This week’s topic: Top Ten Books I’d Love For Santa To Bring
I’m going with books that I’ve been wanting to read but just don’t own yet or haven’t gone to the library for! Santa, I’d also happily take gift cards or my own library if you think I’ve been an extra good bookworm this year!
1. Attachments by Rainbow Rowell: It’s no secret I LOVE Rainbow Rowell. She was a big discovery for me this year and became one of my favorite authors after reading Eleanor & Park and Fangirl. I NEED this one while I want for Landline which is on my list of 10 most anticipated books for 2014. It’s an adult novel, I’ve heard excellent things about it and it seems like a me book! 2. Winger by Andrew Smith: When I spoke about the list of books I feel like slipped under my radar this year, Winger made the list and lots of people on Twitter and in the comments said OH MY GOSH YOU HAVE TO READ THIS. So, Santa, make the people happy! (Find on Goodreads)
3. Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter: This is an adult book that I’ve been wanting to read for a while but after Lauren from Random House shared it as one of her top reads of 2013 in my round-up of publishing folk’s favorite reads this year I knew I HAD to get to it sooner rather than later. 4. Someday, Someday Maybe by Lauren Graham: I had been over the moon to find out one of my favorite actresses (Gilmore Girls/Parenthood) was writing a novel and that it came out this year! However, I haven’t been able to get my hands on this just yet. Very long wait at the library plus being on a book buying ban due to my unemployment situation made for me not to read this book quite yet so come on SANTA…get on it. And bring me the entire box set of Gilmore Girls while you are at it. (Find on Goodreads)
5. Saving June by Hannah Harrington: I finally read Speechless by Hannah Harrington this year as it was one of our book club picks in 2013. I really liked it and have heard that Saving June was even BETTER so now I need to get myself this one. (Find on Goodreads)
6. The Chocolate Thief by Laura Florand: I really want to read this one now that I’ve delved into the world of adult romances this year. The lovely lady behind Chachic’s Book Nook has been raving about this one and thinks I would like it and it looks so CUTE plus PARIS. (Find on Goodreads)
7. Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta: I have FINALLY read Melina Marchetta’s Jellicoe Road and OMG…I think my insides are still wound up from that one. I think about that book and I want to bawl. Santa needs to bring this one (and its companion novel The Piper’s Son) because 2014 WILL be the year that I read more of Melina Marchetta. I already know she’s going to be favorite author based on one book. (Find on Goodreads)
8. Aristotle and Dante Discover The Secrets of The Universe: Margot told me I HAD to read this book and I’ve had a few other people tell me it’s a Jamie book so I must listen! I know absolutely nothing about it! (Find on Goodreads)
9. A Little Wanting Song by Cath Crowley: Man, the Aussies really know how to steal my heart. I finally read Graffiti Moon and I NEED this one because Trish Doller says it is one of her favorites and well Trish Doller is one of my favorite authors. (Find on Goodreads)
10. Sever by Lauren DeStefano: We all know how much I suck at series and how embarrassing my unfinished series number is (it’s probably even grown since then) so Santa needs to bring me this one because I’ve yet to finish this trilogy and I’d like to! I’m nervous though. I am. (Find on Goodreads)

I loved Someday, Someday Maybe! So cute! (Also, I still need the last season of Gilmore Girls, but since I pretty much hated that season, I’ve refused to buy it).
And Attachments might actually be my favorite of Rowel’s books. Get on it!

I loved Attachments, it was my first Rowell novel and it was just cute and fantastic, I couldn’t put it down xD
I’ve been meaning to read Beautiful Ruins but yeah, haven’t gotten around to it yet. Maybe in the new year?

Attachments is my favourite of Rainbow Rowell’s novels, so I was extremely excited to see it on your wishlist! The unique format and absolutely wonderful characters meant that is was easily one of the most memorable books I read in 2013 and I have every intention of re-reading it and reviewing it in 2014. Rainbow was also kind enough to sign an extra copy for me when I met her back in October, so I’m looking forward to being able to give that away in the new year, too! 😀
I was also really excited to see Saving June on your list! I have an indisputable weakness for stories that centre around a roadtrip like Jessi Kirby’s In Honor and Morgan Matson’s Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour, so I decided to read Saving June back in 2012 when I was beginning to run out of stories in the same vein. And I’m so happy I did! It’s a little more sombre than the two aforementioned novels, but undeniably beautiful and I still regularly think about it almost two years after reading it. I think it’s definitely a ‘Jamie Book’ and I would love to hear what you thought of it. That’s a review I’ll definitely be looking forward to (And now I’m contemplating a re-read of this, too)

Attachments is also on my Christmas list for this year, and thanks to a fatal flaw made by my sister (I told her I was reading/owned Fangirl and she realized she got the wrong Rowell book 😉 I think I’m getting it! I can’t wait to absorb it like a sponge. I just read Fangirl and fell even further in love with her!

I read Beautiful Ruins earlier this year and thought it was solid, but there was a little bit of… flatness. That being said, I am a sucker for Italy and the cover alone is amazing.

Brilliant list Jamie. I’m currently reading Fever by Lauren Destefano and I’m loving it! I really enjoyed Attachments, but I think my favourite Rainbow Rowell book is Eleanor & Park. I keep seeing Beautiful Ruins around blogs. I think that’s a sign I should add it to my TBR list!

Anyway, onto your list! Sadly, I’ve only read Saving June but I can totes see why you want it, it is SO GOOD and SO worth having a copy of! I’m dying to own a book by Rainbow Rowell, because the inside AND outside are great. I love the cover for Winger! This is a fab list, Jamie! I hope you get at least some of these for Christmas 🙂

I have an e-ARC of Someday, Someday Maybe, but I haven’t read it yet. I’m ashamed to say that I haven’t read a book by Rainbow Rowell yet, though I’m planning on reading Fangirl very soon! Great list! 😀

Your list reminds me that I still have to read Sever as well, so you can see, I suck at series too. I even already started Lauren DeStefano’s newest series & didn’t even think twice if maybe I should finish her other first. Ugh, series. If Santa doesn’t gift it to me this year I will have to get it myself soon. I need to finish this series, even though I’m a little scared to know how it’s all going to end.
I need to get myself a copy of Attachments too (or maybe Santa’s reading these comments?)! I just finished Fangirl and I LOVE it. I need more Rainbow Rowell!

I’m glad to see Lauren Graham’s book popping up on some lists! I read an ARC of it a little bit before it came out and it was fantastic! Someone told me, too, that it is partially biographical, which made it that much more fun to read.

Attachments made my list too because I read it on library loan and it ended up being my FAVORITE BOOK THAT I READ THIS YEAR!!!! So I def need it from Santa, right????

Oh my gosh Jamie, I really do think you would love Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. It’s a beautiful, quiet story, and having read your blog for a year and knowing how much you love writers like Rainbow Rowell and John Green, I really do think you’d love it. It’s hard for me to be objective because it’s one of my all-time favorite books, but YES it is a beautiful, beautiful book.
Attachments is also on my list–for some reason, it’s not in stores ANYWHERE around here, so if I get it it’ll have to be online. I’m a huge Gilmore Girls fan and really enjoyed Someday, Someday Maybe. It was cute and funny at times but also a lot of self-discovery and trying to find your place in the world which I related to. . . a lot.

Saving June is FANTASTIC! Definitely make that a priority. I think it is your kind of book. And A Little Wanting Song is really really great. Definitely that one. Oh and Saving Francesca. That one too. 😉

I just read Laura Florand like 2 weeks ago for the first time. The Chocolate Thief IS cute but if you want to try her out quickly, she has a contemporary novella that is oh SO good. Hmm, I daresay I even liked the novella, Snow-Kissed, more than The Chocolate Thief. I also *need* to get to A Little Wanting Song because I LOVED Graffiti Moon.

Someday, Someday Maybe has been everywhere this year. I guess I need to get on that one! (And I really do love me some Parenthood.)
I have to say, I was disappointed by Beautiful Ruins, but that might also be because I had heard so much hype about it. I have friends that loved it, so I’d be interested to learn what you think after you read it!

I read Saving June last week and I LOVED it. I haven’t read Speechless yet, but it’s right towards the top of my TBR list. Same for Attachments, which I also hear great things about. Beautiful Ruins was a lot different than I expected, but I really liked it.

I definitely want to read Attachments and I’m pretty curious about Winger. I read Fangirl this year and fell in love with Rainbow Rowell’s writing style. I have yet to read Eleanor & Park but I own it so hopefully I’ll get to it soon. I really like Lauren DeStefano’s Chemical Garden series. I just finished her new book, Perfect Ruin, though and was kind of disappointed. 🙁 I hope Santa brings you all these books!

I’ve already seen Attachments on two lists today, not including mine! I feel like everyone wants to read this one now after E&P and Fangirl! I’m with you on Someday, Someday Maybe. I was so excited about this one because I love Lauren Graham oh so much but just haven’t made time to read it! And Saving Francesca… omg you will love this one. I read it a couple years ago – was my first of her books – and reviewing it was one of the hardest/most touching reviews I’ve written. Mostly because it was one of the most touching books I’ve read! Merry Christmas to you and here’s hoping Santa is very good to you this year! 🙂

Everybody (like me) has Winger for very good reason. I started the ARC I have and wow, I love it so far! Let’s hope Santa leaves these books under your tree. ;D

That is such a cool picture. I love the layout. My sister and I challenged each other to read 5 books we picked out for each other in 2014. Someday, Someday Maybe was one of the books she picked for me. I will be reading that novel in 2014. We recently purchased Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell and I hope to enjoy that book and a few more of Rowell’s in the upcoming year. I have enjoyed following your blog over the past year. If you are a fan of audiobooks, Lauren Graham does an AMAZING job narrating her book. I loved reviewing it for one of the journals I review for this past summer. It is such a great book!

At the risk of sounding like a jerk, I would say go for any of them but Sever. That book induced my rage like whoa. The writing’s pretty consistent with Wither if you liked that, but the series goes into purity in a lot of unhealthy and illogical ways. So yeah. Library that one would be my recommendation.

I vote ATTACHMENTS because you can never go wrong with Rainbow Rowell!!!! And as a second I vote SAVING FRANCESCA because (it was on sale yesterday idk if it still is) and its Melina Marchetta! so….. yes <3

There are definitely some surprises in Sever, but I thought it was much better than Fever. It helped to explain some of the odd things that happened in Fever and tied up a lot of loose ends. Hopefully Santa brought some of the books you were hoping for.

Attachments was absolutely wonderful. As soon as I finished it I contacted me three closest bookworm friends and told them to read it immediately! I’m a little older so this was my favorite Rainbow Rowell novel to date.
