So I found myself with a second copy of Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson — who is one of my favorite contemporary YA authors (seriously go read Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour and Second Chance Summer) — and I figured, “why not share the love for one of my 2014 most anticipated novels with my readers???” Seriously guys. If you are not on the Morgan Matson train at this point…come aboard please! Her books are amazing and just so full of life and beauty and raw human emotions. GAH. I can’t even explain what her books do to me. And out of ALLLLL my favorite authors, I’ve seriously met most of my faves, she is the ONE I have NOT yet met and it kills me because I want to hug her for writing these books that just ME kind of books that really impact me.

I started reading it yesterday and it is FABULOUS already. Since it largely revolves around friendship + a list Emily’s bff, who has mysteriously disappeared, leaves her to help her be brave and get out of her shell, I figured I’d talk about a few of my favorite bffs in literature and tv before we get to the giveaway.
In Books:
Queenie & Maddie from Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein: GAHHHH. Kiss Me Hardy. Seriously, this friendship is one of my tops.
Aria & Roar from the Under The Never Sky series by Veronica Rossi: I’d also throw Perry & Roar in here but I just really loved Aria and Roar’s friendship throughout the whole series. Plus, I always wish for more platonic female/male friendships and this one is PERFECT.
Liesel & Rudy from The Book Thief by Markus Zusak: This is one of my favorite books and GOD this friendship is just one of my favorites ever. The wonderfulness of a young friendship and it was so sweet and beautiful amidst the awfulness going on in the story.
Parker and Kat from Golden by Jessi Kirby: If anything, their friendship reminds me a little of the one going on here in Since You’ve Been Gone! Kat is the more outgoing and free spirited one and Parker is the one who could use some nudging to take chance and be wild and free! I thought they were solid and I loved them! Also, that book….GORGEOUS.
Elise & Vicky from This Song Will Save Your Life by Leila Sales: I LOVED THEM. I want Vicky to be my friend. I loved that Vicky helped Elise become who she wanted to be but not in a “you need to change” kind of way.
Cath & Reagan from Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell: I always kind of love bff stories that start out maybe with not-so instaBFF vibes and I loved watching these two become friends.
From TV:
Christina and Meredith from Grey’s Anatomy: TWISTED SISTERS FOR LIFE. I love the way they are together and how truly they GET each other and love each other — flaws, messiness and all! I love that they are each other’s person and it’s truly been one of the most touching friendships I’ve ever watched because they so strangely fit together and I just want a bff like that.
Wallace & Veronica from Veronica Mars: I just always loved these two from the moment V saved him from the flagpole. They did an awful lot of saving each other’s asses, sleuthing but also being really good friends to each other and opening up. Some of my favorite vulnerable V moments happened with Wallace.
I also have two GROUPS of friends I loved:
1. Golden Girls — my mom and I used to watch this all the time together and when I’m an old lady I want to have friends as bitchin as them.
2. Friends — oh the Friends gang. They are just my favorite to watch ever.

YES to Wallace and Veronica, but I also want to throw Mac in there. All three are awesome. I’m a big fan of the friendships in the Lord of the Rings, particularly Merry & Pippin and Gimli & Legolas. I also love both groups in Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother. As for ya friendships, I love Aria and Roar. Great example non-romantic male-female friendship. For TV, I love Laverne and Shirley – always! They had so much fun together. In books, I actually just started reading Book One of the Ivy + Bean series and I think they are my new favorite. Opposites, but so right for each other. My daughter’s nickname is Bean so there is a bit of a connection there as well. For something further back in my history, I would probably say the sisters in Little Women. Is it cheating that they are sisters? 🙂

I think I’d have to go with Lorelai and Rory from Gilmore Girls. Even though they were mother and daughter, they still had a funny and dynamic friendship. I also like the friendship between Olivia and Huck on Scandal. That show is so amazing and twisty, but their friendship is sweet and they are always looking out for each other.

I looove Morgan Matson’s books! I read Amy & Roger last summer and it was one of my few 5 stars for the remainder of the year.
My favorite group of book BFF’s would have to be the Baby-Sitters Club girls. 🙂 They’re always there for each other-even when boys, eating habits, bossiness, crying, or children get in the way.
TV is definitely Veronica/Wallace/Mac. And also Shawn & Cory from Boy Meets World. Love those guys and their bromance before bromances were popular.

Hmmm…after some thinking, I’ll have to say my favorite book BFFs is definitely Samantha and Tim from My Life Next Door. I know they’re technically not BFFs in the beginning of the book, but I always see them that way, especially after I read the end of the book.

I’m dying to read this book as Morgan Matson writes the most gorgeous stories! Personally, my favorite TV BFFs will always be Xander/Buffy/Willow from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I love how they are there for each other through so much, and they all grow tremendously both apart & together over the course of the series. In books, I love Kat/Parker from Golden and Queenie/Maddie from Code Name Verity, but also, Harry/Hermione and Liesel/Max (The Book Thief) have friendships that capture my heart. 🙂

I have not jumped on the Morgan Matson train yet, sadly, but I do have second chance summer on my kindle waiting patiently for me. I was thinking of reading it while we are on our cruise in May. But then would it would be weird to read a book that takes place in the Poconos when I’m away on vacation in Bermuda? lol Maybe it will help me ease into the feeling of coming back. lol
Best friends in books are awesome. I love when books focus on friendships. I really loved Reagan and Dee from Open Road Summer. They were tight. The one that comes to mind the sharpest right now is Zoe and Olivia from Maybe One Day. I can’t even think about them without getting a little misty eyed. Their friendship is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever read. And it’s realistic, they cracked me up, and made me cry in a metter of seconds, then had me laughing again. Such a great book. So jealous you got to meet the Author not long ago!! 🙂

I DO love Wallace & Veronica. They have one of the most awesome friendships. Just the other day, I was reminded of the episode where she kept making him snickerdoodles for spirit week or whatever and she’s so hardcore NOT a school spirit type girl, but for him, she was. So adorable. I loved their intereactions in the movie, too, and how Wallace’s new role @ Neptune High mirrored him working in the office at getting info for Ronnie when they were in school. I would have to say Queenie and Maddie for sure. Also Juliette and Kenji from the Shatter Me series! Their relationship was one of my favorite things about Ignite Me!

Some of my fave TV BFFs are definitely Jess and Cece from New Girl and Howard and Raj from The Big Bang Theory because they keep me laughing! And in books my FAAAAVE BFFs will always be Roar and Aria from the Under The Never Sky series! Love them!
