August 2014 Most Wanted Books

I know I always highlight upcoming releases in my Catalog Creepin’ posts but typically those are far off when the catalog just comes out. I wanted to highlight the books I’m excited about/intrigued about that I think you should be looking at, too! I change my categories at random! You can find old Most Wanted posts here.

Man, it’s been a couple months since I’ve showed you all what I was excited about for each month and think should be on YOUR radar as well! May through July was CRAZY and something had to give…this post ended up being one of those things haha.

WAH there were so many more I want to add but I’m resisting.

3 YA Debut Picks

debut-YA-novels-2014

Far From You by Tess Sharpe
Factors for wanting it: It just sounds so different. Sophie’s best friend dies & everyone assumes it was her fault — a drug deal gone wrong because Sophie was addicted to her pain meds. She gets put in rehab and gets out and is pretty much all alone and tries to piece together  who murdered her best friend. It sounds suspenseful and I’m curious about the “secret” though some shelves on Goodreads kind of give that away I think?
Amazon | Goodreads

Open Road Summer by Emery Taylor
Factors For Wanting It: UMM ROAD TRIP & looks like a perfect summer read. It had me there. Planning on reading this soon.Amazon | Goodreads

The Chance You Won’t Return by Annie Cardi
Factors For Wanting It: It looks offbeat and awesome and I love interesting family dynamics. Also looks kind of heartbreaking, too.
Amazon | Goodreads

Amazon | Goodreads

Contemporary YA Picks

teen realistic fiction releases

The Museum of Intangible Things by Wendy Wunder
Factors for wanting it: ROAD TRIP! FRIENDSHIP! And honestly I’m kind of a sucker for thinking about those big, intangible things. I hope it doesn’t disappoint!
Amazon | Goodreads

There Will Come A Time by Carrie Arcos
Factors for wanting it: I love sibling stories, bucket lists and stories dealing with grief.
Amazon | Goodreads

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han
Factors for wanting it: I love Jenny Han! Also this was why I always hid my journal like crazy as a teen…I’m mortified for Lara Jean in this! Basically she writes a letter, never to be sent, to her crushes rather than admitting them and one day someone mysteriously as mailed ALL of her letters to their respective crush and so obviously she has to confront THAT.
Amazon | Goodreads

Adult Fiction Picks

adult-fiction-titles-april-2014

The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin

The Taking by Kimberly Derting Factors For Wanting It: I love Kimberly Derting’s first series so I’m hoping this one will be excellent too! Plus love the premise — a girl wakes up behind behind a Dumpster with no recollection of how she got there and she finds out she has been missing for 5 years. Also, possible alien abduction?!

A Fantasy Pick

The Winner's Curse

This book has been SUPER hyped and it’s not even out yet! I’ve, embarrassingly, had a copy of it since BEA and still haven’t gotten to it. I’m scared a little because I don’t read a ton of fantasy but I’ve heard excellent things sooo I’m going to start this one next!
Factors for wanting it: So many different people have liked it and that says a lot for me when readers who enjoy different genres enjoy something plus the reviews have been just RAVE.
Amazon | Goodreads

A Young Adult Historical Fiction Pick (With Magic!)

The Mirk and the Midnight Hour

I’d been curious about this one because I love historical fiction and it looks interesting and then it showed up yesterday so I’m like YESSSS this book and I are meant to be…hopefully?!

Amazon | Goodreads

A Contemporary YA Pick

The Summer of Letting Go
I hadn’t heard of this one until I went to ALA and was talking to a nice woman at the booth and she suggested this one! It looks so good and a bit different and like something that probably will make me cry. (Whatever, I like crying.)
Factors for wanting it: grief (you know I’m a glutton for punishment), family dynamics, sister/brother relationship, wondering about the little boy who Francesca thinks is the reincarnation of her little brother + their relationship
Amazon | Goodreads

An Adult Fiction Pick – Contemporary

Safe With me by Amy Hatvany

I’ve not read this author before but I’ve heard great things and this seems like something I would like! Again, I’m probably going to cry with this one. I’ve always been fascinated by families who lose someone that donates an organ and they become close with the family/who the organ saved. I’ve seen pieces on tv and it must be so, so hard. And with this one the mom doesn’t want to reveal who she is.
Factors for Wanting It: mother/daughter story, grief story (mother unexpectedly loses daughter),  the connection between two families in tragedy
Amazon | Goodreads

A Pick From An Author I’ve Read Before

Panic by Lauren Oliver

I really like Lauren Oliver’s writing and enjoyed (ehh okay minus Requiem) her Delirium series! It’s a standalone, sounds incredibly intriguing and some of my friends have said good things about it! I’m hoping to start it soon since she is coming to my area (Philly) for the Storycrush tour! (If you are in the Philly area you should come!)
Factors For Wanting It: Seems thrilling, high stakes & mysterious game aspect, secrets, it’s a Lauren Oliver book!
Amazon | Goodreads

An Adult Historical Fiction Pick

Fallen Beauty
As soon as I saw the cover for this book I wanted it! I’m obsessed with the 1920’s and can’t pass up a book set in that time period.
Factors For Wanting It: 1920s, the idea of these “fallen” women who are non-conformists in society, friendship
Amazon | Goodreads

So guys, which ones have you read? Which ones are you excited for? What are some other March releases you are looking forward to or have read that I don’t have on here? And for the love of puppies, please tell me which ones I should read FIRST?

Unravel Me was one of the best second books in a trilogy/series ever!
Amazon | Goodreads

A Debut Author Pick

Something Real Heather Demetrios

This book made my list for top ten most anticipated 2014 debut novels! The main character has grown up on a reality tv show with her 12 siblings until a scandal cancels the show. She starts to live a normal life again when suddenly they are bringing the show back and are forcing her to be on it.
Amazon | Goodreads

A Contemporary YA Pick

Me Since You by Laura Wiess

Amazon | Goodreads

An Adult Fiction Pick – Contemporary

The Good Luck of Right Now by Matthew Quick

New Matthew Quick! YAY! I loved Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock and I was very excited to see he was coming out with a new adult fiction novel! I was lucky enough to pick up a finished copy at ALA this past weekend so I’m very excited to start this soon!
Amazon | Goodreads

A Dystopian Pick

Landry Park by Bethany Hagen

This one is pitched as Downton Abbey meets The Selection? Neither of which I’ve watched/read but perhaps that might be helpful to you if sometimes you can’t help but be lured by comparisons like me? I’m hoping this one is excellent because it sounds interesting!
Amazon | Goodreads

So guys, which ones have you read? Which ones are you excited for? What are some other February releases you are looking forward to or have read that I don’t have on here? And for the love of puppies, please tell me which ones I should read FIRST?

I honestly don’t have many MUST HAVES for December — which is good for my TBR so I can read some of the other Fall releases I’ve neglected.

A Release I’ve Already Read and It NEEDS To Be On YOUR TBR LIST

13138635

My full review will be posted but you may have seen my pre-review Save the Date thoughts for These Broken Stars. This book was AWESOME and you all need to read it. Can’t wait until I can buy my finished copy! I also had Amie Kaufman and Megan Spooner on the blog and learned some of how they write a book together.

A Contemporary YA Pick

Roomies by Sara Zarr

I was so bummed I didn’t get this at BEA but then I scored it on Netgalley and I’m planning on reading it this week. I’ve heard excellent things from people I trust and IT IS SET IN COLLEGE. This makes me veryyyyy happy!
Amazon | Goodreads

An Adult Fiction Pick – Contemporary

Out To Lunch Stacey Ballis

This looks really cute and I’ve never heard of this author before so I always love the possibility of discovering a new to me author that I love! The MC’s best friend dies young and she’s left a last request for her best friend to have financial custody of her husband — a man with crazy business schemes. I can’t tell if it’s going to be a romance or just a friend kind of thing but I’m intrigued!
Amazon | Goodreads

So guys, which ones have you read? Which ones are you excited for? What are some other December releases you are looking forward to or have read that I don’t have on here? And for the love of puppies, please tell me which ones I should read FIRST?

I honestly don’t have many MUST HAVES for November– which is good for my TBR so I can read some of the other Fall releases I’ve neglected. Also, totally didn’t plan to have a Catalog Creepin’ and a Most Wanted post next to each other — I apologize to your TBR in advance.

A Contemporary Pick

The F-It List by Julie Halpern

This one is probably going to make me cry. I know it. I love all things bucket list related (and faithfully keep one of my own) and this sounds like a great friendship story. Tissues will be at my disposal!
Amazon | Goodreads

A Non-Fiction Pick

Princesses Behaving Badly sounds like such a fun read. I always have loved interesting non-fiction and this fits the bill! I love reading about badass women!

Amazon | Goodreads

An Adult Fiction Pick – Contemporary

17331511

I really liked this author’s book called Backseat Saints and this one sounds really good. If you love books that take place in the South, I’d definitely check her books out!
Amazon | Goodreads

A Thriller

17520996

I rarely encounter many medical-ish thrillers in YA so I’m intrigued by this one! The MC has had a rare heart condition and has missed out on so much in life that she just aches. Her parents give her three days to prove she can handle school so she takes the plunge and does it but realizes this school is definitely not normal.

Amazon | Goodreads

So guys, which ones have you read? Which ones are you excited for? What are some other November releases you are looking forward to or have read that I don’t have on here? And for the love of puppies, please tell me which ones I should read FIRST?

Amazon | Goodreads

A Mystery Pick

Picture Me Gone by Meg Rosoff

I’m always looking for a good mystery type read and I hadn’t heard anything when it showed up in my mailbox but it piqued my interest a bit. I have a good feeling!
Amazon | Goodreads

An “I don’t even know what genre but it sounds awesome” pick

9780670786206_ManMadeBoy_JK.inddIt sounds like it is a mix of fantasy and paranormal and has a retelling element to it? I DON’T EVEN KNOW. It showed up, I never heard of it and then I read the summary and I saw “the son of Frankenstein’s monster and the bride” and I was like YES PLEASE. I love a unique premise that is unlike ANYTHING I’ve heard of.
Amazon | Goodreads

2 Books From Authors I’ve Previously Loved

Reality Boy by AS King

I really loved Please Ignore Vera Dietz by AS King and this one sounds SO good as it tells the story of a boy who was, at 5 years old, thrust into the spotlight of reality tv.
Amazon | Goodreads

Across A Star Swept SeaI am obsessed with For Darkness Shows The Stars and I am SO PUMPED for this one that I almost wept a little when I got it at BEA. It’s a retelling of The Scarlet Pimpernel set in the same world as FDSTS. YEEHAW.

October Releases I’ve Read:
Just One Year by Gayle FormanOh YOU KNOW. Just my favorite author with a new book. No big deal. Check out my review of Just One Year by Gayle Forman.

So guys, which ones have you read? Which ones are you excited for? What are some other October releases you are looking forward to or have read that I don’t have on here? And for the love of puppies, please tell me which ones I should read FIRST?

Catalog Creepin’ — Penguin Spring/Summer 2013

Catalog Creepin’ is a feature here at The Perpetual Page-Turner that was inspired by the “Books to Pine For” feature over at Kristi’s blog and really fueled by my obsession with scouring catalogs from my favorite publishers to see what upcoming books I should be adding to my already-ready-to-topple-over To Be Read list. Each Catalog Creepin’ post will spotlight a different catalog from my favorite publishers and their imprints. I won’t be covering all publishers — just my personal favorites whether they be the big honchos or smaller publishing houses.

Last week I creeped HarperCollins catalog and I was really heavy on the dystopian/science fiction. Penguin’s catalog? HOLY GOOD CONTEMPS!

YOUNG ADULT

** PSA: I have been informed that May 7th is only a placeholder. WAHH PLEASE DON’T MAKE ME WHAT LONGER! **You know my love for Anna & The French Kiss and Lola and the Boy Next Door. If Stephanie Perkins was a boy band and I was teen Jamie in the 90’s I’d have bedazzled t-shirts declaring my love. This book and Just One Day by Gayle Forman are my two most anticipated books of 2013. I CANNOT WAIT.

Invisibility by David Levithan & Andrea Cremer (May 7, 2013)

I am so stinking excited about this one! I remember at a book signing with Andrea she mentioned she and David were writing a book. You know my love for David so it was automatic OMG YES but then I read Nightshade & loved Andrea’s storytelling. SO YES YES YES TO THIS. It’s about a boy who has literally always been invisible because of a curse until one day when the new girl in town actually sees him.

How Not To Find A Boyfriend by Allyson Valentine Schrier(June 13th 2013)

This one had me at “for fans of Stephanie Perkins” but honestly this sounds cute! A used to be nerd turns social butterfly but when a smart & cute guy moves into town she realizes she needs to prove that she’s not JUST the popular girl she has turned into.  Always love these stories about teens figuring out who they are. This one sounds FAB!

The Theory of Everything by Kari Luna (July 11th 2013)

This one I’m super excited about! It looks super quirky AND the MC loves 80’s rock music! Her whole life her father, who has disappeared, has seen things that nobody else does and suddenly Sophie has started seeing things too. She starts to discover her father’s research on string theory & alternate universes in hopes to find him. ALSO marching pandas?? SIDEBAR: Does the model not look like the same model as on Lola and the Boy Next Door’s cover?

Five Summers by Una LaMarche (May 16th 2013)
I love books about friendship, like SEEK THEM OUT, and this one looks great! For five summers the girls have gone to camp together but their last summer was tinged with betrayals, lies and secrets. Three years later at a camp reunion the girls are reunited. Seriously, this sounds fantastic!

Our Song by Jordanna Fraiberg (May 2, 2013)
I’m really intrigued by this one! Olive had a near death accident and ever since she has been haunted by a melody. When she joins a support group (The Near Death Society) she meets & falls in love with Nick, a mysterious boy who she ‘s strangely drawn to, who helps her put together the pieces of what happened on the night of the accident.

Imposter by Susanne Winnacker (July 11th 2013)
Tessa has a special ability in which just by touching she is able to absorb their DNA and pose as them. She uses her skills to help a secret branch of the FBI and they have her impersonating a local teen to help stop a serial killer in a small town. This sounds mysterious and very likely a page turner! Curious to how that ability works!

Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea by April Genevieve Tucholke (August 15, 2013)
This sounds pretty freaking amazing! The Devil disguised as the hot boy next door? Count me in!

The Moon and More by Sarah Dessen (June 4th 2013)

It’s SARAH DESSEN. And it sounds like the perfect summer read!

ADULT

Gameboard of the Gods by Richelle Mead (June 4th 2013)

I can’t even explain this. If I tried I would just be copying and pasting the summary pretty much. It sounds so intricate. I’m fascinated by this future world in ruins thanks to religious extremists. I’m intrigued about the supernatural element and what could be lurking in the shadows!

Omens by Kelley Armstrong (August 1st 2013)
I loved The Gathering and have been SO late to the Kelley Armstrong love so I’m all about this one.  A 24 year old girl, from a very wealthy family, finds out she is adopted and goes to seek out who her parents were. She finds out her REAL parents are serial killers in jail and tries to learn more about them while also discovering she has some supernatural abilities and something dark living in the hometown of her parents. SOUNDS AWESOME!

No Cover: Headhunters On My Doorstep by J. Maarten Troost (Out June 13th): I LOVE LOVE LOVE travelogues and J. Maarten Troost writes some of the best ever! This journey? Following the footsteps of Robert Louis Stevenson (Treasure Island) he hops the islands of the South Pacific. SO EXCITED.

Which ones are you most excited for?? Any other 2013 releases from Penguin that may have flown off my radar? Especially any adult titles!?
