Another Top Ten Tuesday — as hosted by my other blog The Broke and the Bookish!
This week it’s all about books to read in a day! There are a few reasons that, in the event that I HAD a free day, that I’d read a book in a day…because either it’s really short or because it’s so beyond captivating that you just can’t bear to put it down. When I was unemployed for a summer I read SO many different books in the span of a day because I’d lay out and read all day. It was fabulous.
So here’s a list of books that I either read in a day or I think, if you had a full 24 hours to do nothing, would be so worth reading all the way through.
Sleeping, eating and showering are completely optional.
1. If I Stay by Gayle Forman: I read this in a span of 4 hours while Will alternated between napping and playing playstation. It was the ultimate lazy day and I snapped at him a few times for trying to interrupt me. This book leaves you with this insatiable desire to KNOW what Mia chooses and it’s one rollercoaster of a ride that I experienced in that 4 hours.
2. Wither by Lauren DeStefano: After the fabulous Steph Su so kindly gave this to me, I immediately went home and did nothing until the wee hours in the morning until I finished this book. The world and Rhine’s story just sucked me in.
3. The Lover’s Dictionary by David Levithan: This is such a quick book and I read it while lounging outside one summer day. The prose is so beautiful that it’s hard not to get sucked in. I wouldn’t say it’s a pageturner but can be easily read in one day.
4. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins: I read this for Dewey’s Readathon (the original one!) and it was around 11pm that I started this one after finishing another one. THANK GOD this was so thrilling or else I would have never stayed up that night.
5. The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting: These books are just really addictive mysteries. The writing is straight to the point and the author is SO good at revealing the perfect amount that keeps you going and going. I read it in one afternoon on a snow day and it was such a quick read because I needed to find out who the killer was!
6. You Are My Only by Beth Kephart: This one was pretty slim so that made it easy to read in one day but you also really want to know what happens to the main characters that you can’t help but keep reading.
7. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin: While Mara Dyer and I had a complicated relationship, I can’t deny the fact that I read this all in a sitting. I had just gotten home from BEA with this book in tow and, rather than sleep or organize my newly acquired books, I sat down read this. WHAT a page turner..that’s for sure!
8. Night by Elie Wiesel: This book is really short and thus that’s why it’s on my list. You almost need to read this in a day because it takes you another full day to decompress from the experience. I couldn’t read anything for another day because I felt like everything else was so insignificant after what I just read that I didn’t feel right.
9. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins: I didn’t actually read this in a day but if I would have had the free time..I could have easily let myself get whisked away in Anna’s adventure and just have gotten lost with St. Clair. It’s one of those books where I cursed the day I became a grownup because I actually had to go to bed so I could wake up for work and NOT look like a zombie the next day. Work tends to frown upon that sort of stuff.
10. Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris: I have a feeling all the books in this series would be pretty easy to read in one day. I was home sick one day and wanted something that would be quick to read and would keep my attention while I felt like death. Nothing like vampires to do the trick. I haven’t gotten beyond book 2 in the series but that’s because I’m an epic failure when it comes to series with a ton of books already out that I don’t already own. I smell a sick day coming up soon!
What about you? What books have you read in a day or do you think are so mindnumbing thrilling that they could be EASILY read in a day? I’m always looking for books like that when I have huge blocks of time to read!

AHH! Yes! BTW, if you liked the creepiness of The Body Finder, you should definitely pick up I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga. It is soooo good. 🙂 xo -S

I can’t believe I forgot Wither!
I love the Sookie Stackhouse series. All the books are quick reads. My favourite is book four. There are 7 and 8 book box sets out now.

I feel like I probably forgot some really excellent books too! lol. I might have to continue on with the Sookie series…I foresee a trip to the library in my future. I’m down for quick reads!

I am actually reading Dead Until Dark right now. I can honestly say that I hate to put it down. It’s sooo good. Hopefully I can make it through the whole series.
I work all the time so I hardly ever get the time to read books in one sitting. The most recent book I have read in one sitting was Beneath a Meth Moon by Jacqueline Woodson. Others have been Jurassic Park (read it in high school) and Sunday’s at Tiffany’s by James Patterson (read this on a plane).

You’ve got some great books on here! I included The Hunger Games and Where She Went, but Catching Fire and If I Stay could have made the list, too. And I probably should have added Anna and the French Kiss, but I think that book shows up on all my TTT lists haha! I’ll be checking out a few on here that I haven’t read, even though there is no end in sight for my TBR pile.

Oh, I loved Anna and the French Kiss! Le sigh…. I’m pretty sure it only took me a few days to read it too. Such a good one. Was Catching Fire your favorite of the three HG books? It was my favorite and I always feel like the only one who liked it the best 🙂

I was this close to putting Mara Dyer on my list. If I had done entirely YA, it definitely would have made it. According to Goodreads, it’s the longest book I’ve read this year, yet my friend and I both read the same copy in the same day. It reads incredibly quickly!

But I really want to start “The Hunger Games”. I don’t want to jump the band wagon but they sound pretty good!

Oooh.. I’m glad to hear The Body Finder is a quick read. I’ve been meaning to read it for a while now and Derting will be here signing at the end of the month, so I need to work it in soon!

I had to laugh at number 10…I read EIGHT of the Sookie Stackhouse books on a cruise last May! I hesitated on reading the last two that are out because I couldn’t immediately pick up the next one.

The Lover’s Dictionary is actually one of the books I’ve managed to read in a day. I love the way it’s written though, because it’s genius. And it’s so beautifully and uniquely done.
