The Ultimate Harry Potter Gift Guide For 2020

July 20, 2020 - Updated August 11, 2020 // 10 Comments

Hellllooo back this week with another gift guide (check out last week’s gift guide if you happened to miss it — chock full of gifts for  book lovers in your life/yourself let’s be real). This gift guide is all about the best gifts for Harry Potter fans (add yourself to your To Buy For List…you deserve it this year!).

As you know, I read Harry Potter for the first time at 30 and while I was the Harry Potter festival near my house this year I was thinking how sad it was that I have ZERO Harry Potter merch. NOTHING. All my friends have been accumulating their Harry Potter merchandise FOR YEARS and I’m starting now and have a long way to go. This Hufflepuff needs to GET ON IT. Although what to get first??

Anyways, it might feel like the Harry Potter fanatic on your list has EVERY HARRY POTTER THING IN EXISTENCE…but I’m hoping this list of Harry Potter gift ideas will at least find you something to gift them that they don’t actually have yet!!

I would love love love for you to let me know in the comments some of YOUR best Harry Potter gift ideas…for gift guide purposes….totally not for myself. NOPE. Noooooope.

Please see my disclosure policy for more info. I’m not personally affiliated with/sponsored by any of the companies in this gift guide just genuinely think they are great!

Best Gifts For Harry Potter Fans

Just as a note: mostly everything in this Harry Potter gift guide that is Hogwarts house related had other House options..I just chose them randomly so check and they probably have your house!

Harry Potter Clothing

OH MY GOD I added so many of these to my wishlist and cart. THIS IS A PROBLEM. Can my whole wardrobe just be made up of Harry Potter clothing? I THINK SO.

Tell me about all the Harry Potter clothing you own!!  I have gifted many a Harry Potter tee and think Harry Potter inspired clothing makes for the perfect gift for Harry Potter fans. I love walking around proudly declaring my nerdery.

Hogwarts House t-shirts

What a perfect way to show your love for a Harry Potter fan than getting them a t-shirt that represents their Hogwarts House — because YOU KNOW what their Hogwarts House is right?? A great gift for Harry Potter lovers….so long as you don’t mess up what House they are in. VERY SERIOUS BUSINESS WHAT HOUSE WE ARE IN.

Yellow t-shirt that says Hufflepuff on it with illustrations around it

Perfect gift idea for the Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Slytherin or Gryffindor in your life!

(Ravenclaw option,  Slytherin option, Gryffindor option)

I also love a lot of the Bioworld Harry Potter tees!

General Harry Potter tees

Nothing makes me feel more connected to someone than seeing a great Harry Potter t-shirt — it feels like in instant inside joke to see lines or jokes from the books like LeviOsa vs LeviosA or “I Solemnly Swear”. There are so many clever Harry Potter tees out there that it is REALLY hard to narrow them down!!

Deathly Hallows Tee

I really love this one as you can customize the colors according to the Hogwarts house colors!

Harry Potter ACCESSORIES

I think accessories are really fun gifts to give Harry Potter lovers and they totally make great stocking stuffer gifts for Harry Potter fans! Like I will NEVER not be happy about fun socks or a tasteful piece of jewelry — let alone Harry Potter themed as a gift!

Harry Potter Jewelry

I almost blew a whole lot of money perusing Harry Potter inspired jewelry for this. There’s so many creative ways to represent your Harry Potter love when it comes to jewelry. I like more of the subtle pieces personally (hint! hint! any family reading this) but I love how unique so many of the pieces are.

Alex and Ani Harry Potter Collection

I’ve got to say I’m pretty much I’m obsessed with all of the Alex and Ani Harry Potter jewelry and have a few pieces myself and think they are quality pieces to gift if you don’t want too expensive but you don’t want too cheap. My mother-in-law got me one of the Potter glasses wraparound rings for  Christmas so I can say, with experience, that Harry Potter jewelry is one of the best gift ideas for a Harry Potter fan (if they wear jewelry). I was DELIGHTED.

It’s kind of a problem now that I can one click Alex and Ani stuff on Amazon now…..at least if I wanted to order off the website I had to get my credit card out haha.

Here are my favorite pieces that make great presents (for someone else…..for you)

Harry Potter inspired quote charm braceletLove this “Hogwarts is my Home” bracelet!

Harry Potter Jewelry On Etsy

Golden Snitch inspired necklace: This is a bit of a pricey gift but if you are looking for that WOW gift that is a little step above most Harry Potter inspired jewelry and is well crafted! The shop has SO many variations of it with different stones in it.

Personalized Harry Potter Jewelry

I love finding personalized Harry Potter gifts for people as a truly special present for a Harry Potter lover! There’s so many options out there but here are a few of my favorites for all budgets.

Personalized Harry Potter gift necklaceI love this cute personalized Harry Potter gift necklace.

Other options:

I gotta say I just LOVE the personalized spell one. Like what a unique gift for a Harry Potter lover outside of just going with your House or your name or something. Which spell would you all want??

Harry Potter Jewelry On Amazon

There’s a decent amount of stuff on Amazon if you are in need of a quick gift!

Harry Potter Scarves

I used to not be a scarf gal (unless winter scarf!) but I’ve found that I love a fun scarf to pep up an otherwise plain outfit. There are some really fun scarves out there for Harry Potter lovers.

Deathly Hollows scarf: Although I wish this were an infinity scarf (I’m partial to those…maybe because I’m awful at arranging scarfs around my neck in that effortless way others seem to pull off) I love the subtleness of this scarf!

Harry Potter Tote Bags

White Harry Potter inspired tote bag that says LOVE using Harry Potter related symbols

I am obsessed with this Harry Potter tote bag that is PERFECT for carrying my library books to and fro!

Other great options:

I have to say I’m pretty impressed with the selection that Amazon has of cute Harry Potter totes!

Other Harry Potter Bags

Black gold deathly hallows symbol makeup bag with faux leather bottom

This is the cutest Harry Potter inspired makeup bag ever!! I have been in need of a new makeup bag because mine is pretty gross but it’s something I just never remember so added this one to my wishlist!

Harry Potter Socks & Slippers

These socks come in all the Hogwarts Houses on this shop but obviously my Hufflepuff self chose these — I mean also my favorite color is yellow sooo.

Other Options:

I have to say Amazon is killing the game with Potter themed socks!

Harry Potter Kitchenwares

I am really into a lot of these as an avid drinker of tea, coffee and wine! I will take one of each thank you very much!

Harry Potter Tumblers & Travel Mugs

Harry Potter Hogwarts Tea Tumbler

Harry Potter Tea Tumbler: I love the elegant nature of this one! Perfect for a tea loving Potterhead!

Other options:

Harry Potter Wine Tumblers

 Harry Potter Mugs

Nothing cozier than rereading the HP series (or any other book) with a big cuppa something good. Potter inspired mugs are always a good call!

"Always" Harry Potter Coffee Mug with deer and deathly hallows sign

I LOVE this set of 2 mugs — the gold and the black is a stunning combo on it with the beloved ‘Always’ on it.

Other options:

Other Fun Kitchenware Items

As a tea lover myself I’m rather partial to this Maruader’s Map themed teapot! Trying to decide if I need to upgrade my current teapot. It would pair well as a gift with this Harry Potter tea infuser!

FOR THE HOME

How much will my (non-Harry Potter loving) husband want to divorce me if I fill my home to the brim with Harry Potter stuff?? Seriously even though I’m in my 30’s I find myself much rather adding touches of decor related to things I love vs being ~FANCY~.  Plus I have a 2 year old so being fancy isn’t in the cards right now.

There are SO SO MANY amazing Harry Potter wall art for your home and I refuse to pick a few so definitely peruse these.

Have you noticed how little Hufflepuff merch there is? As a fellow Hufflepuffer (lolol I just made that term up) I get annoyed at all the Gryffindor and Slytherin only stuff (I was originally a Gryffindor for YEARS, might I add, but Pottermore changed it -.- rude). Most of my HP clothes are from Hot Topic and/or Primark. I also have a cushion that says “I solemnly swear I am up to no good” from Society6. I got a few things in the GeekGear Wizardry box in August 2017 and that had posters and a tiny Helga cup. It’s so CUTE! it’s funny how much merch is out now compared to when the films/books were being released. OH and I have most of the Funko Pops for HP! From the things you listed above, I love the books that turn out to be tiny drawers. aww

I have noticed that!! RUDE. Hufflepuffs are awesome. The first time I took a quiz it told me I was evenly a Gryffindor or Hufflepuff and for a while I thought of myself as a Gryffinpuff but then I decided to just choose (and took the Pottermore quiz on the site) Hufflepuff bc I think it’s totally me and the quiz agreed this time.

Isn’t that adorable?? So creative! Esp for the Potter fan who has everything!!

So many good things. I’m glad Primark these days has a lot of HP stuff so I can get some cute t-shirts. I love my marauder map sweat shirt. And I am currently sitting under my hp blanket. 😀 And I just got a hp bag. Christmas came early. 😉

I own quite a lot of Harry Potter merch but there’s so much I still don’t have and want on this list! Harry Potter clothing is my favourite type of merch – it’s practical and fun to wear! My favourites that I own are my Hufflepuff jumper, Ron’s Christmas jumper, my Hufflepuff scarf and these Marauders’ Map pyjama pants that are SUPER COMFY. They’re so soft omg.
That said, I love all other types of merch too of course haha. Hope you’ll get a lot of great stuff for Christmas!

I can’t express how much I cared for and was pulled into the lives of these women living in a boardinghouse in DC during the McCarthy era just as much as I was racing to find out what happened in this house. Book shopping is great but I can’t express how incredible building community is and indie bookshops do just that. I always wanted my own version of Cheers and, while not a bar where everybody knows my name, CBW was that place for me for almost a decade when I built community by going to YA book events there and moderating events. And while I am not able to get there as often as I was before I became a mom and we moved further away, It’s been so special to be able to share this beloved space with Riley.

These indie bookshops are so vital to our communities and I know everyone’s situation is different so this isn’t to shame but That Website can’t replace what can be created in these book spaces. Shop local when you are able! #indiebookshop #bookshop #bookshopping #independentbookstore
Ok technically I’m lying. My last read was technic Ok technically I’m lying. My last read was technically ATMOSPHERE but I feel like between my stories and my dedicated post to it, I’d rather talk about the book I read before it but didn’t update y’all on.

The Trouble With Anna — I enjoyed this delightful little historical romance about a heroine who is carving out her independence only to find out, when her grandfather dies, that he tied her inheritance/future to marrying her best friend’s brother — a not-so-happy surprise for both of them. I could understand why they both had some guardness/walls up and I enjoyed watching them slowly start to lower them.

Mayhem and the Mortal - I’m not too far into this romantic fantasy but it is one of my most anticipated that came out last month and I’m excited to dig in more.

Hamnet — I know, I know. For April I decided not to make a traditional TBR list of books I wanted to read but instead give myself some prompts to guide my reading (bc I’m overwhelmed with all my choices at hand) without feeling rigid. One of the prompts was to read a book I HAD TO BUY but is still unread. So going to finally get to it. Have you read this one or watched the movie?

What are you currently reading?
I had been waiting for the perfect time to read th I had been waiting for the perfect time to read this one after Random House sent me a finished copy as TJR is a longtime auto-buy author. I found myself caught up in all the space joy and wonder and feeling quite parasocial about the Artemis crew...I decided now was the time.

I had no idea what I was getting into.

I hadn’t really known what it was about but I didn’t really need to given its TJR & the fact it was 1980s NASA & astronauts.

But this book was about love to me - romantic love, platonic love, familial love, love for something bigger than yourself, love for the person you are & are becoming, love in the face of obstacles, love for what lights you up.

Having been invested in real life astronauts & their journey lately really made this book even more vivid to me — seeing the bonds of the crew so deeply, feeling the fragility that exists while they are doing this wondrous & crazy thing that often still boggles my mind that we can do.

And, hardest to put into words, that feeling of awe in the expansive nature & capabilities of love & the universe that I felt when a husband named a crater after his late wife which doubly helped me understand how Joan & Vanessa felt looking back at earth.

It made me sob & feel everything about being a human so deeply basically from that Frances/Joan phone call at 86% of the way through until the final words. Like could not breathe.

*might be a tiny bit spoilery so beware:

I think the way she wrote this was so impactful bc we start out knowing something bad happens &it’s not even that far when we know that some of them def won’t make it back & some are alive in peril.

I was like “oof” when *it* happens early on. But each and every chapter where we learn more about these ppl & their relationships felt agonizing & I was retroactively grieving for them more deeply every turn of the page.

The hurt and grief just compounds from a moment that was sad from the jump to something that had dug in deep to me.

To know what happens right before this mission makes the mission control bits even more excruciating. Makes the peril a character is in hit even harder than just “oh that must be scary!”.

I loved it. I needed it bad.
The theme of Q1 was “just go with it” — it being m The theme of Q1 was “just go with it” — it being my reading whims, quirks and troubles.

Interesting things:

1. January started out rough. I only read 1 physical book and leaned very heavy into audiobooks only. At first it was distressing that my brain -thanks to current events and their effect on my mind - couldn’t work out how to sit down and read with my eyeballs but I was like…let’s just roll with it and wait for it to pass. So I waited and enjoyed a ton of audiobooks.

2. I don’t think I’ve ever read so many thrillers and mysteries in a quarter. It’s a genre I love but I’m normally quite more balanced. However, it’s what I was craving and what my brain was tolerating so…I just went with it.

3. I have always been a reader led by my moods (both how I feel reading wise and personally). This quarter was FERAL. Like the most feral mood reading ever. I couldn’t even categorize it. I’d decide on one book enthusiastically and suddenly I was like…absolutely not that.

4. I read way less fantasy than normal which was WEIRD but I felt like I also wasn’t surprised given my brain space.

5. I really started to resent people even more who said “it’s a book account stop talking about politics etc”. Babe, I’m a human who gives a shit but ALSO this has and always been an account of MY reading life. And my reading life was profoundly affected by the things that were going on in this country. Like they have been before - whether it’s been current events or things like having a kid, being depressed, slumps, etc.

6. I return to the fact that, for me, I am happiest when I pay attention to my reading whims. The end of the month I had a very specific reading mood (wanted time travel element but not a heavy time travel book) and I decided to pick up A Rip Through Time at the end of the month and I’m now halfway through book 4. Having the best time ever!!!

Anyways, tell me how your reading life was in Q1! Fave books? Biggest surprises??

Being someone who reads based on their ever shifti Being someone who reads based on their ever shifting reading moods (sometimes very feral) makes library holds and tbrs very hard. It’s the worst when 5 weeks ago I would have gobbled the library hold up but now when the hold comes in I’m like…I think not. #readersofinstagram #readerproblems #librarylife #librarybooks #moodreader
I love when I just absolutely nail it on the first I love when I just absolutely nail it on the first try when trying to satisfy a super specific reading mood - Kelley Armstrong’s A Rip Through Time definitely nailed what I wanted. Time travel but didn’t really want too time travely…just more of a vibe or catalyst for some fun. If you love a good mystery, some time travel shenanigans and a great cast of characters, I highly recommend this book. #bookrec #bookrecommendation #bookreview #mysterybooks #historicalmystery #kelleyarmstrong
🌸 Some romances on my personal radar for April. 🌸 🌸 Some romances on my personal radar for April. 🌸

Beyond excited for a new Kate Clayborn, Kasie west, rainbow Rowell, Jenn Bennett and Beth O’Leary - I’ve enjoyed these authors in the past.

My historical loving heart is most excited for The Duke and How To Fake It In Society.

I love an emotional romance so The Art of Loving You is high on my list plus I’ve heard great things about this author.

I’m intrigued by Fast Lane especially since it’s being adapted for a tv series. I’m seeing comparisons to Elle Kennedy’s Off Campus series which I did love!

Having the best time ever!!!

Being someone who reads based on their ever shifti Being someone who reads based on their ever shifting reading moods (sometimes very feral) makes library holds and tbrs very hard.
