Top Ten Favorite Book Quotes

Another lovely Tuesday because it is Top Ten Tuesday time over at The Broke and the Bookish.

This week the topic is favorite book quotes! I am a quote fanatic. I write them down and I read them over and over again. I had about 50 favorite quotes I wanted to share but I figured I’d spare you all. The books that I have taken quotes from are just a few among many from each book. I think I had about 3 pages worth of quotes written done from EL&IC! Most of these are my favorite books! Enjoy!

1. “I like to see people reunited, I like to see people run to each other, I like the kissing and the crying, I like the impatience, the stories that the mouth can’t tell fast enough, the ears that aren’t big enough, the eyes that can’t take in all of the change, I like the hugging, the bringing together, the end of missing someone.”Β  Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close: A Novel by Jonathan Safran Foer

2. I like too many things and get all confused and hung-up running from one falling star to another till i drop. This is the night, what it does to you. I had nothing to offer anybody except my own confusion.”β€” On the Road by Jack Kerouac

3. “I took a deep breath and listened to the old brag of my heart. I am, I am, I am.”– The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

4. I’m sick of just liking people. I wish to God I could meet somebody I could respect.” — Franny and Zooey by JD Salinger

5. “We need enormous pockets, pockets big enough for our families and our friends, and even the people who aren’t on our lists, people we’ve never met but still want to protect. We need pockets for boroughs and for cities, a pocket that could hold the universe.” — Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

6. “Nothing behind me, everything ahead of me, as is ever so on the road. (On the Road — Jack Kerouac)

7. “Once upon a time there was a boy who loved a girl, and her laughter was a question he wanted to spend his whole life answering.” The History of Love by Nicole Krauss

8. “I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book! — When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library.” – Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

9. “Tonight, I feel like my whole body is made out of memories. I’m a mix-tape, a cassette that’s been rewound so many times you can hear the fingerprints smudged on the tape.” — Love is a Mix Tape by Rob Sheffield

10. “Even now, all possible feelings do not yet exist, there are still those that lie beyond our capacity and our imagination. From time to time, when a piece of music no one has ever written or a painting no one has ever painted, or something else impossible to predict, fathom or yet describe takes place, a new feeling enters the world. And then, for the millionth time in the history of feeling, the heart surges and absorbs the impact.” — The History of Love by Nicole Krauss

And I’m including an 11..because I can!

11. “Like driving along a bumpy road and losing control of the steering wheel, tossing you–just a tad–off the road. The wheels kick up some dirt, but you’re able to pull it back. Yet no matter how hard you try to drive straight, something keeps jerking you to the side. You have so little control over anything anymore. And at some point, the struggle becomes too much–too tiring–and you consider letting go. Allowing tragedy…or whatever…to happen. Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

  1. You're number 8 is one of the many I love from P&P. I want to have my own library room when I live in an actual house and not an apartment, I think that probably goes for everyone who has their own book blog πŸ™‚

  2. Emilyandherlittlepinknotes says:

me too (I am a quote fanatic), two of my favorites:

"There are no great fanfares for the truly great moments of your life. Just dripping taps and the sound of your own footsteps, walking from one room into another" Kathleen Tessaro

    and

"First single. Fucking brilliant. Perhaps the most fucking brilliant song ever written. Because they nailed it. That’s what everyone wants. Not 24-7 hot wet sex. Not a marriage that lasts a hundred years. Not a Porsche or a blow job or a million-dollar crib. No. They wanna hold your hand. They have such a feeling that they can’t hide. Every single successful love song of the past fifty years can be traced back to β€˜I Wanna Hold Your Hand.’ And every single successful love story has those unbearable and unbearably exciting moments of hand-holding. Trust me. I’ve thought a lot about this.

About "I wanna hold your hand" by The Beatles"

    I love that Kerouac's quote

  3. Man of la Books says:

#4 seems like something Tarantino would write, LOL

  4. I now remember the Franny and Zooey quote it's a good one. I suspect there's some good quotes that could come from the conclusion of that book. I wish I either had a better memory or could get in the habit of highlighting or noting some favorite lines. I only seem to remember openers and closers.

  5. Fantastic list. Two of my favorite books are The History of Love and Franny and Zooey. I need to read Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close asap .

  6. I've seen so many quotes from Pride & Prejudice it's making me want to re-read it. I've never read any of the other books (except Thirteen Reasons Why), they look good!

  7. Wow, so many of your quotes just took my breath away! These are brilliant and beautiful! I need to read these books! πŸ™‚

  8. Loving all your quotes. It is so amazing to see all the different quotes everyone picks up from one book. Every sentence resonates so differently with people. You picked up two quotes I did not pick up from Extremely Loud.
I had such a hard time quoting History of Love because I was afraid to give it away!!!

  9. Bev Hankins says:

Loving all the quotes that everyone is posting for Top Ten Tuesday! Great list! Here's mine: http://myreadersblock.blogspot.com/2010/09/top-ten-tuesday_21.html

  10. I remember really liking ELIC. I see lots of us are including quotes from there.

    Here's mine: http://www.readerbuzz.blogspot.com

  11. Gorgeous quotes – what a great idea!

    Two of my favorites are:

Little by little, one travels far. – J.R.R. Tolkien

    And..

"Once, in my father's bookshop, I heard a regular customer say that few things leave a deeper mark on a reader than the first book that finds its way into his heart. Those first images, the echo of the words we think we have left behind, accompany us throughout our lives and sculpt a palace in our memory to which, sooner or later-no matter how many books we read, how many worlds we discover, or how much we learn or forget-we will return. – Carlos Ruiz Zafon in Shadow of the Wind

  12. Thanks for dropping by! I'm amazed but I don't actually recognize that quote from P&P…and it's one of my favorite Austens!

Also if you liked Uglies, you should read Pretties & Specials if you have the chance. Uglies is still my favorite but I really like how he structured the series around Tally's transformations – and the end of Specials might surprise you πŸ™‚

  13. thebookfairyhaven says:

Number 8 is definitely my favourite and for very obvious reasons! And after reading the quote from Love is a Mix Tape, I am now going to try and get my hands on a copy.

  14. Kayla + Cyna says:

awww, I love 7 and of course, 8. It is kind of funny how we all wound up with different P&P quotes, huh? There's so much win in that book, lol.

  15. I love "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" and "The History of Love". It's funny how two of my favorite reads from last year were written by a couple.

  16. Great P&P quote. And so apropos for book blogs πŸ™‚

  17. You could have shared more and I would have continued to read!!! I loved them, how amazing!!! Maybe you'll share more in the future!

I'm a new follower by the way, and it's nice to meet you around the blog!! Feel free to stop by my blog and say hi if you'd like πŸ™‚

  18. I almost included that quote from Love is a Mix Tape!
