dum and thought I could get back to doing Pilates and some of my more wrist intense HIIT moves and NOPE..made it hurt. I talked about it in this post but it’s been really hard because 1) I had been so pumped with my fitness goals and as much as I’ve tried to modify my workouts to not include any exercises that put weight on my wrist it’s just been frustrating. Plus I have had to limit my blogging/computer time and oh my god it even had hurt to use my hand to write with a pen and paper. It’s not really hurting much anymore but I’m going to still take it easy and ease back into wrist type exercises. Plus we had to miss our planned skiing trip!
