I already shared my 11 Top Books of 2020 post but I ALWAYS look forward, since 2010, to fill out this survey I created (you can check out the post with the questions here) because it honestly gives such a more interesting view of my reading year and lets me talk about books that might not make my TOP reads list but still are worth talking about.
This year I skipped doing the blogging section and the “looking forward” section because I just wasn’t feeling it so I’m just focusing on 2020 reading.
**2020 READING STATS**
Number Of Books You Read: 68 (it was feast or famine over here this year reading-wise)
Number of Re-Reads: 0 (yikes..lots of show rewatches though haha!)
Genre You Read The Most From: Contemporary! Lots of romances. Next highest was thriller/mystery because I NEEDED something to click quickly.
1. Best Book You Read In 2020?
YA — Clap When You Land
Adult — The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue (I felt that book in my heart and soul as an Enneagram 4) but also The Vanishing Half
2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t?
I do NOT get the hype for this one at all.
3. Most surprising (in a good way or bad way) book you read?
Long Bright River — in a good way! I picked it up on a whim from Book Expo the year prior and thought it was going to be your typical police procedural but I was so surprised at what this book actually was!
4. Book You “Pushed” The Most People To Read (And They Did)?
I loved this book so much! Def in my top 3 (along with Addie and The Vanishing Half) and I made so many people read it which delighted me. The book we all needed in 2020!
5. Best series you started in 2020? Best Sequel? Best Series Ender of 2020?
WOW! Was kinda shocked that I barely read any series this year. One or two but I wouldn’t count them as “best” at all. Didn’t make any progress on series.
6. Favorite new author you discovered in 2020?
Ashley Woodfolk — I read both of her books she has out this year and they are some exceptional contemporary YA.
7. Best book from a genre you don’t typically read/was out of your comfort zone?
It’s always hard to answer this question because I read pretty widely. But I don’t always LOVE novels in verse (the only ones I loved was Ellen Hopkin’s Crank) but this one.…incredible. The best I’ve ever read and glad I didn’t let it being a novel in verse dissuade me.
8. Most action-packed/thrilling/unputdownable book of the year?
INHALED The Sun Down Motel! Such a great page-turning read for Fall!
9. Book You Read In 2020 That You Would Be MOST Likely To Re-Read Next Year?
If I’m being super honest, lol. This one and Digital Minimalism because I need it drilled in my brain.

11. Most memorable character of 2020?
Definitely Addie from The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue.
12. Most beautifully written book read in 2020?
Listen I was trying not to repeat books a ton but this one for sure.
13. Most Thought-Provoking/ Life-Changing Book of 2020?
I want everyone to read The Undocumented Americans!!
14. Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2020 to finally read?
A Man Called Ove is one of my fave books I read this year and I can’t believe it took me so long to read it considering I had read and loved another one of his a few years ago!
15. Favorite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2020?

17. Book That Shocked You The Most
(Because of a plot twist, character death, left you hanging with your mouth wide open, etc.)
I was surprised by how this book made me gasp not once but twice!

19. Favorite Non-Romantic Relationship Of The Year
I loved the grandmother/granddaughter relationship in The Switch but, like, I loved Eileen’s relationship with all Leena’s friends so much!
20. Favorite Book You Read in 2020 From An Author You’ve Read Previously
I love Tiffany’s books so much and this one was incredible!
21. Best Book You Read In 2020 That You Read Based SOLELY On A Recommendation From Somebody Else/Peer Pressure/Bookstagram, Etc.:
I’m so glad so many people were talking about this one because I might have missed it!
22. Newest fictional crush from a book you read in 2020?
Zaf from Take A Hint, Dani Brown!
23. Best 2020 debut you read?
This book was so hard to stomach but was truly an incredible book.
24. Best Worldbuilding/Most Vivid Setting You Read This Year?
Kristin Hannah’s The Great Alone definitely made me vividly feel like I was in Alaska.
25. Book That Put A Smile On Your Face/Was The Most FUN To Read?
I was grinning like a fool during this one. But also The House in the Cerulean Sea.
26. Book That Made You Cry Or Nearly Cry in 2020?
This list is long but the hardest I sobbed, for all of Instagram to see on my stories, was A Man Called Ove. That book!!
27. Hidden Gem Of The Year?
Seriously such a good book about friendship.
28. Book That Crushed Your Soul?
Either Grown or The Great Alone! OOF.
29. Most Unique Book You Read In 2020?
Hmm I can’t necessarily think of one that stands out.
30. Book That Made You The Most Mad (doesn’t necessarily mean you didn’t like it)?
THE ENDING MADE ME SO MAD (and I hated this book)

When You Were Everything was my hidden gem pick too! It was sooo good! I feel like there aren’t many books that focus that deeply on friendships, particularly friendships gone wrong.

It hit me straight in the gut! I agree..I’ve never read a book that captured a friend breakup so well.

Yes, I loved The Sun Down Motel too! I didn’t really have any expectations for it but I was hooked right off the bat!

We have a lot of faves in common (Long Bright River, Cerulean Sea, Clap When You Land, All Boys Aren’t Blue), but I think I set the bar too high going into Addie LaRue. I liked it, but I didn’t love it like so many other people did.
