This week’s topic: Ten Auto-Buy Authors
Auto-buy is a big deal for me. I’m pretty particular about what I buy so an author really has to make an impression on me for me to give the auto-buy title. A lot of my book budget goes to buying books I deem as favorites and would reread (having read them as ARCs) and not really buying books at random. It’s either — I already know I loved the book and want to own a copy or already know I love the author/is a favorite which is basically my auto-buy list. (You can check out my list from 2013).
1. Jandy Nelson: I freaking loved The Sky Is Everywhere when I read it a couple years ago (like favorites) and then last year she came out with one of my all time favorite books I’ll Give You The Sun and she locked down her spot as aut0-buy author. Two of the best books I’ve ever read — especially I’ll Give You The Sun. I’m always sad that she doesn’t have more books or there is such time in between her new books but LISTEN…for the brilliance she creates…I WILL WAIT.
2. Sarah J. Maas: After the first 3 Throne of Glass books I knew that Sarah would be auto-buy and even put that into practice when A Court of Thorns & Roses came out because I NEVER READ FAERY BOOKS BUT OH SHE MADE THE FAE WORK FOR ME. Will buy anything she writes because it’s all so brilliant and feelsy and romantic and OH MY GOD HER WORLDBUILDING.
3. Susan Dennard: I really loved her first series and just her in general so I already knew I’d buy anything she wrote but after I read Truthwitch I might as well just pre-order every book she writes from here on out. Just forward paychecks to that fund.
4. Melina Marchetta: THIS WOMAN IS ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE AUTHORS EVER. From her amazing contemporary to her incredible fantasy series…literally don’t care what genre or what it’s about..I will buy it. (My thoughts on: Lumatere Chronicles, Jellicoe Road, Saving Francesca, The Piper’s Son)
5. Rainbow Rowell: Yep, anything. Anything at all. In love with her books…no question that I’ll buy whenever I hear a new Rowell is coming out. (My thoughts on: Fangirl, Landline & Eleanor and Park)
6. Sarah Dessen: I’m new to the Sarah Dessen bandwagon. I had read one or two of hers but this year I’ve binged quite a few and I’m just LOVING everything she writes in different ways. I will now be one of her loyal fans running out to buy her latest! (I haven’t reviewed a lot of hers that I’ve read but check out my thoughts on Saint Anything)
7. Emery Lord: After two books Emery has definitely earned a spot on my auto-buy list. She is writing some of the BEST new (and my most recommended) contemporary books! (My thoughts on Open Road Summer and The Start Of Me & You)
8. Corey Ann Haydu: I’ve only read 2 of Corey’s books but she is writing the kind of complex and emotional YA I love and I know I will always auto-buy her books because they are they type of books I want to reread over again because there is much to be gleaned a second time! (Check out my thoughts on Life By Committee and Making Pretty!)
9. Katie Cotugno: I super loved How To Love when it came out and then I just read her latest 99 Days this year and I’m just in love with how she writes! She is the QUEEN of writing really messy and complicated things well. I’m so eager for her to put out another book!!
10. Courtney Summers: COURTNEY SUMMERS. I don’t even know where to begin. She writes really tough stuff with such emotional depth and with so many layers. I’m in awe of her ability to explore the female experience with such intricacy and depth. Her books are thought-provoking & smart & are always so raw and unapologetic. seriously don’t get why she’s not even more popular than she is but sign me up for any and all future novels! (my thoughts on All the Rage and Some Girls Are)

Sadly for my wallet, this list could’ve been so much longer. The ten authors I chose were striking talents that I thought would appeal to a larger variety of readers. However, even now as I view my TTT List, there’s actually very little deviation among what these authors write.
You’ve got a great list here and I certainly could’ve added quite a few of yours to mine and still been good with it.

Yup, a lot of my 2013 authors still hold too. We are faithful fans! Maas, Rowell, Dessen, and Summers are faves of mine as well. And you make me really excited to read Truthwitch!

I definitely need to check out some of these writers. Katie Cotugno and Courtney Summers have been on my TBR forever. I’m currently reading and enjoying Making Pretty! Fantastic list 🙂

Oh my gosh I hope you check their books out soon! I still need to read some others of Courtney’s but after 2 books I read I was pretty confident to put her on this list! SO HAPPY you are enjoying Making Pretty!

We have a couple of common authors on our list this week but only one really stands out to me this week. Melina Marchetta. I am so happy to see her on someone elses list this week. Jellicoe is my favourite book of all time and it causes endless frustration that people just don’t seem to get it. Great list 🙂

YASSSS! Marchetta is just the queen basically. All of her books fall in my all time faves category! Jellicoe took me a little bit to get into I remember and then it was like WOAH this is brilliant and it quickly wrecked me.

I struggled with this list because a lot of my favourite authors have released something I didn’t love and now I am selective with what I pick up by them. Sarah J. Maas and J.K. Rowling are my big two really. I will always auto-add anything by them to my wishlist.

I had one author I so wanted to put on this list because I loved 3 of their books but then 1 was such a huge miss for me. I feel like I still trust them enough to read it but I’d be really checking reviews and stuff before purchasing now.

Your list is very diverse! I like how you now have 17 auto-buy authors. Seventeen. That’s a lot. And those choices give my ideas in what genres you like.

Yes, yes, yes and YES to neaI recently just read How to Love by Katie Cotugno and I can’t wait to read 99 days! Jandy Nelson, aah loved The Sky is Everywhere, I still have yet to read IGYTS! I still NEED to read Emery Lord, her books have been on my TBR for so LONG! Great list! ;D

Great picks!! I love Jandy Nelson!! 🙂 I still need to read The Sky is Everywhere. I fell in love with Noah and Jude in I’ll Give You The Sun. The connections that she made in that book were amazing. Loved it!

Great list!! I considered adding Rainbow Rowell, but I ran out of spots. I’m also currently working my way through Sarah Dessen’s books and have really enjoyed them. Sarah Maas is on my TBR list. I already have a copy of Throne of Glass and really need to start that series.

Very fitting that Susan and Sarah are next to each other! I don’t know if you did that intentionally or not! LOL! I loved Susan’s SS&D trilogy and can’t wait for Truthwitch! While I didn’t enjoy ToG as much as I had hope, I LOVED ACOTAR! Plus Sarah is one of the sweetest authors ever! Most authors I meet are so nice and everything, and Sarah fits that bill! LOL!

Oh I like this idea. I think I’ll ponder on this and post my own auto buy list blog post. I agree with a lot of your 2013 list. From the newer one it’s Rainbow Rowell for sure. I just found out about her last year, but I am obsessed. 😉 I loved The Sky is Everywhere, and even though I own I’ll give you the Sky I haven’t read it yet… :/ <— face for I should have read it.
I haven't heard of quite a few of these authors on your list… so I think I'll have to check them out.

I have Gayle Forman, Ruta Sepetys and Morgan Matson on my auto buy list too :p I loved Jandy Nelson’s I’ll Give You The Sun but wasn’t too fond of The Sky Is Everywhere so she’s still on the fence for my auto buy list.
