This week’s topic: Top Ten Authors Who Deserve More Recognition
1, 2, & 3: In the contemporary YA world I feel like Jessi Kirby (author of Golden, In Honor & Moonglass), Morgan Matson, (author of Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour & Second Chance Summer) & Trish Doller (author of Something Like Normal) need more recognition. I mean, they are all very popular in the book blogging world for contemporary lovers but I feel like they deserve much more recognition outside of it.
4. I feel like, while Sarah Ockler garnered a lot of recognition for Twenty Boy Summer when the whole Scroggins book banning scandal happened, she deserves a lot more recognition for her other wonderful books — the latest of which, The Book of Broken Hearts, I loved!!
5. When I read Audrey, Wait! by Robin Benway it prompted me to make a shelf on Goodreads called “WTF WHY IS THIS NOT MORE POPULAR?” I think she is one of those authors who definitely deserves more recognition for her books which always seem to make me laugh or smirk (Also Known As).
6. I’ve only read Ballads of Suburbia by Stephanie Kuenhert but after that I felt like Stephanie’s books were something special and found a lot of people I talk to/commented on my review had never heard of her books which makes me SAD.
7. I don’t read a ton of paranormal but I love Jeri Smith-Ready! I feel like her books are SO much better than a lot of the popular paranormal series out there now that teens are scooping up!
8. There’s a lot of popular Aussie authors in YA and I feel like Kirsty Eager is one that doesn’t get as much recognition here in the US and she totally deserves it!
9. I just read my first Catherine McKenzie (Arranged) book recently and I feel like she deserves WAY more recognition than she has in the “chick lit” realm.
10. Jillian Larkin’s Vixen series I feel like got overshadowed by Anna Godberson’s Bright Young Thing series because they came out around the same time and Anna already had a popular series out. Jillian Larkin is FABULOUS!
So tell me…have you read any of the authors on my list? Agree with me on any of these? What are some authors YOU think deserve more recognition that I may not have heard of before?

I’m so happy to see that you included Robin Benway on your Top Ten Tuesday list this week as well! I’ll never be able to understand why her work ins’t more popular. I just want to shout about my love of Audrey, Wait! from the rooftops, and your Goodreads classification of it is such a wonderful idea. She deserves far more recognition than she is given!
I’m intrigued that there are quite a few authors on this list whose work I’m unfamiliar with – I’m particularly interested in checking out that of Catherine McKenzie as her books have always sounded like something I would enjoy and your recent review only emphasized this further as we often seem to enjoy the same sort of book 🙂 I had never heard of Jeri Smith-Ready or Stephanie Kuenhert prior to this entry but I’ll be sure to scamper over to Goodreads right away!
Great choices this week, Jamie! 😀 I love that many of them were authors whose work I had never heard of before, it was a real treat to learn about them for the first time.

I love Morgan Matson! Especially Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour. I haven’t read any of the others on this list. Isn’t that terrible! I especially want to read Kirsty Eager.

Morgan Matson, Jessi Kirby and Sarah Ockler for sure! Morgan Matson is one of my favorite authors…ever. She’s brilliant. I’ve met all three of these authors and they’re just super wonderful people and amazing authors. I am so glad they are on your list

I agree with you about Trish Doller and Catherine McKenzie. More people should read their books! I’ve read both Something Like Normal & Arranged and they’re SO enjoyable 😀

I have read none of them! Sorry. I’m going to rectify my lack of Jessica Kirby knowledge once I see Golden in a bookstore, because I’ve heard so many positive reviews about it. Other than that, maybe I will look at the other titles.

I just finished In Honor last night! It was sooo good. I’m going to try to get a hold of Golden too. And I agree so much with Morgan Matson!! One of my favorite road trip books!

I love your list & completely agree with most of them (the ones I’ve read anyway). It’s true about Kirby, Matson, & Doller — they are popular in the book blogging world, but I feel like they deserve so much more recognition to the average reader.

I have been dying to read Trish Doller’s Something Like Normal, but I can’t seem to get my hands on it. I may have to break down and buy it. That rap battle she had with Real Men Read YA was epic.

Hahaha I LOVE your Robin Benway shelf. Seriously, Audrey, Wait! deserves to be a million times more popular. Jillian Larkin’s Vixen is great and Ingenue is sitting in my TBR pile; for some reason it always appealed to me more than BYT.

I haven’t read ANY of the authors on your list! I take this to mean that they’re mostly contemporary YA writers… (at least, I hope! it’s the one genre I don’t do much reading in). Thanks for sharing why they’re awesome!

Great list! While I’ve heard of most of these authors, I’ve only read TWENTY BOY SUMMER and SHADE. *hangs head in shame* However, I do have GOLDEN, the rest of the Shade trilogy, and both of Matson’s books, and I hope to read them soon. Oh, and Jillian Larkin! I own her Flappers trilogy–love!–but I still have to read the last book!

I must admit, I don’t even recognize most of these ^^; so little known – you got that right! I am planning on reading Robin Benway and Morgan Matson at some point though 🙂 I’ll keep the others in mind as well! Nice list!
