Today I’m talking about books that made me cry! I am definitely a crier — just in general! I cry over books, movies, tv shows, commercials….and it makes Will laugh sometimes. Lovingly of course. So I cry often while reading but these are the TOP OF THE TOP. I’ve done this topic before but thought it was time to update so you can check out that post HERE (books like Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close & The Book Thief). So I’m going to refrain from listing those ones here.
The Book of Broken Hearts by Sarah Ockler: Oh man. This was such a sweet book. Loved the father/daughter relationship and I loved the romance that was also in this one. But it definitely made me cry. Highly recommend!
Maybe One Day by Melissa Kantor: I was just reading this recently while babysitting and
pretty much I couldn’t stop crying at the end and I was like, “OMG these children cannot wake up from their nap because I cannot control myself right now.”
If I Stay by Gayle Forman (ALSO, WHERE SHE WENT): Between If I Stay and Where She Went Gayle Forman owns so many of my tears. So many parts in IIS (especially the headphones scene) and WWS = the bridge scene!
Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein: Interestingly I didn’t bawl the first time I read those threeeee little words. (KISS ME HARDY). I teared up but mostly I was just too stunned. But I bawl like a baby when I think of that book now. Great, great historical fiction novel….even if you don’t love YA books!
Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson: This was so many straight pages of me bawling. Will made me STOP reading because I was doing that choking thing when you cry. There are few books (The Book Thief is the only one I can really think of) that have made me cry THIS hard. A lot had to do with how I could very much relate to this with the watching a parent slowly die thing.
Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta: SOB SOB SOB. God, this book. It takes a bit to get into this one but WHEWWWW…the payoff is worth it.
The Impossible Knife Of Memory by Laurie Halse Anderson: I cried like a baby at the end of this one. I really loved this book!
Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell: Ending gutted me. So many feelings.
Where The Stars Still Shine by Trish Doller: I was at the pool reading this and I was crying and had to submerge myself into the water to wash away the tears so nobody could tell I was crying!
We Were Liars by E. Lockhart: I’m not saying anything about this but there was a part and I just burst into tears and curled up in the fetal position.
So tell me…what books have made you cry lately?? (Please tell me because basically I love books that make me cry/damage me/etc.) Any of the ones on my list?

First of all, I totally agree – I always find that one post per day is a good rule, particularly when I’ve spent a good deal of time on the content of said post. Plus, I think it makes it easier for the readers of said blog. It’s difficult enough to keep up with a blog that posts upward of five times a week, but to have to deal with multiple posts per day? Forget about it 😉
I’ve really struggled with these week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic, although I think I’ve finally settled on my final selection. I definitely cry a lot when it comes to film and television (I’ve even been known to cry during Ontario SPCA commercials and reality show auditions like ‘So You Think You Can Dance’) but for whatever reason I find I’m less likely to cry while reading. That said, for someone who doesn’t cry often while reading, I’ve certainly done quite a lot of it already this year, between The Impossible Knife of Memory, Where The Stars Still Shine and Faking Normal! Should I dub 2014 ‘The Year of Tears’? I’m a little worried after reading your list because so many of the books that have made you cry are on my imminent to-read list this year, including The Book of Broken Hearts, Second Chance Summer (I’ve put this book off far too long for fear of this very thing) and Eleanor & Park. I’m scared, Jamie!

OMG YOU AND ME BOTH. I bawl at reality shows all the time. End of a real world season? YEP I’m CRYING. Survivor winner is announced and I liked them? WATER WORKS. GOOOO READ THE CRYING BOOKS NOW!! Especially SCS but beware…I serouslyl went through half a roll of toilet paper with that one. lol. (We are tooo cheap for tissues)

The most recent book I can think off that made me cry is Allegiant by Veronica Roth. I cried so hard near the end and started up again at the very end. I wasn’t expecting it at all! A few of your books are on mt TBR list for this year and I didn’t even realize they might make me cry so now I’m worried… good list though!

I cry all the time too. I’m such a sap! Recently, I read The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky and Life of Pi by Yann Martel, and both made me cry.

YES PERKS. TEARS. I still need to read Life of Pi! Watched the movie bc I was with people and it was their pick so it was UNAVOIDABLE even though I protested that I wanted to read the book first. They didn’t care.

If I Stay made me *bawl*. Like, it was not a few tears. It was a full-out cry fest.
I don’t tend to cry a *whole* lot at books–somewhere in the middle, I think. I think I have 7 books for tomorrow’s TTT, so I definitely cry sometimes, but not at the drop of a hat. You know what always makes me cry, though? Underdog sports movie. I CRY EVERY TIME, even though I don’t even like most sports that much!

ME TOO. I always cry for the underdog in movies. Even in real life sometimes I will get emotional over a win and I DON’T EVEN LIKE SPORTS. So then I yell at Will for making me watch it in the first place.

I’m going to third the underdog sports movie crying. I cry every single time I watch Wimbledon, For the Love of the Game, or Miracle.
I actually didn’t cry that much during If I Stay – I think it almost hit TOO close to home for me (I’m very close to my 7 years younger brother) and just couldn’t let myself fully connect, but I sobbed during Where She Went.
Anyone else a GLEE fan? I cry (happy tears) every time I watch the Original Song episode where they sing “Loser Like Me”. Seriously I have a problem.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who’s become a cry baby when it comes to books. LOL If I Stay made me sob. Broken Hearts totally made me cry, as did Clockwork Princess. I’ve cried in a few books since then, but they were new adult books. I swear the older I get, the more emotional I’m getting in books. LOL

I never used to cry as a teenager but something just broke when my mom passed away. I became a crier. A happy crier. A sad crier. A crier over everything lol. It happened to my stepdad too I think..I had never seen that man cry but after my mom passed he became a very emotional guy..still is today! STRANGE!

I’m totally NOT a crier, so when I do cry it’s usually something that completely wrecked me. Our post is going to go up tomorrow, but I had to hit up the others on the blog to submit some titles because I only had three!! Maybe One Day had me sobbing too – thank god I was home alone!!

OMG yes I cried SO much with Code Name Verity and Jellicoe Road, it was hard to finish both because I couldn’t see properly from all the tears.
Other books that have made me cry a LOT: A Monster Calls, Forbidden, Clockwork Princess.

For some reason, I rarely cry from books! Maybe it’s the books I’m choosing to read, but…? I mean, yesterday I cried from an episode of Sister Wives, so I really don’t understand myself! If something sad happens to an animal in a book, I’m all tears, but besides that… I’m not a crier! I’ll have to see if some of your suggestions evoke some feels for me!

Second Chance Summer was a devastating book, I cried so, so, so much. The book seriously grounded me; and it helped that I went into it without any expectations. Adding the rest to my TBR.

I’m not a crier….unless an animal dies and then I BAWL. But that Kiss Me Hardy scene breaks my heart every time I think of it. I am pretty sure I can never read that book again.

I’m not a crier in reading – I suppose I tend to be a more external reader than internal, though if there’s some great comedy, I do giggle over a sassy retort or what not. However, I do still FEEL the emotion in books, it just takes a lot for the tears to come.

Darnit, I started tearing up the second I read KISS ME HARDY! I also have Verity singing Auld Lang Syne bookmarked in my Audible app for when I need a good cry.. If you haven’t read Rose Under Fire yet, you definitely should!

Oh, the Kiss Me Hardy part always makes me cry when I reread CNV! And Jellicoe Road is such an emotional story. Ockler’s books usually get me all teary-eyed, darn her. 😉

Me Since You by Laura Wiess made me cry! Not a lot, but a little. I’m honestly not a crier, so it’s a big deal when a book makes me cry. I mean, I could’ve cried for that book since it was late at night, but regardless I cried. 😮

I’m reading Maybe One Day right now! I actually haven’t cried yet, but I’m not too far in. I have a feeling that it’s going to be quite the tear-jerker though. I just finished Me Since You by Laura Wiess and that was a serious sob fest. You should read it. I bet you would really like it.

Second Chance Summer was, most definitely, a book that made me CRY! I was seriously sobbing throughout most of it, and just couldn’t stop. It’s so beautifully written, and incredibly moving too.

That bridge scene in Where She Went just about killed me! Jellicoe Road also was so heartbreaking. I definitely found it hard to get into that one, but was so glad when I stuck it out. It stayed with me for a while after finishing the book also.

I want to finish The Book of Broken Hearts so badly. I borrowed it from the library this summer and it had to be returned because i took too long 🙁 I actually have it on my list to buy this weekend when i go to the “big” bookstore because it’s in stock there and I really enjoyed the story when I was reading!!! and YES YES YES to CNV. It’s hands down my favorite book ever. KISS ME QUICK! I actually cried and cried and cried and may or may not have been physically ill because i cried so hard. Perhaps I shouldn’t share that because it’s probably not normal lol. And I got SCS from Melissa for Secret Santa so I’m waiting for the opportunity to read that. Like stay in for a few days type of opportunity. Jamie this was probably my favorite topic in MONTHS! I love love love cry books 🙂 I need to check out some of your others I havent read now!

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes made me bawl my eyes out, but it was SUCH an amazing book! Apparently I am a glutton for punishment because I followed that one with The Fault in Our Stars.

Gah, I need to read ALL of these!! (Well, except Eleanor & Park, that one I’ve read.) But I’m especially looking forward to reading We Were Liars, that book sounds INCREDIBLE. And Second Chance Summer and The Impossible Knife of Memory have been on my to-read shelf (literally, they’re sitting on my bookshelf next to me) for SO LONG. NEED TO READ THEMMMM.

And yet another post where I have read NONE of the choices lol.. I think it’s because I tend to stick to Paranormal stories and most of the bloggers I follow are contemporary fans. 🙂 I need to branch out more and read more contemporary.. i’m working on it! I think starting off reading ones from this weeks Top Ten Tuesday might be a bad choice though lol.. will probably cry wayy to much lol.

*sigh*…YES! The ending of IIS totally shattered me. I ended that book and had a good sob for about 5 minutes. And then…..I call it the “Les Paul” scene towards the end of WSW…ZOMG! ALLLL the tears!
E&P was another one where I had to take a good 5 minutes to compose myself after I finished it. SERIOUSLY…WHAT DID IT MEAN? I think I know…which made me cry even more. Oh Rainbow…she totally knows how to tap into my feels.
I may have to add the rest of these books to my to-read “pile” but will def has to space them out so I don’t spend the next month in tears.

Fellow criers unite! I cry over so many books including a number of ones you mentioned (like The Knife of Never Letting Go!) I think that’s why I’ve been dragging my feet on reading If I Stay, Jellicoe Road and Where the Stars Still Shine. I know I want to read them but I’ve got to prepare myself for the tears.

Finally! Someone has Second Chance Summer on their list! That one made me BAWL like you wouldn’t believe. And I’m really not a cryer in books! I do have an ARC of We Were Liars that I should read AND I really need to try a Trish Dollar book. I guess we’ll see how I feel about those ones! I can get sad and emotional when reading a book, but it’s so rare that I’ll shed actual tears (although, sometimes I will out of happiness!).
