This week’s topic: Top Ten Of My Favorite Books I’ve Read This Year
I’ve had a really really good reading year. I’ve really liked WAY more things than NOT liked or did not finish because I wasn’t into it. But when I was making this list I was like, even though I LIKED and even REALLY liked stuff, there wasn’t a lot that garnered my highest rating. I mean, I’m happy that I had generally positive feelings towards a good chunk of what I’ve read but DAMMIT I WANT SOME NEW FAVORITES.
Truthwitch by Susan Dennard: Okay so I got this at BEA and it was one of my MOST anticipated (cough for 2016 I KNOW..I HAVE NO CONTROL) and I read it as soon as I got home from BEA…well actually on the train on the way home. OH MY GOD IT IS SO FREAKING GOOD. If you love epic fantasy, THIS MUST BE ON YOUR TBR. I typically don’t want to reread a book right after I read it but I just keep wanting to reread this.
A Court of Thorns & Roses by Sarah J. Maas: Was so swept up in this awesome fantasy/fairytale retelling. (My thoughts on ACOTAR)
The Start of You & Me by Emery Lord: I loved her debut Open Road Summer but this one is just SO DELIGHTFUL. (My review of The Start of You & Me)
Mosquitoland by David Arnold: This was such a quirky little gem that I loved so much and Mim is a character I will not soon forget! (My review of Mosquitoland)
Lumatere Chronicles by Melina Marchetta: OMG THIS TRILOGY. Incredible. INCREDIBLE. MY NEW FAVORITES. I have never cared about characters as much as I care about these ones. (My review of the Lumatere Chronicles)
All the Rage by Courtney Summers: What an important novel that I couldn’t put down at all! ALL THE EMOTIONS, MAN….INCLUDING FIERY HOT RAGE! (My review of All the Rage)
PS I Still Love You by Jenny Han: What an extremely satisfying ending to Lara Jean’s story that I fell in love with in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before! (My review of PS I Still Love You)
Emmy & Oliver by Robin Benway: This was one of the sweetest yet heartachingly saddest books (all in one!) that I’ve ever read. (My review of Emmy & Oliver)
Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen: I’m only read Just Listen, Lock & Key, Someone Like You and now this one (although I’m reading This Lullaby right now) but Sarah Dessen just keeps impressing me and I just want to devour her backlist.This one was just EVERYTHING I love in contemporary YA! (My review of Saint Anything)
The Boy in the Black Suit by Jason Reynolds: This one I feel has gone under the radar so far this year and it makes me so sad because it’s so excellent. It’s definitely a more quiet and character-driven novel but I just loved it so much. (My review of The Boy in the Black Suit)
So tell me…what have some of your fave books been so far?? I would REALLY love it if you would tell me ONE you think I absolutely MUST read that just blew you away this year! Have you read any of these?

I think I’m a bit surprised that Simon isn’t here? Hee. I remember you gave it our highest rating. Now, it makes me wonder how you rate your books or how the BEST in this topic applies. Hee. Sadly, I didn’t love The Start of Me and You as much as I did with Open Road Summer BUT yes to PS I Still Love You. Hee!

Wow, so I made this comment after being awake for 24+ hours and wow, I used a lot of Hees in this one. Plus, that OUR should be YOUR. What even is happening in this comment? The one time I didn’t lurk, I just embarrassed myself!

Haha Simon SO would have made my list (it’s DEF a new favorite and the highest rating was bestowed on it) but I read in in December of last year soooo technically I didn’t read it in 2015. I KIND OF HATE WHEN I READ A BOOK NOT IN ITS YEAR BC IT MAKES MY LISTS ALL SCREWY. I’ll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios is another one I read in 2014 that would have made this list.

I can’t wait to read Emery Lord’s The Start of Me and You. I really enjoyed Open Road Summer. I want to read so many of these books, so I’m glad that you rate them so highly.

So many of these books are on my TBR pile. Love that you have such a diverse group of books. My Top Ten Tuesday includes a lot of older titles but I’m using this year to get caught up.

ACOTAR is on my list too! It’s really great! Haven’t read the other yet, but everyone seems to love Emmy & Oliver. I probably should read it soon!

Great list! I think I might have to check Truthwitch out next year, and I definitely need to read Finnikin of the Rock some time soon because I only seem to hear great things about it. 🙂

OMG TRUTHWITCH IS A MUST!! And yes the Lumatere Chronicles…I think I love it more than any other series…which is hard to say because Throne of Glass is my current favorite but it definitely is neck in neck though they are VERY different series to me. The last book, Quintana of Charyn, was just AMAZING and one of the best series enders ever!

What a great list! I’ll be reading ALL THE RAGE soonish, and ACOTAR is on my TBR list too. My top read so far is probably HALF WILD by Sally Green—such a great sequel to a fantastic series!

Yes, yes, yes to Lumatere Chronicles! I’m so glad that I finally was pushed to read it this year and I LOVE IT SO DAMN MUCH.
So excited to read The Start of Me and You and Saint Anything! A slightly bit hesitant about reading A Court of Thorns and Roses because of all the 2-star reviews. =(
My favorites are definitely Ness’s More Than This, Schwab’s A Darker Shade of Magic, Ahdieh’s The Wrath and the Dawn (OMG MUST READ), Marchetta’s Lumatere Chronicles, Saving Francesca and The Piper’s Son, and Albertalli’s Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda!

The Truthwitch is looks amazing but I am steadfastly trying to ignore the buzz because the release date is cruelly far and away ;_;
I adored Finnikin of the Rocks, but haven’t gotten around to reading the rest of The Lumatere Chronicles (mainly as I remain unconvinced I could give a crap about Froi the attempted rapist). But these posts about how awesome the rest of the sequels are totally sways me.
Lovely list of contemporary YA as well, which I’m trying to branch into. I’m esp interested in PS I Still Love You.

And so did P.S. I Still Love You, it was the perfect sequel.
I now really want to get my hands on All The Rage, I’ve been seeing it around but haven’t heard a lot about it.
Truthwitch is definitely one of my most anticipated read for 2016. So jealous you’ve already read it!

Awesome list!! I’m just now getting ready to start my first Sarah Maas book. I picked up Throne of Glass and hope to get to it while I’m on vacation this summer. Saint Anything, Emmy & Oliver, and P.S. I Still Love You are all on my TBR list as well. I’m happy to see that you enjoyed them.

the only one on your list i have read is Saint Anything, and I really enjoyed it.. I’ve only read one other Sarah Dessen book though. Added the rest to my list!

Truthwitch!!!! Agree 100%. We have a lot of similar titles. Also, I’m listening to Froi of the Exiles right now and I am in love! I think I like it even more than Finnikin!

Agreed! I’ve at least liked most of my books this year, unlike last year. Not all of my Top 10 were FAVORITE favorites, either, but favorites of this year so far because I did enjoy them! TRUTHWITCH and ACOTAR both made my list! I still need to pick up my copy of FINNIKIN again. I finally started it after your revew, but haven’t had time to go back! I didn’t like Emery’s new book as mucch as last year, but still love to recommend it. I also need to read SAINT ANYTHING!!

AH, LUMATERE CHRONICLES! It’s capslock worthy, okay. I need everyone to discover the utter brilliance that is Melina Marchetta.
One of my all-time faves of this year so far has to be Uprooted by Naomi Novik. Adored it!

I loved ACOTAR, read it in two days! It was amazing. And I adored The Start of Me and You so much. PS I Still Love You is at the top of my summer tbr, I’m glad it felt satisfying to you! TRUTHWITCH OMG. The wait is so long hahaha. Three of my favorites so far (besides rereads): Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda (YOU’VE READ THIS RIGHT?! THE CUTENESS), Grounded: The Adventures of Rapunzel, and Every Word (sequel to Every Breath). If you haven’t read Every Breath, you should give it a try. The ship is out of this worldddd and I loved the mystery, the Sherlock/Holmes retelling, and the Australian setting. One of my favorite recent series!

To All the Boys I’ve loved before almost made my top 10, but I have just read so many wonderful books this year. I am currently finishing ACOTAR, and if I had finished it before today, it would have made my list.

I feel pretty much the same as you this year! I’ve read lots of 3 and 4 star books, but only 12 5 star books (1 of which was a nonfiction and the other was a sequel). I’ve also read more books I didn’t like or didn’t stick with me, but that’s probably a result of reading more this year than ever before.

i just finished saint anything a few days ago and honestly it would be on my favourite books of 2015 so far list if i made one (which i didnt because i am so bad at keeping up with these topics!!). i just loved it soo much and maybe my feelings toward it were a bit amplified because prior to saint anything, i didn’t have a great experience with a string of sarah dessens so maybe it was like “WOW this book isn’t a disappointment” love but i also think i just really really really really loved it. and oh jamie, how is this lullaby??? you must tell me!! it is one of my favourite sarah dessens of all time and then once you finish you also need to read the truth about forever.
the rest of this list just serves as a reminder of all the books i still need to read… acotar, the start of me and you, psisly, emmy & oliver… but thank god for the summer, right? because when else would i have all this time to catch up on my reading?? 🙂

Ahhh, I have read NONE of these except for Finnikin of the Rock, which I LOVED. I can’t wait to continue this series. I’m also dying to read All the Rage, The Start of Me and You, and Truthwitch. My friend actually sent me Truthwitch to borrow so I’ll be reading it VERY VERY SOON AND I AM SO DANG EXCITED!!

A Court of Thorns and Roses was also on my list! So amazing, right? Anything Sarah J. Maas writes is utter perfection. I wish she’d turn out a book every day! I also seriously need to read Finnikin of the Rock. I’ve had it sitting on my shelf for years now and everyone says it’s fabulous. One book on my own Top Ten Tuesday list was Nimona by Noelle Stevenson. Probably one of my favorite, if not my favorite, graphic novels I’ve read. You should definitely check it out!
