1. My wrist finally healed: OMG IT FELT LIKE IT TOOK SO LONG. But it’s feeling pretty good and I’ve eased back into all my planks and mountain climbers and burpees…..and am pretty much wanting to die because I haven’t done them in a month or two but am SO SO grateful for my healthy wrists!!!

1. I injured my wrist  Gah this was a major bummer of the month. I strained my wrist when I was stretching it a little too far in the beginning of the month and it just pretty much hasn’t been back to normal. It was feeling better and then I was a dum dum and thought I could get back to doing Pilates and some of my more wrist intense HIIT moves and NOPE..made it hurt. I talked about it in this post but it’s been really hard because 1) I had been so pumped with my fitness goals and as much as I’ve tried to modify my workouts to not include any exercises that put weight on my wrist it’s just been frustrating. Plus I have had to limit my blogging/computer time and oh my god it even had hurt to use my hand to write with a pen and paper. It’s not really hurting much anymore but I’m going to still take it easy and ease back into wrist type exercises. Plus we had to miss our planned skiing trip!

1. I’m super energized by the new year:  I know it’s just an arbitrary date and I can renew my goals and dreams and aspirations any day of the year but I’ve said it before…it just energizes me. This month was one of the best in terms of me and my goals. I was an absolute beast when it came to my fitness goals and I feel great. Plus some of my other goals are going well too. I just feel ready to tackle ALL THE THINGS. Hoping this momentum will continue.

1. I really enjoyed some time off from the blog before the holidays:  I try to scale down a bit in December just for some R&R and to get my head straight for the next year. And plus, every year traffic and interaction goes down during this month especially around this time. Last year I decided to do my A Very Handmade Holiday series with spotlights and giveaways for bookish Etsy shops and businesses. It still gave me content but it was easy to set those up ahead of time and not spend the week leading up posting other stuff that probably won’t really be read. I did it again this year and I really enjoyed the time off while still having some amazing giveaways and spotlights of great businesses and talent.

2. I continued on with Harry Potter — I read book 1 last year and I finally decided it was high time to continue so this month I read book 2 and some of book 3 but didn’t finish it before the new year. So ready to continue on!!

3. ALL OF THE CHRISTMAS PARTIES AND GATHERINGS: I had some really great holiday parties to make the season even better! We had my book club holiday party which was so fun! Will’s work Christmas party which was fun but errrrm somebody that runs this blog may have drank a little too much and spent the next day puking…like literally until 7pm. NOT MY FINEST MOMENT OKAY. I had a party two days after that and couldn’t even look at alcohol so at least I learn. Then I had a Christmas party with some new lady friends and it was really great to hang with them! Plus our Christmas Eve and Christmas Day plans were with family and were a good time as well! Felt really overjoyed to look at the great people in my life and spend time with them!

4. Had a really fun and chill New Year’s Eve with friends– We did hibachi with our friends and then one couple came back for a sleepover in which we wore onesies (because we are bonafide adults, y’all), drank beer, ate yummy snacks, played card games and just laughed a whole lot. Fun way to ring in the new year!!

IMG_9284

5. Will and I got our new camera we ordered on Black Friday: We got a really good bundle deal for a Canon Rebel T6i, a nice lens and a huge ass printer. No literally it takes up half my kitchen table. It is a monstrosity. BUT I can print out ALL THE THINGS and PICTURES OF SO MANY SIZES. Soo much of 2016 will be learning how to use it properly and maybe getting better with photography. Soooo any tips and guides and anything at all useful…let me know! Because basically I know how to turn it on. Will knows maybe 3 more things on it. WE DID figure out the self timer for family pictures on Christmas Eve so GO US.

2. Lifetime Ago — Greg Laswell

3. Monster Lead Me Home — Sara Hartman

I read a total of 10 books this month!

 25663637

1. When We Collided by Emery Lord: OMG THIS BOOK. THIS BOOOK. I know it doesn’t come out for a while so I don’t want to say too much but I freaking loved it!!! If you haven’t read Emery’s first two books you should do that before this one comes out — Open Road Summer and The Start of Me and You!

Saga Volume 1

2. Saga Volume 1: Raced to get Volume 2 because I need to know what’s going to happened next! Loving the graphic novels and comics these days!

Big Magic

3. Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear: This one was super inspirational and there were some great quotes to remember in it — at which I’ll be posting some of those at a later date!

mr5

Well, I really only had my mini-reviews and my review of (the amazing) Just Visiting by Dahlia Adler so I can’t really say I had a most popular review when I didn’t have many.

1. My whole Handmade Holiday seriesWas excited to do this again this year! I love highlighting Etsy shops and small businesses — especially when they are bookish! A couple of the giveaways are still open!

2. Reflections On Taking A Year Off From The Goodreads Numbers Based Challenge: Last year I didn’t set a number of books to read for the year and I decided to reflect on it!

3. Farewell 2015, I’m Coming For You 2016: I recapped 2015 and shared my word that will guide my resolutions and goals for 2016!

4. Best of All Things Not Books In 2015: I always love sharing my favorite albums, tv shows, movies and more!

5. Top 10 Favorite 2015 Releases : You should also check out my favorite debuts, best backlist books I read and books I think deserved more attention!

My review of this amazing book!!

mr7NOTHING.  But I haz goals for the new year….and that fancy new camera sooo.

mr11

1. What This Book Gave To MeEstelle is my book blogging soul sister because we both tend to write pretty personally about what we are reading and she’s always coming up with new ways to talk about books that aren’t actually reviews. I LOVED this post and seeing the books that taught her something this year. Desire to read all the ones I haven’t yet is STRONG.

2. Are Blog Comments Dying Out?: Really interesting read! A topic near and dear to many a bloggers heart and one I know in the book blogging world we’ve lamented. I’ve internally mulled over it when I see that posts just as good as ones a year or two ago aren’t getting even half that. It’s easy to take it as a sign that nobody is reading but it’s not true. I love what she says “the conversation hasn’t stopped..it’s just moved.”

3. 5 Questions To Ask Yourself on New Year’s…or really any day: I feel like it’s hard sometimes to focus on what you want your goals or resolutions to be but I feel like answering these questions can give one clarity. I tend to do a check in every month asking myself similar questions…but totally using these 5 questions every month!

4. Y U Unfollow Me: A good reminder! I don’t have any apps or anything anymore that tell me who unfollow me (I did for like 5 months and I obsessed over it) but every once in a while I will notice someone unfollowed me and like I know that in the grand scheme it’s not THE END OF THE WORLD but sometimes it stings and I also find myself obsessing over WHY. WHAT DID I DO? But really…my logical brain (not the one I use when I’m clearly obsessing over it) KNOWS all these things she’s saying in this post.

5. A Year of Coffee Dates (And Notes on Friendship): I loved this post from Christine! It’s a short post but holds a whole lot of wisdom and was probably more impactful than any long post I’ve ever read on friendship. “One of the things that I believe the most about friendship is that showing up is the most important thing: you just have to be there, and you have to be able to be relied upon. And that’s exactly what a year of coffee dates illustrated most clearly. More than anything, this year has reminded me just how possible things are when you’re intentional about it.” THAT LAST LINE THO…”how possible things are when you’re intentional about it.” UM YAS. I think I’m writing this all over my planner for 2016. Intentional — in friendships and in other matters!

mr8

1. Making a Murderer: YO GUYSSSS. This documentary series was infuriating and fascinating and OMG I JUST CANNOT STOP THINKING ABOUT IT.
2. Dance Academy– I binged this show in like a week and if you like contemporary YA fiction…you pretty much need to watch this show. I CANNOT EVEN TELL YOU HOW GREAT IT IS. And it killed me. SLAYED ME.
3. this pumpkin sage baked ziti: I don’t give up pumpkin just because it’s not fall anymore. And really you don’t taste the pumpkin a WOAH PUMPKIN way if you are worried about that.  This dish is delicious and exactly what I want sometimes on a cold winter night. Will and I made it 3 times this past month and by ~we~ I mean Will did and I just devoured it.

mr9

1. Winter Jam: We went last year and we will be there this year again to see Elle King and Andrew McMahon and Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats, and Coleman Hell. Although excitement really depends on the weather….PLEASE MOTHER NATURE GIVES US A FLUKE NON-COLD DAY.

2.My baby sister turning 21: FINALLY. My other sister and I have been waiting for her to turn 21 so we can corrupt her and such except all the years we waited we didn’t truly understand  that we’d be 30 (me) and 27 with kids (her) and start planning it and be like OMG WE HAVE TO GO OUT EW I HATE THE BAR SCENE I WILL BE HUNGOVER FOR A WEEK IF WE DO SHOTS AND OMG THAT IS SO LATE CAN WE DO AN EARLY DINNER AND THEN GO TO BED. But alas…we are going to try to muster up some of that 21 year old spirit and party like wild animals….maybe. We will see. TBD.
3. CHANGES: I’m not saying much…but changes are a comin’ and are in the works. It’s only been 2 years in the works (lols) but I’ve finally gotten the moxie to make the changes/it’s the right time. AND NO I AM NOT PREGNANT.

1. We had some issues with the pup:  Early in November we noticed Finn having a limp (w/ no apparent pain or slowing down of activity) when he would run (well not a full run but when he would more so trot) and we took him to the vet, they put him on anti-inflammatory meds and then he was still limping so we took him back for x-rays (which saddest thing ever..he was crying for me and scratching to get to me when she led him out) and found out that he has hip dysplasia. She didn’t recommend surgery yet so I don’t think it’s awful yet but we have to give him supplements to help with his joints and really just monitor the limp/everything he’s doing. He doesn’t act like he’s in pain at all but he probably is a little bit. Hoping we follow the vet’s plans and that it never gets too bad. Feel so bad for the little guy :(

2. I saw Mockingjay Part 2 with my book club — I really enjoyed it!! I cried quite a bit, not going to lie. So bittersweet for this franchise to be over but I truly enjoyed these movies just as much as I enjoyed the books.

3. Will and I booked our trip to Madrid and London: SO SO SO SO excited to return to London (Will has never been though) and visit Madrid for the first time (plus visit some friends who recently moved there AND had a baby last week!!). If you’ve got recs for either of those cities of MUST DO’S/SEES/EATS/DRINKS let me have them! Also maybe some of your favorite books set in either place?

4. I had two separate dates with a new group of lady friends– I got to try two new local places — one for brunch and one for an Italian dinner and both times were so fun! It’s always so hard to make new friends at this age and I’m so happy to find people again who I click with. I’m looking forward to more shenanigans with them next month.

5. I started culling my “to read” list on Goodreads: It was out of control at around 1300 books — due to being on Goodreads since 2008 and also my habit to had ANYTHING that I am even remotely interested in or want to remember or want to check out to that list. It’s been a tedious process but I feel really good about taking a first stab at weeding out books I’m not interested in anymore — whether it’s that my interests are different than from when I added it years ago or trusted friends have all disliked it or I’m just not SUPER excited about it like I was when I added it (or some I’m like WHY THE HECK DID I ADD THIS?!). There still are probably way too many books on there…more than I’ll ever read..but it’s a start to get out the obvious ones I know I’ll never get to or am 100% not interested in anymore.

“When a friendship crumbles, there are only really two things that can bring it back: a shitload of time, or a sincere apology.” — Just Visiting by Dahlia Adler
Seriously so true. I’ve seen both scenarios unfold in my own life. Sometimes time has brought us back and realizing how silly it was or realizing we missed the friendship or forgetting what we had even let our friendship fall away. I’ve reconnected recently with the best friend I had in 8th-10th grade. I don’t remember why we let differences of opinions in regards to certain high school things get in the way of our friendship (we started to be pulled in different directions) but it all seems so silly now. I know we’ll likely never be close again but I have hope we might be in each other’s lives. She was my first real friend when I moved in 8th grade and she was so important to me. And likewise with the apology….I’ve been on both sides of the giving and receiving a sincere apology and man it can do wonders. Like literally feel the hurt and anger melting away.

mr6

Ummm I really didn’t post much this month (I slow down a lot in November and December) so not much to wade through but here’s

1. The Tale of Two Warring Bookworms Within Me Bookworm problems, man!

2. Recommendations Needs From YOU: It was nice to turn the tables and ask you all for book recs — in this case I was looking for comic books and graphic novels! AND BOY DID YOU ALL HELP. I am still wading through suggestions!! Thank you!

3. Ten Book To Movie Adaptions I Want To See: Already got to check Mockingjay off that list yay!

4. Whatcha In The Mood For? Happy to provide some recs for different moods! Hope you guys found some!

5. Beyond the Pages: Insecurities Then vs Now : It was nice to reflect on insecurities as a teen vs. now at 30 — “I think one of the things I’m learning about adulthood is that certain things that you experience as a young person don’t simply disappear as you get older…you just learn to deal with them differently/better and your tools for handling it are sharper. It could also be that you just simply run out of shits to give –you only have so much you can worry or care about and something has to give. ONLY A FINITE AMOUNT OF SHITS TO BE GIVEN.”

mr12Any book talks honestly! I just want to talk about booooks with you all.

mr7NOTHING.  Will Jamie ever return? WE SHALL SEE. Maybe in the new year.

mr11

1. How To Hygge (or 29 Ways To Actually Enjoy Winter)Winter is the pits for me, guys. I get sad that the sun is out. I get miserable that the cold air assaults me as I leave my apartment. I kick my car when the door gets frozen with ice. I just miss the nice weather. Sure I love snuggling in my blankets with some hot cocoa and a book but BLAH winter just gives me major blues. SOOO I will be trying this list and forcing myself to change my attitude towards winter!

2. Now What? 5 Steps To Figuring Out What You Want To Do Next When You Don’t Have A Goddamn Clue: I just entered my 30’s in October and I feel like I *AM* at this crossroads where I’m like I don’t know at all where I want to go next. I feel like certain doors are closing and I need to rally and make a new game plan for life. Going to try some of her tips!

3. 30 Simple Ways To Take Care of Yourself Over the Holidays: I’m already looking at my calendar for December and I’m half tempted to just go curl in bed until the month is over. I’m EXCITED for all my plans and things to do but also…wow lots of peopling and being on the go. Need to remember to take care of myself — particularly because the holidays always have the tendency of making me sad (without me even really being aware that’s what it is going on) because I miss my mom.

4. Smoky Maple Chipotle Brussel Sprouts: Hey don’t judge me…brussel sprouts are DELICIOUS, YO. And these look amazing and Will is totally going to make them for us. Maybe next month I’ll get back to sharing desserts or yummy drinks…but BRUSSEL SPROUTS.

5. No emojis necessary from Write Meg!: I’ve enjoyed Meg’s blog for years and this experience she shared with connecting with a friend IRL and her reflection of friendship in the age of social media.

mr8

1. Jessica Jones: I loooooove it. Twitter is always on point with new show recs. I’m only a few episodes in but I’m so digging it.
2. Trader Joe’s Peppermint Joe Joe’s Ice Cream– I’ve been enjoying it a liiiiittle too much this month.
3. Planning our trip to Spain and England: it’s also probably why I haven’t blogged much because I just keep going down rabbit holes of SO MANY THINGS WE ARE GOING TO DO.

mr9

1. All the Christmas parties: Will’s work Christmas party, family Christmas party, book club Christmas party, Christmas party with new lady friends. ALL THE CHRISTMAS PARTIES.

 2. Slowing things down on the blog: For the past couple years I’ve slowed down on the blog to help rejuvenate before the new year, plan for what I want to do blog-wise, enjoy the time with friends and family and to conserve my energy because let’s be real…blogs have a slow time in December. It’s going to be so nice to not post very much…though I already kind of accidentally did that this past month.
3. My A Very Handmade Holiday giveaways + End of Year Survey: The 6th Annual End of Year Survey will go up this coming week and I will be back with the second year of week long giveaways from amazing bookish Etsy shops/small businesses!

1. I turned 30!!! I kind of had a meltdown about it but I’ve had about a little over 2 weeks of settling into my 30’s and I’m so okay with it. It’s been nice thus far. My actual birthday was nice — spent the day hiking with Will and Finn and then went out for dinner with family! Not quite the crazy bash I had planned initially but it was lovely.

2. We helped my sister move — They are about the same distance away but they bought their first house and I’m so happy for them! Was bittersweet because we had so many great memories there (like pre-babies & pre her and her husband being together romantically) but can’t wait to make new ones in their new house!!

3. We went to a beer fest: It was a little chilly but we had SUCH a great time trying new beers and OMG THEY HAD SO MANY PUMPKIN BEERS I WAS IN HEAVEN. We took the train and had a nice drunk walk home eating pizza like we were some college students or something — particularly great since I had just turned 30 so I was feeling all young and spunky and not like I was halfway to my grave. I mean, the next day I felt not so old and spunky but YA KNOW.

4. Will & I got involved in some volunteering with the local animal shelter– I talked about this in my If We Were Having Coffee post but after adopting Finn I just felt like I wanted to do something to help the shelter and the rescue we got Finn from so we did our first run of transporting a pit puppy from the shelter to an adoption center. Most of the transporting at the shelter is done solely by volunteers at this high kill shelter in Philly so when a dog gets rescued from the shelter or needs to be taken to receive medical treatment they need people to do that. Ever since I found the girl who gave Finn his freedom ride from the high kill shelter to the rescue we got him from, I’ve wanted to take part in giving those freedom rides.

5. My reading mojo came back PLUS I got a new Kindle: I had talked about how I barely read anything last month but this month I read almost as much as I normally do so YAY. AND my Kindle broke so Will got me a new one for my birthday. Love my new Kindle Paperwhite!

  1. A Madness So Discreet by Mindy McGinnis: Really enjoyed this historical fiction with a twist of mystery.
  2.  Brightly Woven by Alexandra Bracken: Was really craving a standalone fantasy and this totally fit the bill!
  3. Vengeance Road by Erin Bowman: WILD WILD WEST Y’ALL!

1. Whatcha In the Mood For?I’m glad that you guys like when I do these! I love having a way to rec books for specific reading moods but also a way to share books I read years ago!

2. I Value My Time: This was fun to talk through!! Bookworm problems FO SHO.

3. Ten Wishes I’d Ask A Book Genie To Grant: This one was so fun. STILL WAITING FOR THAT GENIE TO COME THROUGH.

4. What Is My Problem Lately?? Also another bookworm type problem that was nice to talk out with y’all!

5. Beyond the Pages: Musings On Internet Life : I had some feelings about internet life.

mr12My latest If We Were Having Coffee post — those are always my most popular posts which I’m always so grateful for because I LOVE catching up and also sharing what’s been on my mind lately. I felt like this time I really did have a lot on my mind, too!

1. Maple Cardamom Latte recipe Yo this looks delish!

2. Why You Should Stop Saying SHOULD: I’m so guilty of this.

3. Why We Are Lonelier Than Ever: This was a super interesting read and I would *LOVE* to know what you think. To get candid, my marriage is not failing by any means but both Will and I have expressed missing having lots of people in our lives like we used to and I know it definitely causes me to have the sads. We love hanging out together and truthfully most of the time we do PREFER each other’s company but I can tell we do get a little antsy if we don’t go out and do our own thing with friends or connect with other people together. I’m so all about us having our own things and people in addition to the shared things. We used to have a big group of friends years ago and it’s been hard on us these past few years to have only a couple people that we spend time with. Do YOU have 50 people? So very interested to hear what y’all think!

4. What If Your Job Didn’t Exist?: Alex always posts stuff I need to hear or think about at the right time!

5. How Blogging Taught Me To Be Creative Again: YAS starting my blog and maintaining it since 2010 has done a lot for me as well — including bring back some creativity to my life after I graduated college in 2008.

mr8

1. Our new spiralizer: I feel like such a boring old lady saying this but IT IS TRUE. Will makes zoodles a lot but he used something else but now we have this fancy spiralizer and it is SO COOL. We meet SWEET POTATO NOODLES in addition to our normal zucchini noodles.
2. My new lipstick– It’s a pretty raspberry pink color from Zuzu Luxe and I’m really digging the color on me. I didn’t want straight up pink and I already have a bright red and a dark reddish brown so this was perfect for something less red but not fully pink! The color is called Beso Beso in case you are wondering!
3. This recipe for thai chicken spicy peanut zucchini noodles: Definitely going into our rotation often!!

1. Thanksgiving: I loooove getting together with my family! And eating….soooo VAIR VAIR EXCITED.

 2. Leigh Bardugo coming back to Philly: Always so nice to see Leigh and can’t wait to buy Six of Crows!!! Will be fun because I haven’t been to the bookstore yet that it is at and it’s a very popular indie around the area!
3. Fun plans with new group of girl friends: Brunch and Italian dinner on the calendar!! Also fun because both are new-to-me places! And yayyyyy new girl friends. Very excited because I’ve talked about how hard it is to make friends as an adult!!!

1. Will and I got a dog!!! If you read last month’s recap or this post you know we had been looking to rescue a dog and some things fell through but OMG WE GOT A DOG AND HE IS PERFECT. His name is Finnikin (named from Finnikin of the Rock, Finn for short) and he’s so great — he’s fun and loves to play but also he is literally your perfect dog to nap next to you while you watch 7 hours of Game of Thrones (I’m not proud that happened. It was necessary though).

2. I barely read or blogged this month — No really, I read 2 books (plus parts of a dog book lol) which is the smallest amount I’ve read in a month in the past 5-6 years. And I’ve been pretty sparse here. It was half the fact we got Finn and we’ve been spending time with him and also half my binge watching seasons 2/3/most of 4 of Game of Thrones. I tried to blame my MIA-ness on solely the dog but I’m like lols okay maybe at first that was it but then the rest of the month the dog was my GoT watching buddy. I’m honestly happy I took some time off blogging and just the book community in general. I’m not a person who has to blog every day and I frequently take days off when I don’t feel like it but I don’t know…it was just a much needed break.

3. We took a trip up to my dad’s house that didn’t go so well: Finn LOVES other dogs — dogs at the dog park and dogs we see walking at our apartment complex or the walking trail we like so we didn’t think we’d have any issues with my dad’s new pup. BUUUUT they hated each other from the first second and it didn’t get any better so we ended up leaving early because it was so stressful to work to keep these dogs away from each other because they were going to kill each other. Was really bummed because I wanted to spend time up there but just too stressful and I didn’t want anyone to get hurt.

4. My stepdad got remarried– It was a really hard day (because of how we feel about her which is super complicated and also because it was just another reminder my mom is not alive…and her birthday fell on the wedding weekend) but we were supportive and tried to put on good faces (okay so some day drinking happened before the wedding to survive). The reception was really fun though and it was SOOOO nice to see family and family friends we hadn’t seen in a while.

5. I started to try running again but HAHAHA: I took Finn with me a couple times but mostly it was a fail. I really need to start running again because I’m doing a 5K on Thanksgiving and HAVE to do better than last time!! I’m suuuuch a self conscious runner which is part of the problem. The other problem is just that I hate running.

I loved this sentence so much. NEW MANTRA.

Heh well since I didn’t blog very much this month I didn’t have that much going on but here are a few good posts:

1. Exciting Thing Is Exciting My Finn story!!

2. Ten series I need to finish: This was fun to go through my series that I need to finish (which is a lot because I’m awful at finishing series) and I LOVED your feedback about which ones I definitely should get to.

3. Ten Quotes I Loved From Books I Read This Year: Yay quotes!

4. Books To Read If You Like These Super Popular Books/Authors: Nice to give maybe less well known readalikes for popular books!

5. Books I’m Planning To Read This Fall : My Fall TBR has not gone so well clearly with only reading 2 books this month!

mr12Maybe Throne of Glass Retail Therapy post?

mr7NOTHING.

mr11

1. Why Snapchat MattersI have been loooooving Snapchat so much in these past couple months! Such a fun way to add content in a VERY different way than other places I am on the interwebs. A more behind the scenes way where I don’t have to proofread or use a filter or have a perfect picture or even feel pressured to do ANYTHING other than add stuff. SO STRESS FREE. I’m brokeandbookish if you are on there.

2. Let’s Stop Pretending It’s “SO EASY” To Be Healthy: Love this!! I would say I eat healthy about 80% of the time and I *try* to work out and be active but it is a struggle every day. Not easy but worth it. I just wanted to slow clap reading this.

3. No Regrets: I read this in the midst of my lack of blogging this month and I was like YEP this is exactly how I feel. NO REGRETS. I love blogging but sometimes I push myself to devote more time to it than I truly know I want to. It’s not like I FEEL like I have to but sometimes I feel this pressure, in addition to writing posts and stuff, like I have to reply to ALL the things and I have to comment on other blogs or keep up enough on Twitter or people will think I’m rude. I’m not. AT ALL. I want to community-oriented and appreciative to my readers…but I also want to have a life outside this computer and this online world. It’s a hard balance to find for me — being part of the community in the way that I want to but also not spending MORE time than I want to devote to this. It’s only a sliver of my life and sometimes I think I give it too much of my time. I’ve definitely reevaluated my Twitter usage and I have zero regrets about spending less time. Just need to find a time allotment to this hobby that makes me happy and makes me have NO REGRETS.

4. How To Love Your Work….Even When You Don’t Love Your Work: I feel like I have struggled with this a lot so definitely keeping these tips!

5. Why Experience Still Matters: Found this really interesting and mirroring some of my own thoughts lately.

mr8

1. GAMES OF THRONES: I know that was my obsession last month but I had only watched the first season. This month I watched the second, third and more than half of the fourth (I’m on episode 8 in that season right now) sooooo the obsession is real right now. I am devastated about some things that happened and OMG THE RED WEDDING WHY DID SOMEBODY NOT WARN ME I WOULD NEVER BE THE SAME AFTER THAT. Some of my faves: my Khaleesi, Tyrion, Arya and Jon Snow! Pretty much love all the Starks though! SO HAPPY THAT A CERTAIN AWFUL CHARACTER IS DEAD NOW THO. LOLS ALL AROUND.
2. PUMPKIN PIE COOKIE BUTTER FROM TRADER JOE’S– Oh my god you have no idea! I love the regular
 IMG_85740
3. My sister’s new puppy: Really I am just obsessed with ALL OF THE DOGS (my own very much included) but my sister’s puppy is just darling. Speaking of dogs I’ve been looking at volunteer options at the local rescue.

1. My birthday: Soooo I am half looking forward to it and half not. I’m turning 30. I’m having a slight breakdown about this even though logically I know it’s just a number but OMG I AM GOING TO BE 30. I feel like I enjoyed my 20’s as up and down as they were. I KNOW 30 IS NOT OLD BUT I ALWAYS THOUGHT WHEN I WAS 30 I WOULD BE A LEGIT ADULT.

 2. FALL THINGS: As much as I cry every time summer ends, Fall is my 2nd favorite season and I love all the things about fall minus the dropping temperatures.
3. New Børns album: Very very excited for their new album!!

mr12

What’s your favorite thing about Fall? Also, do you like to read certain types of books or *a* certain book in the fall?

1. Will and I started looking for a dog One day I’m just like LET’S JUST GO VISIT THE PUPPIES and the next day we are seriously looking for one. We put in an application for a 3 month old Staffordshire puppy at the shelter and then they called our leasing office (we thought the dog met the weight requirements and all) and they denied us and said we couldn’t have a Staffordshire because of breed restrictions and apparently they have some pit bull blood in them. I was so upset. We loved this dog. He was so sweet. I think breed restrictions are such crap and of course all the sweet dogs we fall in love with are that breed. So we are still looking..hoping we will find a dog to come home with us!

2. Will and I celebrated 3 years of marriage — I can’t believe it’s been 3 years but also it feels like we’ve been married way longer because we’ve been together since January 2007. We ate in Center City at one of our favorite places and indulged in donuts and ice cream and just generally walked around enjoying the beautiful weather.

3. We saw Matt and Kim, Atlas Genius, Saint Motel and Wolf Alice.: Another fun concert series!!

4. We tried a new local brewery– We went to a brewery that is basically right in our backyard (Conshhocken Brewery) and we loved it! I can’t believe it took us this long to go. It was really cool though because a bike trail is right behind it and soooo many people riding on the trail would stop for beers. MY KIND OF PEOPLE. Exercise followed by beer.

5. Will and I are starting the process of looking at houses: We are in the very very early looking stages and starting to figure out our range, what we want/where we want and need to inquire about loans and mortgages and all that crap BUT it’s starting. Any tips are welcome!!!

I read 8 book this month!

1. The Summer of Chasing Mermaids by Sarah Ockler — I really enjoyed this one so much which made me happy because I’ve enjoyed this author’s past books but didn’t have good success with her most recent one before this.
2. Happiness For Beginners by Katherine Center: I read this book at just the right time when I needed to! It’s an adult fiction book and I highly recommend.
3. Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas: Best book I read all month and probably all year to be honest. Everything I had been hoping for and more.

“When one dream burns to ash, you don’t crumble beneath it. You get on your hands and knees, and you sift through those ashes until you find the very last ember, the very last spark. Then you breathe. You breathe. You fucking breathe. And you make a new fire.” — The Summer of Chasing Mermaids by Sarah Ockler

I loved this and it is kind of my new mantra when things aren’t working out.

mr6

1. Perception, Reality & Our Super Reader CommunityI really really loved hearing your thoughts on this!! It was also really nice to hear from authors on Twitter and for them to (sadly) confirm a lot of what I’ve been thinking.

2. If We Were Having Coffee: Love getting to catch up with you guys!!

3. Retail Therapy: In Need of Cute Mugs: OMG I AM GOING MUG CRAZY.

4. Aussie YA 101: I love talking about the Australian books I love and I’m glad so many of you found recs!

5. Authors On My Auto-Buy list: I’ve realized I have a lot of auto-buy authors…good thing they don’t all publish books at the same time!! EEP.

mr12My Whatcha In The Mood For? post! The first one of these I ever did got a lot of great feedback and I LOVED that people were posting their own recommendations for the categories because I thought it might be helpful! But each month it’s gotten less and less and this month was really sad! I LOVE doing these posts so I won’t stop but I really was hopeful it could be interactive where people could help others out with recommendations in the comments as well.

mr7

I actually DID get my butt in gear this month! I filmed a video about what I’ve been reading, a tag video and a book haul (which you can also find here if you don’t do videos).

mr11

1. Why I Do Not Use Social Media AnymoreI thought this was interesting! While I definitely am not to the point where I want to give it up, because it DOES (well Twitter at least) add to my life in positive ways, I have cut back A LOT for the same reasons she talks about. Social media is great but I’ve realized being on it as much as I used to is not how I want to spend my days. I also loved her post The Phone People…something I’ve noticed before as well and found equally as distressing.

2. The Answer To Where Do You Get Your Time: Love this! I feel like people ask me a lot about where I get the time to read so much as well as blog about it and this is how I feel, too!

3. Slow Cooker Mango Salsa Chicken Burritos: Made them since bookmarking that post and YUM. And YES….Will cooks 99% of the time but your girl actuaaaaally made these. Heh well the slow cooker did but DETAILS.

4. 32 and growing up; what I know so far: I really enjoy this blog and I just liked the lessons she shared and found myself really agreeing with them as I’m approaching 30 this fall.

5. Why I Scrapped My Bucket List: I am a big fan of the bucket list but I REALLY liked this post. I liked her question: “If I truly only had 6-12 months left of my life, how do I want to spend that time? What could I realistically achieve in that time, that I would totally regret not doing? If I had one wild, final fling with life, how could I life it to the fullest?”

mr8

1. Looking for dogs at the shelter: No like it has turned into an obsession. I can’t start my day without looking at all the dogs on the website to search for shelter dogs. Will and I send new arrivals to each other all the time. ONE OF THESE DOGS WILL WORK OUT.
2. Bookworm Boutique – This shop….TAKE ALL MY MONEY.
3. Game of Thrones: I started finally watching the show and I’m pretty addicted. I still can’t decide if I should read the books. GAH.

mr9

1. The last block party concert of the year: Panic! At the Disco, Joywave, The Wombats, The Front Bottoms + Good Old War.

 2. Visiting my dad: Will and I are taking a few days to go stay at my dad’s and I’m REALLY looking forward to it!
3. New album from CHVRCHES: Very very excited!

1. I went on a road trip to Michigan: I was so happy that it worked out that Will and I could road trip to see my girl Tara, one of my original book blogging buddies from back when I started, and I got to see my other bffs I met through blogging Anna and Ginger (who I actually have never met in these 5 years since we’ve known each other!!). Tara was a beautiful bride and it was a super fun wedding. Will and I explored Grand Rapids a bit (lots of foodie adventures) and it was soooo nice to spend time with some of my favorite people and have Will FINALLY meet people who are so important to me.

2. Went on a week long vacation to the beach with my family — My stepdad’s family is HUGE and every other year we rent 3 beach houses and hang out together all week and eat soooo much food. I’m typing this the day we got back from vacation and I have to tell you I cannot fit into my clothes the way I did pre-vacation. We end the week with a crab feast with even more extended family and it’s just a really fun week!

3. I found a Little Free Library really close to me: I was so excited to find a nearby Little Free Library but I got talking to the lady who owns that particular one and the experience really reminded me why I do all this.

4. I had a really big reading slump in the beginning to half of the month– I just didn’t feel like reading at ALL so I didn’t but then I got so busy I didn’t HAVE time to read and that was annoying. Luckily the second half of the month I made up for it.

5. I started a major purge of my closet & bookshelves: I still have a LONG way to go but I’m working on paring down on a lot of things. I’m planning on getting that KonMari book to try that method.

‘The only way we can get by in this world is through the help we receive from others. No one can do it alone, no matter how great the machines are.” — Yes Please by Amy Poehler

It was in a section about technology and living in the moment and I just loved it! Lots of quoteable lines from this book!

2. How To Get Back On Track When You Are Backsliding On A Goal: Really relevant to my life right now haha

3. How Giving Away 1000 Books Made Me Love Reading Again: This was an interesting read that I found on a minimalist blog I follow! Curious what all my fellow book nerds think about it!

4. When Information Becomes Clutter & Noise: I was checking my Feedly and came across this not too long after I wrote about my internet fatigue I was feeling and this was PERFECT!

5. 15 Lessons from Turning My Travel Blog Into A Career: I have followed Kate for quite a few years and there’s a reason she is one of my faves! Loved her lessons!

mr8

1. So many new beers but especially Founders Rubaeus: I tried so many different beers this month but my new favorite is Founders Rubaeus that I tried when I was out in Michigan. We visited the brewery which was really nice and had good food!
2. True Detective & Wayward Pines – I’m on the first season of both of these but I’m obsessed!
3. Snapchat: I got it in June and got addicted but I’d July it became an obsession. I’m brokeandbookish on there if you want to be friends on there!

2. Another block party concert: This time we will see Matt and Kim, Atlas Genius, Saint Motel and Wolf Alice.
3. Relaxing & also enjoying the last month of our pool : July was pretty crazy but August is wide open for us so I see some good pool days in addition to other spontaneous things.
