The Hating Game is one of my favorite romcoms of all time. If you love a good enemies to lovers trope or a workplace romance, read this one!! NOW, as excited as I am about this movie, I am NOT at all getting much chemistry from the trailer but I hope I am wrong??? We shall see soon!!

One of my absolute all time FAVORITE books!!! It’s beautiful and heartbreaking and everything I love about literature. Very excited for this adaptation into a mini-series from HBO-Max. Highly recommend reading it before the series comes out! I will cry if this adaptation sucks haha. The teaser trailer looks good though — it gave me chills!

I am so excited that Netflix will be adapting one of Stephanie Perkins’ books! I’ve loved her contemporary young adult books but this one is the book equivalent of 90’s slasher films. I can’t say it was my FAVE but it was a quick perfect Halloween read that is SO going to be fun on screen. Definitely one of the most exciting YA book to movie adaptations for 2021 for me! And according to Screenrant it’s February!

This is a series I love SO MUCH and I’m excited for it to be a tv show on Netflix despite the fact that the author, Leigh Bardugo, has said it will be pretty different from the books. A great series to binge read!

Jack Ryan universe fans are going to be excited for this adaptation of another Tom Clancy novel in the series. It’s been a long time coming since the rights to this were bought like shortly after the book published.
It was originally supposed to come out September 2020 but was delayed and rights were sold to Amazon for it to be releasing on Prime.

When I read the premise of this book/movie I was like “WOAH that’s intense” and then I found out it’s semi-autobiographical and I was even more fascinated because apparently the author wrote this in jail on a typewriter and is still serving time until November 2020 for some bank robberies. INTERESTING. A reviewer I really trust gave this a high rating so I’m definitely going to check it out!
Apple TV+ acquired the film and it will be dropped there on March 12th after debuting in select theaters in February.

Sci-fi lovers are ya ready?? One of the most popular sci-fi series of all time is coming back to the big screen — there was a movie in the 80’s and a miniseries in 2000. It looks like book 1 is going to be split into two movies from what I’ve read.
It will be part of the Warner Brothers release of of 2021 movies on HBO Max. Apparently Dune is ALSO getting a tv show too focusing on the female characters from the Dune universe!

If you are into crime noir, check this older (more obscure) title out! There is actually a 1940s film noir based on the same book. Very intrigued by this one with Guillermo del Toro at the helm.

I was so excited about this one and then this article happened exposing the author. It is a wild ride. I’m still curious about the book/movie because I’ve heard interesting things about it but I feel so icky about the whole thing he did.
It was supposed to be out in May 2020 but moved to 2021.

This film is based off of the book which was published in 1929 and I was curious if it would be moderned up or follow the same time period as the book and it seems as though it’s going to be set in the past. I’m honestly planning to read this novel after learning about it in my research as I want to read more classics from women authors because all the older books I’ve read seem to be written by men. I think the movie is going to be a thought-provoking and timely one as we as a culture have been talking about race and privilege a lot more. It’s got quite the cast too!!
It premiered January 2021 at Sundance so hopefully we will get it soon!

I am very, very intrigued by this one — both the book series and the show. It’s coming out on Netflix and is a French language tv series. Some of my favorite movies are in French but I’ve never watched a whole tv series in a different language. I watched the teaser for the show and I’m into it.
I also think the book series sounds interesting too! Apparently it’s a classic mystery series so I’m embarrassed I haven’t heard of it!

Another classic crime/mystery novel, from the Golden Age of crime fiction, being adapted to a tv series! According to ITV, this will be releasing in 2021 but no date has been set as they just started filming.
It will be on Britbox which is a video subscription by BBC and ITV which I know for us US folk we can subscribe via Amazon Channels (and watch awesome British tv shows). And then it will be on AMC.

Nine Perfect Strangers

Another Liane Moriarty book being made into a tv show! I couldn’t put this one down (super entertaining read!) so I can’t wait to watch and it’s got an INCREDIBLE cast so I have high hopes. I think it will translate really well to tv.
It will be a limited series for Hulu and filming concluded December 2020. I’ve seen reports it’s still very likely for 2021.
Y: The Last Man

I love the Saga comic series from this author but I haven’t dove into this series but I AM DEFINITELY going to before this tv series premieres on Hulu (it was supposed to be on FX originally). I love a good post-apocalyptic setting and Saga is one of my favorite comics ever SO it’s priority.
Filming got delayed in 2020 and now won’t likely wrap up til summer 2021. So MAYBE we will see it late 2021? Will keep you updated!

I love this series of YA thrillers and couldn’t be more excited for this to come to life as a tv series on Peacock.

Amazon Prime is bringing us The Wheel of Time series and I couldn’t be more excited because I’ve been needing a new epic fantasy series to watch since Game of Thrones ended.
According to this source, Amazon is looking to a 2021 release.

This one was originally supposed to be a March 2019 release date but was pushed backed to 2020 because of reshoots that need to be done according to Indiewire. And then from 2020 it got pushed back for obvious reasons with theaters being closed.
I will be doing a happy dance when this gritty and brutal book to film adaptation FINALLY is out!

I am fascinated by this series. It’s a series of books, written by different authors, in a shared apocalyptic universe. This is the first one for Scott K. Andrews in the series (1st of his trilogy within the larger world of the series).
This one is like Lord of the Flies Meets The Road according to this Guardian review.

Fear Street

I am a total RL Stine nerd! I read all his books growing up and, even when I wasn’t reading as much in high school, his Fear Street books were pretty much the only thing I’d read! He also is a delightful man in person (scary to meet your idols!!) so it makes it all the sweeter!
This is going to be a trilogy of films, originally supposed to start being out in 2020 in theater, but now Netflix has got them and will be releasing them summer 2021 for The Summer of Fear and release them a month apart. I CANNOT WAIT.
A Boy Called Christmas

I went down a RABBIT HOLE reading about this man and his memoir while reasearching this movie for the post. I had never heard of him or his story. He wrote this memoir while detained in Guantanmo Bay.
This was supposed to be on track for a 2020 release but production getting shut down obviously pushed it back. This site and German site Der Spiegel are reporting early 2021. Either way I’d think it likely we see it in 2021.
Nomadland

I have had this travelogue on my reading list for a couple years and I REALLY need to get it. Though honestly the movie looks so fantastic I might watch first because I can’t wait and I LOVE Frances McDormand.

This book to film adaptation (based on a memoir) was supposed to hit in 2020 but got pushed back. Somebody please pass me the tissues already! This looks like a tear-jerker!

Netflix is just scooping up all the superhero stuff! I hadn’t actually heard of this comic series but I’m in the market for some new comic series to get into. Netflix apparently purchased ALL of Mark Millar’s stuff that aren’t already licensed out.
There’s no confirmed date (it was looking like 2020 before) but in April Mark Millar said this so I’m going with 2021!

I hadn’t heard of this comic series from the 70’s but the movie sure has a star studded cast in this addition to the Marvel universe. This one got shuffled around a bit in light of 2020 but hopeful this date sticks.
