I haven’t done a Wedding Wednesday post in a while because quite frankly wedding stuff stresses me out. I really haven’t been posting as much as usual because between MOVING (yes, we got the keys to our apartment!) & wedding planning & the craziness going on at work for me…I’m just so burnt out that I just don’t have it in me right now. BUT YOU GUYS….
TWO MONTHS UNTIL THE WEDDING (well, on 6/17 it will be exactly two months)
FREAKOUT. FREAKOUT. FREAKOUT.
Oh and I got a call that my WEDDING DRESS CAME IN! MY WEDDING DRESS?? Did you hear me? That dress that most little girls fantisize about their whole lives and make out of toilet paper or by layering on their mom’s dresses? Yes, it’s HERE. MY WEDDING DRESS is here.

Anyways, I just had to freak out for a moment. But the real thing that I need your help on is which song I’m walking down the aisle to. I have always known that the traditional “Here Comes The Bride” songs weren’t for me but I didn’t know if I wanted something with words to it. Also wasn’t sure if the church would be down with that. THEN I happened up on the Vitamin String Quartet..and YEAH..totally using their music for the music before the ceremony starts, the processionals & when I walk down the aisle.
I have it narrowed down to two songs and I’m SO torn. One is a song that most know and one is a song that probably nobody at my wedding will know but is one that I personally LOVE because I love this band.
SO…I need you to listen to them both (keep in mind it won’t be the WHOLE song playing…) so just listen for a minute or so!
First one, Wonderful Tonight (an Eric Clapton song) done by the Vitamin String Quartet. It’s such a sweet song & pretty awww worthy.
OR the Vitamin String Quartet’s version of Hoppipolla by Sigur Ros….whom I LOVE & ADORE. And this song is BEAUTIFUL to boot.
SO let me know what you think!! Now I have to tackle what the parents and the bridal party will be walking down to and our first dance song!

Great song choices — and I totally hear you on not wanting the traditional “Here Comes the Bride.” I agree that instrumental is best, and I think you should pick the song that means the most to you. It doesn’t really matter if anyone else there recognizes the song because, honestly, all eyes are going to be on YOU coming down the aisle, looking radiant and gorgeous and glowing. So pick a song that’s going to warm your heart and make you walk that little bit taller, since it’s your moment to shine. That’s my two cents =)

Oh, gosh. I love both of these. But my heart has a soft spot for Sigur Ros and it just feels more wedding-y to me. It’s just so beautiful.
And now I’m just going to listen to it for a while and dance around my room with moony eyes for a while.

I have to vote for Hoppipolla. That is one of my favorite songs and is so beautiful and romantic. I would feel like I was in a fairy tale walking down the aisle to this song. I’m excited for you! And I’ve mentioned this before but you are getting married on my anniversary, which just makes me really happy. 🙂

I may be slightly biased, because “Wonderful Tonight” was my senior prom song, and I went to prom with a total d-bag.

I think both songs are fantastic. I say go with the song that is most personal for you and your fiance. When I got married, I walked down the aisle to Ben Folds’ “The Luckiest.” I love the lyrics to that song and it meant a lot to me and my now husband. It was the perfect song for us and I’m sure you’ll pick the perfect song for you.

I don’t just like Hoppipolla by Sigur Ros BETTER, I love it. And I can actually picture you making a your big entrance to that. Plus, the fact that you love this song is REALLY apparent. Go for it, and eff all the naysayers.

Oooh, it’s a tough choice. I’m leaning toward the first one. I’ve actually been listening to a ton of songs this week trying to choose my processional song. And my wedding’s not for another 6 months!

So, I don’t know if this will help at all, but my sister used Vitamin String Quartet and a few other lesser known bands/songs…as well as some very popular songs like the Star Wars theme song. She then made mixed CDs of all the songs used for when she walked in/they walked out of the church and when people were waiting. That way people could listen and put names to each song. It’s a lot of work, but it’s another option that will let you pick the song you love the most and get more people familiar with it.

Oh my gosh! I love Hoppípolla, but I had never heard this version before. It is absolutely lovely.
The other one is beautiful, too, although I’m not as familiar with the song. It would be a great wedding song.
I would give a slight edge to Hoppípolla, but that’s probably because I’m already so attached to it. So, I’m basically no help at all. Sorry! But honestly, whichever you choose will be wonderful.

I like Wonderful Tonight – it just feels more wedding-ish and romantic to me. If after all of our lovely votes you’re still unsure, you should put on that pretty wedding dress in your room and play both songs and do a “pretend” walk down the aisle and see which one you think fits best 🙂

I think they’re both beautiful and you should choose whichever feels right. But since you asked, I’d choose Hoppipolla. I would rather go with something people don’t recognize because it should be all about you. And I felt like it was more of a stroll down the aisle, build-up to a wedding kind of tune. Hoppipolla. It’s more significant to you, and there is absolutely NO RULE that says you need to play music during your ceremony that will be familiar to your guests. Plus, for the rest of your life, you’ll be able to associate a song you love with the most special day of your life – and it will be one that not a lot of people will have used for the exact same purpose.
Also, Wonderful Tonight was my sr. prom song, so I know a LOT of people who used it in their weddings, especially people that married their high school sweethearts 🙂

My advice? Just make sure it is long enough! We had a 6.5 minute song and I was like “plenty of time” and it was, but just barely. I heard the song ending as I reached the front and was like “get up on that platform NOW”. Especially if you have a large wedding party, make sure the song is long or get someone to prepare a looped version for you. (I like Hoppipolla, but would definitely find a way to extend it – I could try to help you with that if you want) (YAY! you’re getting married! for real!)

I walked down to “Air on G” because I wanted something non-“Here Comes the Bride” but still classic.
My bridesmaids walked down to “Canon in D” because it’s my sister’s favorite (one of my bridesmaids).

Pick the song YOU want. It doesn’t matter if no one else knows it. If it is meaningful to you, then choose it.
We got married the day after Christmas, so I walked down the aisle to Matt’s favorite carol. It made him cry, so it was definitely worth it, even though it was an “out-there” choice. 🙂

I actually like the Sigur Ros song. I hadn’t heard it before today, but it sounds incredibly romantic and I could completely picture someone walking down the aisle to it!

I’m going with Beautiful Tonight – for me, it’s more full-bodied and I think it would be easier to walk to as well. The other one is absolutely beautiful though so it should feature somewhere in the day!

I loved wonderful tonight!!! That will be so beautiful, and I love the thought of your guests recognizing the song…can’t you see their faces when they’re like, that is sooooo cool that she’s walking down the aisle to a string version of that?! I wanted to walk down the aisle to maybe I’m amazed, Courtney cox did that when she got married and I always thought it would be beautiful. But, I chickened out because it would be too untraditional for me…so I made it our introduction song at the reception. It was petty then too! Good luck and best wishes!

I completely agree with the first comment. It’s really all about you in that moment, so choose whatever you want. I never wanted the traditional “Here Comes the Bride,” either. Barf. I walked down the aisle to the piano music played during all the Mer/Der moments from Grey’s Anatomy. I doubt many people recognized it, and my husband had to find someone to write the music for us, but it was perfect in that it was exactly what I wanted. It all goes by so fast, be sure to do what you really want.

Ah!! I love you for loving Vitamin String Quartet. Seriously. It’s probably my most played background music on Spotify. I freaking love Sigur Ros more than anyone should (especially this song), but I’m actually going to say I think the Clapton is more situation appropriate here. Part of me just thinks Hippipolla has too epic of a buildup (and yes, I realize a wedding is something EPIC), but maybe a cut from the middle? Let us know which one you pick! Really shocked to say Clapton over Sigur Ros, but there it is.

Thank you so much for posting this. I have been beating myself up all week and you just made me feel so much better. I just moved about a month and a half ago into a house that requires a LOT of work. We took off the awful wallpaper and there were holes in the wall that someone had just papered over. In EVERY room in the house. I haven’t worked on any house projects in like 3 weeks. I’m trying to get my own blog up and running and it’s probably been a month and a half since I touched it. My to-do list is 8 miles long. I just went to pick up my wedding dress this week. My wedding is in three months. I’m frustrated with all of it and I feel guilty for not enjoying the process. On the wedding blogs that I follow I haven’t ever seen anyone post about wedding planning burnout. Everyone just says how magical and fun and exciting it all is but I can’t help but wish I was just married already so that I can stop stressing about it and get to the good part! So, please excuse the rant. Congratulations and best of luck with all of your wedding planning!! And thank you again for making me feel more normal for being stressed out with wedding stuff. 🙂

Vitamin String Quartet! They are one of my favorite Pandora finds this year. Hoppipolla is my favorite. Love the first song, but the second one is such an unexpected and beautiful song.

I say it depends on what you pick for the bridesmaids song. You want something that’ll flow well into this one.
Since it’s only a part of a song playing, I’d say the first, that way even though you’re only playing a clip, everyone will feel like they’ve heard the entire song, since they know it.
But if Hoppipolla is that special to you, then go for it!

I feel like I actually might have commented on this particular post, but it got lost or something. ANYWAY. I definitely agree with most people’s sentiments to go with Hoppipolla, if only because it’s so beautiful and it’s so unique.
