SEPTEMBER In One Word

SUMMER-LIKE
I’m so happy Summer weather decided to stick around a bit!!

5 Things About My Life In September:

1. Will and I went to the last Radio 104.5 Block party & saw some amazing bands: Our alternative rock station puts on these free concerts in the summer! It has been on our bucket list of sorts to go and we FINALLY snagged the free tickets for the last one! We got to see Grouplove, Wolf Gang, Sir Sly, Vance Joy and Bricks + Mortar — all music I LOVE. It was raining and kind of cold but we stuck it out and had a good time — minus the moments where I felt like an old grumpy lady because THE YOUTH were acting a fool.

2. I saw Stephanie Perkins TWICE — She came to TWO local indies and so obviously I went to both events. OBVIOUSLY.

3. I went to two other amazing book events: Sarah J. Maas, Susan Dennard, Tiff Schmidt and Liz Norris came to town and it was SUCH a fun event. And then the Fierce Reads tour came to me! You can check out my Fierce Reads interview here!

Sarah J. Maas Heir of Fire selfie

4. Lots of park days & outside reading: - Seriously, it was SO nice out this month that I didn’t have to give up my outside reading!! SUNSHINE AND WARMTH I LOVE YOU.

5. I enjoyed some Fall food: I have NOT had a pumpkin spice latte this year and I’m only planning on having ONE every Fall for a few different reasons. HOWEVER, I had pumpkin gingersnap ice cream (tasted like PUMPKIN PIE) and a pumpkin cream cheese donut. SO THERE’S THAT.

6 Songs That Were Most Popular On My Ipod This Month:

I put all my Monthly Rewinds In a Spotify playlist so you can listen to them here now ! I also have my September playlist which honestly I’m kind of obsessed with so you should check out the rest of the songs I was listening to! WAS SO HARD TO NARROW DOWN.

1. Stolen Dance — Milky Chance ( I really like the song Down By The River too) I know this song was on my radar earlier this year but I have no idea HOW and WHERE but it was one of those experiences where I was like OMG THIS WAS THE SONG I HAD HEARD BUT DIDN’T KNOW WHAT IT WAS until I came across one of the new singles.

2. Night Window — Young Liars

3. You and Me — You+Me — Okay okay so I’m really excited about this collab. So it’s Alecia Moore (PINK) and Dallas from City and Colour. Alecia is from my hometown (literally she went to my same middle school & her childhood house is on my road) so I’m SO stoked for this  because I’ve always loved her voice and enjoyed her music because I ROOT FOR MY HOMETOWN GIRL but this just showcases her voice so much and is much more my style of music than what she does as PINK.

4. All I Want — Dawn Golden

5. Celeste — Ezra Vine

6. Out of My Mind — The Madden Brothers

Honorable Mentions: Wild Love by GosslingThe Lake by Fences, Sailing by The Strumbellas, The Wild Life by Vacationer, Io & I by Impala Ray, Been There Before by Ghost Beach, Beatings by Cove

What I’ve Been Up To On The Youtubes This Month:

I did a September TBR video and a book haul!

3 New Obsessions In September

1. Pumpkin cream cheese donut – This donut place is DANGEROUS. Will and I had 2 Saturday donut dates in a row and I’m OBSESSED. We also got maple bacon donuts and peanut butter fluff ones.

2. Polish Dark Chocolate: OMG OMG I am savoring my last piece. The people I work for went to Poland and brought me back this dark chocolate and it was PHENOMENAL. Will doesn’t even eat chocolate really and he was obsessed.

3. The Killing: Will and I started watching this show and are HOOKED!

3 Things I’m Looking Forward To In October

1. Can I say my birthday?: I can’t decide if I’m excited for it or not. I mean, I’m going to be 29 and that scares me because it’s my last full year being a twenty something. WHAT EVEN??? Like how am I that old?? Do you ever think…how did I get here??
2. Epic Reads in Princeton: WOOOO the Epic Reads tour is coming to town!!
3. Fall festivals: ALL OF THEM!

Favorite Quote From A Book I Read In September

Two books I read this month had a lot of really quote-worthy passages.

This one was really simple but it really resonated with me:

” We can’t be afraid of change,” she tells us. “Or else we’ll miss out on everything.”  – Belzhar by Meg Wolitzer

This book was freaking beautiful with every page:

“Our relationship still has too many blank spaces, and I’m sick of people I love being defined by stories I haven’t heard first hand” Words & Their Meanings by Kate Bassett (which I’ll talk about more on the blog later)

5 Posts I Starred In My Reader That You Should Check Out

1. On Trusting Your GutI had a similar post scheduled (but a more specific thing) when I read this and well the way Hannah put it all just was SO MUCH BETTER than my post haha.

2. That Awkward In-Between Place: So relevant to my life right now. Going from point A to point B (place you’re unhappy with to place you long to be in) gets weird and awkward and frizzy for a while. But you have to go through the icky transitional phase in order to realize any real change. You have to learn to sit with the discomfort and antsy-ness if you ever want to emerge on the other side.”

3. Sorry But Your Problems Are Not As Complicated As You Think: Real talk! This chronic over-complicator needed this.

4. Making space – holding the container open, empty and ready: Really great post about change and cleaning out — people, things, thoughts, that which isn’t US anymore. making space is about removing what’s dead in your life so new growth can flourish

5. Social Media + Living the Present As A Memory: Food for thought. I’ve been thinking A LOT about social media and my consumption of it and how I live because of it. More conscious. (Obviously because a couple posts on this list LAST month were related).

Pick a category (or 5… or all of them) and tell me what went on in YOUR life this month!! What sort of things were noteworthy for you this month? New obsessions? Any new song recs?? Best books you read this month? Great posts I missed on your blog?

Let’s Just Hit PAUSE So I Can Soak In More Summertime (August 2014 Rewind)

Lots of outdoor reading! Have to get it all in before the weather chases me inside to read!!

AUGUST In One Word

BITTERSWEET
Super busy and fun but some cold weather reminding me SUMMER IS ALMOST OVER. And I’m a summer girl.

5 Things About My Life In August:

1. Will and I celebrated 2 years of marriage: I can’t believe we’ve been married for two years but at the same time, maybe because we’ve been together for like 8 years, I feel like WAIT HASN’T IT BEEN LONGER?! We went to our favorite Mexican place and then we went bowling because we haven’t gone since probably COLLEGE. It was so fun and we had a blast. I also wrote a post where I talked about how we met and gave the deets to how we fell in love.

2. I went to Maryland for my family reunion/crab feast — It’s our yearly tradition and I love coming together to see the family, hang out at the bay, eat a ton and take in an Orioles game.

3. My baby sister and her new boyfriend came down to visit us: My sister met a boy at college last semester and so she came down and we went to the beach one day and just did lots of hanging out with them. We give him thumbs up as the older sisters! Nice kid…and besides my dad (although truly we might be WORSE than my dad), he had a lot of approval he needed to get haha.

4. Will and I did more exploring of finding fun, free/cheap-ish things to do: -We found a new park in the city to love ( THEY HAVE A HAMMOCK PARK), got froyo and did a free movie (Sandlot!!!) in the park that our township was doing, went to Chinatown and tried a new Ramen place and got bubble tea. Lots of NEW places because sometimes we get so stuck in our routine so August was really fun in that way.

5. SAW AND SOBBED THROUGH IF I STAY: NO SERIOUSLY. SOBBED THROUGH THE WHOLE THING. I thought it was really good. Obviously not as good as the book but I thought it was excellent. The music coming to life was AMAZING. I love Adam’s band (go check out the soundtrack and look for Willamette Stone)!! And Adam (although we came to the consensus they dicked him up a little bit), GRANDPA, and then my favorite scene EVER involving a cover of Today by Smashing Pumpkins. The only thing I thought was that the FEELS I got for the romance in the book didn’t translate as well..you just didn’t feel the sweeping romance you do in the book. I think BECAUSE Adam and Mia are already in my hearts is why I FELT it but I think if you didn’t know them..it wouldn’t have as big an impact on screen because it was rushed.

What I’ve Been Up To On The Youtubes This Month:

I’ve been quiet on the Youtubes again this month. I did post a book haul yesterday….that was my end of July/early August haul. OOPS.

3 New Obsessions In August

1. Hard Cider — I’ve enjoyed ciders before but I’ve been REALLY into them this month. I am OBSESSED with the Apple Pie Woodchucks. APPLE PIE IN A DRINK REALLY. And Angry Orchard has some amazing ones I’ve been digging!

2. The Tudors (tv show): I just started this show but I’m already obsessed. HATE THAT LIFE IS GETTING IN THE WAY OF WATCHING!

3. Talenti Caramel Cookie Crumble: I have tried A LOT of the Talenti gelatos but never this one. SO YUM.

3 Things I’m Looking Forward To In September

1. Possibly going camping: We’ve been wanting to go camping SO we are planning because WHY NOT.
2. ALL OF THE BOOK EVENTS!!!: If you are in the Philly area just SO YOU KNOW…Sarah J. Maas, Susan Dennard, Tiffany Schmidt and Liz Norris are doing an event on 9/3. Stephanie Perkins will be in the area on the 11th AND 12th!! And then Fierce Reads on the 21st!!
3. Bringing my boots out of the closet: Listen…not even the allure of pumpkin spice lattes, sweater weather, cute boots and pretty fall leaves can ever make me want summer to end. THAT BEING SAID…I am ridiculously excited to wear my boots again!

Favorite Quote From A Book I Read In July

I had to pick two this time around because I COULD NOT PICK BETWEEN THESE TWO!!

From The Piper’s Son by Melina Marchetta — THIS PRETTY MUCH SUMS UP MY LIFE.

“I’m scared I’m going to spend the rest of my life in a state of yearning, regardless of where I am.

From After I Do by Taylor Jenkins Reid — TRUTH. SO MUCH TRUTH. Something I’ve learned in the past couple years.

“Isn’t it nice … once you’ve outgrown the ideas of what life should be and you just enjoy what it is.”

5 Posts I Starred In My Reader That You Should Check Out

1. How To Be A Grown-Ass Woman: FriendshipsAs soon as I saw Sarah (the blogger who wrote this) tweet this out I was like OMG YES CLICK FAST GO. I have struggled with friendships since leaving college — I’ve grown apart from people because of  geography, I’ve dropped toxic friends, being bad about maintaining some friendships and just had a hard time FINDING new friends as a grownup especially with some past hurts on my heart. This post was BRILLIANT and reminded me of some things I can do better.

2. The Magic of A Good Old Fashioned Summer: I LOVED THIS. As an adult I’m always talking about how summers were so much better as a kid and I can never put my finger on it except the fact that I had 3 months of NOTHING — no work, no school. Just play. Even though the summer is over I’m bookmarking this post for next summer and will think on what made SUMMER summer to me as a kid and try to incorporate more of this into summer.

3. Living YOUR Life: Interesting food for thought for bloggers (and the social media obsessed!)

4. When Everything Needs To Be Shared: Another interesting post for our social media, document-everything lives.

5. Things I Don’t Care About: I really loved this real talk. I’ve realized as an adult there are things I simply just don’t care about anymore — despite what society thinks or what past Jamie would think. MESSY HAIR DON’T CARE. LAUNDRY ON THE FLOOR WOO. CHIPPED NAIL POLISH THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN OFF A MONTH AGO. Also, this post makes me want to be more honest about those things I might still be pretending to care about.

I Conquered A Thing — July 2014 Rewind! (GET IT GIRL!)

Image From This Month

Bs6grBxCMAA5ijX

With Sarah J. Maas and Susan Dennard at the Color Run!

JULY In One Word

BLUR
Seriously how did July fly by??

5 Things About My Life In July:

1. I conquered the Color Run: I’ve mentioned YA Runs A 5K and that was this month! I was really nervous about it because the one other 5K I did was NOT VERY GOOD FOR ME (10 degrees out and I only ran 2 times in preparation after a lifetime of being lazy) It was a great event with a mix of authors and bloggers! I was proud of how much I had run and, while I still don’t particularly like running, I felt really good about it and might continue to run a couple times a week! It was also fun because my pals Alexa and Elena came to stay with me!

2. I survived a week watching the nieces — So my sister got married at the end of June as you might know and they went on the honeymoon and our gift to them was watching the babies for a week. The two boys stayed at my dad’s and then Will and I had the girls — ages 10 months, 2 1/2, 7 and 16. It was a really good week to be able to spend time with them and it was NOT as difficult as I thought it would be. I thought the baby would be a mess without mom and I thought Genevieve would living up to the terrible twos like she does for my sis. But NOPE good behavior!!

3. I found a new favorite ice cream place: I HAVE a favorite ice cream place but it’s in downtown Philly and I’m not trekking there for ice cream on a normal day. The ice cream places seem to be limited in our area (WAH SO MISSING THE ONE NEAR WHERE I USED TO LIVE) but we finally tried this place that we’ve eaten at a couple times and it was delish. Not the BEST ice cream but now when I’m craving ice cream we can go there instead of buying it at the store because there’s no ice cream places we like.

4. I read Isla and the Happily Ever After– !!!!!! If you know me you know how long I’ve been waiting for that book and how happy I am!!

5. Will had his first week at the new job: He got a new job last month and he started the week after we watched the nieces. It seems to be going well for him and it’s definitely a better situation for us now!

6 Songs That Were Most Popular On My Ipod This Month:

I put all my Monthly Rewinds In a Spotify playlist so you can listen to them here now ! I also have a July playlist filled with other AWESOME songs that wouldn’t fit on here….seriously this might be my favorite playlist yet.

1. Start Again by Bishop Allen (I discovered their first album Charm School my freshman year in college (2004) and it was my most listened to album for sure. Happy to listen to some new stuff from them!)

2.  I Got Your Back by Paul Otten (One of his songs also made this list last November — really loving his music!)

3. Mother & Father by Broods (I have been obsessed with them this year! Every new single has been a LOVE for me)

4. Battles by Hudson Taylor

5. Disappear by Seryn

6. Brighter Days by Saint Raymond

Honorable Mentions: Thirteen Sad Farewells by Stu Larsen, Are You Behind The Shining Star by Trampled By Turtles, From Eden by Hozier, Like A River Runs by Bleachers ( their whole album has been on repeat as I mentioned in my New To The Queue post this month..their singles have dominated this list each month so I figured I’d leave them off), This Is The Place by Sam Brookes, Feel by Bombay Bicycle Club, Tonight (Young Hearts) by The Colourist

Follow my JULY playlist

Top 3 Books I Read This Month:

I read 8 books this month which surprised me but then didn’t because I did some good pool side reading!

1. Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas — Is it surprising to you I have something that ISN’T contemporary on this list?? I read Throne of Glass during Memorial Day weekend and this month I decided it was time to binge read CoM & HoF. As I type this I’m close to being done with HoF!
2. Let’s Get Lost by Adi Alsaid – Road trip book!! And very thought-provoking!
3. Isla & the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins: I so loved this one!! I have one issue with it, which I’ll share when I review it, but it didn’t really diminish my love for it if that makes sense!!

Most Popular 5 Blog Posts Overall This Month

5. 10 Classics I Need To Read : I’m actually really craving to read a classic after making this post! Going to make some time this Fall I think and you helped me prioritize!

What I’ve Been Up To On The Youtubes This Month:

I’ve been quiet on the Youtubes this month. I haven’t felt like filming but I have two videos I still need to edit and put up. Balancing both has been HARD this month. I was all gung ho…but now I seem to not have time!

3 New Obsessions In July

1. Sprouted Kitchen blogWe’ve already made some things from this blog but LOVE!! And I love her pictures!
2. My new dresses: I finally did some shopping after scraping money together to save for the past couple months and YAY NEW DRESSES!

BsiN46nCIAEyBuN
3. My new blender: WE LOVE SMOOTHIES but lazy Jamie is lazy sometimes. I was so sick of cleaning our blender out all the time but we just got this blender and it has individual cups that you use to blend it! So now I’m not washing out the blender AND a cup. Just the cup and the blade attaches so it’s SUPER easy to use! I’ve been making smoothies pretty much every day!

3 Things I’m Looking Forward To In August

1. Family reunion in Maryland: I will be there when this post goes live but I’m really excited for this weekend — see some family, do some crabbing, EAT some crabs and it will just be nice to be away!
2. My baby sister coming to visit: She’s bringing her new boyfriend and I’m so excited to meet him and hang out with them!
3. Hershey Park!! Will’s old company always did a day at Hershey Park and we are still going even though he doesn’t work there anymore. Excited to ride some rollercoasters!
Adding number 4: IF I STAY MOVIE COMING OUT!!!!!! If you have read If I Stay, do that before the movie!!

Favorite Quote From A Book I Read In July

From  Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour ( I think this SO applies to books too!)

“We love films because they makes us feel something. They speak to our desires, which are never small. They allow us to escape and to dream and to gaze into the eyes that are impossibly beautiful and huge. They fill us with longing. But also. they tell us to remember; they remind us of life. Remember, they say, how much it hurts to have your heart broken.”

6 Posts I Starred In My Reader That You Should Check Out

1. Hannah’s post on cultivating a curiosity for stories: This post was pure perfection. I wanted to comment on it but I was like I HAVE NO WORDS. I got goosebumps when I read it because this is how I feel!

2. Thou Shalt Determine A Thing’s Importance By How Easily It Can Be MeasuredI LOVED THIS. This was just a general LIFE post that really spoke to me but I was really thinking about how this applies really well to blogging. It’s easy to put the worth in these things that can be measured but they don’t really tell of something’s value and importance and aren’t the whole picture.

3. You’re Standing Where The Grass Is Greener: This could not be more true!! I needed this reminder as I’m really trying to work on embracing where I am in life.

4. For The Pursuit of Happiness: I loved this post from Jess and it made me reflect quite a bit. I am always a person who feels like I have to justify something I do but why can it not simply be for the pursuit of happiness?

5. Meg’s post about sex positive YA: I really loved this post and so respect Meg for sharing her experience. This is a REALLY great post!! (also, there are some really great suggestions of sex positive YA in the comments but I’d love to hear any books you think I will particularly love that are sex positive!)

6. Maggie’s post on how she has no desire to own a lot of books: She is surely in the minority in this community and I loved her thoughts because I’ve always been a bit of a minimalist when it came to books I keep after reading them but my book buying habits have also changed during my time of unemployment.

Pick a category (or 5… or all of them) and tell me what went on in YOUR life this month!! What sort of things were noteworthy for you this month? New obsessions? Any new song recs?? Best books you read this month? Great posts I missed on your blog?

My youngest sister, my dad, my sister Angela and I. LOVE IT.

JUNE In One Word

WEDDING
Everything I did pretty much was related to my sister’s wedding

5 Things About My Life In June:

1. My younger sister (Genevieve & Adela’s mom) got married!! It was stressful leading up to it because my sister is suuuuper laid back and not at all good at these sorts of things so I did a lot of THINGS as MOH to make sure everything ran smoothly. BUT it was a super fun wedding and my sister looked seriously gorgeous! And as I speak right now we have the 4 girls to take care of for a week while they are on their honeymoon! Thankfully the boys are staying with my dad for the week.

2. Will got a new job!! — I am so, so excited. My brother-in-law was able to get him in the door at his company when something opened up and HE GOT IT. It couldn’t have come at a better time and, as you all know, things have been rough for us in the past couple years so this was AWESOME NEWS. Waaaay better pay, better commute, benefits and tons of room for growth!!

3. LOTS of World Cup watching: We watch a lot of soccer in general in our household (mostly Will getting up early to watch while I blog and watch next to him) but we’ve been non-stop with the World Cup. We went to a crazy bar for the first US game and I felt like I was at a frat party getting beer thrown at me. We’ve had lots of World Cup fun so far going to different bars and watching with people.

4. My blog turned 4!!– Sometimes I’m like I ONLY HAVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR 4 YEARS and other days I’m like HOLY CRAP 4 YEARS THAT IS A LOT OF TIME. I reflected upon how book blogging has changed my life in these 4 years.

5. I signed up for a 5k! So if you heard the story of my first 5K fail, you know it did not end well. SO I signed up for another one for July as part of the YA Runs A 5K!

6 Songs That Were Most Popular On My Ipod This Month:

I put all my Monthly Rewinds In a Spotify playlist so you can listen to them here now ! I also have a June playlist filled with other AWESOME songs that wouldn’t fit on here.

Top 3 Books I Read This Month:

I read 6 books this month which is more than I thought considering ALL THE THINGS I had to do for my sister’s wedding.

1. I’ll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson — I gave a really short “Save the Date” with my thoughts. Full review to come! Seriously, if you are on the fence with checking this one out look at my thoughts!
2. Tease by Amanda Maciel — I had some issues with characterization outside the main character but this book, as a concept, was AWESOME. A book about bullying from the POV of one of the bullies. Very realistic feeling!
3. Brazen by Katherine Longshore: I am a Reign addict and this historical fiction book was a fun romp through royal life in King Henry VIII court! (review to come)

Most Popular Review This Month

Tease by Amanda Maciel

Tease by Amanda Maciel was definitely very popular because it’s a bit of a difficult one to swallow so I’m not surprised it was my most popular review!

1. Kick Feedburner To The Curb: I’ve thought Feedburner was a pain in the butt for quite sometime with all its shenanigans of not showing all your followers and doing crazy things. I have been putting off switching but Hannah’s post is giving me motivation!

2. The First Step To Anything Is Show Up: I feel like I needed to hear this right now! “Stop talking about how much you want something, and just start showing up. Let your actions do the talking.”

3. How Self Aware Should Someone Be?: Some definite food for thought! Especially as someone who feels like they are pretty self aware. LOTS TO THINK ABOUT. And I love that the convo stemmed from a book!

4.The Truth About Social Media : One of those things I always try to think about but sometimes I lose sight of it and get caught up in this envious state. Always a nice reminder!

5. 5 Travel Mistakes I Keep Making Again and Again: This is one of my favorite travel blogs and her honesty is so refreshing. I loved this post because it’s nice to see even seasoned pros don’t have it together when it comes to travel!

Holy Crazy Month! (May 2014 Rewind)

Image From This Month

Gayle Forman BEAI had a bajillion BEA pics but obviously Gayle Forman had to be the ONE. She said, “let’s take a selfie.” SO I DID.

MAY In One Word

AMAZING
Warm weather, BEA, etc.

5 Things About My Life In May:

1. I went to the Book Expo of America!! My recap will be coming but Year #4 was excellent. So many great friends to see again and so many lovelies to meet for the first time. SO MUCH FUN. Great conversations and picked up some good books!

2. I got to be part of a phone interview with John Green about the TFIOS movie — and, as per usual for me, I made a fool out of myself.

3. I went to the beach for the first time in 2014 AND my pool at my apartment is OPEN: SUMMER TIME. YES.

4. Will & I went to a Death Cab For Cutie show — it’s been since my sophomore year in college (2005) since I’ve seen them. It was AWESOME. The band that opened was…errrm interesting.

5. I went back to being a redhead! I was a redhead (of various shades) all throughout high school and college and then a year or two before the wedding I went brown so I could be a little natural for my wedding but now I’m BACK.

3 New Obsessions In May

1. Crack pie at Momofuku Milk Bar — So I put that I wanted to go to Momofuko Milk Bar on my NYC bucket list post and I got a group of bloggers who wanted to come with during BEA! OMG THE CRACK PIE. I can’t even explain.
2. The Blueberry Vanilla Kind Bars. My all time favorite are the pumpkin maple ones but THEY WERE OUT so I had to get different ones and I kind of love them!!
3. The new season of 24: Listen, back in college I was more than obsessed with Jack Bauer and his ass kicking ways. So many good memories binge watching on snow days until we caught up and then weekly 24 dates with my group of friends. So I’m SO HAPPY for this new season after all these years.

3 Things I’m Looking Forward To In June

1. MY SISTER’S WEDDING!!!! I cannot believe my little (2-ish years younger) sister is getting married (Genevieve & Adela’s mom). I’m the MOH and I need to come up with the best speech ever without crying. We’ve been through a lot together and yeah…she couldn’t hold it together
2. POOL DAYS!!
3. TFIOS movie!! I am going to bawl my eyes out (like everybody else).

Favorite Quote From A Book I Read In May

Can I just pick the entirety of The Fault In Our Stars?? SIGH I guess I’ll pick one from it then:

“Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book.”

5 Posts I Starred In My Reader That You Should Check Out

1. How To Live A Life You’re Proud Of: “That will be the thing I regret most too, and the moments when I was generous, when I embodied kindness, will be the moments I am most proud of. String enough of them together, and I will have lived a life I’m proud of.”

2. It’s All Been Said Before — But It Hasn’t Been Said By YOU: Sometimes I’ve felt that nagging feeling in my 4 years of blogging of “why bother…it’s all been said before.” This was a good reminder! “Don’t let the fear of being another voice in an over-saturated blogosphere hold you back from starting something amazing.”

3. What Defining Success On Your Own Terms Really Means: I started to tear up reading this because I’ve been feeling so down on myself and how not successful I am in all the ways I thought I would be successful in years ago. (Read: being in a career I loved).  Great reminder and food for thought for me!

4. Life Advice From Famous, Painfully Awesome Women : Loved this!

5. Art Appreciation: Loved this post from Anna so hard about books and appreciating the art. It was beautiful and I SO have had that moment too where I’m just overcome by it all. “Every so often, though, a book comes along that halts me in my tracks…..And I think to myself, “Oh, so this is art.”  One of my favorite posts I read all month!

2. The band Twin Forks. Okay I know I’ve talked about them a lot recently but I’m obsessed this month. Their single Back To You got me hooked last year and the album came out and it is SO GOOD.
3. This recipe from one of our all time favorite blogs. That peanut sauce was BANGIN. Though both Will and I thought it wasn’t spicy at all and he left the seeds in the jalapenos? Still very yum and we both couldn’t wait to eat our leftovers!

3 Things I’m Looking Forward To In May

1. BEA!!! Are you going!? Let’s meet!
2. Will and I are going to see Death Cab in AC. They were a favorite in HS and college for me and I just have to go!
3. EVEN WARMER WEATHER! Do I sound like a broken record yet??

Favorite Quote From A Book I Read In April

5 Posts I Starred In My Reader That You Should Check Out

1. Creation, Consumption & Apathy: This was very, very relevant to me as a blogger who creates content and an avid internet-goer as I struggle with this — sometimes I’m inspired when I consume the work of others but sometimes I feel how she does. “The problem with over-consuming the work of other people (or even the lives of other people) is that it robs me of the energy and motivation to create. And when I’m not actively creating something — no matter what that something is — I feel less like me.”

2. Do Something poem: I needed this pep talk of sorts!

3. Book Blogging Organization Worksheet: I’ve shared Hannah’s organization posts before (namely her Goodreads plan which is AMAZING) but if you are a book blogger who struggles to get organized I definitely recommend taking a look at what Hannah created and so kindly shared with everyone!

4. The #1 Way I’m Able To Pack So Much Into A Day: If you follow the posts I pick each month during my Rewind you know I’m always sharing posts from my friend Jess! She always posts such great stuff and I loved her idea of energy management. I sometimes struggle with time management but this post made me wonder if it’s a different issue altogether. Must experiment!

5. Staying Interesting When Time Marches On: My friend Ginger, one of the bloggers I’ve been friends with since the beginning because we started at the same time, talked about something that has been plaguing me A LOT lately as I approach 4 years of this blog in June. It’s hard to keep up a blog long term and still feel relevant and in the know when there are a flux of new blogs and new trends always coming through. I keep wondering am I still interesting?? Are people sick of hearing my opinions after 4 years?? Am I not exciting because I’m not new and shiny?? I applaud Ginger’s honesty and it made me feel better in a way to know I’m not the only seasoned blogger struggling with this.

March 2014 Rewind

March In One Word

CONQUER
I conquered this reading slump I had so badly so far in 2014 and I conquered something that scared me!

5 Things That Happened In March:

1. Veronica Mars movie!! I love Veronica Mars so much and was happy to back this film the moment I found out about the Kickstarter campaign so I was delighted when Will surprised me with special fan event tickets so we got to see the movie a night early and got Neptune High Reunion shirts. I loved the movie as a fan!!

2. The Storycrush tour came to Philly — Lauren Oliver, Melissa Kantor, Robyn Schnieder, Courtney J. Stephens and Katie Cotugno. You can check out my quick little recap I did of the event…tried something new so I’d like feedback on it!

3. Divergent!!! I rather enjoyed it as far as book to movie adaptations go. Wasn’t perfect but I liked! But THEO JAMES. DROOL.

4. I got my first ice cream of the season from a new ice cream shop that was SO tasty. I even went bold and tried a new flavor — blueberry crunch — rather than going with my staple of mint chocolate chip.

5. I got back into pilates! I was sick right when the new year started and just really fell off the working out wagon and FINALLY I’ve gotten into a routine again!

6 Songs That Were Most Popular On My Ipod This Month:

I put all my Monthly Rewinds In a Spotify playlist so you can listen to them here now ! I also have a March playlist filled with other AWESOME songs that wouldn’t fit on here.

1. Thunder Clatter by Wild Cub

2. Cardiac Arrest by Bad Suns

3. We Might Be Dead by Tomorrow by Soko

4. Turn It Around by Lucius

5. Fire Eyed Ones by Fire Eye

6. Up The Wolves by The Mountain Goats (they are one of my all time faves but The Walking Dead played this song on a recent episode and OMG it made me remember how much I loved them/I went on a TMG bender!)

Honorable Mentions: Elaine (Until Now) by The Fleeting Ends , Pull Down The Moon by Cattle & Cane, Casino by The Notwist

Most Popular 5 Blog Posts Overall This Month

1. DO NOT READ IN PUBLIC — I  loved how varied we all about emoting in public while reading. LOVED reading your awkward public crying (or laughing) stories about books that made us cry.
2. What It’s Like To Be A Mood Reader– In which I talk about what it’s like to be a mood reader and how it affects my reading and my blogging.
3. On Binge Reading Series…And Why I Haven’t Done It Since 2008 : I really appreciated all your recs!! Still going through them!
4. Top Ten Popular Authors I’ve Never Read: Oh the shame! But some of you made me feel better!
5. Top books on my Spring TBR list : Lots of good books for me to read Spring 2014!

3 New Obsessions In March

1. Nourish Organic Moisturizing Face CleanserI was in need of a new face cleanser and picked this up and I love it so far! My face feels so soft. I don’t care for the smell so much but doesn’t bother me too much!

2. Angry Orchard Hard Cider: YUM.

3. This recipe. YUM roasted portabella and chickpea burritos with chimichurri sauce. SO BEYOND YUM.

3 Things I’m Looking Forward To In April

1. My sister’s bridal shower! Minus all my MOH stress with planning it!
2. Perhaps the end of the cold?? Maybe even some sandal weather?!
3. Visiting my dad and family for Easter!

Favorite Quote From A Book I Read In March

“Sometimes a moment defines you, defines how people see you for the rest of your life. You can accept it or fight it. If you’re lucky, you’ll recognize the moment when it happens.” — If I Lie by Corrine Jackson

5 Posts I Starred In My Reader That You Should Check Out

1. 6 Ways To Honor Your Time (And Live Your One Wild & Precious Life): I’ve always been a fan of that Mary Oliver poem (it even spurred this post) but I admittedly always just focus on the well known quote of it but I LOVED that she talked about the lines together. It hit me even more profoundly. This was a post I NEEDED to read and I think others could get a lot out of it. #1 and #4 were big for me.

2. The Grace In Saying No: I’m a person that struggles to say no. Like really, really bad. Sometimes I genuinely want to do something and don’t want to miss out. Sometimes its guilt. Sometimes it’s feeling bad. It’s a whole mess of things. I want to please people. I stretch myself thin. I need to get better at this.

3. How To Get Back To Kicking Ass if This Year Has Gotten Away From You: Oh GOD. This year. I had all these huge goals and THINGS for this year and like seriously how are we saying goodbye to March already?! I slacked so far this year and I’ve been beating myself up on it so this post was gold!

4. DIY Skin Clearing Mask: This blogger has been my go to for skin care and such for the past couple years. She’s always coming up with new things for me to experiment with and I can’t WAIT to do this.

5. Someone Else’s Pain + Struggles Do Not Negate Yours: Loved this post a lot! Very thought provoking! I do try to keep my problems in perspective and feel guilty often because I know others have it worse than I do right now but my financial situation + long term unemployment is what I’m going through right now and it’s hard for me.

February In One Word

Crazy.
The weather, not getting the job, some family things that shook things up for a bit, busy days . CRAZY.

5 Things That Happened In February:

1. I didn’t get the job I interviewed for. BLAH DI BLAH. Over it..on to the next thing!

2. I tried pho for the first time! It was so tasty!

3. We had ONE nice, glorious weekend and went out and did ALL THE THINGS because OMG NO SNOW/FREEZING TEMPS. Seriously, it was amazing and reminded me how grateful I am for Spring after a long Winter.

4. I did a complete overhaul of my shelves. By accident. Because the ice took out our power for a day. It was a good time and I rediscovered so many books which prompted this post and then this new thing I’ll be doing!

5. I went to the library for the first time this year. (I was vowing not to go for a while because I seriouslyyy don’t need to bring anymore books into my apartment). I can’t even tell you how much my mood is enhanced by wandering the library aimlessly by myself for a couple hours!

2. What Has Happened To Me?!– In which I talk about something alarming (to me) as a reader so far in 2014!
3. If We Were Having Coffee : I introduced this post a couple months ago and decided to make it a regular thing to talk to you about LIFE.
4. I’m Hanging Up My Book Reviewer Hat: I’m not going anywhere but I talked about some changes! I’m glad you guys were supportive of my wanting to make a distinction, for myself and my blog, between book blogger and book reviewer. I’ll still be doing “review-like” things but I don’t want to BE a book reviewer.
5. 10 Books That Made Me Cry : ALL THE TEARS.

3 New Obsessions In February

1. House Of Cards season 2 — This season couldn’t have come out at a better time. Will and I (okay really just me..his life moved on immediately after) have been mourning the loss of Breaking Bad since our binge watching of the series ended in December. I just couldn’t move on to a new show but as soon as House of Cards came back I was like YESSSS. Frank Underwood. And MAN did this season start out with a bang!

2. This kettle corn: I seriously am addicted to it. It’s my dessert every night!

3. My new jacket from this store called Garage!

Favorite Quote From A Book I Read In February

“I keep wishing, reflexively, for a glimpse of the future, so I’ll know what to do. But I don’t kid myself. I have to feel my way forward blindly. I try not to be afraid. Even if you know what’s coming, you’re never prepared for how it feels.” — How To Say Goodbye In Robot by Natalie Standiford

6 Posts I Starred In My Reader That You Should Check Out

1. You Are A Big Deal No Matter How Big Your Audience May Be: This is SUCH a good post! I struggle with this from time to time and I know others do and I think reframing is the name of the game here and I love it! Such a good way to look at blogging!! Alex’s blog is one of my daily favorite reads so I highly recommend!

2. The Fine Art Of Fluff: I looooved this post from Christina! I feel like “fluff” or more lighthearted books get a bad reputation and are easily dismissed. I LOOOOOVE books that make me feel good and actually asked for recs recently because I needed a pick-me-up REAL bad! I agree with everything Christina says in this and her recs are excellent of the ones I’ve read and most are on my TBR!

3. On Changing Your Dreams: You know sometimes when you read something and you just KNOW you were meant to read that? Yep. This post for me. I appreciate Emma’s honesty and it encouraged me because as you know my dreams are quite a mess with this whole wrench called long term unemployment that I would have NEVER thought I would find myself in. I’m thinking a lot about Emma’s story and immediately started journalling after!

4. DIY Split End & Dry Hair Treatment: Oh lordy I need this. My hair + the wintertime = BAD NEWS BEAR.

5. 27 Productive Things You Can Do With 5 Minutes: Some good ideas! I’m that person who will just scroll mindlessly on Twitter or Tumblr when I’m left with a few minutes between things. I’m fine with doing that but sometimes I’d rather be productive and these are perfect and practical!

6. 162 YA Retellings Chart: This is AMAAAAAZING. So in depth and so awesome. My dear friend Margot went above and beyond yet again! Print this out, save it!

So. Much. Snow. This. Month. Just wait for THIS story.

January In One Word

COLD. (I was going to go with two words and say POLAR VORTEX)

5 Things That Happened In January:

1. My adorable niece Genevieve turned TWO. My nephew (from a different sister) also turned two — he and Genevieve were born one day a part. My baby sister turned 19…I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS. Lots of birthdays!!

2. We had so much snow so far this winter (an abnormally large amount) and I HATE IT NOW. The last snowstorm we had caused my 25 minute ride home to turn into almost 4 1/2 hours. It was insane. That picture above was me sitting on a road that was pretty much a parking lot and reading!

3. I went to ALA & met some awesome authors, publishing people, bloggers and got some fab books!

4. I redesigned this blog because I got bored one Sunday and didn’t want to tackle things on my to-do list. So, all you people reading from a feed, come visit to see it! I will have cookies prepared upon your arrival.

5. I was sick for like almost 2 weeks. Literally, the first day of January was when I felt it so 2014 started out with me being miserable, sleeping a lot and just generally hating life haha.

“Becoming fearless isn’t the point. That’s impossible. It’s learning how to control your fear, and how to be free from it.” — Divergent by Veronica Roth

5 Posts I Starred In My Reader That You Should Check Out

1. How To Tame (Organize) Your Goodreads: This post from Hannah is the best thing EVER! I have 6+ years of Goodreads clutter and I’ve been able to tackle it thanks to this post. MUST READ.

2. Laying Foundations When You Want To Build Walls: I so struggle with this. I definitely bare the scars of some bad friends and being treated like crap so it’s so easy for me to want to build walls. I don’t mean to but it’s just so hard. Especially when I think I’m making progress and then I find out otherwise. I needed this food for thought. Maybe certain walls need to be in place for certain people..but certainly not to everyone.

3. When Your Goals Change: This was such a good reminder for me. I so often feel like a failure when I give up on my goals but it really IS okay for them to change because sometimes I might be more into something and think it’s important but then life happens and priorities and interests shift. It’s OKAY. Always new goals to have. Ones that align with where I’m at right now.

4. On Bad Reviews (On Why You Barely See The On Here) — I loved this honest post from Anna. She’s a blogger I’ve known since the beginning and I’ve always known her stance, for herself, on negative reviews but I was glad to see her talk about it. The thing I love about the blogging community is everyone does their own thing. I love reading constructive negative reviews and I write them when I have to but, for me, I’m okay when a blogger decides to only talk about books they like. It’s whatever tone you decide you want and sometimes I feel like bloggers who don’t write negative reviews get crap about it which saddens me because it doesn’t ALWAYS mean the blogger likes everything they read — sometimes they just don’t want to talk about them/want their site to be a place where they can talk about books they loved. I loved Anna’s well articulated thoughts on why they aren’t for her and I think it gives food for thought for others early in their blogging careers who are trying to figure out what

5. Ginger’s list of 20-somethings in books: Love this list from Ginger! I’ve read Raw Blue and Holier Than Thou and have heard of 3 others but I’m excited to dig into this list! I trust her opinion and this is a fab list!

3 New Obsessions In December

1. BREAKING BAD!!! Oh my goodness. Will and I just finished last night. We binge watched the whole series and I will tell you guys…it’s one of my all time favorite tv shows of all times. So amazing and depressing and conflicting and OMG THE CHARACTERS. I sobbed. SOBBED.
2. Rumchata: Will and I discovered rumchata this month. HOLY YUM. It’s a vanilla rum liquor and it’s so yummy. We’ve made Rumchata hot cocoa (a little sweet but good) and we’ve mixed it with something and it tasted like a cinnamon bun (I think it was the fireball whiskey)
3. Skinny Red Velvet Cinnamon Buns – Will and I have made these like 3 times already this month. YUM!

3 Things I’m Looking Forward To In January

1. Hopefully hearing back from this job that I want!
2. Genevieve’s 2nd birthday — I seriously can’t believe my little niece is this old already.
3. A fresh start — I know that it’s all in my head but I really do find the new year to be refreshing and I need this in my soul. I’m ready for the new year.

Favorite Quote From A Book I Read In December

“I really wondered why people were always doing what they didn’t like doing. It seemed like life was a sort of narrowing tunnel. Right when you were born, the tunnel was huge. You could be anything. Then, like, the absolute second after you were born, the tunnel narrowed down to about half that size. You were a boy, and already it was certain you wouldn’t be a mother and it was likely you wouldn’t become a manicurist or a kindergarten teacher. Then you started to grow up and everything you did closed the tunnel in some more. You broke your arm climbing a tree and you ruled out being a baseball pitcher. You failed every math test you ever took and you canceled any hope of ever being a scientist. Like that. On and on through the years until you were stuck. You’d become a baker or a librarian or a bartender. Or an accountant. And there you were. I figured that on the day you died, the tunnel would be so narrow, you’d have squeezed yourself in with so many choices, that you just got squashed.”  — Tell The Wolves I’m Gone by Carol Rifka Brunt

5 Posts I Starred In My Reader That You Should Check Out

1. 20 Things You Need To Let Go Of To Be Happy — This isn’t from a blog but Anna shared it with me and probably about 17 of these are things I really struggle with. They are the things that truly DO bring me unhappiness. WORKING ON IT FOR SURE.

2. My top ten worst travel moments– Adventurous Kate is one of my favorite travel blogs. I often find myself very jealous of her and other travel bloggers because I just WANT to be able to travel this much because it feels like they are living the dream. So I loved her candid post about the worst things that happened to her traveling and DAMN some of those were AWFUL. I appreciated knowing, even though the logical part of me being squashed by the dreamer really knew all along, that it’s not all this perfect, crazy fun that travel blogs so often give the impression of.

3. 2013: A Learning Year — Managing Expectations: Love this post so hard! I’ve never read Jessica’s books though I do own the first book but I really respect the hell out of her for writing this and 1) it makes me want to hug all the authors I love and 2) is definitely making me put her book as a priority in 2014. It was candid and very eye-opening for someone who has no idea what the writer’s life is like.

4. The Power of Paying It Forward — What a good reminder of how amazing it is to pay it forward intentionally. In 2014 I vow to be more intentional about paying it forward and showering the world with random acts of genuine kindness.

5. How To Cull Your Books: Love this post from April! Culling my books is the hardest and I did a decent job in 2013 of doing it but I MUST TRY HARDER IN 2014.

What sort of things were noteworthy for you in December? New obsessions? Any new song recs?? Best books you read this month? Great posts I missed on your blog? Tell me! :)
