I’m so excited to have Kari Luna, author of The Theory of Everything, on the blog today! I’ve been excited to read this one every since I saw it in the catalog at the beginning of the year and I’ve just started it last night!

How To Make A Mixtape That Will Make Him or Her Melt Into A Massive Puddle by Sophie Sophia
1. Think about the object of your affection. Short? Tall? Wears the best Buddy Holly glasses? In love with Love and Rockets?
2. Do a reign-dance. This consists of running around in circles and flailing your arms. It’s a lot like a traditional rain dance, only this one brings in love.
3. Did you fall for number two? HA HA HA. That was a joke. Stop dancing and start putting those songs together.
4. Include tunes that make you swoon. It doesn’t matter whether it’s The Ramones or Thee Headcoatees, The Shins or Vampire Weekend. What matters is what the songs mean to you.
5. I would say think about the order, but on a tape like this? When you’re practically hypnotized by your feelings? You’ll know.
6. Deliver the tape, but act like it was something you threw together. You know, whatever. I like this mix and thought you might, too. Talk to ya later.
6. Wait for a sign. Birds singing, rainbow sparkles up and down your spine, that thing that lets you know they came. They listened. They melted.

One of the best mixes I ever made, was back before I had an ipod, and had to buy a bunch of cds to burn a mix cd. It was for my dad (who I never see) and had a ton of songs, about how he isn’t there for me, like For You from Staind and Father of Mine by Everclear. It was epic.

One song that would be on my swoon-mix would by “Such Great Heights” by Iron & Wine. While I love the Postal Service mix, the original is so slow and sweet. I first heard it at my brother’s wedding – it was the song for their first dance. I wanted to use it at my wedding, but it would have been a little too copy cat, so I opted for “Angel” by Jack Johnson, another song on my swoon-mix.

I have made an embarrassingly large amount of mixes in my day, and I have to say, my favorites have to be the ones I make for long trips. I have to have a playlist, and they normally consist of songs that make me dance as I’m walking through the airport.

When my husband and I first started talking, we were in a long distance relationship. We would send each other songs we really liked and wanted the other to hear. My favorite one I sent him would have to be Blinded by Third Eye Blind. It’s not a traditional love song, but it’s so emotional and turned out he loves it as much as I do.

The best mix I’ve ever made would either be the deployment mix I made for when my hubby was deployed (angry, sad, happy, the works) or my son’s mix. Lots of incredible Disney jams mixed in with some Beatles, and other classic jams.

Oh my gosh, I am like the mix tape (cd) queen amongst my friends. I’ve never made one for a boy, but I think almost every one of my friends has a mix cd from me chronicling some sort of story or feelings. I’m a HUGE music fan, so I have a lot of fun making mixes (I have tonnnnnns of playlists on my computer for different moods/people). My favorite mix that I’ve made is one that’s all about love. There are about 50 songs on it, and they’re all the songs that make me feel warm and fuzzy/remind me of the people I love.

The song I’d definitely include into a mix for someone special would be Best Coast’s When I’m With You. It’s not a traditional love song but that’s what I like about it. It’s pop-ish and fun and cute! And the lyrics are so simple yet they still ring true!

I had this favorite mix tape that I would play whenever I needed a jolt of energy. It was completely old school. Break my stride by Matthew Wilder, If love was a train by Michelle Shocked, Ship of Fools by World Party, Church of the Poison Mind by Culture Club and Girls on Film by Duran Duran are the ones I can remember. This mix tape always made my heart beat faster. I can’t wait to read this book.

I’ve been following this whole blog tour because the lists areso amusing and I adore this one, especially step two. The Theory of Everything looks so cute and quirky, and the prizes being handed out are equally so.
Because I can never think of any good songs when I am actively trying to do so, I would probably make an ironic mixtape of cheesy pop songs-both currently and formerly popular. You may think it would be a pain to listen to, but you would eventually start singing along.

I burned CD’s for everyone at my wedding and gave them out some of our favorite romantic songs including an original tune by my husband. He sang the song as I walked down the aisle
