This week’s topic: Top Ten Authors You’ve Read The Most Books From
I’ve talked about this a little bit before, but like when I did my A to Z survey, this topic made me realize that I read all over the map. As I’ve said before, I read like I’m at a buffet. I sample this author and that author it seems and thus even the authors I’ve read the “most” from aren’t even that big of a number. Before I blogged I would find an author and read all their books because I didn’t have/wasn’t aware of all that was out there like I am now. I think NOW I’m reading a lot of debut authors and authors who are newer in YA and don’t have a huge backlist yet. So I’m loyal to authors but they just don’t have a huge backlist yet.
Another note, this list is just from when I started Goodreads in 2008 because it’s the only record I have of what I’ve read. If we counted stuff I read as a child and teen then RL Stine and Carolyn Keene (Nancy Drew author) would definitely be my top of the top. I read like everything of theirs.
1. Gayle Forman: This probably surprises nobody that I’ve read all Gayle’s books!
2. Megan McCafferty: This would be because I’ve read all her Jessica Darling books and her book Bumped. I still need to read her Jessica Darling prequel books!
3. Melina Marchetta: I’ve read all of Melina’s books except for Looking For Alibrandi. Her books are all in my ALL TIME FAVES category.
4. John Green: Read all his books! Even the ones he’s co-wrote with people!
5. Judy Blume: What a classic! Loved her books as a kid and love her now!
6. Sarah Dessen: I’ve read a lot less Sarah Dessen novels than most people but I’m working my way through them. So far I’ve read: Saint Anything, Someone Like You, Lock & Key, This Lullaby & Just Listen.
7. Sarah Ockler: I really like her books for the most part. Really enjoyed Twenty Boy Summer, The Book of Broken Hearts and The Summer of Chasing Mermaids. Did not care for #scandal but I know Sarah Ockler fans who totally did.
8. Jessi Kirby: LOVE Jessi Kirby’s books! I’ve read all her books to date! (Golden, In Honor, Moonglass, Things We Know By Heart).
9. Sarah J. Maas: I’ve read the Throne of Glass series and her first book in her new series. CANNOT WAIT UNTIL Queen of Shadows on September 1st!!!!
10. Morgan Matson: I’ve read all of Morgan’s books that she has out! Still need to read her books under Katie Finn though!

Yay for Gayle Forman. Still have to read the second novel to the “If I Stay” duology, but I enjoyed the first. And I read my first Morgan Matson novel this year, and LOVED it. Excited to read more of hers soon.

My most read author of all time is Meg Cabot! There’s 18 books in the main Princess Diaries series. And she just started a middle grade series called “From The Notebooks of a Middle School Princess”, which directly ties in with the Princess Diaries series. So, I’ve read 19 books of Meg’s!
Also most read childhood author? Mary Pope Osborne! She wrote the Magic Treehouse series!

Ah seeee I’ve never read even one of her books! I need to get on that! I feel like none of my authors I read have huge backlists besides like Sarah Dessen!! That’s impressive that you’ve read 19 of an author’s books! DEDICATION.

Sara Shepard has been going strong for 4 years as my most read author, simply because she has so many series and some of them are super long! Lol.

Oh yes! She has sooo many books! I feel like all the series I read are short (trilogies) or all the books aren’t out yet (like Sarah J. Maas series).

So wild how most of these authors could’ve been on my list, especially if I had stuck to more recent times. However, over my lifetime, my TTT is sort of lopsided in favor of more prolific writers rather than especial brilliant authors who might write less. This was a hard top ten for me to figure out just how to decide how to qualify why certain authors made it on the list.

I am sooo curious what my list would look like if I would have kept track of stuff pre-2008. I know it would have included A LOT of childhood series and stuff — RL Stine, Ann M. Martin, Carolyn Keene. WHY DID I NOT KEEP TRACK WAHHH. And I think, like always with TTT, you could go any way you wanted with it/any way that was easier for you!

I was so curious to see which authors I had read the most of even if I don’t take part of the meme, and it surprised me that the top 5 authors I have read the most are not YA authors! But when you think about it, it’s quite true! My most read author is Dame Agatha Christie!

That’s very interesting! I wish I would have had some way to keep track of what I read pre-Goodreads in 2008. I think my list would have been sooo different! Although I still don’t think even with adult books I read sooo many of one author.

I love Jessi Kirby, too, btw. Colleen Hoover tops my list together with Richelle Mead. I’ve read 12 books from each.

I just read Just One Day for the second time last night, but other than that and If I Stay I haven’t read much Gayle Forman. Although I definitely would like to. I have Where She Went sitting on my shelf, and would also like to read I Was Here.

Where She Went might have even been my fave out of IF I STAY and that. Honestly it was so good. I really loved I Was Here but in a different way than I did the others. It’s a lot darker.

Great list!! I’m currently working my way through John Green and Sarah Dessen’s books, but I haven’t read enough yet for them to make my top ten list. Gayle Forman and Sarah Maas are both on my TBR list. Hopefully I will get to them soon!!

Great list, Jamie! I wish SJM was on my list but I suck at finishing series and I really need to start doing that. I’m also pretty sure that I’ve forgotten A LOT of authors on my list. haha. But Sarah Dessen did make it on to my list! 🙂

Haha, I didn’t include the Nancy Drew books either, as I’m pretty sure I read over a hundred of those. The Boxcar Children books too. Good times!
And I am hoping to read more Sarah J. Maas and Melina Marchetta. I’ve started both the Throne of Glass series and the Lumatere Chronicles and really enjoyed them, but haven’t finished yet. I’d kind of like to wait on the Throne of Glass series until all the books are published, so I can just binge read them, but I don’t think my patience will last that long. 😉
