Catalog Creepin’ : Random House Summer 2011

Catalog Creepin’ is a new feature here at The Perpetual Page-Turner that was inspired by the “Books to Pine For” feature over at Kristi’s blog and really fueled by my obsession with scouring catalogs from my favorite publishers to see what upcoming books I should be adding to my already-ready-to-topple-over To Be Read list. Each Catalog Creepin’ post will spotlight a different catalog from my favorite publishers and their imprints. I won’t be covering all publishers — just my personal favorites whether they be the big honchos or smaller publishing houses. There is always the potential for a new publisher to be added when I discover new ones that I am enjoying.

Typically, I creep the catalogs when they first come out but I’m a little behind already this year because of my new job! 🙂

Seven Seasons in Siena: My Quixotic Quest for Acceptance Among Tuscany’s Proudest People by Robert Rodi — I love love love travelogues so this is a no-brainer. This, coupled with my love for Italy, makes this book very much on my radar.

The Glass Demon by Helen Grant – June 14th: I think this book is going to have major crossover appeal for YA and Adult fiction readers. It seems to have some sort of creepy fairytale thread running through it..with some murder and family drama. The young protagonist moves to Germany with her father as he is on some quest to find an important artifact..but somebody doesn’t want it to be found and is making it well known. It sounds like a perfect page-turner for the summer!

Vaclav and Lena by Haley Tanner – May 17: I have a feeling that I’m going to love this one. Sometimes I can just feel it…and this one has “favorite of 2011” potential. And the love story potential here…le sigh. I hope to be swept away. I also find myself being drawn to the immigrant story being told in this book as well.

Brights Passage by Josh Ritter – June 28th: Ok, here’s where I am completely superficial. I barely have an idea of what this book is about..BUT..Josh Ritter is one of my FAVORITE musical loves…SO..I’m going to buy his work of fiction and hope that it moves me as well as his music does. I’ve only seen rave reviews so far so I’ll be devouring this one when I get my hands on it!

Blood Magic by Tessa Gratton – April 26th: This is so intriguing to me. It’s a paranormal book but so unique and a step away from the usual paranormal creatures that have been popular. It focuses on “blood magic” which I’m dying to learn more about after reading the blurb for this debut. Not going to lie. I keep thinking about the cute little “blood” boy on Youtube as I keep typing this title and seeing the name of the book for some very odd reason.

Ingenue by Jillian Larkin – August 11th: All I have to say is that I really loved Vixen and have been DYING for this one to come out since the first book ended with such a bang!

Hooked by Catherine Greenman – August 9th 2011: The blurb in the catalog hooked me for sure. “A citified Juno for the John Green audience, with humor, intelligence, and depth.” UM YES TO THE PLEASEEE. I want! Also, I do want to read some more YA with a pregnant MC.

The Lucky Kind by Alyssa Sheinmel – May 10th: This one looks interesting and I’m a sucker for family drama in a novel because I just love exploring family dynamics. I also saw this described as YA literary fiction so I’m intrigued.

Siren’s Storm by Lisa Papademetriou: I’m really excited for this one! It looks like a perfect read for the summer. I’m fascinated with the mixture of mythology and contemporary here and the premise seems promising and maybe even a little creepy?

Texas Gothic by Rosemary Clement-Moore – July 12: Witches, ghosts and cowboys…can I get a big yeehaw to that? I’m a sucker for Southern Gothic type novels so I will definitely be picking this one up!
