This week’s topic: Top Ten Books I Wish Had A Sequel
So I don’t wish these had a sequel because they were incomplete, except maybe ONE of my picks, but rather because I just want MORE of the story and the characters or the world.
Not A Drop To Drink by Mindy McGinnis: I literally just finished this and the ending satisfied me but I’d love to go back into this world again so much! My review should be up either this week or next so be on the look out!
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell: The story was a complete story but I could totally follow Cather through more of her college experience — see how she continues to grow, the romance, how she and her twin continue to find themselves, how her writing progresses, etc.
The Lost Girl by Sangu Mandanna: I said this in my review but I TOTALLY want a sequel. I was satisfied with the ending but…you’ll have to read to find out why I say I’d love a sequel! There’s a lot of things that could totally be explored still!
Five Summers by Una LaMarche: I liked this one alright, didn’t love, but I’d totally be down for a companion novel of sorts after whether it be the next summer and we see how the year went for them and how they are continuing to maintain their friendship OR it could be another camp reunion 5 years later as they are just out of college. I just really love the whole friendship thing ( a la Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) and the summer camp setting — remember I begged for it?? Not going to lie I would have totally dug this as a series from first year in camp until this one ends. lol I JUST WANT CAMP, OK?!
The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau Banks by E. Lockhart: I want more Frankie hangout time! I would have loved to see all the shenanigans she got in at boarding school through the years and also how she really grows in the base of feminist ideals she had.
The Statistical Probability of Love At First by Jennifer E. Smith: So we got to see the very spark of Hadley and Oliver and I’d LOOOVE to catch up with them later on!
Every Day by David Levithan: I would totally be down for a sequel to this just because I loved seeing all the lives A got to lead that were all so, so different and how he experienced being these people. I also would love to learn a little more how all of it worked!
Take A Bow by Elizabeth Eulberg: This was a fun one, especially if you love the talented YA kind of thing, and I would love to follow these guys through their performing arts school/careers.
Boundless by Cynthia Hand: I don’t want to say anything but there are some THINGS I would like to know…how a certain person is doing after that ending. But really I’d just LOVE to catch up with this gang and get caught back up in the world. One of my fave series! If you haven’t given this series a chance, check out my review of Unearthly!
Requiem by Lauren Oliver: SIGH. The ending was just not satisfying to me despite the fact the last paragraph was one of my most favorite last lines ever. I don’t need my stories tied up in neat little bows or totally happy endings but I just loved this series so much and the ending was so underwhelming to me. Basically I just want Lauren to be like JUST KIDDING…THAT WASN’T THE END. THERE’S MOOOOORE. I mean, the more I’ve had time to sit on it I’ve become a little more okay with the ending but it left a bad taste in my mouth for months. I just keep playing out the story in my head from time to time.
So tell me…what books would YOU love to see a sequel to, not because they are INCOMPLETE/UNSATISFYING endings, but because you just want MORE? Are there any books that had an unsatisfying ending that you want a sequel to? Agree/disagree with any of my picks/reasoning for wanting a sequel?

TOTALLY agree on Fangirl and The Lost Girl. I’d also probably change Statistical Probability to ALL OF JENNIFER’S YA EVER. Because This is What Happy Looks Like? I totally need more of that ish too.

Yep. The very end of Requiem was underwhelming for me too… maybe even a novella would suffice enough for me to be happy with Lena’s ending. And I really liked Julian… so. Hah!

While I simply couldn’t think of enough novels to complete this week’s topic, I just want to echo your choice of Sangu Mandanna’s The Lost Girl. It was the first novel that came to mind when I saw this week’s topic. While, like you, I was entirely satisfied with the ending we were given, it was one of the most unique stories I read last year and there was so much potential for other novels set in the same universe! It’s woefully under-rated and I would absolutely love to see another novel in that series simply because of how much I enjoyed The Lost Girl!

I just finally finished Boundless a couple weeks ago and I totally agree- how is this person doing? Is this person happy. Although I was totally satisfied with the ending ;). I loved Fangirl and could have read about those characters for ages. Cather was sweet and I to would like to see how she grows and matures.

Soooo Oliver has a special place in my heart because I’m pretty sure we had a solid bonding moment to our friendship over that. Yes, I know that is corny particularly because well we aren’t THAT close. But yes, it will always have a special place in my heart cause of that. Sorry?

I haven’t read Fangirl yet but I loved Eleanor & Park. That one had a perfect ending though. I wouldn’t mind another book about Frankie. That was a great novel and one I should reread.

I am liking standalone novels more now, but some of these would be great with a sequel.
Yes, yes, yes, to Fangirl! I read that book a few weeks ago and it is still sticking with me. I would love to know more about her life.
I would love to see more of A’s journey too.
I am also a huge Elizabeth Eulberg fan and Take A Bow was so wonderful. A sequel would not be a bad thing

I desperately need more after Requiem as well! There was so much potential there for at least another book to wrap the story up.
I wanted more Rainbow Rowell too, but Eleanor & Park. Need to read Fangirl, not long to wait! 🙂

I agree with you 100% about the ending of Requiem. There definitely needs to be more to that story.

Totally agree with Requiem. I believe I may have said “WHAT?!? That’s IT?!?” after turning the last page and flipped back to make sure I wasn’t missing something. Sigh. So disappointing.

Yes to Boundless and Requiem! I haven’t read Boundless yet but I already know I would want a sequel because I love the first two books. And with Requiem, I feel like that one is a given considering the open ending.

Yes, yes, YES! Requiem. I’ve come to terms with it more over the past few months, but I still wanted a little bit more. I could even go for one of the novellas she puts out, in some other characters POV down the road. Maybe Gracie? Was that her name? Just anything that gives me more closure!

I’d so totally be down for a sequel for Everyday, just because I loved A as a character and would love to see if he keeps tabs on the girl he loves and just catch up with him living other people’s lives. Another book in the Unearthly series after Boundless would be TOTALLY FINE WITH ME CYNTHIA HAND! I loved the book but I felt like I just needed closure from one particular person *cough* to truly move on from this series, I just have to know what there up too! And lastly, Requiem… I think you said it all!

I absolutely agree with Boundless, and if we’re talking series enders, Harry Potter. There was a lot of story in those 7 books, but I want more, more, MORE! Honestly, I don’t think JKR could ever write enough in that world to satisfy me! I didn’t do this week’s TTT because the only other book I can think of is Parallel. I loved that book so much, but I definitely could have gone for more.

Interesting list! I haven’t read any of these, and many I hadn’t heard of before. Most of my picks were older; it seems these days I’m reading more series, so they either have sequels, are sequels, or will have sequels someday.

I totally forgot about Every Day by David Levithan! Dang, I should have put that on my list! It was such a good book! I totally agree about Requiem. The ending was just so… yeah. You know what I mean. I want to know what happened to the characters. I think she left it just a bit too open.

I just start crying whenever I think of the end of Boundless, I’ve seriously had to push that book out of my mind…ahem. Anyway, I’m pretty sure that I read on Sangu Mandanna’s website that she’s outlined 2 more books in the series. But it doesn’t look like they’re going to be written :(. Many of these I still need to read!

I haven’t finished NOT A DROP TO DRINK yet, so I’m interested to see how it ends now! And I only put standalones on my list, but if I would’ve put series on it REQUIEM so would have made the list–that ending gave me no closure! By the way, I love how you set your posts up every week!

I considered adding The Lost Girl to my list as well. It definitely ended ambiguously enough that I could see a sequel being written. I actually haven’t read any of the other books on your list – I’ve started the Unearthly and Delirium series and feel like I should eventually finish them so I can see how they end (and whether I’m satisfied with them).

Fangirl. I was on the fence, but I think a companion about Wren could be amazing, especially if we got to see Cath and her boy being adorable a lot. Sighhhhh.
Totally agree with everyone who suggested The Statistical Probability. I would love to see the aftermath of the instalove. Did it work? Did they learn anything? etc.
Bahaha, Requiem has been on so many lists. I wonder if Lauren Oliver knows that, and I wonder if she cares.

Yes yes YES to Statistical Probability, Take a Bow, and Boundless. SPoLaFS is purely selfish, but Elizabeth Eulberg has said she may one day go back and write another book with the Take a Bow crew. Boundless didn’t feel totally settled to me, like it was rushed. I think if Cynthia had done four books instead of three, I would feel better with it.
