This week’s topic: Top Ten Authors I’ve Only Read One Book From But MUST Read More!!
I decided to only focus on authors who had multiple books out already rather than debut novelists because there are SO many debut authors I NEED TO READ MORE BOOKS FROM…but they aren’t actually out yet!
1. I read This Song Will Save Your Life from Leila Sales and I’ve heard SUCH good things about the rest of her books. Considering that This Song was one of my favorites of last year I’m surprised I haven’t gotten my butt into gear and started her other books! Also did you see the new paperback cover for this book??
2. I just recently read Everything Leads To You by Nina LaCour and I KNOW I have to read her other books! That book was BEAUTIFUL!
3. It’s my mission to read all the books from Courtney Summers after having read Some Girls Are. Her words just pack a punch and all her books look SO different! Very interested in her zombie book!!
4. Julia Quinn is the first historical romance author I’ve read and I REALLY loved The Duke & I. Cannot wait to read more books in this series and beyond!
5. My first encounter with Catherine McKenzie was through her book Arranged and it was the PERFECT beach read — light, romantic but also made me think a little! I really want to read her other books especially Spin & Forgotten!
6. Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick is SO underrated and I just know that I need to read more of his books. Especially because he seems to keep setting them in my city and I LOVED the Silver Linings Playbook movie.
7. I don’t know why I didn’t do whatever it took to get my hands on Cath Crowley’s other novels after reading Graffiti Moon but FOR SHAME. I especially want to read A Little Wanting Song. I think my issue is that they are only pubbed in Australia. I THINK that’s why I didn’t immediately buy it. I think I need to make a Fishpond order.
8. Okay so I LOVED Raw Blue from Kirsty Eagar and when I read this I saw that she had two more books out but they were paranormal and at that point I wasn’t really open to reading much paranormal. I KNOW I need to read more from her because I’m sure her paranormal is just as awesome as her contemporary.
9. Joshilyn Jackson writes women’s fiction (I guess that’s the term people use? Chick lit? IDK) and I really liked her novel Backseat Saints but haven’t read any of her other books yet but really want to read Someone Else’s Love Story!
10. I’m hoping to slip this one on here last so maaaaybe none of you are still paying attention. That’s right….since last year I STILL have only read book 1 of the Harry Potter series and I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW.. I have to get to like book 3 to REALLY get into the series (or so I hear from everyone) and then I’ll understand the goddess that is JK Rowling. It’s not that I didn’t like book 1…I just haven’t had time/felt compelled enough to devour the next one. SOMEONE LOCK ME IN A ROOM WITH JUST THAT SERIES (I realize maybe that’s not a good idea to tell strangers on the internet to lock you in a room. Isn’t that the stuff Lifetime movies are made of??)
So tell me…which author should I make my priority to read a second book from (besides JK Rowling because I KNOW YOU ALL AND THAT WILL BE YOUR NUMBER 1)? And tell me which book I should read next from any of these authors if you have read them!

I’ve been meaning to check out more from Matthew Quick; I read his latest novel, The Good Luck of Right Now earlier this year and quite enjoyed it 🙂
Ditto on Julia Quinn…and I’ve been meaning to read JK Rowling’s books outside of HP but just haven’t gotten around to them…yet… xD

I definitely need to read more from Matthew Quick. I think his writing is fabulous. I agree with others, Harry Potter does pick up pace from Book 3 onwards. I haven’t read any Nina LaCour yet, but I can’t wait to pick up her books!

HUHHH, you haven’t read J.K. Rowling??? That’s so not done. I’ve read the whole series more than 10-15 times, though haven’t picked it up in the last 3-4 years.
And even I’ve read only one book by Julia Quinn, Just Like Heaven and I enjoyed it too. So you can try it!

I’ve heard some pretty great things about Matthew Quick’s books, I still need to check him out! Haha, I have to admit I love the Harry Potter series, but you’ll enjoy them much more if you read them because you want to read them – enjoy them in your own time, and if you’re never a huge fan of them that’s fine, too. You don’t have to like something just because everyone else does. 🙂

Haha, I totally saw JK Rowling on your list, and I do agree, you should absolutely read more. I’m trying to not get all YOU NEED TO READ THE BOOK NOW, but that isn’t helpful (although I totally did just get like that without meaning too – sorry!). But yes, book three will be the one to hook you. It did that for me. I read HP when I was in high school at a time when there were only three HP books, and it wasn’t as popular as it became. Also, teenagers did not read kids book at that time. So I understand how it might take you a tiny bit to be hooked. But book three will do it.
Also, YES to Julia Quinn! She is amazing! One of my favorite historical romance writers (and just writers in general). You have to get to Romancing Mr. Bridgerton because holy cow that book is amazing. But you should read books 2 and 3 first to truly appreciate the awesomeness that is Romancing Mr. Bridgerton.

I still have to read the final book in the Harry Potter series, but I did enjoy the first 6 books. My only excuse for not reading it yet is… I have the hard cover and it is HUGE. It doesn’t fin in my purse as easily as my nook.

I recommend Hold Still by Nina LaCour to everyone, and to be honest, I liked it and The Disenchantments better than Everything Leads to You. Though, of course, everything she writes will be read by me.
As for J.K. Rowling, I’m reading Harry Potter for the first time. Right now, I’m over half way through fourth novel in the series. If you do continue reading, keep in mind that the second book is the worst in the series, in my opinion, and in the opinion of many people I know and those on Goodreads. You might find it harder to get into than the first novel, but it is true what they say, book three is much better.

YES you need more from Nina LaCour! I’ve read Hold Still and Everything Leads to You, and loved both. I still need to read The Disenchantments, but at least it’s waiting on my shelf for when I’m ready!

Courtney Summers!!! I love her! Some Girls Are was my fav of hers and you’ve read that, but Cracked Up to Be and This is Not a Test are good too. They just revealed the cover and first chapter for her new one, All the Rage, and I’m DYING to read it!

If you are into crime novels, you should definitely give JK Rowling’s adult mystery series a try! The first book (The Cuckoo’s Calling) had pacing problems to me, but the second book (The Silkworm) is one of my favorite books of this year.
Also, in terms of Harry Potter, along with what everyone is saying about book 3… I totally was under the impression that HP was “Baby stuff” when they were super popular in high school. I went to the first two movies with my younger cousin, and then I picked up book 3 on a whim and was like ‘this is the same series?!’ So I started with book 3 and never read books 1 and 2 until years later!

I’m actually relieved to see someone who’s read less of Harry Potter than me. I just finished book 5 and I like them, but the last books are LONG.

I’d actually add Courtney Summers to my list. I have only read 2 of her books (TINAT and Some Girls Are) and loved both SO FREAKING HARD, and I just need to read the rest of her books.
I have 2 books by Nina Lacour and haven’t read either yet D:
On my list: Sarah Rees Brennan (only read Unspoken and loved it hardcore), Hilary T. Smith (Wild Awake was amazing), Melina Marchetta (Jellicoe Road is one of my faves), Kendare Blake (Anna Dressed in Blood duology rocked my socks and my heart) and there was someone else but I forgot woops.

I loved Someone Else’s Love Story – you should definitely read it! And, I’m also with you on J.K. Rowling – I’ve only read the first Harry Potter! I should have put that one on my list 🙂

I haven’t read some of those authors, but yes to Julia Quinn. If you liked that book, than I’m sure you’d like more in the series.

I loved Graffiti Moon, I have not read anything else by her either. JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series I loved but I have yet to try one of her other books. I worry about reading them and being disappointed. Maybe eventually!

I love Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series! I haven’t read them all yet, and The Duke and I is my personal favorite, but besides it, I like An Offer from A Gentleman best. It’s such a perfect Cinderella-esque tale.

You know, I don’t consider myself a contemp reader, but I’ve read one book by three authors on this list (Leila Sales, Courtney Summers, and Cath Crowley) and would love to read more as well!
