Top Ten Tuesday, as always, is hosted at my other blog — The Broke & the Bookish
This week’s topic: You could choose between top ten books in MY beach bag for this summer or top ten books that should be in YOUR beach bag. I’m going to do BOTH because YAY beach reads + it is important to have the right ones to accompany you! You can also check out my YA beach reads list from last year (which also links to another list I made!)
The Art of Lainey by Paula Stokes: I’ve heard from everyone this one is adorbs so YEP perfect beach read.
Behind The Scenes by Dahlia Adler: Hollywood drama! Yes please!
My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick: Everyone says this is a Jamie book. I must read it finally!
Brazen by Katherine Longshore: This said for fans of Reign (AND I AM!!). Scandalous royal drama! Perfect for a beach day!
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simison: An adult fiction book for my beach read list! My friend Jen sent this to me and I know she adored it!
Nantucket Red by Leila Howland: I really enjoyed Nantucket Blue and this will be a perfect beach read for me!
On the Fence by Kasie West: I love Kasie’s books and this boy next door story always gets me because I totally had a boy next door situation but instead of talking through our fences we’d talk in our driveways.
Sugar Daddy by Lisa Kleypas: I think The Book Barbies will kill me if I don’t read this soon and Raquel was sweet and made it very easy for me to by sending it to me!! An adult romance is a good choice for the beach bag!
Anatomy of a Misfit by Andrea Portes: I just got this in the mail and I’m super excited about it. I love misfit stories and it seems cute and funny enough to take to the beach with me. I don’t know much about it so let’s hope it also isn’t a crying book because that’s awkward.
Attachments by Rainbow Rowell: This is the only Rainbow Rowell book I haven’t read and I hear it’s adorable! I’ve loved all 3 books I’ve read of hers thus far sooo here’s to hoping we are 4/4.
You can read my reviews to see why they would make great beach reads!
Open Road Summer by Emery Lord
Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson
All Lined Up by Cora Carmack
To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han
Wish You Were Italian by Kristin Rae (Review to come)
So tell me…which books should be high priority on my list?? Do you have any good beach read recommendations for ME?

Rissi says
Aw, how fun. Love several you think should be in your readers beach bags since they are on my TBR (‘Open Road Summer, ‘Wish You Were Italian’), plus I’m curious about ‘The Art of Lainey.’ I’m also eyeing ‘On the Fence’ as well as ‘The Rosie Project.’
Great list, Jamie.
Danielle @ Love at First Page says
Jamie, I am SO excited for you to be reading the Travises series! Eeeeeeeee! Just you wait, girl. You won’t know what to do with these Texas men. 😉
Emily @ Oh Magic Hour says
YES! I need to read Attachments and it WILL happen this summer. I really need to get to the Matson and Emery Lord books as well! I knew you’d have great picks for this topic.
Kate says
I can’t wait to read Attachments! That’s on the top of my list, for sure. I’m also going to add Since You’ve Been Gone to my list–such a perfect summery cover.
This summer I want to add some classics to re-read like The Blue Castle by L.M. Montgomery and maybe her other book, A Tangled Web. I also like a good mystery during the summer so maybe something like Reconstructing Amelia….
What a good list!
Trina says
Ooo! I just finished Attachments and LOVED IT! Can we just skip to July already so I can get my hands on Landline? Love Rainbow Rowell.
Rachel Patrick says
I have ON THE FENCE on my Kindle and am hoping to get to it SOON. Also, I haven’t read MY LIFE NEXT DOOR or ATTACHMENTS either (twins!), but I’m planning on getting that done this summer. And I need to get my hands on SINCE YOU’VE BEEN GONE–and read her other books! Great list(s)! Happy reading!

Amazing list! I can’t wait to get stuck into To All The Boys I Loved Before and Open Road Summer. I’m currently reading The Art of Lainey! It is cute so far!

Oh man I’m so glad to find out I’m not the only person in the world who hasn’t read My Life Next Door! I plan to read that one this summer too! And you will love On the Fence! It’s VERY cute!
Great picks! Here’s My TTT

What a fun list! I think you’ll love MLND, The Rosie Project and Attachments. I started reading Behind the Scenes and it’s cute!
Enjoy all your summer reading adventures!
Natasha says
Yay The Rosie Project!!! It is sitting on my bookshelf just tempting me to dump all my ARC’s 🙂
Jessica@Lovin' Los Libros says
Wooo! Since You’ve Been Gone is already packed and ready to go! (I leave today!) I agree with every rec! I haven’t read To All the Boys yet though! On the Fence and MLND are also coming with me and I am debating putting Nantucket Blue and Red in my bag! Great list Jamie! I’m so bummed I didn’t see you at BEA!
Ms. Yingling says
I did like Wish You Were Italian a lot… almost as good as traveling there! The whole series is promising. Thanks for mentioned Behind the Scenes. It has a cover very similar to a nonfiction series, so at a quick glance I didn’t know it was a romance.
Ginger @ GReads! says
I literally just squealed when I saw SUGAR DADDY in your beach bag!! Oh Jamie, you are in for a real treat! I love this series SO much.
Becca Jayne says
I loved the Rosie Project! You’ll adore it. I’ve been meaning to read Open Road Summer, so I’ll be adding that one to my TBR. I definitely recommend “Let’s Get Lost” by Adi Alsaid for your Summer reads! It was such an amazing road-trip book – and those are the best kinds of reads!
xo Becca
Lori says
My Life Next Door is so great. I hope you enjoy it. I also LOVE Open Road Summer and am seeing it on so many lists today. I’ll be reading On the Fence and Landline. I’m so excited for all of these summer books!

Great list! I hope you enjoy The Rosie Project and Attachments =D Anatomy of a Misfit sounds really interesting–off to check it out on GoodReads 🙂

Tiffany (AboutToRead) says
The Art of Lainey and Nantucket Blue were both great! My Life Next Door is on my TBR as well.
Lisa (Fic Talk) says
Sugar Daddy is SO GOOD. It was my first Lisa Kleypas book and it was what made me a die hard fan of her work.
MY LIFE NEXT DOOR!! #TeamJase4Ever M’kay? 😉
I am currently read Behind The Scenes and am liking it so far!
I have most of what you’ve listed here on my tbr-list so hopefully I can get to them soon-ish!
Danielle (With A Book) says
Ohhh those are some great beach reads. My Life Next Door is on my list. Loved All Lined Up by Cora Carmack. 🙂 It is awkward to read sad books on the beach. I wonder how many TFIOS I’ll will see on the shore this summer (Not the best book to read in public).
Becky LeJeune says
How did I forget to include THE ROSIE PROJECT in my list?! Agh – there are way too many books I need to read.
Juhina says
I’ve already read three from the ones you are putting in your beach bag. I agree with my life next door and on the fence. Such perfect summer reads! I want to read nantucket red because I liked nantucket blue and it IS a perfect summer read. As for your suggestions.. i’m dying for my copy of since you’ve been gone to arrive and i’m excited for all lined up. As well as Open Road Summer. Wasn’t that interested in Flirting in Italian but since you suggested it, I will check it out. I’ve read to all the boys and AH! I want to re-read it again <3
great post!
nevillegirl says
I keep hearing lovely things about My Life Next Door and Attachments – I need to read them in the next few months!
Tiff @ Mostly YA Lit says
My Life Next Door is a GREAT summer read – it’s so steamy, and it is definitely a Jamie book =) I’ll be reading On the Fence soon as well – I haven’t read any of her other books but I’ve heard great things about them. I didn’t love The Art of Lainey as much as other people did…worth reading, but maybe it was the wrong time for me?
So glad you included Since You’ve Been Gone and Open Road Summer – both AMAZING for me. I really have to get to the new Jenny Han, especially because I just found a letter that I wrote to my high school crush, and I was cringing really badly…I need catharsis!
Jacque says
Awesome list!! So many of these are on my TBR list as well. I’ve only read Fangirl so far by Rowell, but I’ve added all of her books to my TBR list. I plan on reading Landline and hopefully Eleanor and Park by the end of the summer.
I hope you enjoy all of your books this summer!!
Here is my TTT: http://jacquesbooknook.blogspot.com/2014/06/top-ten-tuesday-books-that-will-be-in.html
Katherine @ I Wish I Lived in a Library says
I haven’t read that Kleypas but I love her books. Her historicals are probably my favorite but historicals aren’t for summer! Every book on your list of books that SHOULD be in my beach bag is on my wishlist. They all look great. I’ve passed the Brazen rec onto my daughter. She’s a huge reign fan. Have a great week!
Sash from Sash and Em says
The Art of Lainey – YES YES YES. SO cute.
Irish says
I read The Art of Lainey on the train home form BEA….it was such a cute read I think that you’ll like it a lot. You can also never go wrong with a Kasie West book and now I’m kicking myself for not putting one of hers on my list this week!
My TTT is here.
Sarah Allen says

On the fence was incredibly cute 😀 (coming from someone who hardly reads fluffly contemporaries) Anatomy of a misfit is also on my list. I can’t wait to read Brazen 😀
Emmah says
I finished “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” last week and loved it! And I’m reading “Since You’ve Been Gone” right now and I’m only two chapters in, but I’ve squealed twice haha. ‘Cause she mentioned the “This Car Climbed Mount Washington” sticker and Portland, Maine! Both so close to me!
Jennifer from YA Book Nerd says
Great list! I just read Wish you were Italian too – super fun!
Kristin | My Life as a Teacup says
Attachments was well worth it! It’s probably my favorite of Rowell’s books (though, I’ll be tackling my fourth – “Landline” – this summer myself.
Dahlia Adler says
Thanks for the BtS shoutout! <3 I just just bought ALL LINED UP and can't wait to read it; adored all of Cora Carmack's other NAs. Also love love loved OPEN ROAD SUMMER, SINCE YOU'VE BEEN GONE, ON THE FENCE, and WISH YOU WERE ITALIAN, and just bought TO ALL THE BOYS I'VE LOVED BEFORE; now extra excited for the latter!
Leigh @ Little Book Star says
Anatomy of a Misfit, Since You’ve Been Gone, and On the Fence are definitely on top of my summer reads! Also, I’m planning on reading Rowell’s Fangirl and possibly Eleanor and Park.
Melissa @ Bookmark Dragon says
Oooh, Attachments made my list too! Such a fun book. I predict that you’ll love it as much as you did her other books. This is the first I’ve heard of Brazen, but it sounds delicious. 🙂
Great list!
Jennie May says
I need to read Attachments for sure, definitely need some more Rainbow Rowell in my life this summer! xo
Alexa says
I still have Sugar Daddy and My Life Next Door on my shelves waiting to be read. Maybe this is the summer I pull them down and actually read them!
Great lists!
Stephanie H. says
I loved The Art of Lainey and Attachments. I hope you enjoy both of them! I plan on reading To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before this summer. I have been wanting to read a lot of the books that you have on your list. 🙂
Lakin says
Ooooh, great list! Wish You Were Italian should definitely be in everyones beach bag, and I definitely need to read some of the others!
Wendy says
Oh my gosh, you haven’t read MLND!! You’ll love it and Jase!! Seriously he is the best nice guy ever. I’m also really looking forward to the art of Lainey! Also I got all lined up and since you’ve been gone from BEA and I’m so excited to read them! Also I feel like I’d love open road summer so that’s def going to be on my summer list too!
Chelsea B. says
Most of those are books I am DYING to read!
Hmmm, let’s see. I would recommend: The Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich and The Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella. Both are absolutely, laugh-out-loud hilarious! And, really, what more do you want for a beach read? 🙂
bn100 says
Haven’t read any of these; Abbi Glines?
Sarah says
Ok…pretty much obsessing over all of these amazing books!! Thanks for such an awesome list! Always love Top Ten Tuesdays! 🙂
Rebecca @ Reading Wishes says
I think you’re going to love MLND and Behind the Scenes! BtS is very fun, swoony, and I think you’ll like the love interest 😉 I’ll be hosting a Twitter party for it in a couple of weeks if you’re around/interested. Happy Summer reading, Jamie!
Rebecca @ The Library Canary says
I really need to read some of these! Since You’ve Been Gone was on my list! Yay! And I really want to read MLND. Oh and the Nantucket books. I’ve heard really good things about those!
Leah says
YES to The Rosie Project & omg Jamie GET ON ATTACHMENTS. It’s one of the first books I’ve ever sacrificed sleep for! I stayed up until 4am to finish it, it’s that fantastic. LOTS of 90s nostalgia too.
I seem to be in the minority, but when I think about my beach reads, I’m all about spy thrillers & mysteries! Loads of action, crazy short chapters, and blinding paces keep me entertained without having to think too much.
Jamie says
Ooh do you have any recs?! I’m always looking to change up my beach reading!
