Hey. Hi. Hello! Nothing big going on around here..just the fact that in a week from today I am marrying the person who is truly my best friend but also the one that makes my heart pitter patter. He’s my Darcy, my Peeta (or Gale depending on who you ask!), my fairy tale ending and happily ever after. The time has flown by and I am so insanely excited/completely overwhelmed. I feel like it was just yesterday when I announced it to you all on here that we were getting married!!
And after the wedding we will be heading off to Mexico for our honeymoon for a week. Aside from enjoying his company, I fully plan to read and relax on the beach or in these freaking amazing HAMMOCKS above this lazy river. I’m taking one or two physical books that I own but I have a gift card that I plan on using to get some books for my Nook…so I NEED some recommendations! I don’t know what sorts of books would be good honeymoon reading (any of them would do probably lol) BUT I know you will steer me in the right direction, friends, since you know my tastes so well.
I’ll be posting my honeymoon book packing list next week after I make the decision with your help!!

My recommendation: The Princess Bride. It’s my all time favorite. Plus, you know, it’s about a princess, and a bride, so it’s totally relevant!

I recently read The Mango Orchard by Robin Bayley – it’s nonfiction but reads like a novel, with amazing characters and a great setting. Which happens to be Mexico, which is why I mention it 🙂

Congrats!! It does only seem like yesterday that you got engaged. As for recommendations, I Now Pronounce You Someone Else by Erin McCahn. It has some sad parts…but it’s a sweet and realistic romance! Plus, it’s witty and fun. I loved it so much.

Hmmm, I read the entire first Hunger Games book on my honeymoon a few years back, but guessing by your Gale/Peeta reference, you’ve probably already read that one … Have you tried I Capture the Castle? I love that one.

I took Carlos Ruiz Zafon’s Shadow of the Wind on my honeymoon last year, and read the entire thing on the beach. It seemed like an odd choice at first, since it’s all dark, WWII Barcelona, but the story is so captivating that it was kind of nice to read something that wasn’t all light, beachy fluff, like I usually choose. Although I also packed some of the light fluff (i.e. Sarah Dessen). Hope that your day is all you hoped it would be … and more, and that you two enjoy a lifetime of happiness together!!

Oh Jamie, I’m so happy for you! I’m going to suggest an adult book, namely GARDEN SPELLS by Sarah Addison Allen. It has lots of delicious descriptions of food, magical realism elements, and a bit of romance. I hope you like it if you decide to try it out!

What an exciting time! I hope you enjoy every minute of it! My main advice re: book selections is to get books that you are convinced will be fantastic (to avoid the meh book moments). I read a book on my honeymoon that I had heard fabulous things about but had neglected to read because it wasn’t YA and it was like 1000 pages long. It was SO GOOD (and totally unromantic by the way) and it just added a nice touch to my already wonderful trip. So that’s my advice, pick out some titles that you’ve always known were the perfect books for you and yet haven’t gotten around to actually reading. Happy Wedding-ing and Honeymoon-ing!

It’s almost here! I know you have to be excited! Make sure that you do spend a lot of time on your honeymoon just relaxing, because after next week you really will need some R&R time!
As far as suggestions go, I picked up A History of Love by Nicole Krauss on my honeymoon last year when I ran out of Harry Potter books lol, and I really liked it! It’s literary but not too heavy!

First off, CONGRATULATIONS JAMIE! I remember my pre-wedding excitement and the best advice I can offer is to savour it. Seriously. It’s all over so fast! Secondly, I am a new reader of your amazeballs blog and have found myself devouring all of your previous posts. I love your sense of humour and passion for books. It’s truly inspiring.
Okay, well with regards to honeymoon books, I’d recommend something lighter. I mean, c’mon, it’s your HONEYMOON afterall. I enjoyed “Hope in a Jar” by Beth Harbison and Mindy Kaling’s debut book “Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?”

I read a fair amount on my honeymoon. So did my hubby. We did a lot of fun stuff, but it was also a vacation, so we sat poolside a lot and read. He read his usually fantasy novel fair. I took along some chick lit (Sophie Kinsella) and some paranormal romance, I think it was MaryJanice Davidson, but the Sookie Stackhouse books would be fun too.

I read a good mix of books on my honeymoon… one being One Day (which I think you couldn’t finish, right). I don’t remember anything too stand out. BUT on our last trip I read Unbreak My Heart, Second Chance Summer, and From What I Remember and those were excellent for a sunny trip! 🙂 I would give those a whirl.
Oh, P.S. I would pack before your wedding if you have time. That’s a big piece of advice from me because I was the ultimate psycho the day before our trip and stayed up until 3am packing and repacking and then getting in a 2 hour cat nap before we had to go to the airport. 🙂

If I’m not too late… Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchette was AMAZING. It has everything – epic adventure, amazing world-building, fantastic characters and of course, a wonderful love story. Just be sure to bring the second book in the series, Froi of the Exiles, because, I promise, once you read the first book you will need to read the next (although the third book is not out until 2013).
