This “Hello World” series is a great one for any curious babies/toddlers who love learning! I think they are super engaging and simple to teach different concepts and topics for that age. So often I struggle with the non-fiction books when it came to topics Riley and I wanted to explore because they are definitely geared a bit older.

This one is a straightforward book that teaches toddlers all about how apples grow—from seed to sapling to tree to applesauce. A good intro and I loved being able to talk about things we learned in this book when we went apple picking.

Apple Farmer Annie by Monica Wellington

Get this one if: you are looking something to talk about all things apples with toddlers that is educational but not a too technical non-fiction book. Little ones will love Farmer Annie!

I love Apple Farmer Annie — this book is a great jumping off point for so many fall/apple related discussions and related activities for toddlers! One of those books that you as a parent/teacher can really add even more too as well.

Annie is working hard in the Fall and this book takes us with her on her busy day filled with all things apples. Things like picking them, counting them, sorting them as well as seeing what she does after with them — like baking scrumptious treats and selling them at the market for others to enjoy.

Who Knew? Under the Apple Tree

Get this one if: you want one that is a general “Fall is coming” book but centered around an apple tree

I love that this book is centered around how all these animals use their five senses to know that Fall is coming by observing the apple tree and the apples in it! Each one has a different observation and I think pairing it with a trip to an apple orchard to explore with the fives senses could be fun.

As a bonus, it’s a good way to teach ordinal numbers as they give the order of which animal comes to the apple tree and makes their observation.

Applesauce Day by Lisa Amstutz

Get this one if: you want a sweet/cozy story about a family’s memory-making tradition of picking apples and making applesauce together

This book is so special and is exactly what I hope to get Riley excited about when we pick up seasonal books — the traditions and memory making of the seasons.

This one is about a little girl and her family’s yearly tradition of going to pick apples at the orchard, far away from the city, and then going to grandma’s to make applesauce together — something that is a generational tradition and is even more special because they use a special family pot to make this applesauce.

Would be a fun pairing with actually making applesauce together afterwards! Such a cozy book!

How To Grown An Apple Pie

Get this one if: you want an accessible way to teach about the whole process of getting an apple from an apple tree. (I even learned some stuff!)

This one is SO cute. Sophie has been waiting for her 6th birthday because it means that the apple trees her parents planted when she was born are finally ready to get fruit from to make apple pie.

It shows all the work that is put into caring for the apple trees before the tree is even ready to harvest the apples! I loved the thought of really breaking it down to see all that goes into the apple tree before it gets to the point that we can even go pick them.

Besides learning the process, I thought it was a nice little way to showcase how good things can sometimes take time and work before we get to see the fruit (literally) of our labor.

Perfect for preschool and early elementary.

Apple Picking Day! by Candice Ransom

Get this one if: you have a beginner reader or just love a simple & cute story about picking apples with a sibling that can be enjoyed by toddlers/preschoolers

I discovered this one through Busy Toddler’s Apple unit in her curriculum Playing Preschool and I really loved it. It works for the toddler/preschool age and then becomes a great read for an early reader!

It’s a sweet story about two siblings going to the orchard to find the best apples! Cute illustrations, rhyming and a great one if you want to get excited about going apple picking! Plus I love finding seasonal stories featuring diverse families and this one features a Black family.

Hungry Bunny by Claudia Rueda

Get this one if: you are looking for a fun & interactive book featuring apples but not necessarily about apples

So this one isn’t straight about a book about apples but it is a cute, interactive book about a hungry bunny trying SO, SO hard to gather apples for Mama’s apple pie. What an adventure this cute bunny has trying to pick these apples and get them home! Great for both toddlers and preschoolers!

Apples, Apples, Apples by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace

Get this one if: you want something informational yet still super cute for preschoolers/maybe even Kindergarten

This one features a rabbit family who heads off to pick apples, all with their own ideas of what they want the apples for, and the fun they have with the apples afterwards. It becomes informational while they are picking the apples as the Farmer teaches them all about apples!
