This week’s topic: Top Ten Most Anticipated Debut Novels Of 2015 (I have 15 haha)
So let’s get to it….in no particular order!
Mosquitoland by David Arnold: First, I love this cover. And I just need to meet Mim. Everything I’ve heard about this novel makes me especially anxious to have it in my hands!! Plus sounds like a promise of a road trip and some quirky characters? YES PLEASE THANKS.
More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera: I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE SINCE ADAM ANNOUNCED THE NEWS! Adam is a fabulous book person and I’ve already heard AMAZING things about his debut. Seems like a little bit of Eternal Sunshine vibe but I really love this sentence from the Goodreads that makes me even more excited about it – ” offers a unique confrontation of race, class and sexuality during one charged near-future summer in the Bronx.” Sounds like it’s going to be a challenging and thought-provoking novel!
Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon: The main character is literally ALLERGIC to the outside world. How intriguing is THAT? And then a boy moves next door and she knows she’s in trouble because she’s totally going to fall in love with him.
Made You Up by Francesca Zappia: Man, it got me instantly for fans of Wes Anderson & Silver Linings Playbook. I can’t help it. As Goodreads succinctly puts it, it tells the story of Alex, a high school senior unable to tell the difference between real life and delusion.
Even When You Lie To Me by Jessica Alcott: This has a bad teacher vibe but I’m very, very intrigued. Also this brings me back to when I had a mega crush on a teacher in high school (HE WAS YOUNG AND HIS BUTT LOOKED REALLY NICE IN HIS BANANA REPUBLIC PANTS) though acting on it would have never happened and I would have been appalled if he did.
The Night We Said Yes by Lauren Gibaldi: This looks like such a fun book about romance and friendship about a random, fun night that brings a group of friends together and an attempt to relive that night a year later when one of them, who abruptly left town, returns and tries to bring them all back together. It says for fans of Sarah Dessen and Susane Colasanti and it looks like a fun read!
We all Looked Up by Tommy Wallach: So I’ve been RIDICULOUSLY excited about this one since I met Tommy at a Blogger/Author Party at BEA 2014 and he told us about it. An asteroid is plummeting towards earth and all the main characters can do is make the most of the potential time they have left and wait to see what happens.
The Cost of All Things by Maggie Lehrman: Hi, my name is Jamie and if you mention Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind in marketing copy I WILL FORGET IT IS MARKETING COPY TO LURE ME IN AND I WILL BE LURED EASILY/SALIVATING LIKE A DOG. It’s one of my favorite movies!
The Conspiracy Of Us by Maggie Hall: Sort of like a YA Davinci Code which excites me!
A Wicked Thing by Rhiannon Thomas: A re-imagining of Sleeping Beauty that shows what happens after the happily ever after!
None of the Above by I.W. Gregorio: This one sounds so good! It’s about a teenage girl who suddenly finds out at a doctor’s appointment, after trying to have sex for the first time doesn’t go well, that she is actually intersex meaning she looks like a girl on the outside but actually has male anatomy inside. Trying to come to terms with this revelation is hard enough and gets complicated by this information being spread to the whole school.
An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir: Oh man, I was instantly interested when it said it was set in a Rome-like world. YES PLEASE. Plus it’s fantasy which I’ve been getting more and more into. On Goodreads it says it is “about an orphan fighting for her family and a soldier fighting for his freedom.”
When Reason Breaks by Cindy L. Rodriguez: I was sold when it said 13 Reasons Why meets Emily Dickinson’s poetry.
The Sin Eater’s Daughter by Melinda Salisbury: This sounds like an exciting new series! The main character is the Goddess embodied so she kills people with one touch and lives in the castle where she is the executioner of prisoners and is also supposed to marry the prince who is immune to her touch. Sounds action-packed with promise of a romance and kingdoms at war!
Inked by Eric Smith: This is not Eric’s first novel but it IS is first YA novel and I couldn’t be more excited about it! It sounds like quite the unique and exciting high fantasy novel!

This is an awesome list of debuts! Mosquitoland , We All Looked Up, The Conspiracy of Us, A Wicked Thing, and An Ember in the Ashes were all on my list too! 2015 seems like it will be a great year for reading; I’m so excited about all the debuts! Also, I saw how you mentioned you were reading more fantasy books like An Ember in the Ashes this year! I normally don’t read many fantasy novels, but I’ve been trying to pick up more lately as well and I’ve really been loving it- the world building is always so fascinating and unique to each book, and I like how different each story can be. I’ve been reading several like Crown of Midnight and A Game of Thrones and I need to finish those both, but I’m hoping to read some more this year. If you have any fantasy books you discovered and enjoyed, I’d love a recommendation! Contemporary is a genre I read more of in 2014 than I had previously- some of my favorites were Jellicoe Road, Anna and the French Kiss, The Art of Lainey, and Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour. I know you’ve mentioned several of those before, and hearing such positive reviews made me excited to pick up and read the books!

And I def recommend the winner’s curse and also rae Carson’s series which I still do need to finish admittedly but it’s more about me sucking at series than how good it is haha. Also shadow and bone by leigh bardugo!

THE SIN EATER’S DAUGHTER is good; cruel with the feels, and harsh like the Throne of Glass series. I love the sound–and cover–of EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING. I keep debating downloading MADE YOU UP on Edelweiss, but it seems like it’ll be the kind of gritty book I really like. I’ve read a book or two with student/teacher relationships, and EVEN WHEN YOU LIE TO ME looks like it could be a good one. And AN EMBER IN THE ASHES is on my list, too!

I’m excited for all of these! I was surprised to find one that I hadn’t heard of yet (Even When You Lie to Me), but it looks like a great YA contemporary, so of course I’m excited for it (contemporary is my favorite genre). None of the Above is one of the 2015 releases I’m most excited to read. It sounds so different and eye-opening. It looks AMAZING.

I am extremely excited about Everything, Everything, because the premise just sounds SO original! And the conspiracy of Us sounds like a good book too, but the one I’m most excited for seems to be We All Looked Up. I can just imagine the feels…great list, Jamie 🙂

I didn’t realize Mosquitoland is gonna be published really soon. YES. I’m so excited for this one because hellllloooo road trip! And None of the Above sounds frickin’ amazing. It’s not every day you hear about a book with a character that’s intersex. I’m excited to see how the main character deals with this news.
Everybody on this world seem to have read Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda. Gahhhh. I am so desperate for it! I’m just happy though it’s as awesome as it sounds!

I received an ARC of None of the Above, and I thought it was very well done, particularly the way it dealt with an issue that is rather underrepresented in literature.

You should definitely add “The Last Leaves Falling”. I’ve read it last month and by Merlin, is it heartbreaking. I really, really do recommend it.

So many great ones! I already had a lot of these on my list, but I’ve now added several others. I’m especially excited for MADE YOU UP, MORE HAPPY THAN NOT, and SIMON, but sooo many of them look ridiculously good!

I’ve read 1,2,4,9, and 11, and they are SO GOOD. I’m definitely hugely excited for 3,5,6 and 7, and hoping to read WHEN REASON BREAKS this weekend and INKED when it comes out later this month! The one you didn’t list that I think you’ll love is LAST YEAR’S MISTAKE by Gina Ciocca. Gina’s my CP now, and back when we were just reading each other’s stuff for fun I was obsesssssed with that book. It’s literally the only manuscript I’ve ever read twice, and it was the first one I ever read where I thought “I wish I’d written that.” It’s just such good romance.

This is such a fantastic list. Half of these I’m already looking forward to reading when they’re released and the other half I have E-ARCS for which you made me extremely excited to read even more than I already was (More Happy Than Not, The Night We Said Yes, The Cost of All Things).
I agree about the whole Eternal Sunshine thing. 🙂 I read those words and I’m in love. Or lust. One of the tw. 🙂 Everything, Everything sounds so good.
I’m also reading My Heart and Other Black Holes in a few days so I’m anxiously awaiting to read it soon. It’s my most highly anticipated debut. Well, in the top three for sure. Haha. Simon VS The Homo Sapiens Agenda sounds great as well.

I hadn’t heard about the majority of these books, but they sound pretty interesting, especially An Ember in the Ashes, The Conspiracy of Us (I loved The Da Vinci Code!) and A Wicked Thing. Well, more books for my wishlist, because that list isn’t big enough already…
