New To the Queue is going to be a sporadic thing around here wherein I tell you some of the books, movies, tv shows and bands I’ve recently added to my never ending queue of things to read/watch/listen to. For past posts, go here!

Hold Me Like A Breath by Tiffany Schmidt (Amazon // Goodreads)
Publication Date – May 19, 2015
Why I Added It To My To-Be-Read list: When Tiff started talking about it at an event recently I swear the whole room was like OH MY GOD GIVE THIS TO ME NOW.
What It’s About: It is the start of a series of crime family fairy tale retellings. OMG RIGHT? This one is a retelling of Princess & the Pea and the main character’s family is one of 3 families who control the black market of organ transplants.
More Than This by Patrick Ness (Amazon // Goodreads)
Publication Date- 2013
Why I Added It To My To-Be-Read list: I’ve been meaning to read his books and it seems like a book I would like based on things people have said. PLUS Lisa is a major fangirl.
What It’s About: I don’t REALLY know but I’ve been told to go in kind of blind so I’m listening and not really looking.
Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel (Amazon // Goodreads)
Release Date: September 1, 2014
Why I Added It To My To-Be-Read list: I saw it pop up on Goodreads one day and I like apocalypse-y kinds of books.
What It’s About: I don’t really know. I know we see the apocalypse and there’s an actor who dies on the night that everything goes to shit and it flips from past to present. IDK the summary sounded REALLY good soooo I don’t care if I don’t really know.
The Warrior Heir by Cinda Williams Chima (Amazon – As I write this is 99 cents for Kindle // Goodreads)
Release Date: 2006
Why I Added It To My To-Be-Read list: Because ever since I binge read the Throne of Glass series and got hooked on fantasy EVERYONE has been hounding me to read this series!!
What It’s About: A boy founds out he is actually part of a magical peoples that live among the normal humans. There are feuding houses and a magical tournament and warriors!!
Why I Added It To My Netflix Queue: I saw it when I was scrolling Netflix and I was like WHY YES I WOULD LIKE A PARANORMALY SHOW TO WATCH WITHOUT WILL BECAUSE HE HATES THAT STUFF.
What It Is About: “Sent to a seaside enclave to look into a suspicious death, FBI agent Audrey Parker discovers the town is a haven for people with paranormal abilities”
Why I Added It To My Netflix Queue: I was looking something up on Fandango and I saw this in the coming soon section.
What It Is About: “Mia Wasikowska is affecting as adventurer Robyn Davidson, who crossed the Australian desert alone — and on foot — in 1977. Drawn from Davidson’s memoir, this drama depicts her arduous journey and explores her reasons for undertaking it..”

Why I Added It To My Netflix Queue: It keeps popping up under documentary suggestions for me and I always do love an interesting documentary and Netflix knows that.
What It Is About: “Critics called her delusional. Child welfare agents tried to intervene. But Laura Dekker would not be denied her shot at sailing round the world. This documentary captures the 14-year-old’s solo feat through footage she shot on her two-year voyage.”
Sir Sly- You Haunt Me
Why I Added It To My Musical Rotation: I had listened to a couple of their singles and was waiting with anticipation for the whole album to come out and IT DID on the 16th. BEST PART is that I saw them live last weekend with Grouplove, Wolf Gang, Brick + Mortar and Vance Joy and fell even MORE in love!! Favorite songs thus far: You Haunt Me, Gold, Ghost, Too Far Gone
Brick + Mortar – Bangs
Why I Added It To My Musical Rotation: Back in August 2013 I heard one of their singles and added it to my playlist for that month but kind of forgot to check back when there album was out. THEN this year I heard a 2014 single from them and THEN I found out they were playing at the show I mentioned above with Grouplove/Vance Joy/Sir Sly/Wolf Gang and so I added their 2013 album to my queue in preparation. Favorite songs: Honestly I started to list them and it was all of them except Terrible Things.
Banks – Goddess
Why I Added It To My Musical Rotation: OMG I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ALBUM!! I was obsessed with Change & Waiting Game when I heard them & added them to my October 2013 playlist. Then I devoured every single. FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY. Fave songs: Change, Waiting Game, You Should Know Where I’m Coming From, Beggin For Thread

AHH YES! More Than This is so, so good! I agree to go in blind- it’s better that way ;D
I’m ALWAYS looking for new music, so I’m going to go check out those bands like right now!
Jamie says
Okay good! Going in blind is my ultimate plan then!!
Hope you enjoy some of the music!! Do you follow me on Spotify/have Spotify?? I have so much music on there! Or I can give you specific recs if you let me know what you like!
Rosie @ Rosie Reads says
I wasn’t sure if I was following you or not on Spotify, but turns out that I am, haha! I’m ‘rosierage’! I like almost all things, recommend away! 😀
Danielle says
I ADORE Haven! Seriously, it is SO GOOD. And the two male leads are so super swoon-worthy. 🙂
Jamie says
Oh this makes me happy bc I hadn’t heard much about it from Twitter which is where I normally find allll my shows haha.
erin says
Just finished season four on netflix. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE AND LOVE.
Also Ditto to Danielle.
Leigh says
Woah Hold Me Like a Breath sounds really cool! Too bad it’s not out till next year. Idk what More Than This is about too, but I really want to read it because I heard Patrick Ness’s books are amazing.
Jamie says
I KNOW. The wait is excruciating for such an awesome sounding book! YES I always hear that about EVERY single one of his books.
Sarah C. says
I have been listening to Sucre’s new EP Loner; it’s amazingly beautiful. And I recently added Silver Linings Playbook to my Netflix queue. And I just added Hold Me Like a Breath to my to-read list! Thanks for the recommendation!
Jamie says
Ooh must check out the new EP! Thanks for the heads up!
LOVED Silver Linings Playbook omg!! And even my husband liked it and we rarely agree on movies haha. I hope you love it!! I have such a soft spot for it too because it’s set in my area and it’s SO true of a lot of native Philadelphians…especially when it comes to the football fan aspect haha
Sarah C. says
Thanks! I’m sure I’ll love it too! I’m a fan of Jennifer Lawrence, and that’s cool to hear that it does fairly accurately represent that part of the country; I always wonder about things like that when I watch films. 🙂
Anne @ booksbakingandblogging says
Oh my God, Hold Me Like a Breath (and the series) sounds like the best thing EVER. Definitely going to want to read that when it comes out!
I didn’t know there was an English documentary about Laura Dekker. I remember her and the whole shebang about her wanting to take that trip. It was quite a big thing here in the Netherlands back then. The summary sounds really dramatic and romantic and stuff, but I remember just thinking she was really annoying and spoiled, tbh! Haven’t seen the documentary though, so I don’t know all *that* much about her.
Jamie says
right?? I forget how it came up during the panel but I swear everyone stopped breathing and was like OMG THAT IS THE BEST EVER.
Haha I’m just SO curious about her!! I mean, it’s fascinating to me!! God, at that age my mom barely let me go to the mall by myself lol
Trina says
It is so funny to me that people have been recommending The Warrior Heir to you recently. I had never ever heard of it until the BookTubers picked it for their Booksplosion book of the month for August. Even with their reviews, I’m just not really feeling it. Can’t pinpoint why. If you read it, please let me know what you think and if you’d recommend it!
Also, ooooooohhhh my goodness, Hold Me Like a Breath sounds great!
Jamie says
It’s funny because I remember when I first started blogging back in 2010 lots of people were loving this series but I was JUST getting into YA and fantasy was sooo not in the realm of things that I read so I just kind of ignored it. I *think* there is like a new sequel coming out so maybe that’s why Booksplosion picked it?
I will def let you know what I think!
And I knowww. I was like TIFF I NEED THIS. Also, she’s local so maaaaybe in the spirit of crime I’ll steal it 😛
Trina says
Ohhh, that would make a lot of sense that a sequel is generating all the sudden hype around The Warrior Heir. I know it has a lot of fans, but I was surprised it had been around so long without me knowing much about it. But, I feel like book marketing has come a long way in the past few years.
Angie says
YES HAVEN YES YES YES YES
Jamie says
I love this enthusiasm when I’m thinking about a new show!! It gets me all excited!!
Annie says
Ooooooh Maidentrip is good! I went to go see it in theatres and I was so captivated. She’s such an inspiring person and a great role model! And Hold Me Like A Breath sounds crazy good. I added it to my TBR because who doesn’t like fairy tale retellings esp. if it involves crime?
Emmah says
One book I’ve recently added to my TBR: “The Fill-In Boyfriend” by: Kasie West
One tv show I’ve added to my must watch list: Red Band Society! I’ve already watched the first episode, but it was so good and I’m hooked! I can’t wait for the rest of the season!!
Singers/Bands I’ve added to my music rotation this month: Dan + Shay and Meghan Trainor!!
You should definitely check out the tv show Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D! And on Netflix, you should check out GREEK and The Fosters! Oh, and Chasing Life whenever it gets put up!!
Tiffany says
Hey Jamie!
I just wanted to let you know that I have nominated you for the One Lovely Blog Award! You can find more information on my blog HERE. Feel no obligation to accept, I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your blog! :]
<3 Tiffany
Tiff @ Mostly YA Lit says
I really like your music recs every time, Jamie – and thank you for posting the Amazon links instead of just Spotify – us sad Canadians can’t get into Spotify. I’m liking the Sir Sly album. Banks sounds a lot like Lorde – or maybe it’s the other way around?
I’m so glad you mentioned Station Eleven – I just saw it on a list of fall books and found it a really intriguing synopsis as well – I immediately put it on my TBR as well. =)
Tara @ Running 'N' Reading says
GAH! Thank you for reminding me about Banks! I meant to download this yesterday and got distracted. Also, I think Station Eleven is going to be the next book I read…I’m REALLY interested in that one, too! Thanks for sharing, Jamie!
Kayla @ The Thousand Lives says
Oh oh The Heir Chronicles is fabulous! But it is set in a modern world, so if you’re looking for high fantasy like Throne of Glass I recommend Chima’s other fantasy series, The Seven Realms. SO good!
Tamara says
Before my images loaded I thought for sure Hold Me Like a Breath was The Sisters Grimm! (A finished series that I LOVE) So I guess I’ll have to check that book out!
Miss Print says
Lots of great new things here. As a die-hard fan I can attest that Haven is worth a watch!
Mel@thedailyprophecy says
I wasn’t aware Haven was based on a book by Stephen King! That’s cool. I need to check it out, because I’m addicted to Netgalley (started my subscription last month) I will be reading The demon king soon, so I can finally see the magic from Cinda. More than this was a mind fuck!
Karla says
The Warrior Heir was good, but Cinda Williams Chima’s other series, starting with The Demon King is really good. There are 4 books in the series and you will not want to take breaks between them. It’s about a matriarchal society where a young princess and a wizard are both destined for great things. Saying anything else might give away too much.
Kaitlin @ Reading is My Treasure says
Hold Me Like a Breath looks so GOOD. I love that cover!
Tori says
I got The Warrior Heir on Kindle when it was $.99! I can’t wait to read it. I’ve been wanting to get into fantasy lately, and I figure Throne of Glass and Cinda Williams Chima is a good place to start. I’ve been meaning to read More Than This since it came out, but I’ve never gotten around to it. I bought The Chaos Walking trilogy (all three books–they were so pretty!) and I’m hoping to read those soon as well 🙂 Great haul/new to the queue! <3
