Best (And A Little Of The Worst) Of 2017

Best Of 2017

Ah, the New Year. I love a good clean slate even though I maintain you can start anew every day/hour/minute. I also love it because it brings forth a lot of reflection for me when I look at my year as a whole. What did I accomplish? What stood in my way? What were the ups and downs? What did I enjoy? What were my favorite things! So let’s take a look back, shall we? (and then come back tomorrow as I look ahead to this new year!!)

I used to do several Best Of posts but this year I kind of just felt going simple and minimal with it! If you REALLY want to get a feel for my year you can surely check out my Monthly Rewinds!

Eight 2015 Debut Novels That Shouldn’t Be Missed

As I’ve done in previous years I wanted to highlight some of my favorite debut novels of the year! I always make it a point to read a lot of debut novels and I’ve really enjoyed, over the past 5 years, giving a debut novel a chance and watching over all these years a career propel forward. You just never know which debut novelist will become a favorite and I can say I’ve had this happen quite a few times.

Shoutout to Becky Albertalli’s Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda who was on my overall top 2015 releases and is MY FAVORITE BOOKS OF 2015. So obviously it makes this list!

Mosquitoland David Arnold

1.Mosquitoland by David Arnold: Honestly this was one of my favorite books this year and the only reason I didn’t put it on my overall top 2015 releases is because I knew I would put it on this list and there were some non-debuts I wanted to also get some attention! This book was like nothing I ever read and was really something special! (my review of Mosquitoland)

Underneath Everything

2. Underneath Everything by Marcy Beller Paul: This one was so unsettling the way this relationship between two (toxic) best friends is explored. There was something about it that was so different than anything I’ve ever read in terms of how a toxic friendship was explored. Plus the writing was great! (my mini book talk of Underneath Everything)
