Book Spine Poetry Mini-Challenge #1

This was soooo fun. I didn’t think I was going to be good at it (maybe I’m not..but I’m happy with what I wrote) but now I want to keep doing them!! Very addictive!

Pretty much this poem is me right now if I’m honest. I’m in the middle of some major winter blahs and some personal setbacks and I just….yeah. This poem pretty much explains how I feel.

Alexa and Katelyn created a very fun community event for book bloggers , the Loveathon, as a way to get out and meet new bloggers, participate in mini-challenges, just have fun and spread the love! I’m going to try to participate in it this year because it seems like a lot of fun! 🙂 I’m going to be putting all of my posts into one post!

 Mad Libs – Mini Challenge #3

So very fun and silly this was!!

One day, I was dancing with Adam (If I Stay). Out of the blue, a unicorn came out of nowhere! It was so shiny, majestical and unicorn-y. At first, we were afraid, we were petrified, but we prevailed. We hopped on the motorcycle to make our getaway.

As we escaped, we turned up the radio because On Top Of The World came on and made me shimmy. Everything was extremely smooth sailing until an snake appeared in the middle of the road. We swerved to avoid it, but while Adam stayed on the motorcycle, I got thrown onto my side in the woods.

I couldn’t get up, and felt dizzy as I lay there staring up at the trees. What was I going to do? I heard a rumble among the leaves, and felt petrified. Surely, this was going to be my end. As my eyes fluttered shut, the last thing I saw was a head of brown hair and green eyes.

When I woke up again, I was on a bed. My body hurt a whole lot less, and I could sit up. There was a book and claw foot tub in the room, along with Nutella and water. The door suddenly opened to reveal St. Clair, a concerned look on his face. I blushed and averted my gaze, but he smolder-stared and said, “Don’t be shy. It’s okay.”

He came over to sit by me, and we started talking after I told him my name. We chatted about traveling , reading and Pilates and realized we had a ton in common! I thought he was perfect and couldn’t help feeling a little swoony.

Just as he reached out for my hand, the door crashed open and in came Levi (Fangirl). “Don’t let him charm you away, my love!” He yelled, running at St. Clair. They each had spatuala in their hands and began to fight. “Stop!”, I yelled, feeling so CONFUSED. They didn’t listen to me. Before I could intervene, St. Clair fell to the floor and disappeared in a cloud of smoke.

“What was that?” I asked, staring at the empty space. Levi dropped his weapon, and came over to me. “Magic, but you are safe now, sugar-bottom (haha I’m dying because this is a fake pet name Will and I jokingly use because Sugar Bottom is a road name).” He hugged me close, and I suddenly knew that this was the real deal and not just a dream.

Just as You and I by Ingrid Michaelson (mine and Will’s wedding song) started playing in my head, I woke up. I cursed my shitty luck. Why had it only been just a dream?

Interview Questions!

1. How did you come up with your blog name?

Will always joked, we were dating at the time back in 2010 when I started my blog, about how marrying me would entail being okay with the constant turning of pages of books and “just one more minute..I have a few pages left.” I just kind of thought that and came up with the fact that my life is a perpetual turn of the pages.

2. What genre/subject matter do you read and review most on your blog?

I am a pretty eclectic reader and blogger so you’ll see just about anything on here — all genres of YA mostly and some adult books! I think my MAIN genre is contemporary YA though!

3. Name the 3 books you’re excited for in 2014!

I have a post of 10 of my most anticipated 2014 debuts and 2014 releases posts so you can check those out for a more comprehensive look. I’m going to say Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson (because she’s a fave author), Isla and the Happily Ever After (she’s a fave and omg I’ve been waiting so long) and Open Road Summer by Emory Lord (debut author, road trip and sooo reading this one soon!).

4. Where in the world are you blogging from?

Right outside of Philadelphia. Literally you can see the “welcome to Philadelphia” sign from my apartment.

5. Tell us — how did you get into blogging in the first place?

I was a really avid user of Goodreads and was into the groups function on there. I started a College Students group (because I was a college student back then when I started it in 2008) and one of the members was April from Good Books and Good Wine and that’s how I was introduced to the idea of blogging. I wanted to start a blog but didn’t think I could do it alone so I started The Broke and the Bookish with a few members from the College Students group and then within a week I was having such a good time I started this one!

6. Apart from reading, what other hobbies/interests do you have?

I love traveling!! I’m rather obsessed with music — seriously, one of my favorite things to do is just to lie down on the ground with my big ass headphones and just FEEL the music. I also love going to shows to see my favorite bands. I love trying new foods (though Will does all the cooking). I also became an aunt two years ago and watching my two nieces grow up is one of my current favorite things in life. I also really love watching movies — like really weird, obscure movies. And French films. Love my French films.

7. If you were stuck on a deserted island, which books would you bring with you?

I’d bring the Harry Potter series because, if you’ve read this blog you know I’ve only read book 1 finally last year, and I feel like I shouldn’t die on that deserted island without experiencing all of Harry Potter!

8. If you were stuck in some dangerous situation (like a fire, a sinking ship, a warzone), which book boy or girl would you want to come and save you?

Probably Katniss! Girl has seen it all and been through it all and she’s so resourceful that I know she’d save me. As much as I would want a hot fictional man to do it..I would totally trust Katniss with my life!

9. You’re attending a party with your friends. Suddenly, the DJ changes the song and it’s YOUR song – what song would that be?

Hahha oh boy. It would depend on WHO I was with and if I was wanting to dance or just sing loudly and obnoxiously. If we were going NOW and I wanted to dance? Anything Pitbull. I always want to dance to his songs. Also “I’m Sexy and I Know It.” If I was out and wanting to obnoxiously sing? Anything Meatloaf! Or Living On A Prayer by Bon Jovi. All my answers are hilarious if you know my typical musical taste because it’s all indie rock/pop/alternative kind of stuff. But I love my classics and dammit I love that Pitbull!

10. What 3 movies would you love to have your favorite author write into books, or vice versa?

I’d love my favorite movie Amelie to be a book! I also just watched Like Crazy and I think I would love that as a book. And to change it up…I’d love for Love and Other Perishable Items to be turned into a film — it would totally be a quirky, indie flick with obscure actors…I just feel it!

    HAH your answer to #7. No you can’t die without experiencing all of Harry Potter. Just wait… the books get infinitely better with each sequel. And Katniss is a pretty good savior although Haymitch won’t be rallying sponsors from the Capital to send little pods of help! Womp Womp. 🙂

    Really fun reading all your answers especially to the first question. I LOVE your blog name so it was really interesting to read how it came to be. I would definitely say contemporary YA is also my favourite genre. I think I would be lying if I said otherwise because I read so much of it! Definitely waiting on Isla as well and Since You’ve Been Gone. I still can’t say that title without wanting to sing the Kelly Clarkson song. Yay, I love travelling, music and trying new foods as well! And while I haven’t watched many french films, I did watch Les Choristes and it’s been one of my favourite films so that kinda counts? 🙂 Yes, you should definitely bring HP with you if you’re stuck on a deserted island. Would past time AND offer tons of entertainment. And Katniss would be my top choice as well. I would bring her with me to the deserted island as well!

      Thank you! I like my blog name but then kind of felt like it was limiting this past year. SO I added the tagline “turning the pages of books and life” so I didn’t feel so bad talking about other stuff!

      I ALSO CANNOT SEE THAT BOOK WITHOUT THINKING OF THAT SONG!!

      My experience with music probably would make people think I’m weird but WHO CARES. haha. I have a playlist for all moods I have. And I just sometimes do NOTHING, like I said, except lay on the ground and listen to music. I need to feel it and just experience it. It’s so easy to let it be background noise when I’m doing other things so sometimes I just need to do that. Helps calm me too.

      Listen to TIMBER! (and really all his other ones). They are fun dancing songs! Don’t know what he is saying allt he time but DANCE AWAY!

      Also, when it comes to your interview, I LOVED it! I haven’t read Harry Potter yet (which by the way is the most embarrassing thing ever and I feel like I’ve had to admit to it A LOT lately) but I just know I would love that series! If I were stranded on an island I would definitely want to take along something to read that I want to experience over and over 🙂

    I LOVE BON JOVI!

    Livin’ On a Prayer is my absolute FAVORITE song of his and I also obnoxiously sing it whenever possible, especially when I saw him in concert back in 2005 during the Have a Nice Day tour. I have to thank my mother, who passed away in 2001, for instilling me with a great appreciation for his music. Without her undying love for Bon Jovi, I would have never discovered Bon Jovi and alternately found my passion for 80s glam rock. Bed of Roses was her favorite song and it never fails to make me cry.

    Jamie, I love your blog name and it was so fun to read how you started blogging. You’ve been blogging for so long and you are so well known (and I’m sure an inspiration for many. To me you definitely are!), but of course there was a time when you were new to blogging too.
    I’m happy you’re reading the Harry Potter books because I feel everyone should experience these books, but I’m sure it’s a daunting task. Every Potterhead pushing you to read it so you have all these expectations! On the other hand, I would love to swap places with you and read Harry Potter for the first time again.

    I love your Book Spine poem! I totally feel you on that one!
    Your interview was so funny. I loved all your tibits. I live outside of Philly too, but it was so funny when you said you can read the sign from your apartment. That had me cracking up. I also totally get what you mean by lying on the ground and just feeling the music. Music is another huge thing I love outside of books. I also loved how you’d bring the HP books with you to a deserted island. Hopefully you finish reading them all. I’m a huge HP fan so I try and push them onto everyone who hasn’t read them 😉 Thanks for sharing!
