The 2021 List Is Here!
Get update information on all the book to movie adaptations coming out in 2021!
I had a lot of fun putting together last year’s Book To Movie Adaptions and I couldn’t wait to put together this list of book to movie adaptations for 2018! I am SO excited about many of the books being made into movies that I’ve already read and I found so many new books to read before they come out as movies/tv shows!
Let me know in the comments which upcoming books being made into movies in 2018 you are excited about!
I love David Levithan’s books and boy did I love this one!! SO excited for this book to movie adaptation for 2018. Every Day will be in theaters February 23.
Every day A wakes up up in another body and experiences another life for twenty four hours. A has no control over it and never knows what body will be next nor the rhyme or reason to it. All A knows is that the best way to get through the day is to just go through the motions of the characters life and try not to do anything out of character or that would really interfere with their life. A has successfully been able to do that until Justin’s body where A meets Rhiannon — Justin’s girlfriend — and makes a very real connection with her.
Simon Vs The Homosapiens Agenda
Out In Theaters (as Love, Simon) March 16
If you made me pick the one I’m MOST excited about it’s this movies based on a book — a most delightful book at that. This is one of my all time favorite YA books (you can read my review here) and it’s so delightful and I will be there opening night for this one! READ THIS ONE!
So many people I know rave about Walter Dean Myers books and I am going to start with this one so I can see the movie!! Monster will be premiering at Sundance Film Festival in January 2018.
“A teenager finds himself incarcerated at a New York juvenile detention center and charged with robbery and felony murder. Presented as a screenplay of Steve’s own imagination, and peppered with journal entries, the book shows how one single decision can change our whole lives.”
Forever My Girl
Out In Theaters January 19
Romance lovers…check out this book becoming a movie in 2018.
“After being gone for a decade a country star returns home to the love he left behind”
Coming To TNT on January 22
Okay so I have the most random story about how I was recommended this book: I was at a used book sale like 8 years ago maybe and some lady who ended up always being near me was super friendly and would ask me if I’ve read this or that and point out books she loved. She found this one in the stacks and was like I WILL PAY FOR THIS YOU HAVE TO READ IT. I had to buy it after that!!
“Crime reporter, John Moore, meets with psychologist, Dr. Laszlo Kreizler, to investigate a serial killer in New York during the late 19th century.”
The Miseducation of Cameron Post
Premiering at Sundance January 2018
I have had this book on my shelf since it came out and it’s really embarrassing that I haven’t read it yet!! I always do that. DEFINITELY going to get to it soon!
“When Cameron Post’s parents die suddenly in a car crash, her shocking first thought is relief. Relief they’ll never know that, hours earlier, she had been kissing a girl. But that relief doesn’t last, and Cam is soon forced to move in with her conservative aunt Ruth and her well-intentioned but hopelessly old-fashioned grandmother. She knows that from this point on, her life will forever be different. Survival in Miles City, Montana, means blending in and leaving well enough alone (as her grandmother might say), and Cam becomes an expert at both. Then Coley Taylor moves to town. Beautiful, pickup-driving Coley is a perfect cowgirl with the perfect boyfriend to match. She and Cam forge an unexpected and intense friendship — one that seems to leave room for something more to emerge. But just as that starts to seem like a real possibility, ultrareligious Aunt Ruth takes drastic action to ‘fix’ her niece, bringing Cam face-to-face with the cost of denying her true self — even if she’s not exactly sure who that is.”
The Death Cure (book 3 of The Maze Runner series)

Before long, his secret is out: Nick is from a family that is impossibly wealthy, he’s perhaps the most eligible bachelor in Asia, and every single woman in his ultra-rarefied social class is incredibly jealous of Rachel and wants to bring her down”

I had never heard of this book but it sounds interesting…also found out that it was already a movie so this is a remake! I do love me a good crime/suspense novel. I also am delighted that Dean Morris is in it (RIP, Hank, RIP).
“A mild-mannered father is transformed into a killing machine after his family is torn apart by a violent act.”

I am so mad that when we moved as kids that SOMEHOW my beautiful boxed set of Beatrix Potter books vanished. (I’m betting my mom trashed it). I loved all things Beatrix Potter as a kid and I wish Riley was going to be old enough to take to the theater to see it! GUESS I WILL TAKE MY NIECES BECAUSE IT LOOKS SOOOO ADORABLE.
“Feature adaptation of Beatrix Potter’s classic tale of a rebellious rabbit trying to sneak into a farmer’s vegetable garden”

I love a good crime novel and I’ve heard great things about this Swedish crime series! I’ve even heard people say they liked it better than The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo!
“An ex-convict working undercover intentionally gets himself incarcerated again in order to infiltrate the mob at a maximum security prison.”
Out in Theaters August 10
Oh man…I get so freaked out about THINGS LURKING IN THE OCEAN.
“On a top-secret dive into the Pacific Ocean’s deepest canyon, Jonas Taylor found himself face-to-face with the largest and most ferocious predator in the history of the animal kingdom. The sole survivor of the mission, Taylor is haunted by what he’s sure he saw but still can’t prove exists–Carcharodon megalodon, the massive mother of the great white shark. The average prehistoric Meg weighs in at twenty tons and could tear apart a Tyrannosaurus rex in seconds. Written off as a crackpot suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, Taylor refuses to forget the depths that nearly cost him his life. With a Ph.D. in paleontology under his belt, Taylor spends years theorizing, lecturing, and writing about the possibility that Meg still feeds at the deepest levels of the sea. But it takes an old friend in need to get him to return to the water, and a hotshot female submarine pilot to dare him back into a high-tech miniature sub. Diving deeper than he ever has before, Taylor will face terror like he’s never imagined, and what he finds could turn the tides bloody red until the end of time.“
The Girl In the Spider’s Web

I have only read book 1 in this series and I really need to catch up! Still haven’t watched the movie though.
“Young computer hacker Lisbeth Salander and journalist Mikael Blomkvist find themselves caught in a web of spies, cybercriminals and corrupt government officials.”
TV Series Out On Netflix February 2
“It’s the twenty-fifth century, and advances in technology have redefined life itself. A person’s consciousness can now be stored in the brain and downloaded into a new body (or “sleeve”), making death nothing more than a minor blip on a screen. Onetime U.N. Envoy Takeshi Kovacs has been killed before, but his last death was particularly painful. Resleeved into a body in Bay City (formerly San Francisco), Kovacs is thrown into the dark heart of a shady, far-reaching conspiracy that is vicious even by the standards of a society that treats existence as something that can be bought and sold. For Kovacs, the shell that blew a hole in his chest was only the beginning.“
Horse Soldiers by Doug Stanton

This sounds GREAT!!
“THE LITTLE STRANGER tells the story of Dr Faraday, the son of a housemaid, who has built a life of quiet respectability as a country doctor. During the long hot summer of 1947, he is called to a patient at Hundreds Hall, where his mother once worked. The Hall has been home to the Ayres family for more than two centuries. But it is now in decline and its inhabitants – mother, son and daughter – are haunted by something more ominous than a dying way of life. When he takes on his new patient, Faraday has no idea how closely, and how terrifyingly, the family’s story is about to become entwined with his own.”

I’m always looking for interesting memoirs and this one sounds really good!

Coming To Starz in 2018
I’m excited for this show! Though I don’t currently have Starz…WAH. I had been interested in this book and then I saw it get not-so-stellar reviews but then a couple friends of mine really liked it and explained it in a way I think I’d like?? So we shall see.
“A lush, raw, thrilling novel of the senses about a year in the life of a uniquely beguiling young woman, set in the wild, alluring world of a famous downtown New York restaurant.”
Coming to Lifetime as a TV series in 2018
STOKED FOR THIS!! This is going to be gooooood as a tv series. Totally think Penn Badgley is going to nail that role!
“When a beautiful, aspiring writer strides into the East Village bookstore where Joe Goldberg works, he does what anyone would do: he Googles the name on her credit card.
There is only one Guinevere Beck in New York City. She has a public Facebook account and Tweets incessantly, telling Joe everything he needs to know: she is simply Beck to her friends, she went to Brown University, she lives on Bank Street, and she’ll be at a bar in Brooklyn tonight—the perfect place for a “chance” meeting.
As Joe invisibly and obsessively takes control of Beck’s life, he orchestrates a series of events to ensure Beck finds herself in his waiting arms. Moving from stalker to boyfriend, Joe transforms himself into Beck’s perfect man, all while quietly removing the obstacles that stand in their way—even if it means murder.”

I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH. If you love YA you should be reading Julie Murphy’s books! This is going to be an awesome movie!! No release date yet but it’s in post-production and I am pretty sure filming wrapped up in October!

There she meets Private School Bo, a hot former jock. Will isn’t surprised to find herself attracted to Bo. But she is surprised when he seems to like her back. Instead of finding new heights of self-assurance in her relationship with Bo, Will starts to doubt herself. So she sets out to take back her confidence by doing the most horrifying thing she can imagine: entering the Miss Clover City beauty pageant—along with several other unlikely candidates—to show the world that she deserves to be up there as much as any twiggy girl does. Along the way, she’ll shock the hell out of Clover City—and maybe herself most of all.”

“Set in postwar Germany in 1946, Rachael Morgan arrives in the ruins of Hamburg in the bitter winter to be reunited with her husband Lewis, a British colonel charged with rebuilding the shattered city. But as they set off for their new home, Rachael is stunned to discover that Lewis has made an extraordinary decision: They will be sharing the grand house with its previous owners, a German widower and his troubled daughter. In this charged atmosphere, enmity and grief give way to passion and betrayal.”
This is one of my favorite books by one of my favorite historical fiction authors!! I’m NOT prepared to see this on the big screen but I can only hope it will get more people reading this woman’s incredible books! They are changing the name to Ashes in the Snow for the movie (I’m assuming because of the FSoG franchise…might be confusing) and I see it’s in post-production and says 2018 release??
