Time for another edition of Reshelved in which I share what books I’ve put down lately and which ones I sadly had to take back to the library unread! Check out past Reshelved posts here!
It’s been quite a while since I’ve done one of these posts. I haven’t been putting down a lot of books lately! So the ones I’ve put down were pretty much because I was reaaaally struggling to get into them or, in the case of one, a “not in the mood for this” kind of thing.
Put Down
Preacher Book 1 by Garth Dennis and Steve Dillon: I was really excited to start this comic after I heard that AMC was making it into a show. I got about halfway in and I was just not into it at all. I think it’s going to make an interesting show but I just couldn’t get myself excited about the comic even though I thought the plot was fairly interesting. I’ll be checking out the show but I think I won’t continue on with the comics.
Ash & Bramble by Sarah Prineas: I was so stoked about this fairytale retelling but I had the hardest time finding myself getting into it so I would delay picking it up when I had any reading time. It was just ridiculously boring when I was expecting this dark and awesome retelling. I wasn’t into the characters much either.
Revenge and the Wild by Michelle Modesto: This one isn’t one I put down because I wasn’t into it or didn’t like it but just I wasn’t at all in the mood for this type of book. It’s a mishmash of genres and normally I’m into that but I just was feeling like I wanted something else. I definitely plan on getting back to this one because it was it’s like this awesome mix of a Western and fantasy and all sorts of other cool stuff.
Went Back To The Library Unread
(not because I didn’t WANT to read them but I stink at reading things when I’m supposed to)
I have done SOOOOO well with my library books lately! I’ve been so proud of myself because I only have one book I returned unread in the past 6 months — and I’ve gotten quite a few books out!
A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara : I was SOOOOO excited to read this one. I was on the waiting list for FOREVER and then it finally came in….at a bad week. I was sooo busy and it’s a thick book and I just didn’t have the time to read it. I plan to add myself back to the list soon but I may just end up buying it so I can take my time with it.
Did you feel differently about any of the books I put down? Or maybe feel similarly and also put it down?

I also got A Little Life from the library at a bad time. I had it overdue for a week before I just bought it. It’s been so nice to be able to take my time with it. Definitely worth it!

I haven’t actually read any of the books you have listed, but I feel your pain on not reading something within a time limit. I’m horrible at reading the library books I check out. Thankfully… (or maybe sometimes not so thankfully)… my local library isn’t very popular so the books I check out are never on hold for anyone else and after I’ve renewed them as many times as I can myself, I just call and the librarian renews them again.
I think it’s becoming a running joke among the library staff.
There are definitely too many books to read to waste time on ones that aren’t just fantastic. Every now and then I’ll finish a book that I know is going to be a 1 or 2 because I’m SO CLOSE to the end and I want the reading stat. ;P Otherwise though, I DNF like nobody’s business.
Glad to see you haven’t had too many books to put down! I hope it continues to be that way! (Reading slumps are the worst).

I’m terrible about library books. I’ll go without reading any for a while and then suddenly remember the library exists, and take out/request SO MANY. I never can finish them all in time.

That’s too bad about Ash & Bramble! I think I was a bit of a “positive black sheep” on that one haha. I struggled with the first couple chapters but then I really got into the story. If you ever try again and make it through the first 50 pages, it gets really good and it does get dark. I enjoyed it. I haven’t read the others but you know I return so many books unread! Always makes me sad but oh well. I can always check them out again someday 🙂

I read Preacher when I was a teen and loved the whole series. I’d be interested to reread it now to see if I’m still so into it!

Wow! You’re only returned one library book unread in the last 6 months! I return about 5 unread every week. This week I returned As Close to Us As Breathing, Mr. Fox, The Ghosts of Heaven, The Walls Around Us, and Mr. Lemoncello’s Library Olympics.

It’s so hard to take books back to the library, right?! I always find myself discovering a new book, get excited about it, order it through the library, and when I finally get ahold of it…nope. Either not interested, not what I thought it would be, or no time. I did the same with the Preacher series recently. I’ll wait for the show. Also did the same with Ash and Bramble and also Shallow Graves by Kali Wallace. Started them both and they just didn’t hold my interest for very long. I HATE labelling any book DNF! It’s like I’m saying I’ve just given up on it. I like these posts since it’s nice to see someone else who uses the library and also explains why they reshelved a book.
