I had been tossing this idea around for the past year or so (after having a conversation in my comments on a post where I had been mentioning my quote notebook and how I keep track of quotes from what I read) but I’m super lazy and slow to implement ideas sooooo…it’s only taken me that long to be like OKAY LET’S DO THIS.
I’ve mentioned it before but I have had a quote notebook since about 2008, before I started blogging, just to keep track of good quotes from books. Sometimes other quotes sneak in there that I like but mostly books. A bunch of people wanted to see it and it’s SUPER messy and just really for my viewing because I write sideways and everywhere and it’s a mess. But I thought it could be fun to do it this way to share the contents of my quote notebook!
So my goal with this? To share a quote from my quote notebook at random (aka whatever quote I’m FEELING for that day) and hopefully introduce you to some new books as I know sometimes I see a quote from a book and it makes me VERY interested in reading it or at least checking it out!
First up:
Golden by Jessi Kirby is one of my favorite contemporary YA books from one of my auto-buy authors. This quote become one of my unofficial mantras for life that I try to think about when I wake up and face a new day. This book was so inspiring in so many ways and featured a great character who always lived life by the rules and doesn’t really like to take chances or go outside of her comfort zone but through the course of the book is pushed to. It’s also got a GREAT mystery thread wherein Parker and her friends find something that could provide answers about two small town legends and golden couple from 10 years ago who died in a tragic accident but their bodies were never found. It’s seriously such a fantastic book and I have SO many quotes that I wrote down from this book in my quote notebook.

I LOVE THIS! I’ve always been meaning to keep track of quotes I love, but it’s a habit I have yet to pick up. I definitely need to start because quotes can really be inspiring, and can quickly remind you of a book you’ve loved. I haven’t read Golden, but I think I’ll have to look into it. The quote and your quick thoughts about the book, definitely makes me want to check it out. Thanks! 🙂

This is such a fun idea! I used to use my quote notebook a lot, but I got lazy over the past few years. Maybe because there’s quotes on Goodreads, and quotes on Epic Reads’ Youtube videos, so I feel like I can have beautiful quotes at my fingertips, whenever I need them. I think that part of it is also that I read so quickly, and rarely take the time to savour what I’m reading and write down quotes. I usually read it, think wow, that’s pretty, and then I’m off and reading. Bringing back my quote notebook would probably encourage me to slow down and enjoy each word, which wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing =P
Also, I love that your quote notebook is too messy to share — so is mine! I’ve got quotes written every which way, in all kinds of pen, and even some in crayon! I like that it’s eclectic =)

Oooh, I keep a quote notebook too – except it’s online, via Goodreads status updates. It’s nice to have my favorite quotes attached to each book I review – helps me to remember the most beautiful bits of what I’ve read! (I don’t really use their “Quotes” feature, because lots of passages I like aren’t necessarily ones that stuck out to other people.)

Oh, I love the idea of a quote notebook! Basically I save quotes I like on Goodreads, ha! But a quote notebook sounds a whole lot cuter!

This is a fabulous idea! I had a quote notebook too, but I lost it a few years ago when I moved overseas D: Anyway, Golden sounds intriguing! I love a good mystery and characters being challenged to go out of their comfort zone, so I may check this out. 😀

Yeeeees. I have a quote notebook too that I always forget about and then don’t write quotes down into and then I get sad and then remember it and go on a spree of recording quotes and then forget about it for a while again. 🙂 Great idea for a regular feature!

This is a great idea! I agree that a snippet or quote from a book helps with piquing interest, especially for books where the summary is really vague, which makes it hard to tell whether it’ll be something I’ll like. Can’t wait to see more of these posts!

This is such a neat feature! I have a notebook I keep with me when I read too, but I write down all sorts of things in it and not just quotes. This may sound weird, but I love writing down words I don’t know or ones that I’d never heard of. For future reference when I’m writing? I don’t even know, but I’ve always done it. Anyway! I absolutely ADORE the quote you chose, and it honestly makes me want to pick up Golden right now. I’m someone who finds it really hard to go outside of my comfort zone and try new things, but I so, so want to be that type of person. If not completely, at least a little bit! I did that for New York and BEA, and it was such an amazing experience. Definitely worth the fear and anxiety.
I love it when books inspire you to do better in/change your real life and ones go beyond the pages. 🙂
