I’ve got 99 problems and finding a bookmark for my current read is most definitely not one of them.
I’ve accumulated QUITE a collection of unique and cool bookmarks over the years and I thought it would be fun to share some of the best bookmarks for books if you are looking to upgrade your basic bookmark.
But here’s my secret reader confession: half the time, despite my extensive collection of bookmarks, I end up with a makeshift bookmark. You know – that scrap of paper, the receipt, the gum wrapper even — that you just haphazardly grab because it’s the closest thing around.
One time I even used a $200 check as a makeshift bookmark and accidentally returned it to the library before cashing it. Luckily, the librarian found it before it went back out.
(Hazards of being a reckless reader and book lover. I am chaotic good).
But I will say, in recent years, I’ve gotten a lot better about ACTUALLY using the beautiful bookmarks I’ve purchased and I much prefer to starting and ending a reading session with one of those pretty bookmarks instead of that random scrap of paper.

FYI the spaces are a bit tiny to write so if you can’t write small these might not be the ones for you.

I’ve been buying the Crafted Van bookmarks for years and they are my favorite plus they REALLY hold up! I’ve had the dessert set and the fantasy set since at least 2016. Seriously such cute bookmarks!!

12 magnetic bookmarks with a sunrise/sunset theme on Amazon. There’s a couple of other themes to choose form. Pretty good value! They aren’t the strongest magnets I’ve encountered in this type of bookmark (Crafted Van ones are the best!) but these do the trick when only using on a couple pages and the value is unmatched for the price!
Amazon honestly has a decent amount of magnetic bookmark sets at a great value! I’ve gotten various ones from this brand too — but I really like the floral ones linked!

These are such cute and high quality magnetic bookmarks! In the set you get the “fell asleep here” bookmark but you get to pick if you want stripes, polka dots, cheetah print or hearts for the second one. You also get to customize the foil color to either gold, silver or rose gold.

One of my favorite bookmarks I ever owned until I misplaced it! RIP! I used to always get compliments on this one when I’d read in public because it’s such a fun and quirky bookmark. The legs sticking out of my book always get a double take.

I LOVE the vintage library card bookmark 🥰 while the quirky « pop up » ones do looks pretty, I feel it’d be too heavy in a way? I also don’t like magnetic ones for the same reason.. it needs to be attached to more than one page as otherwise it’d make it bend 😅
I also have so many bookmarks!! Though I rotate through the same five ahah one of which is a makeshift one- a pretty pen’s paper thing with a gem magnetic bookmark attached to it. I gotta say my absolute favorites are the « cross hobbies » bookmarks, coming from my favorite videogames for exemple.
