This week’s topic: Top Ten New-To-Me Favorite I Read in 2014
Sarah J. Maas: All hail queen Sarah! No seriously. 2014 has been the year of Sarah J. Maas. I don’t care that I came in late I’m just glad I’m here. I read Throne of Glass over Memorial Day weekend and then after BEA I binge read Crown of Midnight and Heir of Fire one after the other and I HAVE NEVER BEEN THE SAME SINCE. I will read ANYTHING she writes.
Marie Rutkoski: Oh man, you guys. I read The Winner’s Curse at the start of 2014 and read Winner’s Crime this Fall and Marie’s writing just…AHHH. Gotta get my hands on her previous books while I wait for book 3 in this AMAZING TRILOGY.
Corey Ann Haydu: COREEEEEEY. So I’ve only read Life by Committee which was AWESOME but I plan to read OCD Love Story and ANYTHING else she puts out. ANYTHING ya hear? And also, besides her writing skills, I have LOVED getting to know her and chatting on Twitter. I’m so happy I decided to pick up Life by Committee!!
Emery Lord: One of the most amazing debuts I’ve read this year, hands down, came from Emery. I LOVED Open Road Summer and I’ve started reading her upcoming book and it is fantastic. Emery is one to watch and is on auto-buy FO SHO.
Katja Millay: The Sea of Tranquility affected me so much. SO MUCH. I will DEVOUR whatever else Katja writes. I just feel so consumed with FEELINGS when I think about this book.
Emily St. John Mandel: I haven’t been reading as much adult fiction as I used to so I’m so excited when I find an author that I’m like OMG I MUST READ ALL YOUR BOOKS. I know Station Eleven got a lot of praise (SO WORTHY OF IT) but I’ve also heard excellent things about her previous work and I cannot wait to dive in!
Taylor Jenkins Reid: OMG AFTER I DO. One of the best books I’ve read this year and I have her debut on my list of books to get at the library at some point. It was one of those books that made me think SOOOO MUCH.
Heather Demetrios: Interestingly enough the Heather Demetrios book I started with is her 2015 release! I’ll Meet You There is AMAZING and, if I already didn’t own Something Real and Exquisite Captive, I WOULD BE GOING OUT TO GET THEM. Heather Demetrios is a force to be reckoned with!
Joy N. Hensley: I knew I was probably going to like Rites of Passage but I CANNOT EVEN TELL YOU HOW MUCH IT BLEW ME AWAY. I love when a book can seriously make me shout and scream and affect me so much that it just comes out in many physical forms (which all annoy my husband).
Amy Zhang: Listen, by the time I graduated high school I’d say my most impressive achievement of my life was winning the Little Miss Princess of Athens title when I was like 4 in my former small, podunk town because I was THAT CUTE. Amy Zhang? Oh she’s just published an AMAZING book (Falling Into Place) with a huge publisher. NO BIGS. Seriously, her words are like poetry and this book had me sobbing. I am forever impressed and Amy has a fan out of me.
So tell me…what authors have you discovered in 2014 that are favorites of the year?

Oh man, I *almost* put Heather Demetrios on my list! It’s funny, though, that I started out with I’ll Meet You There like you did. Lol. I’m so glad I have her other two books on hand, because I loved that one so much and I can’t wait to read her other ones. 🙂 And so many of these authors I still have yet to read! Sarah J. Maas, Marie Rutkoski, Katja Millay, Emery Lord.. Gah, so many books, so little time!

Emery Lord and Joy Hensley are on my list, too. I still need to read Heather Demetrios’ book. And Emily St. John Mandel’s book is *almost* next on my list. I have to finish PRINCESS OF THORNS, then read STITCHING SNOW, and then…IT IS TIME!!! I’ve been waiting for a couple of months now to get to it!!! So glad you discovered Sarah J. maas and Marie Rutkoski this year. They’re so good!! Have you read THE KISS OF DECEPTION yet?

Wow, I didn’t know that about Amy Zhang, I think I have her book on my want-to-read list. And I am determined to get my hands on Station Eleven at some point…soon xD Great list!

I am recently reading Crown of Midnight. I’m really enjoying it! I’m very late to the party, I know, but I’m glad I’m discovering Sarah J Maas. I also really enjoyed Emery Lord’s writing too. I need to catch up with Heather Demetrios other books as I devoured Something Real! Great list!

Yes yes YESS to Sarah J. Maas. I didn’t read the Throne of Glass series until this year either and I’m so glad I took the chance to read, especially since I hadn’t read much fantasy in a while. Chaol and Rowan for LIFE. Also I will do anything to get my hands on ACOTAR and the next ToG book asapp!!! Emery Lord was such a sweet and fluffy debut in contemporary for me and Katja Millay had me hooked also. I’ll have to check out these other authors though!

How have I not read a book by a single one of these authors? The worst part is I own a copy of The Sea of Tranquility, but haven’t read it yet! It’s been sitting on my shelf for months!

Oooh this is such a good tag. I don’t think I’ve read anything by any of the authors you listed – though I do have Throne of Glass on my shelf waiting to be read.
My favourite new-to-me authors this year were Stephanie Perkins, Rainbow Rowell, Richelle Mead and E. Lockhart.

You don’t even understand the stupid grin that comes over my face whenever Sarah Maas’s name shows up on someone’s list. It makes me giddy. I fangirl so hard over her books. I cannot wait to get my hands on ACOTAR!! Marie Rutkoski made my list as well! I LOVED The Winner’s Curse and am dying to get my hands on The Winner’s Crime, especially since the blogosphere has been blowing up about it lately. Great list!

Station Eleven great! I read it couple days ago and was blown away. Can’t wait to read her other books. You have also other awesome sounding authors that I haven’t yet read but I really want to read books from them. 🙂

I love seeing Taylor Jenkins Reid on people’s lists… After I Do was great! And I’ve heard so much about Sarah Maas… I bought the audio of Throne of Glass when it was on sale for Cyber Monday. I’m looking forward to starting it as everyone raves about this series!

Emery Lord! Amy Zhang! Heather Demetrios! So many great picks, Jamie. I loved OPEN ROAD SUMMER and THE START OF ME & YOU (they are both on my list today!), FALLING INTO PLACE still stuns me writing-wise, and Heather’s SOMETHING REAL still makes me laugh (her fantasy and IMYT are both on my list). 🙂

I’m embarrassed to say that it took me until this year to read Rainbow Rowell! Seriously, I don’t know where I’ve been…..lol. I just never got around to reading anything by her, but I’m never going to stop now!

If this was a list of top ten NEW authors (instead of new-to-ME), Amy Zhang would take up all ten spots. I loved Falling Into Place and I can’t believe she’s so young! I am humbled by her talent and thankful that she’s able to share it with the rest of the world. Here’s my list

I read more than 40 new authors this year, but I struggled with calling many favorites. Last year I had discovered some authors with series and I binge read everything they had written, so I just didn’t have that same experience this year. But Amy Zhang and Marie Rutkoski would definitely be on my list. Sarah J Maas was my queen of last year! Looooovve them all. *Fangirl dance*

Let’s read OCD Love Story together in 2015! I loved Life by Committee so much and I really wanna read it.
I’ve read Emily Mandel’s Last Night in Montreal and The Singer’s Gun and both were great–less focused than Station Eleven but similarly beautiful writing.

It has definitely been the year of Sarah J Maas for me. Heck, that’s all happened within the last 3 months. And though I am late to the game, just as you said you are, I am pretty happy to have still gotten in on all of this (though I wonder if I should have waited a few more years just so I could have all the books at once. I kind of feel the wait is killing me). A few of the other authors I have on my to-read list. Ok, maybe more like DYING to read. I really want to read The Sea of Tranquility, Station Eleven, and The Winners Curse. With Christmas just around the corner I figure I better wait, just in the off chance that my family buys me books (though they keep saying they refuse to feed “my addiction.” So nice right?). A few other authors I’ve discovered are Kiera Cass (The Selection series. Kind of cheesy, yet super addicting), Maria Snyder (I’ve been waiting so long to read Poison Study, and this year I finally did!), and Alan Bradley (The Flavia de Luce series. I only read the first one, but I LOVED it. Super fun).

After I Do is one of my favorite reads of the year, too! She’s now on my auto-read list, just because of that book. So good. Did you hear they’re adapting her other book (Forever, Interrupted) to film?

Before today I kind of knew I wanted to read Marie Rutkowsky but now I’m dying too! Sarah J. Maas is on my list as well. So many great authors here and I haven’t read any! I think I’m giving up sleep in favor of reading next year.

So, I’m pleased that I’ve read 9 of the authors on your list! The only one I have yet to experience for myself is Emily St. John Mandel, and she’s definitely a writer I’m curious about. Her book sounds interesting, and it makes me glad that you’ve enjoyed it so much!

YES Katjia Millay! I LOVED Sea of Tranquility so much. One of my favorite books this year. I wanted to reread it as soon as I read the last page!!
